Color not correct in FCP 7.0.3

I am trying to edit video shot with a Canon Mark D II and when it is opened in Quicktime (straight out of the camera) it is fine.  I am then taking the raw files and compressing through them through Magic Bullet Grinder - the files still look fine color wise.  But once they are imported into FCP version 7.0.3 the are showing as overly saturated.  I did test exporting the file back into a quicktime movie and the color is fine. It seems there is only a "viewing" issue while in Final Cut Pro.

Jon Chappell describes this Gamma Issue in one of his blogs
Final Cut Pro tends to make assumptions when it comes to gamma. If you create YUV (e.g. DV PAL, NTSC) footage, it will assume that it was created with a gamma of 2.2, which it would have been if it had been shot in a camera. Final Cut therefore lowers the gamma in order to mimic what it would look like on a broadcast monitor, resulting in a darkening of the image.

Why does my text not render the correct color in some versions of IE?  Is there a fix?  The white turns blue and the yellow turns black. Here's one of  the pages but its the same across the site. The text does have a drop shadow on it which I considered as a potential cause of the problem. Any thoughts?  http://www.rwhuntley.com/research.html

Without the "height" how do we plan for the footer to be at the bottom

to exactly the correct height to end up at the bottom of the tablet
screen.  What am I not understanding?
That is not a good plan.
Designing websites for one specific size is a good way to have a broken site appear on everything else.
Setting the height of a text container is asking for trouble, as my screenshot shows, because the font size on my screen is slightly larger than what you test in, your page breaks and becomes almost unreadable at the end. Worse yet, it looks broken to your viewers. "Broken" sites don't get much for return visitors.
Basically, what's happening is your font looks smaller on your tablet than it does on my PC (whether that's an OS, browser rendering engine or user setting is beside the point), so you set the heights to a pixel size that fits, on your tablet. Let me rephrase that: "on your one specific make, model, OS, screensize and resolution tablet".
Everything looks OK to you, but when someone else comes to your page and has a font size setting that is different from your tablet's, the text will overflow the pixel size of the container and break your design.
Doing what I suggest above will keep that from happening, but it won't let you keep the footer in the exact location you want.
To do that, you could try position:fixed along with bottom:0px; in the footer container's css. You'd then need to play around with the end of your text area to give it enough "white space" at the bottom so the footer doesn't overlap the text, but it could be done. That way, no matter what device/browser views your site, the footer bar would be on the bottom of the window at all times.

  • Windows 8 Color Management - colors not correct in Adobe programs

I have been having a problem for some time with color management. I thought that I would cure my problem with my new Windows 8.1 system with fresh installs of all my programs, but it persists.
Here's my control image with the color #213D86:
When viewed in any Adobe program (PS CS3, PSE 10, Adobe Reader XI), this is what the image looks like on the drawing surface:
If I look at the color with the color picker in PS or PSE, I get #213D86. When I sample with a program like Iconico's ColorPic, I get #393C7D. Strangely, if I view the image with Save for Web, it appears correctly.
Obviously, I have some sort of color management issue but I don't understand it. My display is a Dell 2208WFP. I tried setting different color profiles on it but it had no effect on the problem. I tried using Spyder calibration and that made no difference. I've tweaked Windows color management settings, all to no avail.
I thought that the problem directly related to Adobe products because in every other context, such as a different photo editor like Paint.NET, the image looks fine. However, on my new Windows 8.1 system, the Windows Photo Viewer displays the wrong color as well.
Where have I gone wrong? What am I missing?
    Thanks.
    Will

Auto white balance is actually the culprit of these problems as your camera will attempt to measure it itself, and is often wrong. That's just the nature of these cameras. The only way to be sure is to shoot a grey card.
    > Microsoft RAW Image Viewer
Is that the Vista version? Otherwise it does not do any correction for the display. Canon's zoombrowser has a checkbox that has to be turned on in order for it do correction and I do not know whether xnView can use a display's calibration. Of the apps you list, the only ones that certainly do color manage are the adobe programs, and, if your display's calibration is correct, are the only ones that you can absolutely trust.
The reason the color looks different for a second when loading in LR is that it shows the embedded jpeg (the camera embeds a jpeg preview in the RAW file) until it calculates the actual RAW conversion. LR applies a default contrast curve BTW, you can try to see what happens when you use the zerod preset.

  • Color not correct

Have HP Photosmart C4700 series for approx 1/2 year & have used it many times for normal black on white printing.  Tried to print a letter with green color border, but prints a powder-blue???

The most likely cause is a color cartridge that is running out of yellow or has clogged nozzles.  Try the troubleshooting steps here, especially solutions five and six.

  • Have LR 4, Windows 7. Sent to prints to Costco but color not correct.  Need settings to compare to my actions.

    In Color management I used:
    Profile Adove RGB(1998)
    Intent: Relative
    Print To: JPEG
    Print sharpening Standard
    Media Glossy
    JPEG Quality 100%
The processor said that it must be my computer screen that is off.  Have not had a problem in the past but not sure the settings I used in the past.  When I print using my Brother printer, it is fine.  Using Costco, all colors are dull, almost like a gray sheild over them.
Please tell me the proper settings for sending to a print processing service like Costco.  I am working on family reunion and will process over 800 prints.  Runing out of time.

Using Costco, all colors are dull, almost like a gray sheild over them.
This sure sounds like an Adobe RGB image being treated as though it were an sRGB image. I don't know if the following is true of Costco, although I suspect it is. Many (most) mass production print labs want their production line streamlined for speed. Part of this means that their input software doesn't waste time reading embedded profiles and making customized conversions - they simply assume that everything is sRGB (because, in fact, 99% of what they receive is in fact sRGB). More expensive "professional" labs can afford to use color space aware software.
And in fact, for these large volume labs there is nothing to be gained by sending them images in any space wider than sRGB, because the gamut of their printers is no wider than sRGB - maybe even a bit narrower in some directions.

  • Why is screen calibration not correct in FCP X ?

    I use Macpro + 2x30" Cinama Displays
When calibrating the displays with ColorMonki, everything is fine..... Colormunki makes great calibration .......
    Until I run FCP X!
When using the colormunki-profile calibration profile, FCP x is just fine except for the viewer, that turns all the dark parts of my clips much too dark.
When turning off the profiles, everything is ok.
The same clip in events and in timeline is not "hurt" - it's only the viewer.
If you want to see it, I've made this 10 sec. screencast to show you: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2901482/calibration.mov
Why on earth is this happening and what can I do (except from turing off the calibration........ which is not really what I want)

    Bonjour Kenneth,
    Thank you!
I just change the calibration to V2 instead of V4 and then it also works in Final Cut Pro X!
Glad that I could be of help. In case if you need to print stuff related to photo papers if that is what you do sometime... just be sure to set version 4 in ColorMunki Photo and then re-calibrate... so on... I think it is a bit of inconvience. But it can be done, though.
Time for me to go to bed.
    Bonne nuit!

  • Printing colors not correct when using  non printer software

I am using a new CANON MX882. When I print using the Canon easy photo software the print turn out perfect. However when I print from Aperture or Photoshop Elements the pictures turn out with the colors blown out and overexposed. I have the lates drivers availabe from Canon which they say is compatible works with 10.7. I have tried using the printer manament or the software and it doesn't make any difference. Any thoughts on whats next? I am wasting all sorts of paper trying to figure this out.
    thanks
    Chris

I don't have Aperture or PSE but I do have Photoshop CS5 and with that application the best settings are to let the printer manage the colours. I have some grabs from the PS5 print dialog for your reference.
From the PS5 print dialog, from the Color Management menu the Color Handling is set to "Printer Manages Color".
When you select Print and the normal print dialog appears (or you open Print Settings from the PS5 print dialog) select the Color Matching menu and ensure it is set to Canon Color Matching.
And the last thing to check is the Quality & Matching menu for the Canon printer. The colour profiles for the printer are based on different paper stocks. So it is important that in the Media Type menu you select the type of paper being used and you also want to select High Quality.

  • Printed colors not correct from Preview

    Hi All,
I'm a pro photographer with a good understanding of color profiles and calibration. My G5 system is fully color calibrated from monitors (Apple Cinema displays) through to printer and I get great color reproduction on screen and when printing from Photoshop.
On-screen colors in Preview look identical to other apps, but when I try to print from Preview the colors are all wrong. I've never used Colorsync, so anything in there is set at default. When I print from Photoshop I use one of my custom printer profiles, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere in Preview to use these when printing.
How do I get Preview to print colors that match my screen?? I think Colorsync may be involved somewhere but don't know how to use it.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    AJL

You didn't make it clear what profile you are using.  Two profiles are necessary for colour management of printing - a monitor profile, and a printer/paper profile from the printer manufacturer or the paper supplier.
It is also necessary to ensure that all colour management in the printer driver is disabled.

  • My website background image color is not correct in Safari????

On my website my background jpg image that appears in bottom left corner is not correct in Safari. In ALL other web browsers (Firefox 3.1, IE, Opera, etc) my website looks fine! So it must be a setting or error in Safari. The jpg image in question has a background color of 191919 (dark gray) and it matches in Firefox and IE, etc... but not in Safari? In Safari my jpg image is a lighter color than rest of webpage. My header is the same type of file (jpg with #191919 background) and it looks fine... THAT is the strange part!
Is this a known issue with safari or am I doing something wrong? I have tried no color management on the image in Photoshop and with color management in Photoshop (when I save for web) and this doesn't seem to matter. It is driving me crazy. My website looks silly in Safari with this error. www.eXacteXposure.com is the website.

I'm not seeing that problem here, either (Safari 3.1.2 in Mac OS X 10.5.5). The image at the bottom left corner matches the background nicely.
Have you looked at your site on more than one Mac running Safari? My thinking at this point is that your web site and images are fine, but there's a problem with your installation of Safari. Do you have any third party Safari "enhancers" or hacks installed?

  • Trouble with colors not appearing correctly.

This has been an ongoing problem. I have created links within my pages and assigned the links different colors to help the user determine which link it is. On some pages the colors appear correct and the next page the color links appear as black. Sometimes the entire page links are black and sometimes it is just a few. I have deleted all links and colors and started over, but no luck.
Has anyone had this issue and overcome it? What is the cause of this problem?

I believe you are referring to visited links , which by default changes on revisiting the page.
You can try the suggestion mentioned here to change back to default color on visit :
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8188060/how-to-make-link-not-change-color-after-visited
If this is not you are referring to , then please provide page url and screenshots where you see a change in color.

  • Spot colors not showing correctly in acrobat 11

Spot colors not showing correctly in the output preview as well as the page correctly. I have a spot pms
295 on a page in a few different areas of text and backgrounds. The spot color shows on 1 of my backgrounds
and text and a spot color on another background does not. These items are on the same page. Although I
can use the eyedropper to check the color of these items and it states the spot color is present. The page
also prints correctly. Previews not happening.

I included 3 screen shots from Acobat 11 of the test requested. Also, included the last screen shot from Acobat 9 of same file.
Which shows correct preview. To eliminate possible ICC profile issue. I did change profiles to all that were in the profile list
with no change in either test.

  • Colors not printing correctly. Only blue and black work.

I just got a new HP OfficeJet all in one inkjet 8620 printer. The colors aren't printing correctly. Everything comes out light blue with black lettering. I tried installing new cartridges (genuine HP) and also tried gently shaking the cartridges. But the problem persists.

    Hi @Iolanthe ,
I see that you are experiencing issues with the colors not printing correctly. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
I have provided a document with some steps to try to see if that will resolve the issue.
Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet Pro 8610, 8620, 8630, 8640, and 8660 e-All-in-One...
Please let me know the results of the Print Quality Diagnostic Page?
If the test pages are printing properly, it could be a software issue.
What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Officejet 8620)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
Let me know how the printer name was listed.
From the application, make sure you are selecting the proper paper type.
Try another application to see if you have the same issue.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!

  • Color: re-correcting a single clip

I've done my Color grading in Color and sent the XML file back to FCP.  I've now got an almost perfect final version on a 'Color' sent timeline.  I want to re-correct a couple of clips.  But not the whole show, of course.
Can I go back to my Color project, correct those clips, re-render them, and send JUST them back to FCP?
Or do I have to just replace those clips in the Color 'queue' containing ALL the clips and resend the whole project back to FCP?
    B

    That field is blank.

  • Send to Color not working

Ok guys, I have searched everywhere and I reckon I have tried everything. Basically I have a sequence that I sent to color, go to color, colour correct everything, render and then select Send to Final Cut Pro. FCP open, says importing XML, gets to about 50% and stops, no message or error. I don't get a new sequence from color, just nothing.
Tried importing just the XML with the came result.
I have tried trashing the prefs, went back through the time line and removed every effect and transition. Still does not work. I had it work once before and everything was fine. But now.....it is so frustrating. I just want it to work as I need to get this video finished.
I am running FCP 6.2 and color 1.2, the latest anyway. Does anyone have any ideas. I have wasted days on this and cannot get it to work.
Message was edited by: Jared Bell

Without access to the sequence, its impossible to say.
There is something in it that is corrupting the round trip. It might be illegal media (which would be otherwise perfectly fine in FCP) or it might be something nested that XML can't cope with, re-directing the links to the new media. Unfortunately, the KISS principle is king.
