Color fades when scrolling in Safari 4

Since upgrading yesterday from Safari 4 beta to Safari 4 proper (and from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7), a strange things happen: when I scroll up or down in Safari, the color fades. It returns if I stop and click outside the app (i.e. on the desktop background), then recurs if I again scroll in Safari. Didn't happen before the upgrade, and it's quite annoying. Any suggestions?

What are the exact steps you took to fix the problem? I've run Repair Permissions twice now, restarted Safari, and still having the issue:

The above example occurs when I scroll down any page. The content of the page becomes very, very dark and completely unreadable.

As for Safari, is it opening and working if you open it before Mail and what if any Extensions are you using?
OK ... so I just restarted and opened Safari first ... no spinning ball. And I opened mail after hitting the rebuild, well, I'm missing messages from Dec. 24 - now, but it opened right away. Most messages are FB feeds, so it's not like I've lost anything important. So, initial thoughts ... John was a tremendous help, BUT, we shall see what happens when I try to open mail again ... and I'll try it first with the next restart or wake up ... so appreiciate the walk-thru on all of this!

  • Page Gradient Color fades when adding text.

    Hi,
I've made several pages for my iWeb created site. Each page has a unique gradient color applied to it using the standard: Page inspector>Layout>Page Background>Gradient Fill commands. I've added a movie to this page and it all looks great. However, the moment I add a text box, the gradient color is drained of its saturation. A gold color turns to a pale yellow. A dark grey gradient turns to a light grey etc. When I publish the site, this desaturation is translated to the actual site online. Any Ideas? I've not done anything unique to the text. I just add a text box, type a word, drag into position and bam, just like that, the gradient color fades. Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Chris

    Chris:
Just ran a test and adding a text box didn't cause the gradient fill to lose saturation. Try the following:
1 - close iWeb and delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - reboot (clears the iWeb caches).
3 - launch iWeb, redo the page and try again.
I only published the page to a folder on the HD and not to the server but don't think that would produce any different results.

  • MacBook Display - Text Glows or Fades When Scrolling with Two Fingers

I am currently using an early 2008 MacBook Black, OS X 10.5.5, 2.4GHz Penryn, 4GB RAM (CAS 4), 250 GB HDD. I recently came into an Apple Store for a Genius Bar appointment because of a problem with the screen. When I use two finger scrolling and view text on a white background, the text appears to glow (especially blue text) or fade (black fades to an almost imperceptible gray. This behavior appears in Apple's Safari, Pages, Numbers; as well as, Safari. I have not tested beyond this yet.
The Genius at the store had no answer for this behavior and the other early 2008 MacBooks in the Apple Store (Walden Galleria, Buffalo, NY 14225) also exhibit this behavior. The Genius admitted this was annoying when viewing text and it appears to be a driver or OS problem because this behavior is also exhibited on the late 2008 MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
    Suggestions?

It's a characteristic of LCD response time. There is nothing to be done about it except maybe experiment with different colors of text or backgrounds. That's not always practical, I know. Basically, we all have to live with it.

  • "Wobbly" page when scrolling in safari with iPad 3

I've noticed a very strange "issue" with the scrolling on my iPad 3, It looks a little "wobbly" with quick up and down scrolling on a web page. It's like the left side is slightly lagging behind the right.
Anyone else have this "issue"? I haven't heard anything about this.

I noticed it on an iPad at the Apple Store.  I was scrolling through photos horizontally in landscape mode when I noticed the vertical edges of the photos became slightly tilted.  It is as if the top of the photo could not catch up with the bottom.  In Portrait mode, when swiping through app pages, icons seemed to stretch in when moving in one direction, and compress in the other.
I did not try another iPad and therefore cannot say if it is a common issue.  iPad 2 does not have this issue.
My sister could see it (barely) after I told her.  My niece couldn't.  Therfore It is possible that some people are more sensitive to this phenomenon than others, just like some people can see the "rainbow effect" on DLP projectors whereas others cannot.
I'll check it out on another ipad when I have a chance to go to the Apple Store again.

  • Adobe Reader 9 highlights text when scrolling in terminal server

Running a terminal server with WIndow 2003.  Have Adobe 9 Reader installed.  When a pdf is opened, it will look correct.  However, when one uses the scroll bar on the right to see more of the document, text can be highlighted and change colors constantly when scrolling.
Test it outside of terminal server and it works fine.  This issue did not happen with other versions of Reader.  I have attached two samples one clean and one highlighted.
    Any help is appreciated

Very cool. Thanks for the info!

Okay. Here is what I found. These settings are changed\saved under the User settings in the registry. Here is the key the changes are made to:
    HKCU\Software\Adobe\Adobe Reader\9.0\Originals
When "NONE" is selected from Adobe Reader - Edit - Preferences - Page Display - Rendering, three DWORD values are added to the above mentioned registry key. These are:
    Value Name - Value Data
    *bAntialiasText - 0
    benableDDR - 0
    iAntialiasThreshold - 12*
I have added these lines to a login script that adds the necessary DWORD values to default the "Rendering" to NONE.
    *reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V bAntialiasText /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V benableDDR /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals" /V iAntialiasThreshold /T REG_DWORD /F /D 12*
    Cheers!

  • MBP Retina sound when scrolling???

    Hey guys,
Just wondering is it ok? when scrolling in safari up and down you can hear a low noise of digital sound tzz tzz tzz only when scrolling!
you must put your head to the keyboard to hear it =)))
    OSX Lion 10.7.4
    thanks

Yeah, I have the similar problem, especially when I connect my computer with the charger. I can tell obviously there's some sound by the power button area. But I could not hear that when it's not charging.
I just bought the computer 2 days ago. I'm not sure they gonna fix this after next system upgrade.
Tryptomine, do you still have that problem? Have you got any chance to go to AppleStore to talk with them about this issue?

  • Why does it lag so much when I scroll in Safari? (OS X Lion)

I've noticed that ever since the OS X Lion update, webpages in general are pretty laggy when scrolling.  I let the page completely load and when I scrollthere is stuttering and lag.  It is made most apparent when I use momentum to scroll a long webpage.
It seems to happen mostly with more complex pages (which makes sense I guess).  For example, some parts of NYTimes.com doesn't have much lag when scrolling.  But most websites (like mine: http://wistfulwriter.com) are pretty laggy.  I know I use a background image and use special fonts, but I never had this problem before the Lion update.  Many other sites lag too: CNN.com, WashingtonPost.com, etc.  It seems like any time there is an image, there is stuttering.
I have tried setting the zoom level to default (command-0) just in case, and I have exited unnecessary applications and everything.  The lag is still there, regardless if I use fullscreen mode or not (though on some sites it is not as noticable in windowed mode).
    Any clues?  Thanks!

Clay G wrote this on another thread so I'll give you his suggestions and it WORKED FOR ME!
Go to FINDER-LIBRARY-PREFERENCES- and delete the folder com.apple.safari.rss.plist
Go to FINDER-LIBRARY-CACHES- and delete the folder com.apple.safari
    Restart your Mac.
I too was experiencing some severe lagging in some web sites-using Safari.
Also heard that Adobe (v 10.1) can cause lagging problems. V. 10.0 is more stable.
Did what Clay offered and NO MORE LAGGING.
BTW, you'll have to do a search(SPOTLIGHT) for SAFARI but it pops right up and you still have all your bookmarks and favorites.
    Hope this helped.

  • Ripple effect in Safari browser when scrolling pages

When scrolling through a web page in safari using my new iMac Core Duo 17" there is a "ripple" effect in the middle of the page I'm scrolling through. This happens when I use the mouse to drag the scroll bar on Safari. Happens no matter what web page I'm on. This didn't happen on my iMac G5.
    Any else have this problem?

The threads I saw on this are locked... I had no problems with anything UNTIL the 10.4.5. update - now I have the Safari "ripple effect" on almost every web page. I have to select / highlight the "rippled" portion of the page in order to view it properly...Wonder why this happened to my machine after the update? The update seems to have fixed this problem for others...

  • Safari stalls when scrolling or zoom

My iPhone 6 using iOS 8.1 has a problem with Safari.  When scrolling up or down the page freezes for a while, or when zooming again it freezes for a time.  If you keep the page moving up & down its fine.  Took phone back to Apple store where they found Cameralert & Waze had crashed a few times & reinstalled the operating system.  This improved it for a few days.
Returned the next week & phone was replaced but still have same problem.  Google Chrome works so much better & I would use it more but when clicking on a link Safari always opens.

What "Network Optimizer" did you try?
Please look over this list, and go through them all, OK?
    Then tell us how you're doing . . .
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    Any improvement?
    2. Quit Safati.Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    Restart Safari. Is it better?
    3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it. Restart Safari & Test.
    If you're still having problems:
    4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router. After the lights settle in, then restart your computer.
    5. Do you have internet apps SpeedDownload, iGetter, PithHelmet, Acid Search, Safari Enhancer ? Or Norton or Virex? Sometimes non-apple internet apps need updating or uninstalling. If you do, let us know which ones and which version, please.
    6. Check your Syster Preferences>Network>Automatic>Built-in Ethernet Settings. Have you chosen "Using DHCP?" And under the Tab "Proxies" is anything checked off? If so, uncheck all.
    Hope this helps

  • I have MacBook Pro bought 2011. After downloading update for Canon digital camera, computer screen is flickering (like curtain moving in breeze) when scrolling on all websites (slightly less with Safari )

I downloaded from Canon website an update to my Canon 750 IXUS digital camera. It downloaded various software products onto my computer which are outlined in the computer's database of software applications. From that time, this flickering effect occurs when scrolling through all pages using Firefox and to a lesser extent on Safari. It is like the effect of someone blinking rapidly and constantly and looking at the screen. When not scrolling there is no such effect. It is very disruptive when trying to read a page.

  • TS3230 When scrolling down a web page, Safari resets to the top of the page and will not stay where I stopped the scroll..

When two finger scrolling in Safari, it resets itself to the top of the web page - not where I stopped.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.
