Color Density setting in LR Printing ignored?

I have a paper where the printing directions recommend setting the Color Density setting at -10%. On Mac, this is in the standard printing dialog's "Advanced Media Control" pane.
I printed a few images from Lightroom, trying out different settings, and this didn't make any difference to the output. I then tried printing the same images in InDesign, and the difference we remarkable. At the default setting, there really is too much ink on the paper.
So, I'm wondering if this is a known printing issue with Lightroom, or if there is any workaround or setting that I'm not setting correctly.
Versions: Mac OS X Mavericks, Epson 7900 Printer, Lightroom 5.7.1
Thanks

  • Print outs have thin border when -default-background-color is set

Hey everyone.  In my application the print out have this very thin border.  The -default-background-color is set to #333333 (dark grey) and this is the problem.  When I set the color to #FFFFFF (white), the thin borders go away.
When I set the default-backgroun-color to #FFFFFF, my loading screen is white.  I don't want that.
Does anyone know how I can have my loading screen with a #333333, but not have the thin border lines around my print outs?  Setting the border properties on the printed component doesn't work.  The problem is with the background color.
    Thanks for reading.
    Tom

Still hacking away at this problem.
I thought I had the fix until I deployed the AIR application.  Setting the -default-background-color to white worked fine when running from flex builder, but when I installed the application.  The "borders" are still showing.
Has anyone had any experience with this?  I'm printing Point of Sale receipts and they look like crap with these lines around them.  On top of this, some printers print differently.  The HPs print a border around the whole component. The Brother printers just print the left and right.  One of my customer's printers just prints the bottom and right borders.

How can I set the default print settings of my document as color.  I want the default print setting to be color when someone opens a document.  similar to duplex print preset is there a color print preset?

    Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

  • Photoshop Save As PDF Settings Text loses 100% Black or Color Density is too High

I am taking a CMYK Photoshop file and saving it as a PDF for a magazine.
By request, the company has asked that the color density does not exceed 260%.  In the output setings of the Save Adobe PDF dialog box, under color, I have:
    Color Conversion:  Convert to Destination
Destination: U.S. Web Uncoated v2 (told to me by the magazine to use)
Profile Inclusion Policy:  Include Destination Profile
When I create the PDF, SUCCESS!!! it works where the color density is under 260%.
I verified in Acrobat Pro X by going to View / Tools / Print Production / Output Preview with the following settings:
Simulation Profile:  U.S. Web Uncoated v2
    Sample Size:  3x3
Total Area Coverage checked and set to 260%
HOWEVER, when I do this, the text goes from CMYK 0 0 0 100 to using all four colors.  I have been recommended by the company to keep pure back on the text due to possible registration errors.
If I export out to PDF using the "PDF/X-1a" (inside photoshop pdf export), then I can get the text to keep 0 0 0 100 but the color density goes way over 260%.
Has anyone had this problem?   I cannot get the color density to stay under 260% AND keep the text to 100% black.
Any help is always greatly appreciated.

Thank you Mylenium for your reply.  What you have said makes sense but I am not sure how to implement it.  I did a google search on Photoshop Multichannel mode and I did really find anything helpful or relevant.
I tried playing with the multichannel just the same.  I made a copy of my photoshop document first (just in case I screwed up my file) and I converted it to multichannel mode from the current CMYK.  (Image / Mode / Multichannel)  Under "Channels" I looked at each layer (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black) individually and the text and other black areas in question were only on the black channel as it should be.  Now that I am in multichannel mode, I cannot "Save As" a Photoshop PDF file so I had to do a Print to PDF option.  I used the same export setting (or as close that I could tell) that I was using before and I still ended up with the same problem.  My color density is under 260% but my black text is using 4 channels.
I also noticed that when I converted to Multichannel mode, the color of the image did change / shift a bit which also has me a bit worried.
Can you describe how I am to implement Multichannel mode to get my desired output?  Also, can you elaborate on "custom channel for text blacks"?
I appreciate the help, thank you!

  • Why can't my pics match color of the screen when printed?

Hi there.... Please help me with my frustation.  I am using LR 2.6 and printing on a HP Photosmart B8550 on a MacBook laptop.   I can't get the colors on the printer to match the screen.  I have tried several profiles in the Color Management section of the Print Module (including Manage by Printer).    The prints are all darker and not as vivid as the monitor shows.  Although the levels in the histogram are OK, in order to get 'decent' color prints I have to increase the levels distorting the screen image.

so I have to assume its a basic flaw with lightroom
Actually it is certainly possible to print correctly with Lightroom. Almost all printers will just work. If they don't, you are either not setting up the driver right with the correct settings for ink density and paper type and/or are not using the correct color profile, or you have a really badly written driver for your printer that does not conform to standards. You can hack your way around the latter if you know what you are doing and get reasonable prints, but a new printer might simply be in order. In its quest for the best print quality and 64-bit compatibility with the latest Apple and MS operating systems, the Lightroom folks had to dump some of the old ways of doing things. The same thing happened with PS CS4. This unfortunately leaves some older and consumer oriented printers at the wayside.
Now all this is excacerbated by some bugs in the printing systems of both Apple's OS and Microsoft's, where printer drivers will often simply refuse to give up color managing prints, resulting in dark weird colors. I doubt this is your problem though as it mostly manifests itself when you are using your own printer profiles for different papers instead of the standard ones.

  • Printing Ignores Print Settings

Our mac seems to be ignoring printing settings and preset settings. We keep a black ink only fast draft setting for normal printing because it is fast and saves ink. However, all applications seem to be defaulting to High Quality, Photo Paper, Full Color, regardless of what is selected in presets. We have to select another preset, and then reselect our draft preset for the changes to stick in the print window. Then, sometimes the application will print according to our settings, and other apps just print in high quality full color anyway. This is a real time and money waster. Any suggestions?

  • How can I get my printer to print in color? I can only print black and white

HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z-------windowsxp      My printer will not print anything in color.   How can Iget my printer to print in color?  I can only print in black and white.    It is a new Printer and we just installed it 2 wks ago.

I am not sure I understand ''it still will not print. ''
If you cannot see any content on pages you printed or in print preview, the cause might be margins which are set too high.
#In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
#Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
#Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    '''Right''': 12.7
    '''Top''': 12.7
    '''Left''': 12.7
    '''Bottom''': 12.7
Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • How do I set up my printer to only print in black?

how do I set up my printer to only print in black?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system?   Depending on your printer model you might remove the color cartridge, forcing black only printing, or select "Print in Grayscale" and "Black ink only" in the driver.
Some printer models (whether from HP or other manufacturers) may not allow printing in black if the color inks are empty.  There are also some other constraints, black only printing is generally not available when printing on photo papers and may not be available when printing with an automatic two-sided duplexer.

  • Hp laserjet 100 color mfp m175 does not print from network nor via usb cable

My hp laserjet 100 color mfp m175 just stopped printing last week. I have tried everything recommended but nothing works. I have re-install it both on wireless network and usb connection = nothing works. It prints all internal reports but nothing from any computer. I have 3 computers which I have tried to print from. It even does not print the test page. Please dont recommend to update drivers etc. as I have spend 2 whole days on this and nothing works!

    Hi @einar1854,
I see by your post that you are unable to print by a USB or Wireless connection on 3 different computers, but the printer will print the hardware self tests. I can help you with this.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
For the USB connection, follow these steps if the there are no errors from the Print and Scan Doctor.
(once we get the printer printing this way, we can setup the wireless)
Here are steps to remove the jobs from the spool folder and restart the print spooler.
How to Clear Current Print Queue In Windows Vista & Windows 7.
Follow the steps in this document to get to the device manager to check for the printer entries.
How do I get into Windows Device Manager?
Then click on Identifying problems in Windows Device Manager.
In the list click on Universal Serial Bus controllers and look for USB mass storage device and USB printing support, (make sure any other printers are turned off or disconnected)
Let me know what it showed in the device manager.
Check to make sure the proper port is selected.
Go to start, Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
Make sure the USB has a check mark beside it, if not put the check mark there and apply the changes.
    Check the print Queue.
In the Devices and Printers folder.
Right-click the name of the product and then click See what's printing .
Click the Printer button, then click Cancel All Documents if there are any documents in the queue.
Click Yes to confirm the action.
If documents remain in the print queue, restart the computer.
    Try printing again.
What operating system are you using on the 3 computers? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
Print a configuration page to see also if the printer has a valid IPV4 address, so we have that information for when we setup the wireless. Printing a Configuration Report.
Provide the first 3 sets of numbers in the IPV4 address.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day!

  • CS3 color management won't match prints

Okay, I know there are a lot of boneheds who can't figure out how to set up color in Bridge and CS3 but I am at my wits end on this so bear me out.
    Windows XP and CS3
Bridge is set to; Enable color management in Bridge
    RAW conversion is SRGB
CS3 color settings/working space set to SRGB
Print color management is set to SRGB and Photoshop manages colors
Printer is set to "application manages colors" (HP B9180)(btw, I have also tried it set to SRGB)
Image looks the same on Bridge, RAW conversion, CS3 and print screen (dark)Image looks LIGHTER when viewed with any other program (including windows picture and fax viewer, HP print program, Paint Shop Pro and online) and prints to match the lighter image both on my HP and from my lab!
The closest I have been able to get to a total sync is to set Photoshop's color settings to "Monitor color," and uncheck the box in Bridge that says "apply color management settings in Bridge." In that case, Bridge and CS3 produce a lighter image but RAW conversion is still darker. Plus, who the hell wants to use monitor color in Photoshop!?

That's pretty much it David... I could get Photoshop to match my prints but then any other program would show the prints as being waaaay off-color.
Today I bought a spider2express and color balanced my monitor. Now everything seems to look in sync and my prints match very close (a little warm for my tastes..). Tech support at Photoshop told me it was a calibration issue but I thought that was bull... i mean, how can calibration make an image that looks different in two different programs look the same? Well, it does. As far as I understand it now (layman's terms)when you look at an image in windows viewer ot explorer or any other non-color management program you are looking at the image based on your monitor profile. When you look at the same image in photoshop the program uses it's own color management which then gets filtered through your monitor program to your eyes (but not to the printer). If your monitor profile is bad, the image looks bad.
    Or something like that :)

  • Only one color label set per photo???

I had thought I could make good use of color label sets to visually organize page-layout/photo-groupings from collections, like those three red ones will go to page 3 and those 2 blue ones on page 4.
AND then I though I could just switch to a Printing label set to take my photos through a "fix then print" "ready to print" "printed" set of cues.
BUT seems like if I switch to different label set, then all markings of previous set get hidden and if I relabel a photo that used to be yellow in the previous set red then it overwrites the other set as well?
The idea of sets then doesn't make much sense then because it's so easy to overwrite information applied from a different set.
any thoughts? looks like I can only use the colors for one thing and so it now seems a waste to dedicate it's use just to indicate that pics still need to be sent out for printing. Perhaps I'll have to setup keywords for that instead - but they aren't so visual.

Collections, Metadata like keywords, are for your long term Ids. Color Labels, Picks and Ratings are for shorter term operations, as I see it.

  • Pantone Color 5615 Coated Won't Print On 1 of 2 Identical HP DesignJet 5500s

    Hi,
We've run into an odd problem where we have 2 locations with identical setups: Creative Suite Design Premium 4, Mac Pros, and HP DesignJet 5500s.  The same InDesign file prints fine in one location with a DesignJet 5500, but when we print the same ID file at the second location that has a second DesignJet 5500, the only color that doesn't print correctly is Pantone 5615 Coated.  We're using same printer driver version for both printers.  I haven't yet checked Firmware versions for both printers.
On the printer that won't print Pantone 5615, the printer doesn't print it correctly in any of our Creative Suite applications.  We tried creating completely new files in ID, PS, IL and the color won't print.  We've checked color management in Bridge and ID and they seem OK.  We're not currently having any other color problems printing with any other Creative Suite files with this printer.  Colors are accurate all the way around.
I read the forum and saw a lot of posting about Pantone colors, so I will try some of the suggestions related to Pantone issues.  At the moment, I'm not at the location with the problem printer and can't try the suggestions until next week.
When I was at the location yesterday, we tried printing Pantone 5615 from Quark 7.5 and the color printed fine.  Obviously, we don't want to use Quark on an ongoing basis for this project.  It seems likely that it isn't a printer hardware problem since the Pantone color prints out fine from the Quark file.  There seems to be a setting somewhere in Creative Suite that the printer at our one location doesn't like, or there is some setting on the printer that is different than the other printer.  I don't think it's a network problem with the one printer versus the other printer because I would think Quark would then run into the same problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jason

I have the same issue with my 44" Z3100ps GP Photo, but it is when I print from Photoshop CS5. I am running OSX 10.68 and since the last Apple/HP printer driver update this last Summer my printer will not print solid black strokes or borders around an image, yet the image prints perfectly.
I tried to roll back the drivers with no success. If I make a solid black rectangler file and try print it nothing at all prints. If I scribble in Photoshop with white paint brush in the middle of that same file the printer skips the left edge of the black rectangle and then prints the middle scribbnle and right egde of the rectangle folowing the contour of the scribble on the left.
Had me baffled and still does, the printheads are in good working order. I print large canvas photos with 1.5" black borders used to cover the sides of stretched canvases. The only way I have found around this issue is to add an inch or so to the canvas size all the way around in photoshop and make it white. That seems to fool the printer into printing the file with the full black border. Still this is not a real fix, but at least it keeps my printer running.
Let me know if you find a solution to this. HP support doesn't help as they only give support to in warranty printers. Maybe Apple could help with the drivers?

  • Color settings grayed out in Print Settings

    Photoshop CS5 v12.1.
    Mac OS 10.6.
I'm printing to an Epson R1800 printer.
Print. Choose Color Management. Choose Document. Choose "Photoshop manages color". Choose the correct printer profile that matches the paper I'm using. Choose Relative Colorimetric.
THEN, I click Print Settings...under the 4th drop downu I choose "Print setting..." again. Under "Basic" "color" and "Color settings" are grayed out as are some of the "Media Type" options.
Is this normal? The problem is my black and white prints are printing really badly. They have color tones. I've cleaned the nozzles on my Epson printer, done everything the print utility suggests. All the test prints look fine.
I'm at a loss. Am I missing something obvious?

I see you haven't gotten much input so far from the Mac experts...
As a Windows user without an Epson printer myself, I can't comment on why you might have color problems under the covers where the software doesn't seem to be following the chosen settings.  However, perhaps I can get you thinking about how to further diagnose the problem...
The obvious thing I see is that you've chosen "Photoshop Manages Colors" in the main dialog, which implies your intent is to shut off color-management in the printer driver itself.  So to me the graying out of those settings in this case seems to make sense.
Have you tried a test print using the "Printer Manages Colors" setting?
Also, to try to test whether color-management isn't being turned off in the printer (regardless of what the grayed-out settings show), do you see any improvement if you use "Photoshop Manages Colors" but choose a standard profile, such as sRGB IEC61966-2.1 for the Printer Profile setting?

  • Setting UP to Print on Specific Papers with Specific Settings

I am setting up a brand new iMac, with new applications and using it with four different Epson Printers.  I have downloaded
the printer drivers and successfully gotten three out of four printers to work with the various Apple based applications and with Microsoft
Products - but I cannot get anything from CS4 suite to print except on a very basic level of low quality on plain paper.  I cannot get past
the initial print window.  Below please see the only print window i can get in these programs - it doesn't allow me to select paper type,
print quality etc. - in the second photo you will see one of the windows that I need so I can specify glossy, matt, presentation paper etc.
and in the third photo as well.  Anyone know how I get CS4 programs to cooperate with my printers? So I can get the quality and specific
    paper type I need going?

Ouch!  Ouch!  Ouch!   You're doing several things wrong.
    • The first one is that you are letting the printer manage colors.  Very, very bad move.
    • You're printing essentially an 8x10 (approx.) at an unacceptably low, even lousy resolution of 125 ppi.
    • You have a color working space (a device independent color space), sRGB (where the "s" stands for sh¡t), set as your printer profile.  That's just awful.  You should have a device-dependent target profile specific to the particular combination of paper/ink/printer you are using.
You need to start learning about color management and printing here:
    http://www.gballard.net/psd/cmstheory.html
Once you have digested that entire web site, come back here of you still have any questions.
    • Regarding the second screen shot,  DO NOT use a "Preset"  (in your case it's something you labeled "Glossy Ltr Super Photo").  Select "None" there!
    • In that same panel, click and hold where it says "Layout", that will cause the drop down menu to drop, and on it you can select "Printer Settings", which will in turn present you with another drop down menu further down where you can select your media (paper).
