Color distortion with transparency setting

I used RGB for all color settings.
In this illustrator-made pdf file(ill.pdf), I used transparency (the light gray). I use illustrator CS (v11) and saved pdf as pdf1.4. It looks okey when opened in adobe acrobat. I used word 2003 to convert some text and saved as pdf too (pdf 1.4, wordfile.pdf).
•When I use this page to replace the word-converted page, the color got distorted ( I am using bright blue, red etc here, as you can see).
The funny thing is, if I just insert the ill.pdf, the word.pdf takes it as the right color, only if I use ill.pdf to replace word.pdf page, the color got distorted.
Would anyone be kind enough to help me out?
Thanks very much

Wow, that sounds really simple.
I did suspect it was CMKY, but all files were specified to be RGB when I did the conversion.
So where did you see the CMKY ? Is that in the single ill.pdf? Or you replace the wordfile.pdf page, and saved it and then looked at it in illustrator?
And forgive me, where did you change it back to RGB?
I know wordfile is empty. My real file is of course, multiple pages with a lot of text.
I just opened the final version of replacement (or what you might have done). When I opened it in pdf, the color is distorted. When I opened it in illustrator, the color is right, and the color setting is RGB.
So I still can't figure it out.
Thanks a lot.

  • Color Distortion with Mac Lion, CS6, Epson R2880 printer

    When I had Snow Leopard, CS4 and Epson R2280, I got prints that looked like what was on the monitor.
    When I bought a new Mac which switched my operating system to Lion, and Adobe recommended  I buy CS5 which I did.  When I went to print, trying every setting imaginable, the color was too dark, distorted and lifeless.  I called support on January 23, 2012 and they have not solved the problem YET.
    I was very excited to try CS6.  I selected use CS4 profiles.
    I printed a PSD file using Printer controls setting, color matching, epson.  The results are marginally better.  The pictures do not come out as dark but yellows turn green and greens turn blue.  Blues are sligtly darker and reds are off- mostly darker.  I got the same results letting photoshop control the colors.  This lack or responsiveness to changes in commands is the same thing I encountered with CS5.  I also tried printing an unadjusted raw file and the color did not change.
    I know how to use the Epson R2880 so I chose the correct media and ink.
    When I print from Apples preview or iPhoto, the color is perfect.
    Given that Epson is a high quality photoprinter, Adobe should make it their business to be sure their product works with Epson.

    I too have a MacBook with Lion and an Epson R2880..I'm in the process of evaluating CS6 on the
    MAC platform after using PS and Premier Pro on Windows boxes since 1995; so far I'm
    very impressed with how CS6 runs under LION given the somewhat strained
    relationship between Apple & Adobe..but I digress..my first attempt at a print
    with Luster produced very distorted imagery compared to that of my Thunderbolt
    display (which I love BTW)..I recognize the distortion almost certainly
    that caused by either 1)an improperly selected printer driver in the dialoges or
    2)bad or clogged ink jets or 3)a printer driver not updated for my new hardware/software
    combo..in this case LION with CS6 (beta s/w)...now in my case its not #2 as I just
    printed the same tiff file with CS5 on my Windows machine perfectly; its also not #1 cause
    I checked & rechecked the matte settings...I suspect #3 is the culprit..I'll do some
    more troubleshooting with this and report back..
    Oh, BTW, soft proofing on my MAC TB display revelaed not distortions so even
    tho I have done no monitor calibrations on this display I have no reason to
    suspect thatas the culprit..

  • Image with transparent background changes surrounding fill color when PMS...

    Hello.
    I have a .PSD image I'm using in InDesign CS3. It's a greyscale image with a transparent background. When I bring it into InDesign and set the background color of the image box to a Pantone and then print it, the PMS color within the area of the .PSD image size changes color compared to the rest of the page. But, when the same document is printed, but with "All Spot to Process" via the Ink Manager, the page prints fine. I get the same results on a number of different Canon and Xerox proofing printers. I have uploaded a PDF to my web server showing an example of the results I'm getting the PDF can be found here:
    http://theboyk.net/temp/PMSvsCMYK.pdf
    The first page is the document printed normally. You can see the color change in the green (Pantone Green). The second page is the same document printed with "All Spot to Process" via Ink Manager.
    Does anyone know why this happens when I leave it as printing a spot color?
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    I totally forgot to put that in my post.  Yes, I am putting logos with transparent backgrounds in front of colored rectangles.  That's how I noticed that this one logo is showing up with a white background.  The weird thing is that the other two logos are fine.  I did find a different version of this logo and this one works fine.  The one that works fine is a JPG and the one that shows up with a white background is a JPG.

  • Problem with PDF 1.3-Export: Photoshop-Files with transparency over InDesign colored objects

    Hello!
    I'm using InDesign CS6.
    I'v finished now a layout for a folder, and I put a photoshop-image with transparency over a InDesign-rectangle which I have filled with a cmyk-color in yellow.
    When I export a PDF with the Settings "PDF X-3:2002" (with PDF-Standard 1.3) the Photoshop-image shows uggley jagged edges at the border to the InDesign-colored background. However, the Photoshop-images which are over another bitmap-image (as background), this images don't show this annoying edges.
    When I export to PDF-Standard 1.4 the problem doesn't occor, however my printing-service requests PDF 1.3.
    I know, the workaround for this problem is, to replace the yellow background-color with an bitmap-file with the same color, but is there any other option to get a correct result without this more time-consuming image trick?
    I think it has to do with the transparency reduction which is necessary if using PDF 1.3. When I examine the PDF-File in Illustrator, this edges occurs mostly at the borders from the tiles in which the image is cut during the transparency reduction process. Although, if I open the rendered PDF in Photoshop this jagged edeges are visible, so it is definitly a render error.
    I would be glad if someone of you has a solution for this problem, in the attachment is an image which illustrate the problem.
    Best wishes

    End of problem. It really saddens me to think that these Luddites are
    still in business making no effort to move into the 21st century.

  • How to deal with transparency, variable background color and unsightly edges?

    I am a software developer, only know the Photoshop basics.
    A graphic professional designed for me an icon with transparent background. On some backgrounds it looks fine, but on other backgrounds the edges look bad. I read an Internet article that the problem is that the pixels should merge smoothly into the background. I understand how that workd provided that the background is a known constant (in math terms). My program may run on different versions of Windows, with different window styles (Classic Look, XP Look) and hence the backgrounds are variable.
    How can an icon be designed so it blends smoothly into a background whose color is not known at design time?
    TIA,
    -Ramon

    What version of Windows? If you are just using Vista and W7, you can use 24bit PNGs with proper Alpha channels as your icon resource. I think they prefer straight Alpha, but you may laso be able to use black or medium grey on the RGB channels hen it's premultiplied. (there's a guide somewhere on MS' developers' pages). For XP you are of course stuck with palette-based BMPs/ ICOs, which is no different than when creating GIFs or 8bit PNGs in PS. Generally, though, you may wish to work with a dedicated editor like Axialis Icon Workshop, especially when needing to create multiple versions of an icon. The rest is out of your hands. Some icons will always look frizzled, if the user applies an all too wild color scheme. It's just how it is....

  • Transparency Color Distortion When Printing

    I have designed something in InDesign and included in the template is a transparency that I created in Photoshop. It looks fine on the screen, but when I print the area that is transparent has color distortion. I have a host-based laser printer. Is there anything I can do to correct this using my current setup? Is this where I would somehow make use of the transparency flattener presets? If so, how exactly does that work?

    Without seeing the distortion I'm only guessing, but it sounds like it may be YDB. See InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Eliminating YDB (Yucky Discolored Box) Syndrome

  • Monotone color with transparent background

    Is there a way to maintain the transparent background when saving a monotone photo? I need to do a 2-Pantone color job and want the images cut out from the background. Monotone won't allow me to save as a TIFF with transparency.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks! That helped me too!

  • Replace color with transparency?

    Hello,
    Using the Replace Color Tool, I can't find transparancy as the new color. Am I doing something wrong? If not, would there be another way to replace a color with transparancy in Fireworks? I have Fireworks 8 (and I love it).
    Thanks,
    Frank

    Great question. I have to admit, I've never used the Replace Color Tool—I didn't even know it was there.
    Initially, I thought you might have been referring to the Find panel, which is useful for replacing colors with vector objects. It, too, lacks support for transparency. There is a trick you can do to force the transparent (or "None") swatch to appear: In the hex code input of the Color Picker, add a "0" to the end of the 6-digit hex code. The problem is, this won't actually work to replace the color with transparency; once you try to apply it, the color reverts to its previous value.
    If you're working with bitmaps, your best bet might be to use a bitmap selection tool or command, and then once the color is selected, just use the Delete key to remove it. If working with vector objects, remember that you can always select multiple objects and then use the Properties inspector to adjust the fill or stroke color of all the selected objects at once. Also, using Symbols can allow you to edit just a single object and have it affect multiple instances.

  • How to replace a specific color with transparent color?

    I would need to get image of a control but I'd like to replace the background color of the control with transparent color (like the commentest image editor).
    I cannot use IMAQ library, so I would like to use 2D-picture palette.
    I can read the image data pixel per pixer, but.. once the color to be replaced is found, how to replace it with transparent?
    Thanks all

    It sounds like you want the "Create Mask.vi". If not, you might want to provide some code that shows what kind of situation you're dealing with.

  • How do you replace a color with transparency in Elements 12?

    I've gotten this far but is there any way to make it so that I just have the black drawing with the white background transparent? I am going to put the drawing over another image so obviously I need to get rid of the white!

    In your case, replacing with transparency is the same as deleting : if you are in a normal layer (not background), select white with the  magic wand and delete. Alternatively, inverse selection of white and paste on a new layer : shortcut Ctrl J.

  • How to save an icon as a bitmap file in illustrator with transparency?

    Hello I need help,
    I don't normally work with bitmap files however I find myself in need to save out a set of icons in this particular format for a client to use with their own software on a pc. this software can only import/use .bmp files.
    In my export options .bmp is an option but I am unable to save it out with a transparent background which is a big issue. The result is an icon with white background and I need it to be transparent.
    I tried pasting these icons to photoshop but I only is a portable bitmap format in the "save as" menu which I don't think will work as it creates a .PMP file and I don't think it will work with client's software. I am on a mac, with illustrator CC as well as photoshop.
    I would very much appreciate help with this, I have been trying to figure this out for 2 hours now. Thank you in advance.

    When I have created bitmap icons in the past (used to work for a software company) I used to create them with either a icon creator tool (Axialis) or directly in photoshop.
    For color depths 24 BPP or less, the transparency is coded by using a fixed color. Each pixel that have this exact color will be converted as transparent when the image is loaded in the toolbar. Usually, the color used is green RGB(0,255,0) or magenta RGB(255,0,255). The problem of this method is that if you use a pixel of that color in your icon image (not the background), it will be converted as transparent. The other issue is the poor quality of the borders (around the icons) because it does not permit smooth transparency. In other words, a pixel is either 100% transparent or 100% opaque, there is no variable transparency. It results in "aliasing" on borders for icons with rounded shapes.
    This is an old technique so you will struggle to get the desired results but worth you having a look for "creating bmp icons with transparency" online.

  • Screen is grainy and colors distorted.

    Hi everyone,
    Currently, my Macbook Pro (early 2011) is experiencing graphic display issues. My screen's is grainy and somewhat pixelated, which makes the color distorted. I resolved this problem once after closing and opening my lid (sleeping and turning it back on), but now that does not help anymore. I also noticed that, in the past, when I restarted or shut-down my computer, it would have random color distortions on the blue screen as well. When I try to take a screenshot of this problem and open the picture on another computer, the picture appears fine, so i'm assuming its an issue with my screen.Also, when I turn on "Automatic graphics switching," my System Profiler information still indicates that my AMD RAdeon HD 6750 is running.
    How can I fix this problem? Thank you!

    System Preferences/Display/Display
    Check the Colors & Brightness settings.
    My Color setting is set to Millions which I believe is the default setting.
    Now click on the Color button.
    Check Display Profile
    Is Show profiles for this display only enabled or disabled?
    If necessary click on the Calibrate button & do the necessary.
    Now in the bottom right corner, click on the purple button w/the black *?* mark in the middle.  This will bring up the help window.
    Midway down, click on the Colorsync Utility link.
    The next window should be Profile First Aid.
    Read & follow the instructions/details of About Profile First Aid: & do the necessary to Verify & Repair.

  • Saving as .gif with transparency

    I have a .png file with a transparent background which I have been trying to export as a .gif with transparency in FW8. I've managed to save it as a .gif but the edges are dreadfully ragged. I seem to have tried all the options. Any ideas please?

    Select a matte color that matches the background color of the page you will be using the image on. Set the transparency type to Index.

  • Problem with Transparency using PixelGrabbar.

    Well, im having a problem.
    Im creating a basic 2d game and using images, since im using alot of images and they are being drawn alot i use a class i call "GameSprite", basically it retrieves the file needed and then keeps it in a pixel array, but transparency dosn't seem to work with it. The reason im using this is because say i have 100 images to draw, it dosn't need to keep using the drawImage method because it draws all at once using a set drawing area on which the pixel arrays are possitioned, for example this is the drawing;
    public void drawGraphics(int xOffset, Graphics g, int yOffset)
            setImageConsumer();
            g.drawImage(drawingAreaImage, xOffset, yOffset, this);
    .private synchronized void setImageConsumer()
            if(imageConsumer != null)
                imageConsumer.setPixels(0, 0, drawingAreaHeight, drawingAreaWidth, colorModel, drawingAreaSize, 0, drawingAreaHeight);
                imageConsumer.imageComplete(2);
        }Here is the basic's of what it does, note i used URL just for a test if you wanted to test (image still is uploaded there);
    Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(new URL("http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u116/the_owner2007/testtrans.png"));
              image = setTransparency(image, new Color(255, 89, 255));
              ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon(image);
              imageWidth = icon.getIconWidth();
              imageHeight = icon.getIconHeight();
              imagePixels = new int[imageWidth * imageHeight];
              PixelGrabber pixelgrabber = new PixelGrabber(image, 0, 0, imageWidth, imageHeight, imagePixels, 0, imageWidth);
                 pixelgrabber.grabPixels();If i use for example a JLabel and set an ImageIcon as the image the transparency works, otherwise i can't figure it out.
    Here is the setTransparency method;
    public static Image setTransparency(Image im, Color color) {
            //the color to make transparent
            final int markerRGB = color.getRGB() & 0x00FFFFFF;
            ImageFilter filter = new RGBImageFilter() {
                public int filterRGB(int x, int y, int rgb) {
                    if ((rgb & 0x00FFFFFF) == markerRGB) {
                        return markerRGB;
                    } else {
                        return rgb;
            ImageProducer ip = new FilteredImageSource(im.getSource(), filter);
            return java.awt.Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(ip);
    If you can think of an alternative solution which would work better and possibly more efficiant please feel free to post that.
    Thanks.

    drawingAreaImage = component.createImage(this);Note that images created through this method are often times immutable. They will not respond to changes in the underlying ImageProducer. So "drawingAreaImage" is essentially a snapshot of whatever pixels "this" gave it.
    An exception to this rule is if you use MemoryImageSource and set the animated flag,
    int[] pixels = ....
    MemoryImageSource imageProducer = ....
    imageProducer.setAnimated(true);
    drawingAreaImage = component.createImage(imageProducer);This time, whenever pixels is modified you can call imageProducer.newPixels() and the image will be updated.
    On a side note, you are using a very old method of dealing with images (over a decade old since java 1.0 and 1.1). Are you doing this for compatability purposes? I would recommend you drop the ImageProducer/Consumer model entirely and stick with BufferedImages (which as been around since 1.2 and was the "upgrade" from the ImageProducer/Consumer model).

  • Image with transparent background als foreground of a button

    I'd like to build an app with buttons using the phone's accent Color as Background and an Image with transparent Background as foreground of the button. It should look like the tiles on the start screen of WP8.1.
    The following code doesn't work (no foreground appears)
    <Button x:Name="myButton" Background="{ThemeResource PhoneAccentBrush}">
     <Button.Foreground>
         <ImageBrush ImageSource="/Assets/myImage.png"/>
     <Button.Foreground>
    </Button>
    Are there any ideas?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi mfv_technet,
    The Foreground property is used to get or set a brush that describes the foreground color. So we can not bind the Foreground to a image,
    if I do not misunderstand you, in my mind if we want to set the button look like the tiles on the start screen of WP8.1, maybe you can try to refer to the following xaml:
    <Button x:Name="myButton" Foreground="Red" Background="{ThemeResource PhoneAccentBrush}" Margin="116,136,0,363" Width="195" Height="141">
    <Button.Content>
    <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical">
    <Image Source="/Assets/myImage.png" Width="80" Height="80"></Image>
    <TextBlock Text="Button"></TextBlock>
    </StackPanel>
    </Button.Content>
    </Button>
    The result:
    If I have misunderstood you, please feel free to let me know.
