Color Management for Epson printer using Photoshop Elements 6

I have consistently dark prints when using my new Epson workhorse 1100. It prints fine from iPhoto but not from Photoshop Elements 6. The Epson people say it's an Adobe problem. The Adobe people won't help, as it's not under warranty. I am interested in settings in PSE6 or on my Mac OSX. Or, what's a profile and how do I set it? Thanks!!

Yes, I've tried all of the options: Printer manages color, PSE manages color. All are the same dark prints.
On another conversation on this forum, I read the following. Very discouraging to think that Adobe knows of this problem but won't give me any tech support because too much time has lapsed.
I don't know what "plugs" are--sounds like this user figured out a way around it.
Any advice?

Adobe has admitted that there is a color management issue with PSE 6 for Mac. I have an Epson R1900 and I am now getting acceptable color-managed prints by allowing the Epson Printer driver to manage color management (ie; color management in PSE 6 turned off). The Epson Photoshop Plug In also works well with PSE6 and ICC profiles; however, I have yet to solve 2 problems with this particular plug in: (1) How to get the program to capture 3rd party ICC profiles and (2) how to print borderless prints. If anyone has seen a user guide for this particular plug in, I would be grateful to know how to download it.

Can I print a contact sheet that includes the caption for each photo using Photoshop Elements 13 for Mac. I previously used Photoshop Elements 6 for the PC and could do this.

I just switched to a Mac and installed Photoshop Elements 13. I previously worked with many years with Photoshop Elements 6 on a PC where I used the contact sheet function -- with each's photo's caption included -- to print print a collection of 400+ member photos for a club I belong to. This worked beautifully. I assumed I'd still have this ability with my new software, but can't figure out how to do it. Help.

Try using psd. Some rerports indicate some confustion between the apps with TIFF. See:

Any idea why I can't print using Photoshop Elements 13 and an HP Color Laser Jet printer?

Windows 7 with Photoshop Elements 13 - Recently purchased Elements 13 and haven't been able to print! I have an HP Color Laser Jet CMI1312nfi MFP and printed fine last year with a trial version of Elements 12. I keep getting errors saying "the saved print information is an incompatible version. It has been set to default values" as well as "default printer could not be opened." I downloaded an update to the driver for the printer today but still no luck. Any other ideas?

I ended up reinstalling the drivers for the Canon from the original CD and that took care of it. Normally I can just copy the PPDs for our particular printers to the PPD folder in the Library/Printers/PPDs folder and it works fine, but for some reason this machine decided it needed everything reinstalled. It's working now.

Step 1 instructions from a post in this forum suggest calibration first.
i have calibrated my monitor. I have a name for the calibrated color settings and can call them up in Color Settings before I open the photo in Color.
step 2 advice in an earlier post reads :
dont apply double profiling, let the application, Photoshop Cs in my case, handle the colour management and make sure no colour adjustment is checked in the printer driver, this is located in the colour management section of a drop down menu.
this advice, step 2, is hard to follow because I do not know which phrase/choices in the dialog boxes refer to letting the SOFTWARE handle the printing and which refer to letting the PRINTER handle the printing. Either workflow would work fine. The Epson has wonderful capabilities when I get it managed correctly.
I have repeatedly tried to use a workflow by Ballard but can't interpret the advice similar to "step 2" above in tandem with the opening choices for untagged photos.
A single workflow would be great, but I need a solution that works no matter what the source of my photo (scanner, camera card being the most frequently used, I use an Olympus digital and a Casio digital).

Please follow g ballards advice. You must understand first before you click. You NEVER USE the monitor profile except for the monitor itself. Hopefully you calibrated your monitor with an actual calibrator, which one was it?
The Epson will give you what you need and want if you actually know what you're doing.
There's a lot to understand, but it will become second nature once you follow the steps.
It appears that you don't understand calibration, color spaces, profiles, rendering intent, device dependence, and output.
You haven't given any system specs. Why are you using Indesign 3 and PS 8? Where is PS 10?

But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
Calibrate the monitor

My images are not usually layered and the particular case I am about to quote, it is not. The dimensions are 10,546 x 2,790 and the image has 16.7 mbs. I use 8 bit colour. When I set up the print screens for tiff, everything is normal until I get to the last screen with the image set upon the photo paper. Then the paper size indicated with the image refuses to budge from the A4 size, so the panorama gets printed on that. I consulted the Adobe chat line and the expert could 't get it to work either. So he came to the conclusion that the tiff capability had not been extended to printing panoramas. In seeking advice, I thought someone might refer me to an updating patch!
Well done! You have confounded the system! I could not find any control that would override the setting.

Pictures print out dark when using Photoshop Elements

I am using Photoshop Elements 6. I pull my pictures up and they look beautiful on the monitor. However when I print them out they come out much darker. Has anyone else had this problem. I even got a new printer because I was told it was probably the problem. Still have the same issue.

While you read up on color management (!!!), you may want to check the following:
Reduce the brightness of your computer screen. The default setting may be sub-optimal.
In Elements, go to Edit>color settings, and tick the option to optimize for computer screens
In Elements, open a picture, then go to File>print. Look for "More options", go to the color management tab, and under color handling drop-down, select "printer manages colors"
Suggest that you print from Editor, not from Organizer.

Printing from photoshop elements 6 for mac

I have an i-mac and use photoshop elements 6. I have created hundreds of images but when i have contacted printers to print cards i created from these images using indesign i have been told by many printers that there is an issue regarding RGB vs CMYK . Where and how can i get my RGB images printed for a reasonable price. billrene

The main question I have is whether or not there is an efficient way to get a rgb images printed. I have an Imac whose screen is a rgb pattern so even if i convert the images to cmyk (which i can do in a couple different ways -- through indesign or putting the images in photoshop). however since my sreen is a rgb format i can not acurately see the changes I have made through converting to cmyk. also i have several hundred images i have created and would rather not have to convert them all before printing. I have had problems finding a printer that will even attempt to print rgb images. I have checked at kinkos as well as several print shops in montana where i live. each time i am told they can not print rgb. the images I sent to those printers were unusable because of the color distortions. When I talked with some one in the Apple store they suggested I get a different computer. It has also been suggested i get a printer that could be calibrated to the rgb format and i could print the images myself. another suggestion i received was that there may be a calibration program/software that i could use to make the converesion. Printing problems using Photoshop Elements 6

I have been using Photoshop Elements 6 for several years and am currently having printing problems, e.g., some prints are too light, some are too saturated, or too dark...they just don't look like the screen which looks pretty good. I use Spyder 3 Pro to calibrate my monitor. Does anyone know of any websites that address these type of problems. Looking for some advice, tips, etc.

Does this happen only in PSE6 or in other programs that can print graphics, like Acrobat or Word or PowerPoint?
I only ask because my LexMark started to vary color saturation shortly before the print head dumped an entire cartridge onto one page and it gave up the ghost.
It wasn't just pictures. Word documents would go from light to dark. Graphics (business cards, labels) would print bright and then dim on the same page.

Epson stylus c88+ will not print from photoshop elements 13

I am using Photoshop Elements 13 to edit some images. I am trying to print on the Epson Stylus c88+ inkjet printer but i am getting an error that the saved printer information is not compatible with this version of Photoshop Elements. What do I need to do? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer but it still does not work.

You should find that your HP printers print much faster now since Usbtb is faster than Apple's built-in USB drivers that they ship with Leopard by default.

Anyone using Photoshop Elements for Fashion Design

Hi,
I'm looking for software to help me in the Fashion Design Industry. I want to use it for my sketches. I am a beginner when it comes to Fashion Design and have no experience using Photoshop software. I had read somewhere that Photoshop Elements is a less expensive version of Photoshop. I read that it does 90% of what Photoshop does without the higher end pre -press printing capabilities. I also read that there is a book that will help you with the other 10% to achieve the full Photoshop capabilities.
1a. I would like to know is anyone using Photoshop Elements for Fashion Design?
1b. If yes, please explain in details what exactly are you using it for?
2a. Is there more than one version of Photoshop Elements?
2b. If so, what version do you recommend?
3. How easy is it to use?
4. Do you know of any books you can recommend that will help me with using the software for fashion design?
5. If you don't feel Photoshop Elements is the best choice, then what other software would you recommend?

I've never used PSE for fashion design, but there is only one flavor of elements, not a variety of different versions. I would wonder about using it for this because it could make a lot of difference if you need to create output in CMYK form (for print) or to softproof (neither of which is available in PSE). You also can't create composite layers in Elements.
I like Elements a lot, but I would not say it's 90% of Photoshop, more like 70% and I would expect that people would use Illustrator rather than PS for most things to do with creating illustrations. Also, there is no book that can make PSE into PS, although you can extend what it can do, but Adobe has deliberately crippled certain features in PSE.
I would say we need to know what you need a program to do to be able to give you any useful kind of advice. If you need to be able to draw vectors and paths, PSE is not a good choice. If you just need to sketch, it's fine.

Does Elements need to have access to ‘My Pictures’ on Windows as when I remove Photos from ‘My Pictures’, Elements later, when backing up, gives a message that it is unable to ‘reconnect’ to the same picture on elements. On other occasions when removing a photo from Elements catalogue I also get a similar message when backing up saying ‘unable to reconnect’. 1. Is there a relationship between Elements and My Pictures and is Elements dependant on the Windows ‘My Pictures’? 2. Why does some photos in Elements in some cases cause them to multiply e.g. double; triple; quadruple; and on occasions even more? Is there something I need to do to stop this or an easy way I can remove the multiples without spending hours doing it manually one by one? Am I doing something wrong? My O/S is Windows XP SP2 and windows Vista on my Laptop. I have been using Elements 5 and have just purchased Photoshop Elements 8.0. (Upgrade) and about to install it. Be grateful for any advice as I do enjoy using the program if only I can resolve this issue. The organizer doesn't care where you send your photos when you download them via the downloader or where they happen to be when you first bring them in if you use the Get Photos command, but once your pics are in the Organizer, you *must* move them from within organizer or it can't find them. You don't have to use My Pictures at all if you don't want to, but regardless of the folder where you put your photos, if you want them someplace else, you use organizer to do it.
