Color Fringing adjust ment in CS5?

I can't seem to locate the color fringing tools that were readily available
when you opened an image in RAW in CS2. If I remember correctly there were sliders for various colors of fringing. Where are these sliders in CS5 ?
Thanks

  • Where has the colored fringe removal tool gone in ACR 6.7?

Having just updated ACR to ver 6.7 (6.7.0.339) I am surprised to find that the colored fringe removal tool in the Lens Correction palette has disappeared. All that there is now is Transform, Lens Vignetting and the relatively useless Defringe.
I thought updates were supposed to provide enhancements, not remove things. What else has been taken away?
I use this tool a lot and would like to get it back. If it has been replaced with something supposedly better, then what and where is it? Have I missed something?
Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Yes, there is lots of useful information here, and thanks for directing me to it. The claimed improvements to fixing chromatic aberrations in digital cameras, including ability to fix LoCA fringing, are impressive
However, the article seems to apply only to ACR 7 (which I presume is exclusive to CS6) and LR 4. My question was really about ACR 6.7.0.339 in CS5, which installed via Adobe Updates, during the past week. On my system, this update appears to have removed the manual fringe removal tools in the Lens Correction palette.
There is nothing about this in the release notes, so has something gone wrong here?
However I have discovered that my lens is now supported, and that applying the (semi) automatic adjustments via the Lens Profile tab does a reasonable job of fixing chromatic aberrations (as well as geometrical aberrations) and is a lot quicker to use. However the manual tool should still be there to fix problems with unsupported lenses as well as a means of applying finer adjustments, perhaps to selected parts of an image, or to accomodate variations in manufactured lens quality.

  • IPhone 4 Camera Excessive Color Fringe / Distortion

    Hello everybody,
the following is a topic that I move with me since quite some time, but maybe someone can help solving it.
My iPhone (4) camera has extreme color fringing problems. As you can see in the following pictures, it occurs mainly on gradients.
I don't expect that camera type to have a similar behaviour as good DSLRs, but is this here normal?
The following image was taken in normal daylight.
How can I remove it? My software is always on the newest level, and the lens itself hasn't any scratches etc.
Is this a case for Apple tech support?
    Best regards,
    S.

You can't attach photos here, only link to them elsewhere.
Regarding the camera, I have to ask because others have made the mistake...have you removed the protective film from the back of the phone yet?
With the white hazy shots, it's extremely important to make sure the lens is grease free so wipe it with a soft cloth and try again. You'll be surprised how much difference it can make.
Especially important when a light source such as the Sun or a window is just out of shot (flare)
As far as the yellowing goes, all digital cameras (even several thousand pound DSLRs have trouble using auto white balance in tungsten lighting. I bought an app called "Almost DSLR and it clearly shows the WB being adjusted right down, to a point where it can't be adjusted any more. At this point the photo appears yellow (too high a colour temperature)
With a bit of luck it will be fixed in a firmware update, but in daylight and halogen etc, the colours SHOULD be excellent, along with sharpness and contrast.
Like I say, give it a little clean and try again.

  • Can the Noise Gate be adjusted in Audition CS5

    Hi All,
Can the noise gate be adjusted in Audition CS5
    Regards
    Matt

Ryclark is right that trial and error is needed.
However, to answer your specific question, for most noise gate applications, you really just want the fastest attack you can get (which will be the default of 1ms), otherwise you risk clipping the start of whatever sound is "opening" the gate.
Similarly, unless you want to add some compression as well, just leave the output gain at the default setting of zero.
The main thing in a gate is threshold--which is very dependent on your material.  Basically, you want to set this so the wanted audio makes it through the gate but everything else is muted.  You can get a rough idea of where you want this set by looking at your waveform...but after that you'll be best off tweaking it by ear.
    Hope this helps.

  • FR: color temperature adjustment layer

I know there are 5 million methods to adjust colors in PS, but I would really prefer a simple (and almost scientific) method like the color temperature adjustment in ACR (with the green-magenta color cast adjustment).
Ideally, PS would read the current color temperature from the EXIF data (and adjust to any adjustment layers below), and give the option to pick a neutral pixel (and display the color shift based on that). in case there is no original color temp available, the grey pixel picker could be used to establish a base value, and give the user at least relative color shift values (or the user could enter the values by hand from ACR).
The reason for this is that most (pro) photographers probably know the color temp of their environments (lights, ambient, gels etc) (or can read those values from ACR), so adjusting values in regards to kelvin would make things much more precise than the ambivalent values of e.g. the color balance adjustment.

What I was asking is a different method to achieve the same results what is possible with levels/curves/color balance etc without going into lab mode. (btw, the lack of a grey picker and the zoned approach of color balance isn't ideal sometimes)
thank you for reminding me that I need to brush up on my color theory. your reply has a tone of "why are you asking this, there are already tools for this" which I find a bit too conservative, when my intention is to make PS even more user friendly... if we would go with your paradigm, we wouldn't need levels, because everybody could just use curves, and yet both are very popular and often used based on the users preferences.
what I am asking is bringing the white balance settings from ACR into an adjustment layer, with all it's implications.
it would enable users to specifically balance images with mixed light sources (with the proposed color temp/WB adjustment layer with it's mask) by entering values in kelvin, and not some arbitrary numbers from 0-1 or 0-255. it would be so much easier to balance tungsten to daylight by adding 2000 kelvin to the image, or to control a straw gel that was added somewhere in the scene. I can imagine so many applications for this adjustment layer...

  • Color temperature adjustment

    Hello,
A really good feature would be color temperature adjustment for Adjustment Brush and Graduated Filter to be able to set a corect white balance through the whole picture. This could be a scenario: a sunset with (partialy) falling shadows (from trees) on some people. Also to have a White Balance Selector for those two adjustments.
    Thanks.

how to solve illustrator cs6 save as cs5 problem about the stroke(when the stroke with clipping mask and color is gradient, save as cs5 will change to embed ).

Because it was not possible to apply a gradient to a stroke in CS5. When you open the file in CS5, it is reduced to something that can be rendered in CS5.

  • Color balance adjustment layer opening as levels

When I try creating a color balance adjustment layer is it opening a levels adjustment layer. I'm using the New Adjustment Layer button at the bottom of the Layers panel. Is this a bug with CS6? How can I fix the problem?

This is the process that I go through:
Selecting the adjustment icon at the bottom of the Layers Panel, as shown below.
I select color balance, as shown below.
The properties panel is brought up, and shows the color balance adjustment controls.
In your properties panel, are your saying when you follow the above, that level adjustments come up?

  • Selecting Color Balance adjustment layer brings up Levels adjustment layer

Ok, so, all of a sudden I cannot get a color balance adjustment layer to come up. Every time I do photoshop creates a levels layer. Selecting levels makes a levels layer. All of the other adjustment layers seem to be working normally. How do I fix this? I have a deadline and no time to be reinstalling photoshop.

Reinstalling the application seldom helps, and re-installing without trashing your preferences is futile as you end up right where you started.
I understand your frustrartion, but please remember that you are not addressing Adobe here in this user to user forum.

  • Color Balance Adjustment Layer to blend faces?

I'm using 2 different images of 2 different people, and layer masking features from one person on to another. Afterwards, I play with the levels a little bit, though the skin tones from the different features are still off. I tried using a Color Balance Adjustment Layer, though I'm not really sure what to look for. I'm just eyeballing it, though are there any guidelines for doing something like this?
    1. Should I be adjusting the midtones, shadows or highlights?
    2. I added a little bit of red, is there ever a time when you might add add magenta or green to blend skin tone? What about yellow or blue?
    3. Any other general tips for doing this?
    Thanks.

What version of PS are you using?  I think there were a couple versions that variations was removed.  If you have it, it should be done on the layer that you want to adjust the color, but I would make that layer a smart object first, so you could undo what ever you did.

  • Color fringe problem

Is there any filter or technique to remove excessive color fringing? Someone sent me a video which has a lot of this. I have a still frame of it at this location that you can look at:
    http://www.fireworksland.com/misc/fringe.jpg
    (89 Kb JPG file)
The whole video has this type of fringing, especially of red and green.
Even though I am using FCE, I posted in this forum because it seems to have more people reading it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

all fireworks? smearing like that is hard to get rid of.
use the limiter in the three way and mess with the qualifiers then perhaps lower the saturation and luma levels of the offending hues. you won't be able to get rid of the smearing, however.
send me a few frames in .tiff or .png via email and i'll see what i can do.

Who can I address at Adobe to include a preference to color the adjustment pins in the next release?  Why suffer having to look for them when they could be easily colored bright lime or something that would show up?  Getting a headache looking for them everytime I try to edit a photo.

  • Lightroom 4.1RC2 no export color fringe correction to CS5 Camera Raw 6.7RC

The new colorfringe correction method in Lightroom 4.1 RC2 works fine even for difficult longitudinal CA when used with care. After basic adjustments I normally export my raw file to CS5 for further editing.
However found out that even after the Camera Raw update to 6.7 RC my Lightroom colorfringe adjustments were not transfered to CS5.
I sincerely hope this is not true: but do we require to buy CS6 with Camera Raw 7 to open the raw image with Lightroom corrections for colorfringes maintained?

I just confirmed for myself that the defringe adjustments do not transfer to Photoshop when you tansfer via an "Edit in Photoshop."
Hopefully this is very temporary (until we get ACR 6.8 for CS5), since I regularly bring raws into PS via the "Edit in" route.  I find this is useful to see if further improvements are possible.  A good percentage of the time the answer is no, in which case  I leave the image as a space-saving 16-bit raw, rather than a  bulky 16-bit tiff.
As things stand now, I''l have to first render my images as Tiffs in LR, then erase those that don't benefit from PS processing.  Yuck.
That defringe is a really nice tool, though!

  • Color variations from Adobe Illustrator CS5 to Acrobat 9 (PDF)

I'm a new designer who is trying to solve issues of color variations when I create a PDF file from Illustrator CS5. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to ensure that the colors match from application to application? Do I need to select certain settings for RGB, CYMK, or other color libraries (i.e., Pantone)? Thanks for the help!

If you are creating your PDF using Save As > PDF or Print > PDF; your selections in Illustrator's Color Settings should go with the file.  However, it could also be the settings you choose when you create the PDF.  I use Distiller where I can use the same settings from Illustrator and have them embedded in the PDF when distilled.  The key being that settings match when you create the PDF.
