Color management in hp 8500 officejet premier pro so I can use Lightroom or Photoshop?

When I print what I see on the Monitor is not what I get on printout.   I don't seen to be able to use the icc profile in either application.  If I let the printer manage the color, they are blue-green overtone.

Hi ssprengel,
Thanks for the reply. I didn't know how these things work but now realise that my profiles seem to have been sitting in windows/system32/spool/drivers/color  since I bought the computer in 2010.
The guide you referred to suggested that at least one of the profiles on my computer, GL3, should be suitable (there was no mention of GL2) In fact I ended up trying most of my profiles but they all had a very distinct red tint which was completely unacceptable. I even tried specifying and downloading a new profile from Ilford (I can't see where to get these from Canon) but this had the same red tint. When using the profiles I did switch off Color Management in the Print Preferencies, or rather i set it to manual and left all the sliders at zero.
When i used "managed by printer" there was no red tint and the print looked reasonably good although not quite matching the screen, particularly in brightness.
It may be worth mentioning that, for the profiles, the red tint was obvious in the print preview. I did not have to wait until the actual print, although I obviously did print to check.
I did try printing my RAW files to JPEG then printing via Explorer and this ended up around the same quality as "managed by printer" directly from Lightroom
Any ideas  about what causes the red tint when using the profiles?

  • Lightroom's color management paper options don't match any paper i can buy from Canon

Up to now I have been using "managed by printer" for printing on my new Canon MG8250. But i have seen several suggestions that i should let Lightroom manage the colors so i decided to give this a go by choosing "other" instead.
This gave me a list of papers to choose from: Canon IJ Color printer profile 2005, fine art photo rag 2, GL2/SG2, GL3/SG3, MP2, Other fine art paper 2, PT1, PT2, PT3. All the names being preceded by MG8200 series apart from the first one
However, when i looked up the papers available from Canon, these were all different:  Photo paper pro platinum (PT-101), photopaper pro luster (LU-101), photo paper plus glossy II (PP-201), photo paper plus semi-gloss (SG-201), glossy paper everyday use (GP-501), Matte photo paper (MP-101)
There are some papers here which look as if they they might relate to the lightroom list eg PT-101 and PT1, SG-201 and SG2 but, at the moment, i am particularly interested in which option should be used to match the photo paper plus glossy II (PP-201) paper which I have bought - GL2 looks as if it might be a contender
Any help would be most appreciated

  • Hello all How do I download updated version of Premier Pro? I am using Windows 8.

Hello all I just finished editing my first  mini documentary on Premier Pro. I took it to a friend who helped me polish it up using his Premier Pro software.
When I got home to edit on my laptop.  My file could not be read or opened because I needed to update the latest version. Could someone guide me through this prcoess step by step.
I'm not sure where to start and where to find the latest update for my Windows 8 computer.

You should find out which specific version of Premiere Pro you need to use.  The most up to date version is a subscription-based application, but you might not need that version.

  • How do I export Premier Pro CS6 files for use with Final Cut Pro?

In my cloud version of CS-6, I am trying to export or convert my finished work and take to my
co-editor that uses Final Cut Pro. In "export" on my PrP file, I have the option to export as FCP "with notes."
When I do that, and look at the notes, they basically say "Clip one did not export - Clip two did not..."
I saw a tutorial on the web where they had the option to convert the file in Encoder from PrP file to FCP, but
it is not an option on my Encoder in the cloud. When I try to encode the files as .mov, they are tiny, and don't

You can take the project file and the source files to FCP by exporting it as an FCP XML. Other than that you may have to export the whole project as a quicktime mov or any other editable your co-editors use.

  • Premier pro cs6: how to use 400 jpg images to make a movie?

I want to use about 400 jpg images to make a movie.  is there a way to add them to a sequence in a random order?

I'm not aware of a randomize feature either, but here is a suggested workflow that may make it easier than shuffling 400 images around in Premiere:
    Open your images in Bridge
Move them around to meet your random requirement
    Highlight all images (Ctrl-A)
Right-click / batch rename and add a sequence number to the front of each name (I like to add a text "_" too) and copy the resulting set of images to an empty directory
Import the whole directory into Premiere
    Automate to timeline
I used to use Liquid and it had a wonderful freestyle way to pre-order your clips or images prior to dumping them onto your timeline, and the above workflow is how I have come to approximate the same.

  • Managing Color with LR and the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver

I would like help understanding how to manage color in LIghtroom with the Canon Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver. When I ask LR to manage color in the Printing Module Color Management Profile, it warns me to turn off the printer managing color. But I cannot find where to do this in the driver.
The Color Options menu in the driver gives an additional choice for "Color Mode", but there are no choices here except "Standard", "Linear" or "Tone". The only Canon documentation I can find shows a choice to turn off printer management here, but this driver doesn't give me that choice.
If I look in the driver's "Color Matching", I see only two choices: ColorSync or Vendor Matching. ColorSync brings up Canon profiles like "Pro9000 Fine Art Photo Rag", but selecting one of these gives a warning of unexpected results. This pushes me back to Vendor Matching. But is this turning off the printer driver and leaving it to Lightroom?
Right now, I am getting the best results from choosing "Managed by Printer" in LR's Color Management Profile, and setting "Color Matching" in the Canon driver to "Vendor Matching". If I instead choose one of the Canon profiles in LR's Color Management Profile (and it tells me to turn off the printer managing, which I cannot do), then my prints have a slightly bluer color cast.
Is there a way to turn off the printer managing color in this driver and turn this over to LR, or am I getting the best results possible with the printer managing color anyway?
I am using a 2.4 GHz Intel iMac with OS 10.5.4, 2 gigs SDRAM, standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video card. I downloaded the Canon printer driver from their website, so I assume this is the latest. there is another driver available at their website, but for a lower bit depth. Should I abandon the 10.1.2.0 for this other one? I work with Nikon D300 NEFs, and I assumed the higher bit depth printer driver will work better with these images.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dear DYP: Unfortunately, those choices are not available in the 10.1.2.0 Canon Printer driver. There are only 2 radio buttons, ColorSync and Vendor Matching. ColorSync then provides a drop-down menu, with no choice for turning off the printer driver.
But I think I found the answer. I found a deeply buried FAQ on the Canon site (no direct URL; sorry!) Here it says:
"Issue: How do I disable the printer driver color correction when using the CUPS driver in Mac OS X 10.5.x?
Solution: Change color management options for printing (Mac OS X 10.5.x)
Change color management options for printing
Open the document you wish to print.
Click 'File' and then click 'Print.'
Note: If the Print window contains only two pop-up menus, click the triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu for expanded options.
Select 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu.
Select 'ColorSync' if you want the application you are using, and not the printer driver, to control the color management of the printed output.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS3 and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Select 'Vendor Matching' if you want the printer driver to control the color management of the printed output."
I tried it, and chose "Automatic" as a choice in ColorSync. The choices under "Color Options" are then greyed out, implying that the Canon driver is now turned off.
The prints came out great, with no color cast, and a little brighter than the printer managed prints.
So, Vendor Managed means printer manages, ColorSync means LR manages.
Thanks, everyone, for keeping me going on tracking this down!

  • Color Management and Canon i960 printer

When I go to print from Aperture it says to turn off the Canon color management driver. How do I do this?

It depends on the printer driver. My Epson driver has a special, color section. However my simple Canon pixma doesn't have this. It either automatically turns color management off (in PS and Aperture) Or you have to use a workaround (when printing form e.g. Illustrator) By selecting the sRGB profile in the colorsync tab.
So you're best option at this point is to contact Canon support: Luckily for you, they describe how to print using ICC-profiles on their website:
How to use custom profiles in printing
For printing using a custom, user-made or third-party profiles, follow the procedures below. ColorSync color processing based on the custom profile can be performed by the application, or by the printer driver.
    1. Specifying an ICC Profile within an Application
    2. Open the image you want to print in an application. Edit/retouch the image as needed.
    3. Check that the correct ICC profile has been assigned, select the item that allows the application to manage colors, then specify the profile for printing. For example, from the Print or Print with Preview screen of Adobe Photoshop, select 'Photoshop Manages Colors', then select a profile as the printer profile. At this time, please clear the 'Black Point Compensation' checkbox.
The ICC profiles installed for Canon photo paper appear as follows.
Note: The profile names for other manufacturers' papers will appear differently.
    (For example: Canon Pro9000 PR1)
    (1) Printer model name
    (2) Media type
Each letter pair represents its respective Media type.
PR = Canon Photo Paper Pro and Pro II
SP: = Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy
MP: = Canon Matte Photo Paper
SG: = Canon Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss
GL: = Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
PT: = Canon Photo Paper Pro Platinum
Note: If your printer does not support one of the above paper types, the corresponding profile will not be installed. Please see the on-screen manual of your printer for supported paper types.
    (3) Print quality
The numbers correspond to the numbers on the print quality slide bar in the [Quality & Media] dialog box opened from the Print screen of the driver. The lower the number, the finer the quality.
    4. Select the command to print from your application to bring up the Print screen.
In Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, select Color Matching from the drop-down menu, and then select 'ColorSync'.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or newer and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Using earlier versions of Mac OS X, from the Print dialogue, select Color Options from the drop-down menu, set 'Color Correction': 'None'.
    5. Select Quality & Media from the drop-down menu. Set the Media Type and print quality settings to the same parameters as those in the custom profile.
    6. Click 'Print' to print your image.

  • Color shift (color management) issues in Mavericks

Noticed color management lacking for Safari and Dock icons just after Maverick update, but was unable to check it with recalibration. Today X-Rite issued an update for i1 Display PRO and i was able to recalibrate my display, but the problem unsurprisingly wasn't in the display profile.
Bellow are two screenshots of Safari vs. Chrome and FF vs. Chrome respectively.
Color difference is seen with the naked eye, but gray and blue fields' values are also annotated (Safari is on the left, Chrome is on the right).
These are FF (on the left) and Chrome (on the right) with no color difference, both browsers are color-managed.

Issues here too: 2013 Mac Pro, latest Mavericks/browser versions (OS X 10.9.4), and Dell UP2414Q display (known for good color—not to mention the only retina display money can buy).
Safari seems fine: web sites with no color profiles in the images look very much as I am used to from OS X Lion and Windows on other machines (some variation from screen to screen is just life). CSS colors match image colors when they should.
Firefox is ultra-saturated: web sites the look fine in Firefox--and identical to Safari--under OS X Lion (on a different Mac/display anyway) but on the new Mavericks system, colors are eye-burningly saturated! That's CSS and images alike (without color profiles). CSS and image colors still match—but both are WAY oversaturated.
Note: images dragged from Safari and Firefox to my desktop both look fine when opened in Quick Look or Preview. Both (again, images without profiles) look super-saturated like Firefox when opened in Photoshop CC—despite Photoshop having the same settings I'm used to using (color management Off for RGB, working space set to Monitor) on my old Mac with PS CS6 under Lion. Yet the color values in PS CC do register as correct despite looking so bad (same goes when opening my own RGB source PSDs that generated the web sites to begin with).
Shouldn't Safari and Firefox out of the box look alike, since they do in earlier OS versions? (Even if some workaround is found, "out of the box" a new Mac with default Firefox installation now looks terrible.)
Separate but complicating issues, in case it helps to diagnose this:
    a) The Dell display's default calibration looks quite good to me; but if I run Apple's visual calibration steps which I would normally do on a new Mac, everything gets very dark. (So I went back to the default calibration, which is supplied by Apple and called "Dell UP2414Q"; Apple clearly supports this display specifically, since I never installed any Dell software.)
    b) When I take an OS X screenshot of Safari, despite it looking "right" everywhere (Preview and Photoshop CC alike), values are way off. (Regardless of whether I strip the color profile or not when importing the screenshot into Photoshop CC.) When I take a screenshot off Firefox, the screenshot looks "right" (no longer oversaturated!) in Preview and Quicklook. When imported into Photoshop CC, Firefox screenshots behave just like drag-saved images from Firefox: they appear super-saturated just like in the browser, BUT the color values at least register correctly.
    c) No setting I can find for Photoshop CC will make exported images look right (and match CSS colors) in ANY browser unless I accept them being super-saturated while I work on them (which of course is untenable). I'll deal with that separately: I've abandoned the new Mac Pro for Photoshop work and gone back to my old Mac (and PS CS6)--but this I assume to be Adobe's fault. I mention it only in case it's some kind of clue.
For what it's worth, here's my interpretation: Firefox and Photoshop are using the full gamut of the display, while Safari is not—and Safari looks GOOD not using the full gamut. (And at least with this Dell display, it looks "correct" that way.) Pure primary red #FF0000 (images and CSS alike) which appears normal to me in Safari and Preview and Quicklook turns to eye-burning neon red in Firefox and Photoshop (with management Off and working space set to Monitor). It's kind of amazing that the display can show a red even more brilliant than I have ever seen on a computer before, BUT it doesn't help me design web sites for the rest of the world who has a more ordinary gamut.
Maybe this is just a long-standing Firefox bug, revealed to me now that I have a large-gamut display? (But that wouldn't explain why other people have seen colors MORE saturated in Safari then Firefox.)

  • Complete color management workflow?

Quick question for the color management pros:
How do you profile your camera or scanner to close the color management loop in Aperture? As far as I can tell, there's no way in Aperture to profile a photo of a target like the GretagMacbeth Color Checker SG. There has to be a dozen plugins that do it in Photoshop-- including some amazing ACR javascripts.
The only way I can see creating a RAW camera profile for Aperture is to run the target image and my shots through ACR first to embed the corrected profile to all the images. Is anyone else trying to mange and profile devices from the camera through to the montior and printer? How does your workflow work?

  • How to Enable Color Management? (DV Compression Is Lightening Gamma)

This problem has plagued me with both After Effects and Premiere. I have a project with a number of .mpeg video files (I know MPEG is a bad file choice, but it's not causing the problem--I tested this with uncompressed media also). In AE, I have a darkly lit scene with gamma turned down to produce pure blacks in the shadowy areas. When I render as DV, Windows Media, or QuickTime and play the resulting file in Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic, the file has rather ugly dark grays where pure blacks should be. I read the article on color management and thought I had found the problem, but the "Use Display Color Management" option is grayed out and I've been unable to re-enable it.
Also, I don't know if this is of any major value, but the DV and Windows Media file versions look the same in Windows Media Player as they do in Media Player Classic. QuickTime files look slightly better in Classic than in the default QT player. This issue is especially confusing since the article only acknowledged that this can happen with QuickTime, whereas I'm having this problem with all formats except uncompressed. Thanks!

    > How do I enable display color management?
Have you enabled color management for the project (i.e., selected a working color space for the project)? If not, please read
"Choose a working color space and enable color management" for an explanation of how to enable color management for a project.
"Enable or disable display color management" contains information on managing colors using your monitor's color profile.
You said that you read "the article on color management", by which I presume that you mean the "Color Management Workflow" white paper on the Adobe Design Center website. That paper links to the
"Color management" section of After Effects CS3 Help on the Web and presumes that you'll consult that document for some of the basic underlying concepts and detailed procedures.
    > And I guess it's a redundant question, but are the answers to this issue the same for Premiere as for AE?
Premiere Pro does not do color management.
