Color Correction with in Final Cut Pro 6

Hi All,
I have a showreel of my work, and some of the clips have sections that are darker than I would like them to be, and I would like to correct the color issues. Is it possible to only correct 3 seconds of over dark video, and not have the entire 2 hours thus over bright? I have tried with key frames, and maybe I am not doing the right way.
I put a keyframe on the 1st frame of the clip in question, then on the last frame of the correct section of the clip, then 1 frame later another keyframe, this is now on the incorrect color clip, then 2 more keyframes, last frame of incorrect color, then on the 1st frame of correct video.
Is this ok?
Justine

A better way is to blade (or add edit) at the beginning and end of the section that needs the correction and just apply the color correct filter to that section.

What's wrong with my Final Cut Pro 7.03?
I have just started up a new project.
Every time I try to ad a clip in top of each other a "general error" shows up. The sequence viewer turned red and it displays that I have to close and reopen the window to restore.
The only "new thing" I do - is the use/brand of camera.
Now I use the canon D5 mark 3 for my project (before D5 mark 2)
What's wrong??? Do I need to update my Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 And how do I do this???
Final Cut Pro 7, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Did you use Log & Import?  Or did you at least convert the D5 files before importing?  FCP doesn't work with those files natively.

  • Will the new final cut pro x work with my Final cut pro version 6.0.6 data

will the new final cut pro x work with my Final cut pro version 6.0.6 data

    Thanks Tom.
So I will need  upgrade to FCP 7 first, then convert to an XML file in 6.0.6, then convert to another file that FCP X can read? I have a lot of half done projects that need finishing. Is this process very complex and time consuming?
Maybe I should be approaching this from a different angle. The reason I am asking is that I now need to upgrade to a new Mac book pro and have been told that I cant run final cut pro 6.0.6 on the new models using maverick. Is this true?

Just copy the Application FCPX to your CD. When you want to install drag the FCPX to the Application folder and you are done.

  • Color correcting in french final cut

    Hi everyone,
I'm using a french version of final cut pro HD 4.5. I can't find the color correction tab with the three cercles, does anyone use a french version so I can fallow propely the path that will lead me to make my color corrections. If not, maybe you can guide me in my task: I shot a video with a white machine. When I did the shooting, I wanted to create a look that cannot identifie any space or room, so I've used white foam core. The problem is that even if I did my white balance, my background and the machine is not white enought to give the impression of a " no where place". It's been a while since I did editing and I've never use color correction before. I know that there are tutorial that exist but time and money are a matter of facte that I can't purchase them for the moment. If anyone can help me and guide me in my task, because I've lost a lot of precious time trying to find a solution, it would be very appreciate.

    Jacques,
    DAVID,
Your answer was helpful but Jacques was able to identifie the exact term wich help me a lot because the word in french is quite different then color correction.
Now, how I isolate my object from my background and moreover, my background is not the same white everywhere, it there a way of standardizing the whole background without my principal object being over-exposed?

  • Will Compressor 4 work with my Final Cut Pro 7 in Final Cut Studio?

I decide to use Final Cut Pro 7 instead of Final Cut Pro X to use the Apple Color. But I wonder if the Final Cut Pro 7 can render video or work with Compressor 4 instead of the Compressor 3. Any ideas of what to do?
    Thank you for the answer.
    Steve

This recently came up in another thread. on FCP6.
I'd say pretty much the same applies to FCP7  as FCP 6 – except that the features for C3.5 are even more comparable to C4 than are C3.0. No interoperability between the new Compressor and the legacy versions of FCP, but many of us have always just exported QT movies fron FCP and used those as source fies. That can obviously still be done "working with" C4.
Is it worth the $49 for those who own FCS3? IMO, it's doubtful unless you do a lot of Web hosting work.
    Good luck.

  • Annoyed with JVC/Final Cut Pro import problem; will they ever fix this?

Annoyed with Final Cut Pro JVC import problem; will they ever fix this?
I've shot footage on JVC GY-HD111E in the UK in 720p/25p PAL mode.
I'm trying to import lots of short clips (average 10 seconds) into Final Cut Pro (latest version with 720p/25p support) with a new Mac Pro maxed out with ram and 3 extra internal HDs.
Problem is, on a scene-break i.e. pause/stop, Final Cut detects this and creates a new clip, but it takes about 5 seconds to 'searching for media" before it starts the new clip. Because some clips are only very short, this 5 second delay sometimes means I only get the final few frames of a clip, rather than the entire 5 seconds or so of it.
JVC UK are blaming Apple and are saying it is up to them to fix it as Premiere and Edius does not have this problem.
However, Symbiosis in the UK (who do HD-Connect box) say that the JVC ProHD cameras do not wrap the shots up properly at the end, they are kind of left open and this creates problems on scene-breaks.
I've tried turning off the "create new clip on timecode break" etc, but it does not make any difference, when I do this it simply quits capturing on a scene break. Besides I have about 300 cutaways like this and I don't want to spend the rest of the year breaking them up on the timeline as this would be a futile and long workflow.
I'm importing and working on a native HDV 720p/25p timeline and this is the way I want to work. I've already imported and edited 4 hours of footage, but these 4 hours were easy as all 4 tapes had no start/stop points, they were recorded continuously from beginning to end of tape for 64 minutes each time so importing was no problem; 1 clip per tape.
But now I've come to my 5 tapes containing hundreds of cutaways I'm kind of screwed and need some advise on how I can import them natively in HDV without losing this 5 seconds off the beginning of each clip whilst FCP searches for the media each time.
I've been told this issue is definately with FCP, any ideas how I can get around this?

I haven't heard of this JVC/FCP problem, so I can't comment on it. However, whoever shot the cutaways didn't do you, the editor, any favors.
I've been doing video since 1984, and I've got to say, anyone who shoots a scene that is only 5 or 6 seconds long on tape is making a huge mistake, and it's been that way since the beginning of computerized editing in the late 70s.
Shoot at least 5 seconds of pre-roll before the shot begins, then roll tape for at least 5 seconds after you've got the shot. That's the protocol I've followed for 22 years now. Tape is cheap, edit suite time isn't.
But laying down only 5 to 6 seconds for a scene is wrong, IMO.

  • Problem with opening Final Cut Pro X

I had just moved the 'Final Cut Pro' folder with the events and projects from movies into my own folder. I also had just added another desktop (Dunno if that is part of the problem).
Since then, when I open FCP, it has a message saying 'The selected location is already in use.' 'The storage location "BlakeHay48" on this computer is already in use by "BlakeHay48" on "Blakes-iMac". To access the location, quit Final Cut Pro on "Blakes-iMac" or remove the location.' I pressed okay and then also found all of my projects and events had gone. I thought at first it could just be because I opened it in another desktop, even though that shouldn't happen, but then when I tried to create a project or an event it would say 'The operation couldn’t be completed. Cannot allocate memory'
Then I realised it could be because I moved the files, so I moved them back, but nothing changed. I have deleted the app and re-installed it, but nothing is working. Can someone please help me?
    Thanks-

Thank you so much. Can't believe I didn't think to restart it. Thanks

  • Always crash with my Final Cut Pro

    Hi guys,
I have problem with my FCP, my FCP always close/crash while I'm edit my project. approx. it closed around 14 until 17 times a day. I using FCP 7.0.3 on snow leopard Mac OS X (10.6.6). I use Macpro machine with spec 2x2.4Ghz Intel Quadcore, Ram 6Gb. I already try many ways to fixing by formating an OS, re-install Final Cut Pro, change Harddrive for the system, added memory into 8Gb but still got this problem. I'm editing XDCAM EX-3 format with setting sequence XDCAM EX 1080 25P VBR 35Mb/s. my FCP project size 175Mb. Would you guys help me to solve this problem and give solution to fixing this?? would you inform me by email to. my email [email protected]
    thanks guys...
    Best Regards,
    Andi Manoppo

    my FCP project size 175Mb.
Start by dumping sequences that are not current. Get rid of everything that is not needed to move the project forward.
If you reduce the project file size, the reliability will increase.

  • Can i use cinema tools that came with FCP7 with new final cut pro x

I want to make sure I can still add smooth slow motion to my clips by using cinema tools instead of just slowing down the video. I am debating on upgrading to FCPX but would like to continue to use my older programs when needed.

I think FCP-X contains frame rate conforming as options within the application - making Cinema Tools not necessary for that purpose.
Best to ask in the FCP-X forum, here.

  • Color correction with a HD TV

Can I use my new Panasonic HD TV model TH-42PX80U as a NTSC monitor for secondary color correction using both Final Cut Pro out of a Macbook Pro intel? What cable I can use to conect via HDMI? Will the color acuracy will be similar to that of a NTSC color correction monitor? will my TV do a decent job for NTSC? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
I am not sure I have this HDMI cable to be use in my macbook pro does it comes with it?

I have to go back to the avid because they work on avid: adding titles, outputting to digibeta and so on
FCP does all this..there are hundreds of editors and facilities doing this daily, on broadcast television shows. I have been doing this for over 2 years.
As far as I know, there is compression-decompression going to tape and back even in fcp, so there IS a little loss.
Where did you hear that? It is incorrect. Outputting via a capture card to digibeta results in no quality loss whatsoever.
If you have an "official" source of information saying otherwise, please do let us know.
I looked at the AJA website and Decklink website and neither of them say that they compress-decompress upon output. If footage is captured via firewire, there is no quality loss, as was done on the Avid...and similarly with FCP. If you capture with a capture card as a different codec, it will compress it into that codec, but depending on the codec, there is little loss, nothing you'd notice. But Avid does the same thing, capturing to a different codec will result in unnoticable loss in quality. Outputting DV to digibeta...there will be a conversion to the digibeta format, that is unavoidable...on AVID as well as FCP. But again, unnoticable.
Can you point to an "official" Avid site that says there is no compression-decompression upon output?
the broadcast safe filter doesnt cut illegal blacks, cuts off only the values that are too high.
Uhm...where did you hear that? It cuts off the top and bottom. Although I don't rely on this solely...I color correct each clip until it falls within range, then add the Broadcast Safe filter, just in case.
FCP handles adding titles and outputting to digibeta, but then you'd need to invest in a capture card. But, since you are in DV land, why not output to a DV tape and then they capture that DV tape...that is a lossless transfer?

  • Final Cut Pro sluggish with G-Speed drives

We are having major problems with our Final Cut Pro system. We are running 6.01 on a dual 3.0 Ghz Intel with 8 gigs of ram. We have two G-Speed running of off SCSI. Whenever the scratch disk is set to one of the drives Final Cut Pro can barely open a project. Any ideas? I think we need to rebuild the system to truly troubleshoot this but if anyone has any advice that would be great.
    Thanks!

With the G-Speed drives still mounted we tried running a job from the G-Raid that our client's project came in on and we had the same trouble we were having with the G-Speed. Since we are only working with DVCPROHD we thought it wouldn't be a problem but we still encountered a slow open.
When we first started the project we copied the files from the G-Raid to the G-Speed drives. We then copied the project file to the desktop and first encountered a slow open.
The project did open faster by accessing the project file from within the folder where the files were located on the G-Speed. For some reason that worked better.
I will see if moving the thumbnail cache helps our FCP woes.

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?
    More information:
My Hauppauge HD PVR settings are set to custom. Video Constant Bit Rate, the average bit rate: 13.5 Mbps. The audio is AAC.
