Color correcting software!

I shot my film with SI-2K camera and I edited it final cut pro, do you know any good software that I can Color correct my raw footages with it?

COLOR, a separate application from FCP, but part of the Final Cut Studio 2 suite.
COLORISTA by Red Giant Software...a plugin for FCP that is better than the 3-way that is built into FCP.

    Yes, but I would only trust it if you are going to be making DVDs, and ONLY if you properly set it up. I would not rely on it for broadcast color correction. The reason broadcast monitors exist is to have a standard...HDTVs don't have a standard. Go to best buy and look at all of them....none of them match. BUT, as a nice simple solution for DVD, I'd use it.
    But the only way you are going to get a signal to it is with the Matrox MXO. It will do component to the monitor, or you can get a DVI to HDMI adapter...if you do that the MXO software will allow you to set the monitor up to color bars. That option is only available from of the DVI out of the box.
    Will the color acuracy will be similar to that of a NTSC color correction monitor?
    No...it would be similar to color correcting NTSC on your home television...because that it what it is.
    will my TV do a decent job for NTSC?
    I doubt it. Taking an SD image and blowing it up huge on this HD TV...scaled up. I wouldn't think so. I wouldn't use it for SD color correction.
    I am not sure I have this HDMI cable to be use in my macbook pro does it comes with it?
    You have a DVI port on your MacBook Pro. And they make DVI to HDMI cable adapters I'm sure.

  • Secondary color correction not working in Premiere CC

    Greetings,
    I'm unable to build secondary color correction masks in Three Way Color Corrector, RGB Curves etc in the current version of Premiere CC.
    In any of these plugins, when I check "show mask" I get the usual white slate filling the frame. But when I use the color picker to make a selection the whole frame stays white. It appears that I'm making selections but it's not building the mask for some reason. When making an extreme color change I can see that the mask is not building as it affects the whole frame.
    This started after upgrading to CC. I've recently updated to the most up to date version (yesterday) and am still having the same problem.

    *note-my Colleague is not having this problem, he's working on the same OS and same CC build but he has an Imac. So I'm guessing this problem is unique to my hardware config.

    I have the same Problem new MAC OS Premier Pro CC or Premier Pro CS6 both have an issue with the Title Tool. If you open the title tool and try to make color changes or change size of the font it sticks at the default color and default font. SOmetimes the title tool will work and then when I exit it's back to the default first type location, default font and default color. Sometimes it will not even let me exit the Title Tool.
    Please help I have Projects I'm working on Deadlines and I pay a monthly Fee for Software that works and it's not working.

    Hello guys,
    I am a newbie to Color and Color Correction. I have a dual monitor setup with my Mac Pro.
    I have two 24 inches of DELL 2408WFP & DELL 2407WFP. These monitors have different color, and I think it is just stupid how Dell manufactures them.
    Anyways, From what I have learned, I know I am not suppose to do perform color correction for videos on any regular LCD monitors. Can you experts suggest me good color correction monitor? Not too expensive. I am not doing any major flim/music video or anything such. This is just a hobby of mine, and I'd like to learn new things as time goes on. Most of my videos are travel videos & I try to make a cinematography out of it. I also shoot landscapes.

    I think there is a lot of snobery on this forum regarding hardware requirements. If you are not entertaining clients who have just come from a Da Vinci suite, then you CAN live with out a Broadcast monitor that meets EBU specs. The important thing is to use a video monitor and not a computer monitor. You will need a decklink like card to get the video into composite or component format, that later will give a cleaner image but most television is viewed in composite any way. Colorgrading is a matter of comparing the before and after image and comparing the graded shot with the pictures around it. The scopes will keep you informed of the limits and will help you interprit the monitor. Rember if the shot looks better after grading on a cheaper monitor then it will look better on a Grade A monitor with SDI inputs. Don't let the "big" boys put you off, and use the software that you own to inprove your video and your skill-set.

  • Color correction, color profile, colorsync, wide gamut,

    There hasn't been any reply to the threads about color inconsistency in OS X, so I'm starting another one.
    I'm using a wide-gamut monitor attached to a Mac with built-in display. When Preview displays an image, it applies some color correction to it. This leads to unnecessary color warping.
    If the image is solid red, #FF0000, it displays it as orange, #FF2500. If I copy and paste the image, it further warps the color to brownish-orange, #DF4616 or the like.
    For example, this image, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/Solid_red.png , shows up fine in Firefox, but when it's color "corrected" thorough Preview or other OS X applications, it becomes something like http://i.imgur.com/gDiTE.png
    Please, before commenting about color calibration, note that *this is not a monitor calibration issue*. My monitors are calibrated well, and no recalibration can fix this.
    This is an OS X color correction issue. OS X applies and re-applies color correction schemes, resulting in warped colors on anything but sRGB monitors. This corrupts image colors whenever they are handled.
    Someone, please address this long-standing issue.

    These forums are the wrong place for getting Apple's attention to your issue. If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Black Magic Flat - Color Correction for FCP7

    Does anyone have any recommendations of FREE color correct plug-ins for Final Cut 7 to apply to footage shot specifically on the Black Magic Cinema Camera. We shot it RAW in ProRes and my editor is cutting on the FCP7.
    I just want an easy fix before sending a rough cut to the client.
    We will later hand off the locked picture to a colorist for a proper color grading.
    (I use FCPX myself, and have a free plugin for BMCC Flat on that system. Just not sure if something similar & generous exist for FCP7 users)

    Probably the closest you'll come is the free DaVinci Resolve software Black Magic is offering, but that's not a simplistic solution. I understand that Resolve 9 has some support for RAW conversion that may work for your purposes.

  • Color correction in IM6 or plugin advice?

    Hello All,
    I have several hours of video from 8mm films that I have filmed with my DV camcorder. The quality is pretty good, but I would like to run it through some kind of color correction or optimization.
    1. Has anyone done this in IM6? Is it possible?
    2. Has anyone used any plugins for this sort of thing?
    3. Does anyone know of any third-party software I could run my video through and then save as .mov for import into IM6?

    iMovie has hue and white balance adjustment although they are a bit tedious to work with. Even with plug-in from GeeThree it will take a while and I am not sure if they work with V6 yet. Slick 3 has the color correction you are looking for
    But if you have a lot of footage and want to do a good job there is little better than the 3-Way color in Final Cut other than having someone with PRO equipment do the conversion and correct the colors on the transfer.

  • Color Correction Auto Levels results uneven

    My Color Correction Auto Levels results are uneven. I applied them to a short clip to Test, and they look fine when they apply...but every now and then there is a flicker for a few frames/seconds and it reverts to original colors. I have a 6month old computer 64bit, 12gigs ram....and it is only a 5 minute clip.
    Any suggestions??

    did somemore testing and i think you will be correct.
    Why is this?...is it because Auto is "too broad a brush" or my computer doesn't have enough power (12 gigs ram??)
    or is it a software weakness.  is this usually the same for other, similar, effects??

  • Color Correcting Help!

    I shot a bunch of timelapse clips (12 and 15fps) with two GoPro3's and transcoded them in the GoPro software, Cineform Studio, because PP5.5 apparently does not natively handle MP4's.  I made them universally 1080 and 29.97fps AVI's for import into Premiere 5.5 (on my mac). 
    While doing so, I also did minor color corrections.  However, as I start to lay them side by side in Premiere I see that I did a poor job and that they look very different.
    As a result, I have two problems:
    1) I have no idea how to use Premiere's color many correcting tools.
    2) Assuming I can figure a tool out, if I must correct each clip in the sequence individually, then there is no reason why I will not again make them all look different from each other.
    Is there a way to make all the clips conform to a target value, with each changing the appropriate amount from it's own, current values to match it?  For example, can I take one clip, adjust it's values (basically just white balance, brightness and contrast), and ask the rest to match it regardless of how close or far they currently are from it?  I hope I've asked this question correctly.

    The Three Way Color Corrector is probably the
    most intuitive CC effect for a beginner in a hurry.

  • Unable to Export Color Corrected Video's to Original format for AVCHD (GH2) and ProRES Codecs.

    I imported a 176 MBPS AVCHD clip from my GH2 into Lightroom 4, then i added color presets to the video and color corrected the video, however during export when i select the video format as original the color correction does not apply to the video, only the original video is saved, But when i select H.264 or DPX the video is saved with the effects applied. I also tried using a AVCHD clip converted to Apple ProRES but when i export the video the effects are not applied to the saved video. Also the option i get for saving H.264 files is only 22 MBPS.

    Original, whether for photos or video, means "unedited".  Bear in mind that this isn't intended for high-end video editing - just simple edits for digitial photographers.  It won't replace your video editing software anytime soon, if ever.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 then After Effects CS3 for Color Correction?

    Hello All,
    I'm at a bit of a loss here, it seems like it's a no brainer to be able to do this. I'm trying to edit my film in Premiere and then use After Effects to do color correction using Color Finesse 2. But there doesn't seem to be ANY way to keep a project so you can continue to edit in premiere while you also keep all your color correction??
    You can do color correction in AE and export a premiere project but premiere won't recognize the Color Finesse Filter so you lose all you color correction!
    Or I can edit the whole project in premiere and open it in after effects to do color correction, but then if there is a single edit change that needs to be done in premiere again i've once again lost my Color Correction to bring it back.
    Is this really the case that I can't use these expensive packages together this way? It seems like there has to be a solution! If Adobe just made it so Premiere kept the "links" to your filters in the project, instead of killing an unrecognizable one. Then when you opened it back in after effects after your edit your Color Correction would still be there.
    Any one have any advice?

    Aanarav, Your idea to just get Color Finesse for premiere I suppose I could do. It's $545 which isn't exactly pocket change, but it would probably be worth it, if there is another way other than breaking the bank book for software I already own i'd like to try to get away with it.

    Dynamic link is unfortunately a feature only of the production studio package which is like $1100 upgrade from what I have...so that's kinda out of the question for me.

    Great idea here. I really thought it might work since premiere seems to use what are called after effects plugin files too. But after copying and pasting for a while it doesn't look like it actually sees it as a plugin anywhere I paste it. :( If anyone knows of a way to get that to work I would be seriously grateful!
    I guess it sounds like the only way out is to spend cash, sigh such is so often the case is seems.

  • Premiere pro cc having trouble with color corrected clips

    I've been working on a project for a few days and today when I opened premiere pro it gave me a warning about what software it had been running with and how it was no longer available. I'm sorry I've already forgotten the name of the software, but I know I didn't remove anything from my laptop. When I began watching the playback I noticed that color corrected clips were very jumpy and didn't play smoothly, but the ones that had not been color corrected were fine.  There were also two lines at the top of my timeline, a red one over all the jumpy clips and a yellow one over the clips that played through completely. This is my first time using premiere pro so I'm not sure what it means or how I could fix it.  It may be worth noting that my laptop isn't bad but I don't think it's necessarily the best for editing.  Is it possible that memory space or hardware within the laptop are the issue? Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

    The solution to this problem is simple.  Download and install the latest Adobe PPro CS3 3.2.0 patch.  50 Mb download, 20 second install time.  Everything works great now!

  • 5930K vs 5960X for AVCHD editing and color correction?

    Hi guys, getting ready to have a new custom system built (probably iBuyPower, not sure yet). I would love your input on choosing the ideal processor. I have read benchmarks and forums on both the Intel 5960X and the 5930K. Most benchmarks are only concerned about encoding times, not the actual editing and color correction processes. I realize that encoding (exporting) would be generally faster on the 8-core 5960 compared to the 6-core 5930. HOWEVER, all my source material is AVCHD and for that, higher clock speed does make a big difference during the actual editing. So let's forget about encoding/exporting right now and ONLY think about the actual editing. Let's also assume I will not overclock, or if I do then never more than 20%.* I 'm not a gamer and this workstation is ONLY for editing. I use Premiere Pro CC 2014.x and always keep it up to the latest version.
    Since the 5960X is only clocked at 3.0 Hz. I'm concerned that editing and color correcting AVCHDs will be not as smooth as one would expect from a $1000 chip. The editing process is quite complex, with multiple video layers (all AVCHD, either 60p or 60i), picture-in-picture, color correction (mostly GPU-accelerated ones such as the Three Way CC and RGB Curves), and so on. It's not simple cuts and a few transitions. In fact, the work required on those AVCHD files is very much beyond what AVCHD is meant for but it is what it is.
    So, considering all that, would you STILL fork out the extra cash to get the 5960X versus the 5930K, and if so, why?

    PS: I would like to emphasize again that the actual process of editing and color correcting AVCHD files is what matters most to me here rather than getting the absolute fastest encoding times.
    * I realize that both chips are unlocked and made for overclocking. I've overclocked for years but frankly, I was never that comfortable with it, lots of crashes and instability - and that was at low overlock levels of around 20% or less. I do not want manage overclocking or thermal management or worry about frying the chips. If at all possible I would like to run the chips at stock, or as close to stock as possible. However I'm also open to suggestions about that.

    Actually the 5960X will clock the turbo speed for all cores if you set it that way which is one of the things we do with our systems. All Intel chips that are not locked can clock to their turbo rating for all cores if set that way. Even without setting all cores to the peak turbo ratio they will turbo to a clock speed higher than base when all cores are active. It's just not the peak turbo ratio. That has to be manually set. Turbo occurs anytime the system load reaches beyond a low level regardless of what your doing. The system boards and bios effect that. You can also disable a setting in the bios and the system will always stay at it's peak clock ratio. The 5960X clocked at 3.9 will easily outperform the 5930K with all codecs due to the cores and cache.
    We can configure the systems with any hardware available in the market. However we cant include all those items on the website right now without making it far harder for people to configure systems. The hardware options we list are there because they are tested to work with the video and audio hardware/software and the reliability. We also support the systems as a solution for the life of the system. We have price the systems for that support which is part of the price difference. The options you are looking at wont have near the same support or expertise with the hardware and software together hence why your asking the questions here.

  • FCP export to Vegas for color correction

    I work in FCP, I don't have the best eye for color, so I'm having a friend do the color correction with a PC, using Magic Bullet and some other software. Rather than exporting the entire film, or entire scenes, which he'd have to go back and cut into individual shots in order to edit them all individually with their own color treatment, he has me exporting every shot from the film and exporting them to his harddrive or DVDs for him to work on. I've been doing it a scene at a time. It's incredibly tedious, very easy to screw up (if a shot goes a few frames long and under another shot, for example, it's out of sync, and if I forget a shot, mislabel a shot, get out of order when labeling them, etc, it's out of sync, etc), and I'm sure, at some point, I'm going to screw it up and it's going to be very annoying. Is there any more practical way to do this so that he has the markers, the shots are cut already, etc, but he doesn't have to reconstruct it from a thousand shots I've exported one at a time? I don't want to make him go back and make all the cuts himself, either, though that actually seems slightly easier to me.

    "I don't have the best eye for color" means I'm color blind. I don't appreciate the "learn the 3 way" comments. You can learn to drive a manual all you want, but if something in your brain tells you train tracks are highways, you're bound to run into trouble. And a train.
    The other editor lives an hour away, and he hates working on a Mac. He came here once and tried to edit using my system, but he couldn't get the hang of it. Add to that he came an hour each way to do that, and I had to pay for his gas, that made it very expensive, timely venture. It also means he'd have to have, say, at least 4 hours set aside each time he wanted to edit, to travel here and make it worth his time to do so. At home, he can do it anytime.

But now that I graduated, I bought myself a t3i and the adobe creative cloud. My question is, should I color correct in Premiere Pro or another suitable program (the only one I sort of know is Davinci Resolve lite)? Sure, I know it can be done in Premiere Pro, but I was wondering if there is a better alternative that I should focus my learning in for color correction. Thanks in advance!
