Color mismatch Pixma MG5650 ?!

Hello,
I have bought recently a brand new Pixma MG5650 and so far it's been great (except maybe for beeing too nosy), but I when I print photos, I've noticed that the colors are not quite precise. I tested using the printer evaluator image from http://www.outbackphoto.com/printinginsights/pi048/essay.html and I have some issues with rendering the correct collours.
As for the setup, I have Yosemite (OSX) + Canon Glossy every day use paper and also with the correct photo type when printing. (Canon Glossy paper)
Is there anything that I can use to remediate the problem, without purchasing any additional color calibration tools?
Many thanks,
Marius

I have the color management turned off on the printer settings.
But do you have a measured color profile based on a sample print? Most likely not, so this is not doing anything in your favor. The current profile may present the defaults for a given printer, but not the actual density based on your other printer settings. So by all means, unless you can be sure to obey a full calibration throughout, turn on the printer CM. Also, since it is a Pro model, you may actualyl have to use the dedicated RIP software that was bundled with it to get correct results, not the default windows print engine.

  • Color mismatch between CS4 and Canon PIXMA PRO6500

Hi there! I am trying to research if anyone else is having a problem with color mismatch between CS4 and their printer. Last night I printed a .tiff image out of CS4 to my Canon PRO6500 printer and the sky came out purple / pink! It was supposed to be a stormy grey color. I have the color management turned off on the printer settings. I have CS4 manages color turned on and the correct ICC profile selected for the paper I am using. When I do a soft proof in CS4 the image looks fine, but when I print I get something completely different, mostly with the sky (purple / pink) color! Just for the heck of it I did a Print Preview under my Page Setup and guess what, the sky actually shows purple / pink! So I have no idea what's going on. I checked all my setting, ink cartridges, tried different paper with the appropriate ICC profile and no dice. Still have a goofy looking sky! I thought PROOFING the image is supposed to show you how the printed image is going to look? apparently it doesn't because it's not. The Print Preview has an accurate representation of the print but I have no idea where the pink / purple sky is coming from. They are supposed to be stormy clouds as I said. I appreciate any help anyone can provide .

  • Question re: colors mismatching in two different documents

    Hey all,
I use Photoshop (CS2) primarily for coloring illustrations and comics, and although I'm not quite a technophobe, I still always get tripped up on the technicalities of the program. Here's my problem in a nutshell: I have two different documents, both with the same color profile (Adobe RGB 1998), both open at the same time. I use the eyedropper to select a color. I switch from one document to the other, and the color as it's displayed changes rather dramatically (even though the color picker says it's still the same - 190R, 120G, 120B). The shift in how the color is displayed is consistent even if I change it using the picker or eyedropper - which is to say that the display error is consistently wonky from one document to the other.
What in the world is causing this? The saturation and brightness are quite different from one document to the other, to the point where it's immediately noticeable to the naked eye. This only happens with certain docs - in most cases, the color remains consistent from one doc to the other if I have multiple docs open, but it just goes wonky when I move over to certain docs. I've had this problem before, with colors displaying differently as jpegs, for example, than as tiffs in Photoshop, but that's obviously a correctable issue involving color profiles. I find it really frustrating that this is something that's happening from one tiff to another in the Photoshop work environment. Can anybody help me with this?

There's just no way this can happen if the two document profiles are really and truly the same. If, on the other hand, the profiles are not the same, this is normal and expected. The numbers will be different for the same color (and inverse).
Check again. Click the little arrow at the bottom of the document frame:
Also make sure that you have Color Management Policies set to "Preserve Embedded Profiles" (which is also the default setting). Any other setting is an unholy mess waiting to happen, unless you really know what you're doing.

  • Plot colors mismatched with legend

Does any happen to know why colors on a graph would not match the colors indicated in the legend?
I am trying to use a property node to set the color and name for each set of data which is displayed. The colors and names are displayed properly in the legend, but the color of the plot itself does not follow.

The loop knows how many times to go due to a feature of LV called auto-indexing. If you pass in an array and let it autoindex on the boarder, the loop will automatically pull out the next value in the array with each iteration--AND set the number of time to loop before stopping. Compared to the hoops C makes you jump through to use arrays, this is indeed Very Cool...
Note that if you wire both the N terminal on a FOR loop, and autoindex an incoming array, the loop will iterate the smaller of the two sizes. For example, if you wire 5 to N and pass in an array with three elements, the loop will only go three times.
Finally, always remember that a FOR loop can iterate zero times. In that case any outputs coming directly from the loop will be
the default value for the datatype. Arrays will be empty, numbers will be zero'd and (this is a biggie) references numbers will be invalid(!).
In the case of your code, I modified the logic such that it generates an array of indexes that has one element for each signal selected. This array drives the loop that sets the plot properties. Note that if the operator selects more than 5 signals the higher-numbered plots will be undefined in terms of color and label because you only specify 5 colors in an array. (Input an array of 10 items and an array of 5 items and the loop only goes 5 times.)
Note that, although it's not used here, auto indexing also works with outputs. In that case though, the loop will automatically collect an array of the output values--one element per iteration.

  • Color mismatch Windows 8.1 and Acrobat X and XI Pro

I am creating a PDF from Excel 2013 using both Acrobat X and Acrobat XI on my ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1.  Text that is blue in Excel 2013 looks purple both in the PDF and when viewing the uploaded PDF in Internet Explorer.  The text in the PDF looks blue when viewed on other systems running Windows 7, Office 2010 or 2013 and Acrobat X.  On the Windows 8.1 laptop, the colors in the same uploaded PDF also look correct when viewed using Google Chrome.  There appears to be a compatability/color issue with WIndows 8.1 and Acrobat X and XI.  Anyone else run into a similar issue?

  • Spot Color mismatches between EPS and PDF files

Recently I created a file in Illustrator CS6 with several Pantone color swatches. I used the CMYK color mode set to the Coated GRACoL 2006 color space. I saved the file as an EPS and we printed our test samples on our large format printer. After reviewing the print I saw the colors were off. The grey color showed up green.I then opened up the exact same EPS file and simply saved it as a PDF. We ran the PDF on the same printer, using the same material and profile and the color was completely different. This time the grey colors came out grey (correctly). We tested this twice and came up witht he same color differences between the EPS files and the PDF files. Why would an Illustrator file produce 2 different colors if saved as a PDF versus an EPS?
Also, I sent these files to another prepress person in our company and he printed them on our proofing printer. The EPS printed slightly differently than the PDF. He then opened the PDF file in Acrobat and saved it out of Acrobat as an EPS. After this, he printed the new EPS file created from Acrobat and it printed the exact same as the PDF file (correctly).
This leads me to believe that the problem is in the way Illustrator saves EPS files. Has anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks for any and all help with this very perplexing issue.

    I will speak from CS3.
The current PDF format if 1.7 exported out of Photoshop supports vector elements as independent objects, but you can't edit them correctly out of Acrobat because Photoshop reads the data as a flat file and drops the vector data. Basically the workflow is not finished being developed. Also, Transparency is broken within the PDF file format at this time. It will support Spots though correctly.
PSD and TIF support Transparency and Spots, but vector objects are rasterized due Acrobat reading the flat version of the file.
When Photoshop wrote its own PDF format and not the corporate PDF flavor that we now have, PDF's would support Transparency correctly.
I would assume that Transparency and vector objects would be addressed in the next release, but that is to be seen.
There is no best practice except don't do it.

  • Why the color mismatch when exported key to mov?

Keynote colors are rich and bright, but get all dull when exported to a mov.
Anyone know why this happens, or better yet have a solution?

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply.  No, I haven't converted any color images from RGB to CYMK.  The original graphic file was made as RGB.  The colored box in PM7 is set to the Color Options of:
    Type: Spot
    Model: RGB
    (R 255, G 0, B 0)
As said, in PM7 the two red objects look identical in colour tinting etc on the screen, and you can't tell the difference.  But when the doc is converted to PDF the difference is obvious.
After posting to this forum last night (Australian time), I wondered if it had something to do with dot resolution.  The graphic file is 300 dpi, whereas the red PM box is filled with color that may be at a much lower DPI, causing a dullness in the color.  I assume the PM 7 default for this can't be altered. Maybe there is a setting in Distiller that could handle this, so that the colors are equalised.
The solution I'm currently using is to remove the box (or oblong) containing PM's RGB Red, then make another graphic file which is RGB Red (either at 300 dpi or 200 dpi, either TIFF or JPG, it doesn't matter), of the same page size as the PM doc, then place it onto the page and send it to the back so that everything else sits on top of it.  When converted to PDF you now can't tell the difference between the RGB Red in both graphics.
I'm happy with the result, but it's a workaround.
    Thanks,

  • ACR/LR3.3 and Nikon D7000 - magenta color mismatch?

I recently purchased the Nikon D7000. The NEF RAW files are not supported in current versions of LR and CS5.
Downloaded and installed LR 3.3RC. Also downloaded and installed ACR 6.3R1.
Both work with the D7000 NEF-files with ONE exception. If I shoot a "Multiple Exposure" (one feature of the D7000)  the resulting image in both LR and ACR displays in strong "pink"/magenta. All other images display correctly.
If I open the pink images in Nikon Capture NX2 2.2.6 they open correctly.
If I use the White Balance tool (pipette) in LR, I can bring the image back to "almost normal" but the WB values then are Temp: 2150, Tint: -138. Conclusion: the Multi Exposure Image from the D7000 is completely mismatched by LR/ACR. But they are correctly matched by Capture NX2.
This obviously needs to be corrected before final release.
Has anyone else expreienced the same? Is there a workaround?

  • Color mismatch between Lightroom when edits done in Photoshop

I am having a lot of problems since I upgraded to Photoshop 5 and Lightroom 3.  When I go to edit a particular photo in Photoshop from LIghtroom the photo changes once I have saved it back into Lightroom (despite making no alterations whatsoever in Photoshop).  I am using Adobe 1998 colour space on both programs and can't figure out what is going on.  The new photos saved back into LIghtroom are slightly more contrasty.  Can someone help me?  I am only noticing this because I have run into a lot of problems with printing recently and I am trying to get rid of some of the variables that might be causing this.  Thanks in advance!

Also wanted to mention that I have calibrated my monitor and I have NOT selected the "desaturate monitor colours" box in the color settings dialog box.

  • Color mismatch in prints

I print out of Lightroom, monitor and printer calibrated with Colormunki:
Softproof with the paperprofile looks fine (whether the manufacturer's or mine)
Print into jpeg file - looks fine
Print to printer with identical profile - colors don't match. It makes a significant difference whether perceptiv or relative is chosen in color management, but in both cases colors just don't match. Perceptive - colors look completely different, relative - most colors are good, but deep black shadows for example are dark grey instead of black.
Printing the colorsamples for the colormunki - all colors look perfect.
I've spent a fortune meanwhile on paper and ink...

    Apple iMac OS X 10.8.4
Epson Stylus Pro 3800, latest firmware and driver
    Epson ink
    Epson paper & Hahnemuehle
    Canon 5D Adobe RGB

Is this a simple problem of not turning off color-management in the printer driver, so double profiling is occurring?
Or is it a more difficult situation where there is a bug in the printer driver that prevents color management from being turned off at least for some driver versions and you have to find the proper one before things will work?  Here is a long thread from a year ago with no resolution for an Epson R2880 and the user not being able to get a driver that does the color management properly:

  • Color mismatch EpsonR800 and Elements 6

Before upgrading to 6 from version 3, the R800 printed perfectly color matched photos. Now, they seem dark(er), and even when I switch from Elements managing color to Printer managed color and using correct profiles, the colors are still to dark. I also have an Epson 1270, HP8250, HP990 on which all colors are perfect. Right now as default, The R800 is using a color management called E_FIC8JA, there are others for different types of paper, but I usually pick an ICC profile for paper myself using driver or Elements. I guess I'm just generally confused about the color management I should be using on the printer and then what ICC profiles to use. For those who have read about this, apparently there was an issue at one time with darker prints mentioned on Epsons website, but now I can't find anything referring to that issue. Anybody, please help. I spend a lot money on paper and ink trying to get the prints right on my R800. Thank you.

Adobe has admitted that there is a color management issue with PSE 6 for Mac. I have an Epson R1900 and I am now getting acceptable color-managed prints by allowing the Epson Printer driver to manage color management (ie; color management in PSE 6 turned off). The Epson Photoshop Plug In also works well with PSE6 and ICC profiles; however, I have yet to solve 2 problems with this particular plug in: (1) How to get the program to capture 3rd party ICC profiles and (2) how to print borderless prints. If anyone has seen a user guide for this particular plug in, I would be grateful to know how to download it.

  • Finally Found Answer To My Color Mismatch Issues

For those that might come across this I thought I'd post my findings.
It turns out that I had my colorspace set to Prophoto RGB since I standardized on that for my images in Photoshop and had it set that way in Bridge's color settings. I didn't think an RGB setting would affect color panels (e.g. Color Guide) if I was using North American SWOP v2 profile for my CMYK documents but it does. When I changed the RGB profile setting to sRGB, the panel colors looked fine again in my CMYK document. If I create an RGB document, then Prophoto RGB works again as expected.
My best guess for this would be that since we use RGB monitors, Illustrator accesses the RGB profile for display and if it's wider than the document profile, Illustrator loses it's color cookies.

I don't understand the logic of the RGB space affecting the display though. Logic would say that no matter what RGB colorspace is set, in a CMYK document, Adobe would adjust the space to match CMYK automatically so the panels display correctly. Interestingly enough, Colormatch RGB which is supposed to be very close in gamut to CMYK, also dulls the color display to a small degree. I now have a CMYK setting using sRGB and an RGB setting using Prophoto to avoid the issue
Hoping that this post helps others out with something that is an undocumented gotcha.

  • Adobe and Windows color mismatch

I went to the house of a pro photographer friend to help him set up and learn Lightroom.
All went well until the export stage. We exported a RAW file as a jpeg to the desktop. I made sure the setting for the image was
    b sRGB.
After saving, we looked at the image in ACDSee and also dragged to Internet Explorer. In those applications, the images looked brighter and over saturated. By the way, the same problem was noted when images were exported from PhotoShop. So this is not exclusively a Lightroom problem. It seems that PhotoShop and Lightroom save these images in such a way that they do not render accurately on standard viewing applications. When re-importede back into either Lightroom or PS they look fine.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/wixmith/Technical/Diffferent_rendering.jpg
Again, export was carefully done to sRGB color space. Ironically, when exported as jpegs converted using Adobe RGB, the images looked correct in IE and ACDSee. I do not have this problem on my own system. Exported images look fine.
    Any ideas?

    >The point of mapping the color space to sRGB is to insure that the image as viewed in IE is as close possible to what you see in Lightroom.
That only works on a sRGB monitor. On another monitor, like your expensive LaCie, the absence of color management will display the image as if it is in the monitor profile. This means that everything will become more saturated. This is an unavoidable consequence of not color managing. ONLY in color managed apps will you see the right color. This is true for every monitor even more consumer oriented ones. Internet explorer will never ever show you the correct color.
    >A wider gamut monitor should affect the image in Lightroom and in IE the same if Lightroom is doing its job correctly.
Absolutely not. That is not how color management works. Only managed apps will display the real color. Lightroom is managed. Managed apps correct the color that is displayed by correcting for the actual gamut of your display.

  • Color mismatch MAC to Windows

    I’m running CS 5 on a PC.
My color cettings for CMYK are Euroscale coated V2.
Sometimes I exchange information with a Mac Computer running CS2. I receive PDF files and some of the colors are not what to be expected.
For instance a a picture sent from the MAC as PDF file with the background color C 100%, M 75 %, Y 0%, K 0%  is reproduced as 80,60,0,0 on my PC. (20% less)
I have to manually change it to 100,75,0,0
    How comes?

Do you have Color Management on both Windows and Macintosh set to Adobe ACE (Adobe Color Engine)? If you have any other setting such as Apple CMM (ColorSync) or Microsoft CMM on one or the other platform, you should expect some inconsistencies, unfortunately.
Also numerous changes and improvements have been made in Adobe color management since CS2. If you compare color management between platforms with the same version of the Creative Suite (or even with just recent versions of same) and you have the same color management engine specified, you should not see the anomalies you report.
