Color LaserJet MFP M476nw Fax Test failed

I bought a new LaserJet M476nw, but my fax test fails everytime through the laserjet setup and HP utilities software. The Laserjet is connected on a network and using Vista.
I have a dedicated fax line connected from the jack to the icon with the jack on the back of the laserjet. I can hear dial tone on the fax line when connected to a phone. I have called the fax line and it is rings normally and no answer. I also tried connecting a phone to the laserjet phone icon, while the fax line is connected to the laserJet, I can hear the dial tone from the phone.
I do not know what else I should do to get the fax test to pass, so I can start faxing on this new machine. Any suggestion is appreciated.

• Scanning to HP Color LaserJet MFP M476nw

I just installed the software for the MFP476nw. When I scan an 8.5 by 11 page, it scans it onto a larger size which must be cropped before saving as a pdf. This creates a lot of work for a large document when you have to crop each page before saving. What is the best way to scan 8.5 by 11 page to the same paper size in pdf using the MFP475nw?

Sure, on Mac you may use the HP Scan software, located under Applications > Hewlett-Packard.
Once clicking on New Scan you may have to click the Show Details button and change the Scan Size to US Letter.
Another altervative is to scan using the OS tools such as Apple Preview, Image Capture or the Printers & Scanners screen.
Be sure to undeck the Custom Size option within the scan settings and then select the US Letter size.
You may find a detailed instructions for those in the fofllowing link:

• Hp color laserjet mfp 177fw digital fax setup

Dear Folks,
Does hp color laserjet MFP 177 fw supports digital fax ( receive fax to network folders or email without printing both color and black) .please help me in this regard.
Binjack

Hi,The M177fw model do not support recieving faxes digitally to a computer, it only allow a recieved fax to be printed. You may find the Fax smart software features section below, Fax to PC is not a feature of the software for your printer:http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=CZ165A&opt=B19&mastersku=CZ165A&masteropt=B19&sel=BPRN&#merch-tech-specs (Just to compare, below are the same specifications for the M225dw which do offer a such)... Regards,Shlomi

• HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw and HP Web Services

Hi,
I have a HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer and have tried to enable the HP Web Services, but without success.
My printer is configured on a fixed ip-address, with a default gateway and of course with static DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
Every time when I try to enable the Web Services feature I get the error message "Connection error. Check your internet connection.".
My internet connection is working fine and the printer is able to communicate thru the firewall fine too. When I do some tracing I see the printer communicating to the public ip-address "23.21.172.122" but there is no response comming back. So I assume the problem is external and not related to my internal configuration. I have tested this with a fully opened firewall (allowing all communications from my LAN to the Internet) with exactly the same results. There is no answer comming back from the ip "23.21.172.122".
Also I can't find the HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer in the supported HP ePrint printerlist.
The 400-series is supported, the 500-serie is not mentioned.
But since the webinterface of my HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer is giving me the HP Web Services configuration page, I asumed this type would be supported too...
Does anyone have a clue how to get ePrint working on the HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer?
Is there anyone who got the HP Web Services working on a HP Color LaserJet MFP M570dw printer?
Kind regards,
Rene.

Hi Rene,
Have you tried updating its firmware version?
The latest firmware should improve the web services connectivity and may help resolving such an issue:
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdDetails/?sp4ts.oid=5210913&sp...
Also be sure to follow its steps which may help resolving a connection issue:
• Improvements made for connecting to HP Web Services.
NOTE: After updating from firmware datecode 20121002 to firmware datecode 20121019, if a connection to HP's Web Services cannot be established a Security Reset should be performed. Use the following steps to perform a Security Reset.
1. At the printer's touch screen control panel press the wrench & gear icon (Setup menu) at the top of the touch screen.
2. Using the scroll arrows on the right side, scroll until Network Setup appears then press Network Setup.
3. In the Network Setup menu select Security
4. Using the scroll arrows on the right side, scroll until Reset All Security appears and then press Reset All Security. Allow the reset to complete before attempting to connect to HP's Web Services.

• HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dn - Impossibly slow ethernet

Win7 - 64 bit on typical small office network setup (Comcast internet, Linksys Router, half computers on wifi, half wired).
Upgraded from terrible old Brother multi-function printer.
We print some files from remote desktop (using redirected printers.. as in, the remote desktop session has the ability to print through our computers to our local printer).
Sometimes the files are large (10-20mb).. and the Brother printer sends it right over in about 1 second.
New HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dn goes as slow as you can imagine.. I can sit a watch the printing dialog box and watch it 256kb........512kb........768kb.......... out of 15mb.
I have tried a bunch of combinations of different drivers (PCL5 etc), link speeds on the printer, RAW processor, Port types, and so on, but can't find the right combination..
I should mention that we are using the exact same ethernet cord as the old Brother printer. Also, the HP is set to a Static IP.
Please help!
Thanks,
Eric

I had this exact problem. I've had the printer for about a month and it was very fast at first. I really like the printer, especially the duplex ability. Over the past week or so it became excruciatingly slow. I just finished downloading the new firmware and drivers but before installing them something made me check the Ethernet cable which is plugged into my Airport Extreme 802.11n Gigabit router. It was loose and partially pulled out so I plugged it back in all the way and the printer went back to printing the way it is supposed to.
You might want to give this a try. Perhaps try another Ethernet cable or direct connection via USB if that doesn't work.

• LaserJet MFP M476nw - Administrator Password Reset

I've had my new printer now for about 1 month and on receipt I set the Administrator password. Unfortunately I can't find where I wrote the password down and now can't change my fax settings without it. Is there some way I can reset to factory default and start all over again?
Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

Hi @RubyANU
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community, as your HP Printer is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging. When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
You may find the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M476 series page helpful while you wait for somebody in the commercial Forum to respond to your inquiry.
Best of luck.

• "HP LaserJet MFP M225dw fax"

I am using an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw. My Paper is being wasted by fax confirmation reports with "0 pages and no fax detected." The fax type is "recieve."
I tried adjusting the settings and I am allowed to block faxes but it requires a phone number. Since the fax log shows no identification, there is no number to block.
Please help.

Problem solved. Thank you.

• Hp color laserjet MFP M476dw

Hi,
My printer was working earlier this morning but now none of the office computers are able to print any jobs. I ran a Wireless Network Test report and everything is fine. I also ran a configuration report and nothing shows up as an issue.

The heat from your M476 combined with the natural humidity of the laser toner fusing process is sealing your envelopes. You probally need to find a way to reduce the amount of heat that is being used when printing envelopes. Normally there are two places to look for configuring the heat. The first is the pritnt driver itself, which you can switch around with UPDs and different printer languages in hopes that one works better than another. The other is a print driver configuration for the paper type you are printing from. For example if you are selecting the Envelope #10 paper size or some custom size. Each paper type contains commands that the printer uses to heat up and cool down the fuser so that the toner gets properly bonded to the paper.

• Reset Password - HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw

I forgot the printer password and cannot find out how to reset to factory settings (or the password itself) without entering it. How can i reset the password? (To be more precise the password I set is not accepted afterwards but probably I misspelled it twice ... (length 20, lowercase characters and numbers)

It is a bug in the web-interface! Solution: The length of the password has to be max. 16 characters. (While setting the password there is no warning. But when trying to change (secured) settings later you have to use the first 16 characters of your password!) PS: To reset the printer I pressed the lower left corner of the touchscreen + Home + Return while powering on the printer

• Cannot print to Color Laserjet Pro MFP M177fw

I have a HP Color Laserjet MFP M177fw hard wired to my router. I can print from internet explorer, chrome and other applications such as Office and Notepad, etc. I cannot print from Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. I can get to the print dialogue page and hit print but nothing comes out and I can't see any jobs stuck in the print queue.
I am using an HPtouch computer with Windows 8.1

I have the same problem for my 177fw. It does connect to my desktop via wireless connection when I check the control panel, yet no printing job could be done and they just disappear in the queue list. Sorry to say that, Ms. Helen-Hua, but I don't think "trying to print as image" can help to solve the problem no matter what result it is. For most people I don't think they would accept a printer that cannot print a simple text document.
Look forward to receiving working solution.
PS. The wireless connection has absolutely no problem for my win 7 laptop and my desktop which is formerly win 7. The problem only happen when the computer is upgraded to win 8.1 and another brand-new win 8 desktop.

• HP LaserJet MFP M476dw paper size mismatch when copying or scanning from ADF

We have HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dw that has an issue when copying or scanning from the ADF.
Put a single A4 sheet in the ADF and choose copy, with all settings correct & no resizing, and the output copy is moved down the page (increased top marging by a couple of inches).
My initial thoughts were a paper size issue (e.g. treating A4 as Letter or vice versa) but all settings look correct. I have even done a reset and started over and the problem remains.
If I take the original and place it on the flatbed and copy from there with all the same settings then it works fine.
There is a similar issue when scanning from the ADF. Again, scanning from the flatbed works fine.
I've tried all I can think of. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Could it be a fault in the ADF?

• HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw fax to pc

I have just bought this printer and want to msend faxes to my pc. I was told by PC world that it had this function. So far I cant find it can anyone help. Many thanks

Hi , I would be happy to help shed some light on the issue your are having with trying to setup this Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw to receive your faxes on your PC. I have looked into this further for you, and I'm pretty sure this model doesn't support receiving faxes on your PC. You can double check to make sure I haven't missed it in the COLOR LASERJET PRO MFP M177 User Guide.
I did however locate a different model, where in the manual does provide instructions on how to set this feature up but it is a black only printer. Its the LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw (again black only, no colour.)
Step 5 (Optional): Configure settings for receiving digital faxes (Windows) The product can save incoming digital faxes to a computer folder. Use the HP Digital Fax Setup Wizard to configure the settings. This feature is available only for Windows. 1. Click Start, and then click Programs. 2. Click HP, click the name of the product, and then click Digital Fax Setup Wizard. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the settings. HP also has this feature available on it's HP Officejet Pro 8610/8620/8630 e-All-in-One Printers, which are Colour Inkjets. Some of the commerical products also support this feature but I'm unsure of which ones. I would really suggest contacting HP Shopping for more information on these models. Hopefully this has answered your questions, and please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Thanks,

Hello @ Averus89,
Welcome to the HP forum.
I understand you have done quite a lot to resolve your M176n and its connection to the ePrint service.
I would like to help you with this issue.
If the printer is not printing the web services info sheet, or allowing you to add it to HP Connected, I
would set a manual DNS.
I wont go into great detail about setting this up. From your post, I feel you know your way around the printer and your network. If I am mistaken, let me know. I will go into detail.
The DNS to try is:
Primary: 209.244.0.3
Secondary: 209.244.0.4
Set the DNS then try printing the web services info page again.
Let me know if this helps.
