  • Color fidelity and the New MacBook Pro glossy display like iMac

I'm very concerned about the new MacBook Pro display which is glossy like the iMac. Can Apple guarantee precise Color fidelity and correct calibration for Pro users? Aren't glossy glass screens more saturated, deeper Blacks and higher contrasted. Aan Apple answer to this very important question that will draw or throw thousands of Professionals off the new Pro laptop.

Sorry, your comments only confirm the post above. Below is a copy of a comment from Charles Higgins posted to Maintouch. I copied it for posting here (I hope that is legal).
    Charles Higgins
To those who must work in bright, unshaded sunlight, Hoodman makes a pretty good reflection/glare 'hood' (sic) that does its job, except it's godawful ugly and bulky.
To everyone else (designers, photogs, and image editors), who must often work in less than ideal outdoor and indoor environments with their MBP's (including the dreaded airline seat), I feel your pain. I do ALL of these jobs, professionally, am an Adobe Beta Tester, have a Cisco CCNE and independently consult for folks like The University of Massachusetts (all campuses), Smith College, Middlebury College, to name a few, on everything from spec'ing Video, Graphics, and Photography labs to deployment, training, etc...
However - the MBP's screen, reflective though it may be, is my favorite laptop screen so far, and I've tried all brands for a long time. I've owned and professionally used, daily, Mac laptops/notebooks since Wall Street.
If it's a deal-breaker to have a glossy screen, you need to re-examine your techniques for use- how you work, where you work, light sources, etc.- because it's a really good indicator of how accurately you perceive color, brightness and tonality accurately... in other words, under conditions that I get unacceptable glare and reflections on my new MBP's glossy screen (CTO 2.8, 320GB 7200 RPM, new 24" on order, DP to DVI adapter out to 30" Cinema Display in home office), I would be getting unacceptable 'light pollution' onto my matte 30" Cinema Display, or any number of CRT monitors I used professionally in days past (Sony Artisans, Barco, etc.), and that's a good barometer, to me, of whether I have a 'pure' viewing environment for critical color work. Just because one can eke out a good or acceptable image view on a matte LCD MBP screen, doesn't mean you should do color critical, submit billing to client work in that already compromised situation. The matte screen often delivers a 'false sense of security' to those folks who work professionally in graphics, video and image editing. I find, or create, an environment that I can work well in with regard to screen viewing, and that's where, matte LCD screen or Glossy, I can get the best results. If I cannot get that environment, I curse my lack of resourcefulness and do work that isn't color-critical, just as I would with any matte screen Mac notebook LCD. In my long experience, and comparing them to even midlevel CRT monitor screens (Mitsu Diamond Pro 22", etc.) is absolutely no contest. Matte screens have an unacceptably low contrast and brightness, and a more primitive rendering of fine tonal gradations and shadows to blacks. My 30" Cinema Display has some of these same shortcomings, of course - but to a far lesser degree. Still, those shortcomings are there, and for the same reasons. The new, DP equipped 24" Cinema Display is a piece of pro equipment that I look forward to immediately calibrating and putting to work immediately!
The clients I've converted to MBP glossy screens because of the shortcomings of any laptop matte screen BTW, my new MBP has a noticeably better screen than the glossy one on my early 2008 MBP (LED backlit); I calibrated both with Gretag MacBeth calibration hardware. I have been able to hardware calibrate the newer MBP to a tighter tolerance.
Got glare? That's a symptom you're gonna probably get less than accurate results from any screen. Having used matte LCD screens in Mac notebooks for many years, I'll take the new LED backlit glossy MBP screens over anything available so far.

  • I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother Printer

I am unable to print color photos from i photo using a Brother MFC-6490CW all in one.  The photos appear to be in grayscale.  I have checked the printer settings, but for some reason I am not able to access the color management on my printer from printer set up.  It only gives me the standard option.  I have spent hours checking Bother's website and Apple's and I am not able to come up with a valid answer.  I know that the color print works.  If I print something from the internet of from outlook it will print in color.  I know all of my cartridges are in working order, I have cleaned the print head on my Brother, but I am still not able to print photos in color!!!
What puzzles me the most is why I am unable to really access the color management menu on my printer?  It just does not come up.  I have the option from paper handling to print photos, but this has nothing to do with the quality.  I have also tried printing the photo from an Adobe PDF file and I still have the same problem.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thank you.

In the Print dialogue box click on the little triangle to the right of the name of the printer. That will expand the dialogue box.

  • Color variations from Adobe Illustrator CS5 to Acrobat 9 (PDF)

I'm a new designer who is trying to solve issues of color variations when I create a PDF file from Illustrator CS5. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to ensure that the colors match from application to application? Do I need to select certain settings for RGB, CYMK, or other color libraries (i.e., Pantone)? Thanks for the help!

If you are creating your PDF using Save As > PDF or Print > PDF; your selections in Illustrator's Color Settings should go with the file.  However, it could also be the settings you choose when you create the PDF.  I use Distiller where I can use the same settings from Illustrator and have them embedded in the PDF when distilled.  The key being that settings match when you create the PDF.

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

  • Getting accurate color prints from mini and Dell  2405?

Although I'm reading many great reviews about this setup and display, I've also found quite a few folks on various forums that are having a very hard time getting their prints to come out looking like anything close to the highly rated on-screen image.
I would like to know if anyone has has figured out how to do this as I often have clients OK the image before I print it. Several people have said that their clients bave been disappointed with the print after seeing the image on-screen with this display more than others.

I use the Dell 2405 on my PC to print photos, and the colors match closely. I just used Adobe Gamma in the Control Panel that comes with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to tweak the output settings, and I left the LCD at its default sRGB setting, which I think Dell has already calibrated, which you can tell if you start up the LCD in diagnostic mode and look at the diagnostic menu.
OSX has a better color calibration utility, so I think with DVI and the 2405, there shouldn't be much of an issue. If anything, the Dell is calibrated to gamma 2.2 which is Windows' default, but with the color calibration utility in OSX you can change the gamma to 2.2 or leave it as OSX's default 1.8. Also, from my limited dabbling in printing color photos from my digicams, there are other factors involved too, such as your printer, paper, camera settings, and software (like Photoshop) settings.

  • How can I extract and save a color profile from an existing file?

I've been give a tiff file with an embedded color profile from a customer. I want to be able to save that color profile for future use. I've tried various methods with no success.

I've tried various methods with no success.
And those were...? You need to be specific. Generally though one would simply install the profile file rather than jump hoops to extract it from an image, where it may be incomplete or lack other critical info like other profiles or specific printer or monitor information it may reference.

  • Remove color profile from an image

How to remove color profile from an image is it possible through any script?
Manual Try - Don't Color Manage this Document: option is used to instruct Photoshop to remove an existing embedded profile but when I save the file, close and open it I still see a color profile in the embedded image.

On the mac you could have sips do this (it may depend on the file type). You would loose the files creator if Photoshop was its last editor though.

  • How can one create a paint color generated from a photo using Kuler?

How can one create a paint color generated from a photo using Kuler?

The best way to remove a pattern is to use a Fast Fourier Transform.  There's a free plugin (as well as examples and instructions) here:
    http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6795661/4N6site/improc/fftplugin/examples.htm
Using the plugin requires editing the individual colour channels, which PSE does not natively allow.  You'll need the reasonably-priced Elements+ addin:
    http://elementsplus.net/
Here's a crop at 100% of the result I got:
The pattern is much reduced.  With some experimenting, you can probably do a little better.

  • How to import color palettes from Adobe Kuler to muse ?

How can I  import color palettes from Adobe Kuler to muse ?

I've looked for an answer to this but no luck so far. Until Adobe add this feature to Muse you could try this work around:
    1. Import a Kuler .ase file into Illustrator (or Photoshop too I guess)
    2. Select the desired colour in Illustrator and note the RGB values
    3. Create new swatches in Muse and use the noted RGB values rather than the colour picker.
    Hope this helps.

  • Background color changed from white to yellow and =25% changed to %% on email

I type =25% on my email and sent out, background color changed from white to yellow and =25% changed to %%.

Try leaving a space after the =
    Thus: = 25%
Where and when did it change? Did it change inside Thunderbird? Did it change in the Sent folder? Or in a reply to you?
= and % are used in certain types of email encoding; =20% often appears, meaning character 0x20 which is 32 denary or the space character. It is often used where an explicit space would be illegal, and this is common in URLs and other links. I'm thinking that =25% similarly has a special meaning. It ''shouldn't'' get decoded, but software is buggy.
I can't reproduce it here, which is why I'm asking about how and when it changes. Where does the Microsoft software come into it?

  • Photosmart 7525 will not print in color, except from the printer.

This printer refuses to print in color from my computer.  Since I bought it to print photos, this is distressing.  I followed all suggestions posted for this problem.  (I had tried them all before.)  It WILL print a copy in color from the printer itself.  That is the only way.  I use Adobe Photoshop and it won't print in color from there, Word, or the internet. Checked printer preferences; grayscale not on.  Printer full of ink.  Paper and quality OK.  Please instruct me on how to print color photos from a color printer!

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I understand you're unable to print in colour via PC with your HP Photosmart 7525 e-All-in-One Printer.  I'd like to work with you on this.  I have some suggestions that might restore this functionality for you.   From what you're reporting, with the printer printing in colour from standalone it sounds like the main issue is software related.  Accordingly, I recommend you try the following steps:  Clear Temp Files: Press Windows Key + RIn the Run dialogue box type %temp% and select OKIn the Temp folder select all items and delete them.  The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. On Windows Vista, 7 and 8 if a Temp file is still be used  you can simply 'skip' the used item and everything else will delete successfully. Once the Temp files are deleted close the Temp folderRight click on the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling BinNext, I recommend running Microsoft Fix it (it's designed for Windows 7 but I have found that it works with 8 and 8.1). Click here  to install.  I've had a lot of luck detecting and automatically solving common printer software setup issues with this utility.  If Fix it doesn't find a fix, or it prompts to uninstall the printer driver click here to reinstall your printer.  Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  If I have helped you resolve the issue and you liked this post, feel free to give me virtual props by clicking on the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

  • Is it possible to upload color groups from Illustrator CC?

Is there anyway to upload a color group from Illustrator to Adobe Cloud and have it appear as a Color Theme? I can only seem to upload individual colors. Alternatively, is it possible to group individual colors that have been uploaded into a Color Theme?
I am running Illustrator CC 18.1.1 on Mac 10.9.5 (Mavericks.)
    Thanks,.

Upload? You should be able to tap and hold down on an image until the Copy or Save Image options popup. Tap Save and it should be saved to the camera roll album in the photos app.

  • Color fidelity between slides and FCE output

Until the recent past, I have been scanning 35mm slides using a Cannon Canoscan 9900F coupled with Photoshop Elements v 2.0 into FCE v 3.0 on a Mac G-4 with OS 10.4.3. The color fidelity between the slides and final output was reasonably good. Within the past week I have upgraded system software to OS 10.4.8; upgraded Photoshop Elements to v 4.0 and FCE to v3.5.1. Now when I scan slides, the resulting images (both on the desktop and as printed with an Epson stylus 2200) are dark as if the slides were greatly underexposed. The Photoshop Elements correcting or enhancing tools do not solve the problem. I don’t think this is a monitor calibration issue but would welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Jack A

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the relation with FCE ? It's seem that is more a problem with MAC OS X itself or photoshop or your scanner than FCE.
