Color in flash...?

I'm using Photoshop 7 and Flash CS3. I created a graphic in
PS, then imported it into Flash... and the color is lighter. I
publish the SWF and load it in Safari... and the color is still the
lighter shade.
What's happening... and how do I keep the colors from
changing? I'm on OS X 10.4.
Thanks :)

Short version:
You haven't calibrated your display to have a tone
reproduction curve defined by gamma 2.2 (essentially same as sRGB).
By default this is the assumed color behavior in Photoshop. By the
way you cannot turn color management off in Photoshop. You can
change the color settings file to something that says "off" but it
still really isn't off. Some profile is always assumed as the
source profile. And it really should be sRGB for most situations,
but in particular for web design.
Your display, however, by default, on OS X does not have this
behavior. It's lighter because its default tone reproduction curve
is defined by gamma 1.8. So what you need to do is calibrate the
display for gamma 2.2 and then things will be much better, although
still not dead nuts on because Flash isn't color managed while
Photoshop is.
With some futzing around, you could probably get this done
using Default Calibrator found in System
Preferences>Displays>Color tab>Calibrate. Use the expert
mode, and follow all directions. Near the end, set target gamma to
2.2 and target white point to either "native white point" or D65
(honestly, whichever one looks better/more neutral).
Long version:
a.) Displays are increasingly not described by sRGB like in
the CRT days.
b.) By default, Adobe applications assume sRGB, and use a
display profile to compensate for the difference between sRGB and
the display's actual color capability. This is a good thing.
c.) The web browser and in particular Flash, do not at all
compensate for the difference between sRGB and the display.
The result is RGB numbers in Flash go directly to the
display, which means everyone is seeing web and Flash colors
differently (from each other), and then also they see colors
differently between web browser and Adobe application. The apparent
mismatch becomes more pronounced the more the display being used
deviates from sRGB.
The necessary solution is that Flash needs to become color
managed, which currently it is not. This is going to turn into a
big issue very soon because Firefox 3 is slated to become fully
color managed, which means all images and CSS content are going to
be assumed to be sRGB and display compensation will occur for that
content. If Flash continues to not color manage, there will
instantly be a disconnect between Flash and other content in
Firefox 3 on both platforms.

  • Newbie Needs Help Modifying colors in Flash Template

    I downloaded this template: http://www.templatemonster.com/website-templates/21794.html
and i need to change the animated logo's color in the left from green to blue.  I have never done anything in flash before, this is the first time i've used the program, but so far i was able to figure out how to change the navigation and bar color and the text. but i can't seem to see where the color of this logo is coming from...
    Here are some screenshots...
    http://www.evoom.com/uploads/images/2009-06-11/R00B7CYXOp.jpg
    http://www.evoom.com/uploads/images/2009-06-11/d9zaxUjVdh.jpg
In screentshot 1 you can see that the Logo_Anim is made up of the Logo_1 - Logo_5 movie clips.  Each of the logo_# clips is a piece of the logo.  I'm not sure if something in the Logo_Anim is controlling the change in color of each piece of the logo, but it doesn't seem like the indiviual logo_#'s have any kind of setting...
I'm all sorts of confused... hopefully i have given enough information that someone can tell where this setting would be....
Thanks so much, i'm really looking forward to learning a lot about flash... seems fun!

    I'm sorry, i don't see anything...
the logo's five pieces are seperated into 5 movie clips.  There is only one base image which is the entire logo in black which is not something that can be edited in flash, but updated with a new file... in the second screenshot you can see what it looks like when i select each movie clip of each piece of the logo.  They are just one frame and they are black  There are two layers, neither are green or showing can be changed with paintbucket, and say nothing in the properties.
In the logo_admin it shows each of the five pieces and whatever is making it green seems to be appearing somewhere in here, but i don't know where to look.  I see nothing in properties or color...

  • Iphone 4, Trouble with photos coloration and flash strobing effect. Does anyone knows...?

Hi I am expiriencing following problems as per attached exhibits:
    Photo coloration
When taking picture there is no problem. When pictures are downloaded the result however is this:
    Exhibit A:
Than I am also having problem with flash strobing:
some time You are able to notice when taking picture or you see the preview:
    Exhibit B:
Do any clever boffins know what is up? Preferable directly the Apple "geniuses"

Your profile says iPhone 4, is that correct? Do you have file extensions turned off in Windows Explorer? If so, when you turn them on, are you sure this is a jpeg file? If the image viewer cannot open it, then something is going wrong, as the image viewer can open most any kind of image file, including both jpeg and png.
For Exhibit B, I would say it could be a combination of the LED flash and the flourescent light that is causing the lines. It could just be out of sync from the electric 60Hz cycle of the flourescent light.
At first I would recommend a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. But one thing bothers me and that is the fact the Exhibit A picture looks good on the screen of the phone, but then displays this coloration on the computer, as well as giving you a file error. Not sure if that is an iOS issue, or a Windows issue.

  • Colors in Flash not matching

I created a Flash menu using color hex code #ED3169 however when I export it as a .SWF it does not match the same color as a .JPEG thats been Saved For Web.
You can see an example of what I'm talking about here http://www.unwrapped-studio.com/index2.html As you can see the color of the Flash menu differs from that of the background stripe (despite using the same color hex code).  Any help?

Flash uses the sRGB color space. Make sure that you use that color space in Photoshop or Fireworks when you save your artwork. You'll get better results if you use PNG rather than JPEG.

well they will never look the same in both on the screen. i

  • Detecting color in Flash

    Hi,
a quick question, well I hope it is..........I wanted to know
if it was possible to have collision detected in flash by using
colors rather then shapes (movie clips, graphic etc...), I mean is
it possible for example to have a range of random colors being
detected when they come in contact with another particular
color.......lets say for example I have a black and white checkered
background and when a particular color (red, blue, yellow) comes in
contact with this background a sound/animation starts off. The
sound or animation being played depends on what background color
(black/white) was in collision with the other color (red, blue
etc…)………..Hope to get some help thanks.

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for the reply, however I had looked at this tutorial
before and it does not detect color only the two movieclips
overlapping....may be I didn’t explain myself clearly, so
I‘ll explain what I’m working on and hopefully it will
clear what is intend to do
A: I am capturing live motion through a webcam; I have
managed to separate the user movement from other objects, which
    works fine.
B: There are animations being played on the screen (bouncing
balls etc…), these are just general movieclip animations not
complex at, which work fine as well.
now I need to create a collision detection so that if the
user moves in front of an animation the animation moves
away/disappears etc…currently the webcam image is shown in
two colors, color1 detects motionless objects while color2 detects
user movement (motion), so what I need to know is how could I use
this webcam motion color (color2) to detect collision with the
    animations.
I have looked at HitTest with flash however this would not
work as far as I know, as this checks for the registration point of
two movieclips and not individual differences between
them……if I have misunderstood HitTest function then let
    me know…thanks
Hope this explains what I need help with, if further
explanation is required then let me know……thank you in
    advance.

  • Different Colors between flash & adobe

    Thanks in advance,

JPG is a compressed format - some color information is thrown

CS3 one of the biggest new features is the ability import as
PSD - I recommend using that feature.

  • Color management issues with Flash CS3, please help?

    Hello everyone.
I am having issues with color from a Jpeg image produced in Photoshop CS4
after importing onto the stage in Flash CS3. The color in Flash changes the image to a lighter less saturated state. Yuk.
Here is a link to a screen capture to show you what's happening (for a bigger view):
    http://www.rudytorres.com/color/weirdcolor.png
As you can see the front image is the Photoshop image showing the sRGB color profile embedded but Flash (behind) changes that color.
This client is quite picky and she will notice this difference.
If any one can help, please.
    - Rudy
    P.S. It's a button somewhere, Right?

    Dougfly,
Only an hour wasted? Lucky you. Color is an incredibly complex subject. First, forget matching anything to the small LCD on the back of your camera. That's there as a basic guide and is affected by the internal jpg algorithm of your camera.
2nd, you're not really takeing a color photo with your digital camera, but three separate B&W images in a mosaic pattern, exposed thru separate red, green and blue filters. Actual color doesn't happen until that matrix is demosaiced in either your raw converter, or the in-camera processor (which relies heavily on camera settings, saturation, contrast, mode, etc.)
Having said the above, you can still get very good, predictable results in your workflow. I have a few color management articles on my website that you might find very helpful. Check out the Introduction to Color Management and Monitor and Printer Profiling. In my opinion, a monitor calibration device is the minimum entry fee if you want decent color.

  • Flashing Color Bars - major frustration

I'm a recent convert from Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro. I've got a brand new setup using my 15" Powerbook, a Miglia Director's Cut SCART to convert my Firewire to analog video for use with an external video monitor. I'm currently working in PAL with a PAL monitor.
I just created my first project in FCP; it's set up as DV PAL and I've imported just one PAL DV clip into the timeline.
My problem: about every 57 seconds I get about a one second flash of colorbars on my external monitor. This is driving me bonkers. It doesn't matter if FCP is playing back the clip, or simply sitting idle.
I've discovered if I start another app and FCP is no longer the active app, these same bars come on the external monitor all the time. When FCP again becomes the active app, my external monitor again correctly shows video...but with that once a minute color bar flash.
These bars also don't look like what I'm familiar with in the past. They consist of a single row...there's no second or third row of patches. The first column is half-width and white, followed by the colors and last column is half-width black.
This flashing is driving me nuts. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?...and how to stop this?
    Thanks

Andy, your response is well thought out. Shortly after my last post, I discovered for myself these bars are indeed being output by the Miglia box. When I shut down the computer for the evening, only the Miglia box and monitor remained on...and you guessed it...I still had bars on the screen. So the bars themselves are coming from the Miglia box.
Also, as you deduced, this apparently occurs when the box receives no input. The next logical deduction is that Firewire communication is being interfered with. I was suspicious of that myself. At the moment, I have no anti-virus software installed. Furthermore, I was certain to have all programs shut down and used Activity Monitor to insure any unnecessary processes were shut down as well. (The only thing running was Snaps Pro, which I shut down; everything else appeared to be system stuff.)
I've used two different cables and two different Firewire inputs. One configuration had the Miglia box on its own bus with nothing else connected. None of this made any difference.
So at this point, I'm getting suspicious about the Miglia box itself. I'll give them a call today and see what they have to say.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Flash Player (Web Export) showing wrong colors

    Cheers!
Sometimes when I look at my exported galeries I'm not satisfied regarding the colors. Up to today I thought that this is based on my week skills in developing photos.
But that seems to be wrong! Please helpt me with the following:
I'm exporting via Web Module using a simple viewer template (which uses the adobe flash player to display images). Now I fire up that little web page in my browser (safari or firefox in my case) and compare what I see with what I see in lightroom (library module). I can notice a very severe difference in the color presentation. Next I start a second browser window and place it beside the one showing the flash player galery exported before. Within that browser window I call the image from the image folder within the exported web page and compare both. Hence! It does not look like the same.
To illustrate that I shot the following a couple of minutes ago:
    http://minolta.karlos.at/test.png
On the left you see the lightroom web galery (simple viewer) and on the right the jpeg picture itself. (You can try that by starting the web galery and then click on the photo and launch it with the command "open picture in new window"
    Weird!
Is that behaviour known and is there any solution to avoid this wrong color display?
    Thanks!
    C.

Flash is not color managed (although in the latest version you can somehow turn it on I understand) so it will never show the right color ever. That said, if you have a good display but not so good it has a wide gamut, and you calibrate correctly at gamma 2.2, you should see very similar color. The problem on Macs that have not been calibrated is that the default gamma is wrong (even Apple says this) and they have to be calibrated to be right. Normally Safari color manages so the gamma of most images gets automaticaly corrected, but it cannot color manage flash.
That said, from your screenshot it appears the difference is entirely due to the difference in gamut between your display and sRGB. There is nothing you can do about it but pester Adobe to enable color management for the latest flash versions in the Lightroom flash galleries. Of course nobody that looks at your gallery will actually see the right color anyway as basically nobody calibrates their screen and most people do not even use color managed browsers.

  • Flash workspace color problem

I have an Intel iMac runing OSX 10.4.11 I have installed CS3
Premium. I am taking a Flash class at the JC . When I start up
Flash CS3 the very first window (Flash icon and version #) is a
bizare rainbow color, the welcome screen has to be turned off or it
freezes the program, same with Dreamweaver. When I open a new
project The pasteboard is dark blue and the stage is pink. If I try
to change the background color on the stage with the property
inspector I always get a different color than I pick. If I pick red
I get blue, blue I get green, green I get red, white is pink.
Objects drawn on the stage have the same problem but type always
displays the color I pick. In the color picker if I type in FFFFFF
or 255 255 2555 I get the pink color. The only color that displays
    properly is black.
I have never seen this problem before nor can I find any
reference to it. So is it a Flash bug an Intel iMac bug or what?
All colors display correctly in Photoshop Illustrator,
InDesign and Dreamweaver. I also get bizarre colors on flash text
and buttons in Firefox but not in Safari.
Where do I begin to solve this? I have reinstalled Flash CS3
    and it didn't help.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

  • Flash CS4 only web colors?

Rookie question... If I'm creating a Flash file (ActionScript 3.0) based off of a Photoshop file, do I need to use web only colors in Photoshop?  I creating a pop-up page for a site.

No. While Flash has only one palette, the web safe colors palette, you can use any color that you like in artwork that you import. You can add colors to Flash's palette for any individual movie file. If you are using Flash CS4, you can import colors directly through Kuler.

yes. you could use an xml or text file to furnish colors to

  • Random Flashing Color Bars within Quicktime Files during RAM Preview Only

I have been getting random color bar flashes within quicktime files in AE CC during RAM previews using Multi Processor rendering. Files other than .mov seem to not have this issue (although I have seen it twice...though it may be due to quicktimes in the comp). The rendered output using MP rendering is completely fine. If I turn off MP rendering the ram preview is fine. The source material is coming off a RAID 5 at 600-800MBs, I have moved the footage to a local SSD and a standard spindle drive with the same results. I have tried everything.....disabling GPUS in preview, disabling Fast Adaptive Preview, Disabling Disk Cache, Adjusting MP settings and RAM usage per core, disabling hardware accelleration of interface, adjusting gpu memory useage, every codec under the quicktime wrapper including uncompressed codecs, updating Blackmagic drivers, updating quicktime, limiting how many processors Windows 7 64bit can see, resetting AE preferences. I even installed After Effects clean on my second boot drive for gaming with no plugins or other apps, same issues. Have discussed this heavily with tech support at Adobe and they are working on it for a few days before getting back to me. When I got off the phone the tech was of the mind that I have too many cores for the Quicktime codec to handle.
    My system :
    Windows 7 64bit
Dual Xeon E5-2687W: 16 Physical cores and 32 cores with Hyperthreading
    32GB 1866 DDR3
    3xNvidia GTX 680 4GB cards
SSD boot and seperate SSD media cache drives
8TB internal SAS RAID 5 using a ATTO card
    Blackmagic Deckline Extreme 3D+ card
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as this is a huge boon to my workflow. Having purchased a $12K system for grading and rendering....not being able to use the ram preview in AE with multiple cores is a huge inconvenience.

Here is the requested taskmanager screenshot. As my test comp only has a single duplicated quicktime in it, it renders too fast to really catch the AE instances doing anything. So this is from a heavier comp. Settings are as pictured above with 3GB per core using 8 total cores of the 32. It did flash the bars.
Here is what I tried tonight:
    - Followed the link on Quicktime having trouble with too many processors. Using MSCONFIG I dropped the recognized Processors to 21, 16, and 8 and tested all three settings. Each had the flashing bars issue. Again as usual, at random, sometimes 3 previews before showing up, sometimes the first preview run. I have noticed that the ram previews that take a little longer seem to be clean. Then sometimes it seems to fly through the preview, grabbing large chunks on the green progres bar above the timeline, or many little chunks very quickly....these are usually the preview runs that will show the flashing bars. I make a point of purging the cach between each one so it doesn't remember, plus I have disk media cache off, but sometimes I get the feeling it's remembering bits.
    - I removed all the Quicktime Components from the QTComponents folder and tested it. Flashed the very first run without any quicktime components.
    - Followed the Firewall or TCP instructions and made sure everything was allowed through ZoneAlarm. However I could not find the QT32 Server listed anywhere or figure out how to add it. No matter because I closed and force quit all of the firewall processes as well to make sure. Still flashed.
    - I followed all the advice on the landing page for Quicktime-related problems
    - I also tested out ram previews again thourougly with the same clip but converted to a Tiff sequence. No matter what I tried there was never any flashing in the ram preview with tiffs.
    - I also re-tested the clean render output. Made a ram preview with the flashing bars, then without purging rendered it out to a quicktime file and there were no bars at all in the rendered output. I even tried duplicating this render output 6 times in the render queue and rendered them all at once. Not a single one had a flashing bar frame. I even played all 6 1080P uncompressed 4.2.2 YUV 10bit pieces off the RAID with no dropped frames or hichups.
    - Killed every process in the taskmanager but for essential windows processes and the flashing bars were still present
    - Set the priority to Real-time for every AE process including Adobe QT32 Server, Dynamiclinkmanager, and all the AE processes. Still flashed.
I am now considering disabling two of my GPUs in the device manager. However I'm a bit worried about disabling the wrong one and being locked out. Any thoughts? Is the computer to powerful for some process somewhere? Why only in RAM preview? Thanks again.
