Color cycling in flip4mac output

Here's a weird one. I just finished a bunch of exports of dv quicktimes to wmv's using compressor and there's a noticable cycling of the color from red to green and back again. It's possible that there's a very slight cycling in the original material (there might have been some flourescent light in some of the shoots, but I don't remember any) but it ain't noticeable. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on. I'm going to do a test compression on a pc and see if it happens there.

not sure if this applies to you or what the issue is but

  • Late MacBook Pro's built in iSight acting weird (goes thru color cycle)

I got my late MacBook Pro 2.4, and it was all good, and during one of my iChat video conferences the other person informed me that my video was acting strange. It was going through a color cycle (green, red, yellow, etc), you could see my image but it would cycle through each color very very fast and non-stop.
I had the unit replaced, got the new one, and it all seemed perfect, until last night, the color cycle started up for about 3 seconds and stopped again. What could be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a software thing?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem. After a few seconds of the color cycle it would go to black. This was on any program using the iSight including Skype, Photo Booth and iChat.
They replaced my display/iSight and it's fine now.

  • Fun with Color Cycling...

    Here's the clip.
Color cycling is a simple animation technique that requires very little horsepower, but can be quite effective. The definition is: In computer graphics, a technique that simulates animation by continuously changing colors rather than moving the objects.
Today I had to put some arrows on a graph and it occurred to me that it'd spice it up a bit if I showed movement along the arrows as the text typed on. I used a gradient fill for shapes, then used a gradient colorize filter. I placed a ramp on the offset parameter to continually shift the offset, thus constantly moving the colors along. If you make the ramp end value be an even multiple of 360, your animation will loop.
Oh, and it runs at 30 fps on my lowly 9600 equipped 1Ghz DMPD home system.
    Here's the ColorCycling project...
    Have Fun!

You're all too young to remember "Pola-Magic." This is an antique animation system from the days of black and white plumbicons. A spinning disk of polarizer material that was placed in front of the studio camera. Polarized plastic sheets were used to create weather map symbols and other oddball but coarse graphics. it wasn't color-cycling, it was gray-cycling. My cub scout troop visited the TV station and the weather guy showed us how it worked. I can still remember some of the guys being really disappointed. But it left a huge impression on me.
Patrick, I don't know what this place would be like without your bottomless supply of inspiration and patience. Of course, you're writing the definitive Motion2 book, aren't you? I will pre-order two copies.

  • Color crashes setting Video Output to Blackmagic.

I just opened my first project in Color. A 60s commercial digitized from HDCAM-SR to Blackmagic 23.976 10bit RGB. When I try to set the Video Output to the correct output, the program crashes.
I have reason to believe that my Decklink HD Pro card installed in the PowerMac Dual 2GHz system I'm running on is incompatible with Color. Is there a list somewhere of what cards are supported? According to the Silicon Color site, Final Touch 2k, Apple Color before it was purchased, there is a compatibility list and my card is not on it. However there have obviously been some minor changes done.
Anyone else have trouble with this?

I'm using a Decklink HD Pro card in a Dual 2.5 G5 without a problem. Here's what I'd do to try to fix your problem (before trying to hack the prefs):
    • Download the latest drivers and Uninstall, then Install the BM drivers and restart.
    • Delete Color's prefs, then open Color and select the display. If it works, Color should remember the output settings from then on. I'd also re-do the Send to Color just in case the previous Send was corrupted.
Also, some common problem around here seems to be people running two display cards and people not turning off the Video Desktop in the Decklink preference panel. Both of these things will kill your setup.

  • 50Hz cycling of digital output

    Hello,
I would like to cycle a digital output at 50Hz with a 50% duty cycle. I am only able to cycle the output at up to 32Hz. Why?
    I am using NiDAQ 7.1 with Visual C++ 6.0 on a 1GHz Pentium with 1GB RAM.
    The code is attached.

    Hello,
After looking at your code for a few minutes and I have a couple of suggestions that might help to solve this issue:
    1. Try removing the printf() function calls inside the while loop that is writing to the digital line. Sometimes the printf() function can take a significant amount of time to execute, this is especially apparent in tight timing loops like this one.
    2. Im not sure what DAQ board you are using but all of our E-series DAQ boards have counter/timers onboard. These timers are better suited to generating pulse trains at various frequencies. There is an example which demonstrates how to do this that installs with NI-DAQ. Just go to your NI-DAQ install directory on your hard drive (usually C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ
\), from there go to \Examples\DAQmx ANSI C\Counter\Generate Pulse\Dig Pulse Train-Cont. This project generates a continuous pulse train from one of the counters on a multifunction DAQ board.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if this doesnt solve your problem or there is anything I need to clarify. Have a great day!

  • Messed up colors with quicktime h264 output

    Hello to you all,
Probably not the first time this is mentioned on the apple forum, but I still can't find a working solution for this problem:
Whenever I output a h264 file with quicktime, my colors are messed up.
I have a red car on video. It's red in the original AVCHD MTS file viewed with VLC, it's still red when converted to AIC with voltaic and viewed in Quicktime. But then it happens, exporting to h264 results in a red car with a light blue cast over it, it looks purple!. Both in VLC and Quicktime.
Tried colorsync filters, probably every existing combination, only makes things worse.
Tried to attach other color profiles with automator, only makes things worse.
    I have a wonderfull screenshot of this...hmm I can't attach pictures into this forum...or can I ?
Does anyone know why my car is red in the original raw footage, still red in the AIC file and NOT red but slightly purple in the h264 export.
    My settings for h264 output:
    Bitrate 24Mbps. Multiple cycles.

Wrong forum. This one is to support the FCS application COLOR. It isn't to discuss the vagaries of how your software interprets color information.
You will get better response by posting your question in the forum on this Apple site dedicated to the software you are using for the transcoding.

  • Color Coded 5.1 Outputs h

I want some help trying to decode all those jacks on the back of my sound card. It has the standard IC99 colors i think, It's a SB li've! card that came with my dell.
    Pink (mic)
    Green (spkr)
    Black
    Orange
    Blue
I know the first two, but what are the last three? I tried google but didnt find the direct info i'm looking for. I have a shelf system and I'm trying to connect the RCA jacks to my computer, but I'm not sure where to hookup the adapter cord. As of right now, it's in the black jack (from what i read, it's the line-out2?) and the sound is real muddy and bass is like non-existent. I don't have a "Creative Toolbar" that I can find, but i went through my hard dri've and found the equilizer and set treble and bass to full maximum (all the way up?), but still no bass (depressing considering I have a 600 watt subwoofer...). All I have is a stereo shelf system and a 600 watt subwoofer (feeds off the system) that I want to connect to the sound card, no rear/side channel or center channel as of yet (although considering I have 0 8 ohm speakers in my closet that work...). I dont watch DVD's very often on my computer (I have a seperate DVD player for that) so a full-on surround system nor rear/side/center speakers are in my plans anytime soon yet to be directly connected to the computer.

Well, I hope I can help, but the way my system is configured, both the center and sub come out of one jack (orange). Digital, however also comes out of that same jack. Make sure that you don't have the digital output turned on or your analog system will not function correctly. Now, on to the speakers. I actually have the Creative speakers to match my sound card. I'm not sure of your speaker configuration, but I'm thinking on most systems that the center and sub will be tied together on one jack. Meaning that, you know how you have two sections on a plug one for Left channel and one for right? Well, since the center and sub are both mono (single channel) each one has it's own section on the plug. Similar to the Left and Right. So what I'm saying is I believe that your sub and center will be tied together and you just take the orange plug and put it into the orange jack, making sure that you don't have digital checked on your computer. I hope this helps, I know it's long, but hopefully you can understand my babble. If it's not how I've described it, I really can't help you because I don't know too much about the schematics of the card. I'm pretty sure it will work though.

  • Pantone color bars in PDF output

Does anyone knows how to get in PDF output Pantone color bars? When you check "color bars" in "marks" menu in PDF output and save your work as PDF, you'll get CMYK color bars even if there's no CMYK color at all. I don't want to draw swatches and fill them with Pantone color to get those color bars. Any idea pls.? Is it possible at all?

Hello, I don't know the right answer.
I look also for a solution and have the same question as you "Does anyone knows how to get in PDF output Pantone color bars? When you check "color bars" in "marks" menu in PDF output and save your work as PDF, you'll get CMYK color bars even if there's no CMYK color at all. I don't want to draw swatches and fill them with Pantone color to get those color bars. Any idea pls.? Is it possible at all?".
I have CMYK colors and two Pantone colors and need to know if it's possible to get in PDF output Pantone color bars (I do save as from Illustrator). And if yes, then what should I do to get this Pantone color bar in my PDF?

  • Color levels change on output

    Hi there, folks
For a while now I have been having a lot of problems with output in AfterEffects where color levels are concerned.  Everything always seems to come out quite desaturated.  I usually end up creating a top positioned adjustment layer and pump the chroma levels using Hue/Chroma plugin, but depending on which device the work is being viewed on the results are mixed.  Is there a general rule of thumb to what the levels should be  ?  Is there a plugin tool to help make sure everything is healthy? Why does this loss of saturation occur?
The footage is usually starting off from a Canon 5D. I usually output as Animation compressor and then bring it into Media Encoder and output as H264 with very high settings.  This is where the desaturation occurs, but I've had the same problem exported as H264 directly from AE.
I apologize if this is the height of stupidity, but any advice would be much appreciated

  • PLEASE HELP - COLOR SHIFTING PROBLEM on output NTSC monitors

    http://www.smmlv.com/testproject/
Above is a link to a layered photoshop file that has a USA map and over a dozen network overlays used in a section of our video. I animate each layer on sepeartely in the video and have noticed a major problem recently, the color of the art does not hold true to placement. I created the art originally in Illustrator and then converted the file to Photoshop at 640x480, 72dpi. This has always worked perfectly in the past to display and animated artwork in FCP.
Right now, in FCP I am using the NTSC DV 3:2 frame size, and the compressor of DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. I have a JVC Profressional DV deck that hooks up through firewire and sends S-Video to my monitors. This setup has always given me a great picture even though it is not completely upcompressed. Using these settings and this art, the color lines on this map in red, light blue, yellow and purple all have a "color shift" to the left about 5 pixels. It makes it appear that the line is where it is in the file, but the color overlaying the line is offset to the left 5 pixels and transperant to about 50%. This occurs only when viewed on some TV's and NTSC monitors and projectors. The strange thing is, some monitors display the color aligned almost perfectly on these maps and other monitors and projectors show this "digital halo" of color shifting really bad. If I take the layered network overlays in these colors and color tint them to black or grey, white, light green, or even light orange, they no longer have the color shifting and the detail is perfect.
Is there any way to fix this problem? I have tried duplicating the sequence and setting the compressor to 8bit Uncompressed, and while my captured footage is not this compression, in theory the art should render at this higher resolution setting. This did nothing to solve the problem.
I also have tried using different Broadcast safe and Y/C corrector filters with different results. The Y/C filter allowed me to reposition the color problem and thus removing most of the problem, but also removing most of the color. Nothing else has allowed me to seemingly move the color into the proper possition.
What is causing this color shift on the displayed NTSC image?
In FCP 4.5 I can see my rendered video in the program viewer screen and besides the pixel compression appearing on the lines, overall the video looks great paused or even better when playing. Then you view it through my deck onto my Pro Sony NTSC 19" color monitor and it also appears great, with a slight color halo to the left of these colors, but the color in the lines are there. If you are a few feet from the screen and know what you are looking for you might see it, but doubtful. Then you view it using the same signal on a 17" Samsung TV and the color shifting makes the map and other art, like the clients blue logo, look horrible, with each color line appearing twice and offset left from each other as if you had double vision. Normally I would think it is the TV causing this, but then we tested this same movie on 2 differnt projectors. The $700 Epson projector displayed everything beautifully, again with only the slightest color halo to the left, but then the Panasonic $4000 projector made everthing in these colors look double vision again. What is going on???
One more thing to keep in mind, my color bars also show this problem with these colors as well as shot footage of these facilities. There are tall red poles in the shots and everything displays fine except for the red pole color looks like it's glowing off the pole to the left.
PLEASE tell me there is a solution to this.

I have tried Degaussing, using filters, changing cables, and testing other monitors and systems on these monitors, everthing I can think of to solve the issue. Is it FCPo or is it the monitors?... or is it a signal strength thing. Can monitors and projectors shift color when the signal is read from a DVD or Mini DV Deck? Is there a fequency difference (Ie: 75mgz or 80 mgz) that might be causing the shift in some monitors and not so badly in others. But if this was true, how would some DVD's (like Baby Einstein DVDs that use really bright colors) display red and blue perfect using these same player and monitor, while my projects is shifting color? Doesn't that rule out the signal from the DVD player if other DVD's do not have this issue?
I have uploaded the original art used, an exported .jpg file from the FCP timeline and sample photos of 2 different monitors to show to show this problem as best I can. http://www.smmlv.com/testproject/
Someone out there must have had this problem before. There's no way a color shift problem like this with Mini DV has gone on this long without someone seeing it.
One last thing about what I have tried... I do understand that with editing in Mini DV instead of uncompressed or HD video I lose a bit of resolution (4:2:2) and I see this compression occuring in some of the areas in the video where these problems persist. But, I did remake the art and rerender this project in an 8bit uncompressed settings and then displayed that up on the screen and I get the same color shift. I keep going in circles trying to find the culprit that is causing the delema.
PLEASE HELP! There are large tours going through our facilities daily and the large screen projector is displaying this problem as well. Let's just hope they don't notice and that their TV's at home or office does not display it on our final DVD's made.

  • Font color issues in published output

I have just upgraded a couple of older Captivate projects to 5.5.
On some of the slides I have click boxes set to open URLs when clicked, and I have colored the text blue and underlined it so that it looks like a hyperlink.
When viewing the published content I've noticed that my hyperlink text is black, instead of blue.
Has anyone run into this issue before?  I've searched the forums and couldn't easily find any references to this issue, although this is not the first time I've seen this problem with my courses.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Brian

Rod, thank you so much for the reply.
The blue is just your standard #0000FF blue, which should be safe with 8 bit quality, and the slides were set to 8 bit quality the last time they were published (and worked) in an older version Captivate.  Kind of weird, right?
BUT, being the optimist that I am, I took your suggestion and tried setting one of the slides to 24 bit, and the blue is blue once again rather than black!  Very bizarre, but faster than the work around I had found yesterday so I'm probably going to roll with it.  I found that changing the slide quality to 24 bit has a minimal impact on the size of the published swf file, so I'm good.
Again, oddly enough, my work around mentioned above involves changing the default caption style to what Captivate calls "default caption capture style".  With my caption style set as this my blue is blue, even with the slide quality set at 8 bit.  I took one of my older courses and went through changing all of the caption styles.  Took me a little while as changing the caption style changes the font, font color, font styles, font sizes, paragraph alignment settings, etc., etc.
And on a side track, I got to thinking after I noticed that changing the caption style seemed to fix the font color issue...  My original project used a custom caption style, one that I had not yet "reinstalled" since upgrading to Captivate 5.5.  So, I added the custom caption styles, even changed the name of the caption style and tried to reapply it, but no dice.
It seems that, with the slide quality set at 8 bit, if I use a caption style of "default caption style", my blue is black on publish.  But, if I use a different caption style, such as "default capture caption style", my blue is blue, even at 8 bit quality.

    Hi everyone!
I'm frustrated with my results after exporting a video with Adobe Premiere Pro (both CS6 and CC).
The color of the video output is slightly different to the original file (i've checked if it was a problem with my video player, but no, i've tested the video with WMP and others with no success).

I'm exporting the video using almost the same parameters from the original file.
Here's a screen shot of my settings in Premiere:
As you can see in the printscreen, the settings only differ from the original file parameters in the bit rate (which i raised a little),
the TV standard (which i have no ideia what it changes), the level of H.264 (which i raised from 4.0 to 4.1, 5.0 and 5.1), and the bit rate encoding (which i've tried using CBR, VBR 1, and VBR 2).
Just for my curiosity...why these numbers in orange are so extensive? I mean, the original video is only 01:35:30:06 in final output (which is correct).
Notice that i do not use key frame distance (as i don't know what it does).
If i'm doing something wrong, please tell me.

Well if i do that, the video will raise up GBs larger (and that is really bad).
    Why is it really bad?
Its a fact of digital  life. High datarate = quality.
example ...even the Youtube preset is in the 8mpbs area.
...and you are exporting 1 hr 35mins of media.

  • Color  for a Field in alv output

    Hi All,
I use a field in the ALV grid output which needs to display color (red or green) depending on certain validations. Please tell me how to display color for this field. The program uses oops.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    1. add one more field to ur final internal table say COLOR(4)
    2. in layout wa_layout-style_fname = 'COLOR'. " if its grid
wa_layout-style_fieldname = 'COLOR'. "if its list
    3. read table itab index 3.
    itab-color = 'C410'.
    modify itab index 3
    4. see program SHOWCOLO for all color codes
    1. Add a field of data type CHAR(3) to the internal output table.
    2. Enter the color code in the appropriate field of the row to be colored in the internal
    output table:
    Code: 'Cxy'
C = Color (all codes begin with 'C')
    x = color number ('1' - '9')
    y = highlight ('0' = off, '1' = on)
    3. Assign the internal output table color code field name to the IS_LAYOUT importing
structure IS_LAYOUT-INFO_FIELDNAME field and pass this structure in the ALV call
    interface.
To enable row coloring, you should add an additional field to your list data table. It should be of character type and length at least 4. This field will contain the color code for the row. So, let’s modify declaration of our list data table “gt_list”.
you should fill the color code to this field. Its format will be the same as explained before at section C.6.3. But how will ALV Grid know that you have loaded the color data for the row to this field. So, you make it know this by passing the name of the field containing color codes to the field “INFO_FNAME” of the layout structure.
    e.g.
    ps_layout-info_fname = <field_name_containing_color_codes>. “e.g. ‘ROWCOLOR’
You can fill that field anytime during execution. But, of course, due to the flow logic of screens, it will be reflected to your list display as soon as an ALV refresh occurs.
You can color an entire row as described in the next section. However, this method is less time consuming.
    Coloring Individual Cells
This is the last point about coloring procedures for the ALV Grid. The procedure is similar to coloring an entire row. However, since an individual cell can be addressed with two parameters we will need something more. What is meant by “more” is a table type structure to be included into the structure of the list data table. It seems strange, because including it will make our list data structure deep. But anyhow ALV Grid control handles this.
The structure that should be included must be of type “LVC_T_SCOL”. If you want to color the entire row, this inner table should contain only one row with field “fname” is set to space, some color value at field “col”, “0” or “1” at fields “int” (intensified) and “inv” (inverse).
If you want to color individual cells, then for each cell column, append a line to this inner table which also contains the column name at field “fname”. It is obvious that you can color an entire column by filling this inner table with a row for that column for each row in the list data table.

  • Colored console output?

Is it possible to change the color of the console output?
Ive seen that in C it is posible and i hope in java too.
i want to write for example errors in RED and Information GREEN and debuginfo WHITE.

The color of the output has nothing (or, little) to do with the language. It has to do with the console. Not all consoles can support color output.
The windows cmd.exe console and some consoles on linux can do color though. The way you activate it is by including escape codes in the output.
It looks like you've already found the info about that.
One way to approach this, would be to write loggers that display colors and use a logging framework. Or to replay the PrintStreams for System.out and System.err with subclasses that know about color.
    Just a suggestion.
