Color Correction - batch apply AUTO CONTRAST to many clips in timeline

Hi, I am loking for a way to _apply the Auto Contrast to many clips at once_. I have lots of CC to do and few time, and I find that using the auto contrast (in this case) would be a nice start, but I do not know how to do it to may clips in one step.
Is this possible?
Thanks, cheers
Steph.

It sounds like the OP is attempting to have FCP auto-analyze each clip that has this filter applied. While FCP doesn't do that, there is a faster way of accessing the filter settings without having to double click each clip. This requires the use of Auto-selects and Open sync.
Assuming the clips in question are located on track V1:
- Option click the auto select button on V1. (This is the grey button to the right of the padlock). By option-clicking, you're automatically deselecting the other video tracks.
- From either the Canvas or the Viewer, click the Playhead sync drop menu (located at the top center), and select Open. This opens the playhead sync between the timeline and the viewer.
- In the Viewer, click the Filters tab.
Now, whenever you move your playhead through your timeline, the viewer will display the filter properties for the clip on V1 that is under the playhead.

  • Color correction batch process

I have a set of about 2400 images taken by a Nikon D700 from a stationary position of a stationary subject over the course of a few days with different lighting and color conditions.  I need all of the images to match so that I can load them into a program to create a 3-D model of the object (essentially by stacking the images).  So far all attempts to adjust the color have failed to produce a uniform set.  Any suggestions for how I can go about accomplishing this task?

I probably should have given a little more information about what I'm trying to do here.  The images were taken in RAW format.  The change in lighting conditions is not only due to the changing sunlight, although that plays a role.  The real problem is that there were different light sources throughout the procedure with different spectra so the color profiles of each image (or more accurately of blocks of pictures within the set) are different. I've tried setting the white balance to the same level for each image, running batch auto-tone, auto-color, and color match to a reference image, but there are still noticeable changes between blocks of images in the set.  I think the problem is that the auto-tone and auto-level processes normalize each image to itself but don't take the whole set into account.  When using color match to a reference image the results are a little better but different parts of the subject of the image seem to reflect different kinds of light in different ways so even if I use a selection from one part of the image to be adjusted the rest of the image still looks different between blocks of images.
After looking into some of the theory behind what needs to be done here it seems that I need to find reference colors that are present in each image but that are as statistically independent from each other as possible.  Then, I need to pick a reference image and adjust the levels of the reference colors in the entire image set to match those in the reference image.
I'm not sure if there is a function in photoshop that accomplishes that type of computation, or if there's another approach to color correction, but if anyone knows anything about this type of work any guidance would be much appreciated.

  • Applying same transition to many clips

You are probably going to be sick of my questions soon.
How do I apply the same transition to all of the clips I have entered. I cannot imagine that I have to place each on individually. In my old program there was a botton to "ripple transition" which applied it to every clip. Can I do that in FCE somehow????
    Thanks again!!!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
As filters, you can double-click on any transition from browser to open the settings. Tweak them as you want and drag the transition (or filter) in favorite folder (in browser).
Now you can apply this "custom" transition (or filter) strait from browser by dragging it into the timeline.
You can also tweak a first transition (settings, duration, etc) in timeline, and option-drag it over all other transitions applied in timeline.
Finally, if you want to add the default transition between all clips in timeline, simply put the playhead before the first clip, select all clips in timeline and drag them into canvas over the edit overlay on overwrite with transition selected.

  • Apply video filter to many clips at once?

I have a 'sub' sequence that I have embedded into my main sequence and I want to apply a video filter mask (feathered oval) to make the sequence look like its projected from an old film projector. I don't want to apply the filter to each individual clip in my sub sequence because there are many. What is the best approach to doing this? thanks!
    (FCP 5.12)

OK - so I used the word 'embedded' and I think I meant 'nested' - so how exactly do I apply the effect to the nested sequence? I tried and can't seem to make it work - e.g. when I double click on the sequence to open it in the viewer, it opens the nested sequence as its own sequence instead - I can't open it in the viewer to apply the filter.

  • Auto-select clip under playhead? (for color correction)

    Hi all
Another newbie question concerning color correction in FCS2.
When moving from clip to clip in the timeline, the viewer (which contains the 3-way color correction filter) doesn't refresh until I remember to double-click on the current clip to select it. In other words, if I change a filter on one clip, then move in the timeline to the next clip, the viewer still contains the previous clip's filter, and if I forget, I'll start fiddling with it, thinking I'm now looking at the current clip.
    Still with me?
So, my question is, is there an "auto-select" feature whereby, as I move my playhead along the timeline, clips on a selected track (eg V1) will automatically get selected and loaded into the viewer?
I know there is an auto-select feature for tracks, which I've enabled for my video track, but it doesn't seem to be meant for what I want.
    Thanks!
    Matt

If you set the SYNC to OPEN, what is being played in the time line (and displayed in the Canvas view) will also be displayed in the Viewer.
Just a point of clarification - the Viewer doesn't hold the CC filter, it will only display the filters that have already been applied to currently displayed clip. If the next clip displayed in the viewer has not had the 3way CC applied, the 3way CC won't display as part of the filters on that clip.
    Good luck,

  • Contrast/Color Correction render problem

So, on certain clips in my timeline when I apply either the Fast Color Corrector or Levels corrector to increase input black, when it is rendered the top line of pixels blinks black per frame. It's really annoying and looks unprofessional, and I am doing a video for a music client. I have tried replacing the clip, replacing the color correction, and nothing seems to be working. Anyone know what would be causing this?

No - the original video is fine, it only does this when I apply a color correction effect. It's only certain clips too, I don't know if it would in some way be related to sub-clipping. It appears to be sporadic since clips that come from the same source file are fine.
Also no - the computer I am using is relatively new and fast, so I haven't been using anything like that.
I have tried everything from re-subclipping to re-importing the footage. Do you think it's just a general problem with my video card? Because occasinally when I render AVI's I get a frame or two of random static...it's just weird that it is sporadic on the clips, but also consistently present on those ones that are affected. Or maybe it is my general cursed luck with technology.

  • No Color Correction to FCP from Color

I have project that I graded in Color, I rendered it and send it back to FCP, when I viewed to clips in the FCP timeline from Color, no color correction was applied to the clips, did I do something wrong?
How do I make work properly?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sigi

    Sigi
I am new to Color but had the same problem, I was rendering out to an external harddrive. Re-render or move your files to 'Documents Folder' > 'Color Documents' > 'Renders'.
Then re-send your color project to FCP.
I'm no expert but this might work.

  • FCPX Color Correction affecting transparencies

I have a problem where color corrections applied to a video clip are effecting a transparent graphic above the video, where 100% white is somehow being given a luminosity above 100%.
I created a screencapture video showing the problem to clearify: http://youtu.be/cX37HmPASok
This is what the transparent shadow should look like when it is on a 100% white background: http://imgur.com/a/ksiYY#0
But this is what it looks like when the exposure of the object below it is increased to clip the white highlight: http://imgur.com/a/ksiYY#1
I don't understand why increasing the exposure doesn't max the brightness out at 100% white. How do I keep the luminosity from effecting my transparency?
    THANKS!

TOOOO perfect! Thanks Tom. I was able to find two videos that elaborated on your comment to solidify a solution.
The Broadcast Safe Filter is definitely the solution, but for some reason it gets applied BEFORE the Color Correction gets applied (which I see is why your compound clip work-around is necessary).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6Edju6ktL8
I also came across this video today though that offers a simpler solution. By creating an empty Title template in Motion, I can apply the Broadcast Safe Filter to it and span it across the entire video above the color corrected footage but under my transparent slides.
    http://www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/945-how-to-build-and-use-adjustment-la yers-in-final-cut-pro-x
I'll have to reconstruct my color management process in the future, but this is a quick solution for me right now.
    Thanks!

  • Color correction in FC Pro when working with multiclips

Is there someway to preserve the color correction I apply in the sequence timeline to a clip, and to preserve the motion attributes I apply (i.e. it's in the sequence, then I double click to show it in the clip viewer and make adjustments) when I then include that clip (through the bin) in a multiclip?
Basically I want to have to avoid repeating angle-specific corrections for each edit as I go along in a multiclip.
    MikeR

I tried applying corrections to each before making the multiclip and it worked this time. I think what fooled me is that the 4-in-1 window reflects the original clips. But canvas playback shows the changes in the selected angle.

  • Color Correction help...

    Hello,
In still working on these issues, when I turn on the Range Checker, and scroll thru the clip, I notice an “X” on the upper-right-hand side of the clip in the Viewer - what does this mean?
Then, when I start color correcting w/the color correction 3-way wheel, a different wheel opens up each time for each clip. By the time I get to the end of my project, I had opened and closed several color correction tabs, How do I know which color correction tab corresponded to which clip, if I want to go back and do more color correction? Do I have to count clips to correspond w/wheels? There must be a better way - thanks so much.

    kristina,
what robbosaur is too diplomatic to say is you need to crack open your manuals and figure this out. if you would have looked around for the range check filter in the manual, it would have told you what the x or the check mark signifies.
also, you should probably get real cozy with the manual when it comes to applying filters and then altering them, this is real basic but confusing stuff. i highly recommend the tutorials and there are excellent 3rd party texts out there, especially from peachpit press.
it will help you to gang the canvas to open your sequence clip in the viewer, that way your sequence clip will already be open in your viewer when you stop the playhead and then when you open the "filters" tab, you'll see what you've applied to that clip.
i hope you're viewing your corrections on a monitor that best represents your delivery format.

  • How to color correct an entire nested sequence?

    Hi Everyone,
So I'm attempting to color correct a camera at a time (multiple clips from the same source clip) which in recent projects I did individually. Is there a way to select an entire string of clips and color correct them and apply all at once in a nested sequence or am I doomed to color each individual clip in the nested sequence with no selection and paste options? Thanks in advance guys.
    Mike Diaz

in sony vegas it would be a matter of placing all the same angle shots on one video track, then using the track fx to have one effect be applied to all the clips on that track. similar to how its done with audio in a daw. premiere doesn't have that feature and tries to make up for it with adjustment layers and nesting but its not the same. adjustment layer is easy unless the footage is mixed on the timeline, then you would have to try nesting footage on a separate track. nesting makes it messy to go back and edit, unlike the track based fx in sony vegas, so might do this as one of the last steps of the project.

  • Color Correction Rendering

    Hi Guys,
I'm working with some DVCPRO HD 720p footage. I drop it into the timeline and it plays fine without rendering. However when I go on to make color corrections it has to render the entire clip. Now forgive me if this is nothing new to people but just wanted to get clarification. I thought because I was using the Easy Setup for the footage I captured, I wouldn't need to render color correction as I thought this was in Real Time.
If someone could clarify this for me that would be great!

That's exactly the same as my settings:
Try creating a new Sequence - that will ensure the Sequence settings exactly match the Easy Setup.
Drag a clip to that - and if the problem still exists, try Trashing your Preferences.
FCP gets it’s knickers in a twist from time to time and if you trash your preferences it will often sort things out (with no harm done to your project etc etc) . . .
    Download FCP Rescue :
    http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
Once it’s downloaded, hit Backup first, then hit Trash. If the Trash does no good, hit Restore and everything's as it was. (Easy-Peasy)
FCP Rescue is freeware but there’s provision to make a donation if you wish – (it’s well worth it)

  • Color correct clips before making muliticlip?

    Hello,
I would like to color correct my three camera clips before making a multiclip to save time, but the video scopes will not allow me to see my changes when I color correct. I have to drag each clip to the timeline and color correct each clip before I see modifications to the videoscopes. Even then, I have to use only the clips in the browser to make the mulitclip. Is there a more efficient process to put my clips through a filter(s) process (ie..color correction, de-interlace) before making a multiclip?
    Thanks,

  • How to apply 3 way color correction to multiple clips in Final Cut Pro?

I have multiple clips from the same time and space footage that need color correction. I have worked on one of the clips and found the settings I like.
Is there a way to apply that correction to other clips without starting from scratch on each one?
    Thanks!

SoCal (above) listed one way. Another way you can do it if you like the color correction that you have done and want to save it, you can click the picture of the hand in the color correction tab and drag it into the browser. This saves that specific arrangement of colors, highlights, etc.
Also, this might be a little easier but instead of pasting attributes and right clicking you can just grab the hand (that I just talked about) and drag it onto the clips you want to apply the same color correction to. The hand is located in the color correction tab (in viewer) and is under the "numeric" button.
Note: All of your clips in your timeline will have different contrasts, brightness, colors, etc. NO clip is going to have the EXACT same attributes as another. It doesn't matter how expensive and professional your camera is. Every shot is different whether you are using artificial lighting or the natural lighting. Having that said, you will probably still need to adjust your different clips a little bit to make them look like they are in the same room at the same time. Hopefully if your lucky or had perfect lighting for all of your shots, you will not have to do much messing around with your contrast, brightness, etc. Good luck!

  • Color correction applied to multiple clips

When using FCPX, is there a way to apply a color adjustments to all the fragments of the same clip? Or is there a way to batch edit clips without actually having to do all your color correction before editing?

    Hi,
google Adjustment Layer for fcpx and you'll probably find a free one, or simply make one yourself if you have motion by creating a title effect, but remove the text item. Put in the correct folder for it to show up in the Title effects broswer and then simply add it to the timeline above all the other clips. Add colour correction or any other effect you want to it. it will effect everything under it.
