Color difference between LCD monitor and iMac monitor?

So I recently purchased a 27" iMac (purchased it last week) and have hooked up my previous monitor, a 24" Apple LCD cinema display (aluminum enclosure) to have a dual-monitor setup.
Both are using Apple's stock color profiles, but the LCD cinema display is much more yellow than the iMac's display.
I tried setting the LCD display to use the iMac's color profile without any luck (it didn't get rid of the yellow tint).
I assumed Apple would have them using the same color settings, but alas it seems that isn't the case.
So, what should I do to get them to have matching color profiles?

i have the same problem too...with the same imac 27" i7 like josh..hello josh?
the only different is my imac hooked up to 20" LCD cinema display (aluminum enclosure)
yap true josh, its more yellow in the secondary monitor..even with the same color profile.
i mainly use my imac for motion graphic n post production stuffs...its really annoy me for cannot find the match color for this two screens... ;(
hope somebody can show us the solution for this problem...

  • JPEG color difference between Adobe Raw and Microsoft Image Viewer

When I calibrate my monitor or use the monitors ICC file which came with the Monitor, there is a color difference between Camera Raw image and the JPEG I save from Camera Raw, displayed in Microsoft Image Viewer.
However, if I make my ICC file for the system to be SRGB Color Space Profile, and go through the same conversion, the JPEG image created and viewed in Microsoft Image viewer is identical to the one seen in Camera Raw.
It appears therefore, that the operating system only uses SRGB Color Space profile for Microsoft Imaging Viewer?
Most people I give photos to, do in fact look at them in microsoft viewer.
How can I use the ICC profile for my calibrated monitor and end up with the same results in terms of color with Camera Raw and Microsoft image and Fax Viewer.

All profiles are not created equal.  There's a basic version issue (ICC v4 vs. earlier), and profiles are complex things containing many fields.  Lots of things can go wrong in the creation of a proper color transform from the combination of the document and device profiles, and it kind of depends on what color management code the software uses whether it can be done properly.  Adobe has their own - the Adobe Color Engine - and there are others such as LittleCMS or even Microsoft's system-provided ICM that application designers may be using in their code.
It may be that the profile your calibrator/profiler has produced for your monitor (or other device) isn't compatible with every application.  It happens.
This isn't intended to provide a solution or workaround, just to help explain things a bit.

  • Color difference between placed PDF and original PDF

I'm kind of out of my league on color issues.
A client asked for a book to be supplied as a PDF eBook. He wants me to
add back and front covers to the B&W book interior and give him the
whole thing as a PDF. He supplied 6x9 PDFs of the book's front and back
covers. I Placed them at the top and bottom of my 6x9 Indesign file, and
then Exported PDF. Under Output, I set Color Conversion: No Color
Conversion and under Profile Inclusion Policy, I set Don't Include Profiles.
He's telling me that if he prints the original front or back cover PDF
and then prints the front or back cover from the eBook PDF he sees
different colors, he used the words "lighter" and "hazy".
When I open his front cover and the front cover from my PDF in
Photoshop, I can find color differences. For instance, under high
magnification type is consistently RGB 243/203/70 in his cover, but in
mine, type shows as a range of different yellows with a few flecks of
light green thrown in. His PDF is saved directly from Photoshop CS3.
Mine has, obviously, been through Indesign, but I can open it at the
same resolution and color mode in Photoshop.
What should I be doing to preserve his colors exactly?

    Kenneth,
this is hardly an observable difference:
"RGB 243/203/70 in his original,RGB 243/203/71 in mine"
Downsampling should be switched off (instead of placing
by size 100% and using the old ppi value, that's just an
    unnecessary complication).
The text by PhS was probably part of the raster image.
In such a case avoid any JPEG compression (e-book),
because this will change almost all colors just a little
even in large areas. Raster text will be garbled (your
    observation).
"No Color Conversion and under Profile Inclusion Policy
    I set Don't Include Profiles"
This is IMO correct for a reproduction, whatever
ingredients might be in the original page or in the PDF.
The only remaining sources for a color shift - visible
by comparing the two versions under the same test con-
ditions - are downsampling and JPEG compression, IMO.
Note: the question is not whether the two versions are
correct, but whether they are identical.

  • Color settings between the Mini and Dell monitor

I got my new Mac Mini Intel Solo yesterday and hooked it up to my Dell 20" widescreen flat-panel. As soon as my screen popped up, the color scheme was waaaay off. It was too red. So I messed with all different kinds of color settings on the monitor itself and then tried to calibrate the monitor through OS X. Nothing worked and I couldn't get the settings right. Can someone help me? Is there a standard setting that works or is there a site I can go to with a bunch of different color settings I can try? It's really frustrating!!!
Thanks in advance for any help!

What exactly do you mean by "the color scheme was waaaay off"?
The general setup of you display should be…
    1) Display internal setting to default with the Colour Setting set to either PC Standard Preset or Mac Standard Preset (I found the Mac preset somewhat warmer/redder than the PC) and the Brightness set to your liking.
    2) Mac OS X set to use the DELL 2005FPW (or whatever is the default colour profile that matches your model) in the Displays System Preference.
This will work for most people.

  • Color differences between Firefox/Win7 and Firefox/XP, GIMP/Win7, IE/Win7

Firefox in Windows 7 shows colors significantly different from IE in Windows 7 or Firefox in XP (in my virtual machine, using the same display). IE, GIMP, ADOBE Acrobat, Picasa etc all show images exactly the same and exactly as intended. However, Firefox shows (mainly PNG) images generally in a less vibrant color. For example blue becomes greenish blue. How can I resolve this?

This can be caused by a problem with the color profile for your display monitor or color profiles embedded in images.<br />
You can disable color management to test that.<br />
You can set the pref gfx.color_management.mode to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.<br />
You need to close and restart Firefox or maybe even reboot the computer to make the change effective.

  • Question about Hz difference between MacBook Pro and iMac?

Some will think I'm crazy for saying this, but my new MacBook is driving me nuts.
In a nutshell, I have tinnitus as a result of an accident some years ago. I can hear an intermittent high pitch sound coming from the back left of the machine. I used to hear a similar sound from old TVs back when I first got tinnitus. After some deduction I realised that it was to do (I think) with the fequency. I sold my old TV and brought a new one that was a 100Hz. My theory was somewhat confirmed when they delivered it and it was the 50Hz version and yes, the high pitch sound was very evident! Upon receipt of the 100Hz model and I immediately noticed the difference.
I'm guessing then that the MacBook has something inside emitting 50-60Hz - someone on this forum mentioned that too.
Although I want the portability, I can't stand that sound all day long, so I'm thinking of taking it back and swapping it for an iMac.
The question is, will I find the same problem? I'm not sure of the technical specifications in terms of Hz's between the two machines.
It's too noisy in the shop to tell.
    Any advice appreciated.
PS - did not have this issue with my 2008 MacBook pro.
PPS - makes no difference if it's plugged in or not.

Isolating the source of the high frequency would take a technician with the instruments to deteermine what components emit sound...actually very easy to do with the proper test instruments, but essential to tell you what is causing the offending sound.  Unless you know that it will be very hard to determine if the iMac will not do the same thing.
Only qualitative way to find out is go to an Apple store or reseller with a good selection of hardware, work with the different hardware and see if it bothers you.  Preferably with few people around and low background noise level so the sound isn't masked.

  • Color differences between lr image and ps image?

Is it possible that lightroom and photoshop could display an image (the same image) differently between lightroom and photoshop cs2? I modified a number of images in lightroom (controllers are better than photoshop) but when I edit the lr version of the file in photoshop, the colors seem to be completely different than what I saw in photoshop. How is this possible? Any ideas?

If you have colour management set to ignore the embedded profile, you will see this.
Photoshop needs to honour the embedded profile. Until V1 is released, you have a 16 bit ProPhoto RGB file being created by Edit in Photoshop. If you are using an Adobe RGB or sRGB working space then the file will look odd if the profile is ignored.

  • Color differences between Import preview and image in Library

    Hi folks,
when I try to import photos from my D200, theys show up in the bnright colors they should during the import dialog. But once they have been imported into the Library, they are all pale - no matter if it's NEF or DNG. I do not apply Auto-Tone during import. I shoot in sRGB.
I have no idea how to fix this, has anyone an idea what could be the cause? Help would be very much appreciated.

you will most likely hit a warning, either Use Embedded Profile, or Assign Profile (sRGB first guess)
most likely your document is untagged or you have Photoshop set up to ignore imbedded profiles...

  • In OSX Activity Monitor, what's the difference between 'free' memory and 'inactive' memory

In OS X Activity Monitor, what's the difference between 'free' memory and 'inactive' memory. My daughters 2Gb MacBook Pro is very slow, it probably needs more memory but there is almost 1Gb of 'inactive' memory but no 'free' memory when an application is opened.
    Thanks

Free RAM is the one that has not been used by any application since you started up your Mac, and inactive RAM is the one that was used by an application and it is not in use anymore.
1 GB of inactive RAM is a lot, and it may be the cause of the slowness. There are a lot of apps that allows you to turn inactive into free RAM. I use FreeMemory, but have a look at the Mac App Store.
If you are a developer, you can do that with a command you can type into Terminal:
    sudo purge

  • Difference between Integration Process and Monitoring Process

    Hi Experts,
What is the difference between Integration Process and Monitoring Process available in PI7.1?
SAP says that Monitoring process is a special kind of integration process that receives the event messages.
My doubt is even integration process can receive the event messages.
Why these two different type of entities are created for the same purpose?
And what is the technical difference between the two in terms of PI perspective?
    Regards,
    Sami.

    My question is now answered.
On page 17 of this pdf following sentence is mentioned :-
From technical perspective, there is no difference between monitoring process and integration process.
Though logically those are two deifferent things.
Monitoring porcesses are used to receive only event messages that is comprises of event data only.
Like Purchase order creation is a event and its event message will have the event data like Order Id, Created on, Created by, Quantity etc., instead of whole purchase order.
Where as Integration Process is a way to provide solution in some specific circummtances like where we have to automate our process or where we need something in between for the course of communication.
Guys thanks for your precious time.

  • Difference between 21.5" and 27" iMac (GHz)

I'm looking to buy a new iMac for performance-intensive work on applications like Final Cut and After Effects.
Is there a noticeable difference between the 21.5" iMac (2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7) and the 27" iMac (3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7)?
And by that I mean is the $500 or so price difference going to be readily apparent in how fast the the computer is?
Additionally, each computer would have 16GB of RAM, and I suppose I'd get the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5 for the 27" vs. the AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB GDDR5 for the 21.5" if that would make a difference.
    Thanks!

    Hello Sam.
The 27" is worth the $500 for the screen real estate alone in my opinion.  I just replaced a 3 year old MacPro at work with the 27" i5, iMac for my graphic designer who uses Final Cut Studio as well as several Adobe products to produce HD video.  The iMac has 16 GB RAM, 1TB HD, 1GB video RAM and far out performs the MacPro that has 20GB RAM.  My designer went from a 20" Apple Cinema monitor on the MacPro to the 27" iMac and absolutely loves it.  He tells me that the rendering speed is much faster than the MacPro.  I'll assume you will get similar performance with the 21.5", but we made the decision to pay for that 27" display and do not regret it at all.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Color Discrepency between Develop image and Print Preview

Is there any way to alter the color image in the Develop module so that it matches the color of the image in the print preview screen? The colors in the final printed image match those of the ones displayed in the print preview screen and are nothing like the colors I am adjusting in the Develop module. Thanks for the input.

The web preview on windows machines should not match anything indeed. Internet explorer is not color managed at all (shame on you MS). If the web preview matches your print, but the develop screen doesn't it means that you have miscalibrated your screen. Your screen is probably very close to sRGB as many are and you could probably get away with just using sRGB as the screen profile (not recommended for real color management BTW). Anyways, we have seen gobs and gobs of windows color management issues come by here that turned out to be corrupt monitor profiles. As a test, try clearing the profile that you have selected in the monitor's properties dialog (and thereby selecting the default sRGB) and restarting LR. If you still see a difference between the different modules, the monitor profile was corrupt and you should recalibrate.
