Color of prints to epson 2200 suddenly shifted.

I am running 10.4.11 and print to an Epson 2200 printer. I am pretty good on profiles and color management.
All of a sudden I am experiencing a color shift on some of my tried and true images. The images are darker and have a green shift and no vibrancy. I have cleaned heads, etc. and checked and rechecked the color management settings. Its like overnight something has changed. I have read posts elsewhere that Snow Leopard can exhibit this change but I am at a loss to explain what has happened. I have done a software update sometime in the last month.

I'm struggling with the same issue with my Epson CX5000 on 10.5.8. Photos are printing darker than they used to, especially in the blue/black colors. Flesh tones look good and sharpness is unchanged. Several black and white prints now have a sepia tint to them as well. Getting same results whether I print from iPhoto or Printshop Elements. Still scouring the net for a solution but I've eaten 3/4 of a cartridge set just trying to resolve this... not cheap at $60 a set.

  • Printing with Epson 2200 and Lightroom v1.3.1

Ever since installing Leopard and Lightroom v1.3.1 in my PowerMac G5, my Epson 2200 printer produces prints with a very significant magenta cast. Does anyone know of this problem or, better yet, does anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

I loaded file 11832 from epson us site. This driver v3.0aAs is for v10.4.4 - 10.4.x intel based macs. Even though it's not for leopard? I did this as nothing else work prior for LR. I also downloaded easyprint v3.1bA. I set it to managed by printer then hit print, at this point I set color sync on the pull down tab along with checking the rest of that printer menu such as paper type i.e. glossy profile and the mode to advanced print quality 1440 with the high speed box unchecked. The rendering intent is perceptual & print res at 360 dpi. The print output is at acceptable than most of what I had prior which was lack luster. I did base my start point for LR from the LR book by Scott Kelby. I think the output can be tweaked a bit which is my next endeavor. This did work so I hope that this help's.

  • Cant print to epson 2200 at 100%

    HI
I cant seem to print my document (PDF) to my desktop printer at 100%. Every time I print, it reduces the image by about 15%.
    Page scaling = none.
i have tried many print options.
The paper is large enough to fit the entire image and also have a reasonable margin.
even the preview shows that should fit.
If I choose a smaller sized paper the preview will sow in grey the areas that wont print.
    page setup is correct
set paper size and set to print using the epson 2200 driver
    G4 powerbook
    OS 10.4.1
    Acrobat 7 pro
    epson 2200 stylus photo

In order to get help you need to provide more detail about your settings. Perhaps the margins for the paper size you have chosen have print margins that leave a smaller print area than you think. In combination with this is there some sort of "scale to fit" set somewhere?
So what size paper are you printing to, and what is your document page size in Acrobat 7? I have the same printer and may be able to help if you provide more detail.

  • Color-managed printing to Epson 870

I have never succeeded in getting a color-managed print workflow to my Epson Stylus Photo 870 printer using PSE5 (or 4 or 3). The prints are consistently darker than what I see on screen, though the colors otherwise seem about right.
I'm pretty familiar with color management generally, and I have read the tutorials in the Missing Manual and at computer-darkroom.com. I will describe my recent experiments.
Perhaps someone who uses this printer (or a similar Epson printer) can offer some insight. What is noteworthy about these Epson printers is that they come with only a single ICC profile, rather than one profile per media type. The processing to compensate for media differences occurs within the driver. This complicates the color management story.
    1. Computer setup: Windows XP SP2, Samsung SyncMaster 193P LCD display.
    2. Monitor calibration: This monitor has programmable internal color conversion. I used the MagicTune utility to tune the monitor to sRGB. I then used Adobe Gamma to confirm that this is essentially an sRGB monitor; that is, the profile produced by Adobe Gamma yields an appearance that is indistinguishable from the standard sRGB profile.
    3. Photos are JPEGs tagged as sRGB by the camera. I am printing them from PSE5 Organizer. Color management set to "Print" (AdobeRGB). Paper is Epson Glossy Photo Paper. Media type selected in the driver is Photo Paper.
In the following experiments, I varied the Print Space setting in PSE's Print Options and the Custom > Advanced color settings in the Epson driver.
Experiment 1: Print Space: "Same as Source". Driver: "ICM". Result: somewhat dark prints.
Experiment 2: Print Space: "Epson Stylus Photo 870". Driver: "No Color Adjust". Result: even darker prints, with a slight color cast.
Experiment 3: Print Space: "Epson Stylus Photo 870". Driver: "ICM". Result: same as experiment 3.
Experiment 4: Print Space: "Same as Source". Driver: "PhotoEnhance". Result: by far the closest to what I see on the screen, and (subjectively) the best rendition of the original scene.
Of course, experiment 4 is depending on some magic processing in the Epson driver, rather than being a true ICC color-managed workflow. I'd like to figure out why my attempts at a color-managed workflow aren't working right.

"So it seems that Organizer and Editor do color management differently when
printing.... I would not have expected this; it seems like a bug."
My Epson 870 finally died. But, while it was working I did manage to get it
to work very well in a fully color managed workflow. I calibrated my
monitor with a hardware calibration device. The generic 870 ICC profile
that came with the printer gave me prints that were too dark compared to my
calibrated monitor. I had a custom profile made for the printer for each
specific paper I use and that made all the difference. For PSE 3, I always
printed only from the editor and used a fully color managed work flow
specifying the custom printer profile as the print space. The Epson printer
driver was set to custom and in the advanced tab, the "No Color Adjustment"
setting for color management was selected.
I didn't like to print from Organizer because I didn't care for the way it
handled things. The creations portion of Organizer didn't pick up all the
organizer color settings either if I recall correctly. The different
behavior is not so much a bug as it is two different programs that are
packaged together and loosely interact -- Organizer began life as Adobe
    Album.
I don't know about PSE 4 and 5 as I went to Photoshop CS2 instead of
upgrading PSE. I still have PSE 3 installed, but I seldom use it anymore.
I would have thought that the newer versions would have done something about
the Organizer printing issues but it sounds like that hasn't happened yet.

  • Strange colors when printing (lightroom & epson pro 3800)

After buying a new computer I'm having printing problems in lightroom.
Printing with other software (photoshop for example) works flawless.
I've used new and old drivers for my printer: didn't change a thing
I've looked at different printing profiles, custom or letting the printer handle it: hardly any improvement
The problems appairs with lightroom 2.4 64bit installed on a windows vista 64bit version.
The printer I'm using is a epson pro 3800. Normally i would say it's a driver problem.. (on my old computer (xp 32bit) it's works fine) but the problem only appairs in lightroom. And i used a few drivers. I must be missing a setting or something.
    Does anybody have an idea?
You can look at the attachment to see the problem i'm having.
    Thanks in advance

I am also suffering with the light room print module.
My Eizo monitor is calibrated with a Gretag Macbeth i1Pro.
My printer profiles are paper and ink specific.
In CS3 my working color space is Adobe RGB(1998) and my prints are a perfect match to the monitor appearance on both an Epson Photo 2200 as well as an HP Pro B9180.
I understand that there is no soft proofing option in LR 2, but is there any work around to change the working color space in LR to Adobe RGB(1998) and get a decent print without kicking the image over to CS3 first? Since both products are from Adobe, I don't understand why they should be working at cross purposes.
I went to Photo Expo in NYC today, but unfortunately Adobe did not take their usual booth at the Javits Center so that I might address the question to an Adobe specialist.
    Thanks

  • InDesign 3.0.1 "CS" won't print to Epson 2200 under Mac OS X 10.5.7

Since upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.7 my old inDesign, version 3.0.1 in the original CS release, refuses to print. In the Print dialog box, Print Settings area, the Media Type and Ink options are grayed out. A message in the same Print Settings area tells me the ink cartridge combination has been changed and I should delete the printer from the Printer List in the (now defunct) Printer Setup Utility and add the printer again. Have deleted and re-added through the current Print & Fax panel, to no avail. This problem happens only with inDesign. Help!!

Problem solved! I should have checked this first .. downloaded a newer driver from Epson.

I have a Epson 2200 printer seems something has happened to Epson drivers in conjunction with the recent 10.4.6 update .. getting "jobs stopped " from Epson borderless driver when I try to print anything ...
    Any ideas ?
I know the Epson 2200 drivers on Mac have been buggy for years .
I know the Epson 2200 drivers on Mac have been buggy for years .. it is only recently been able to get Epson 2200 to work properly & consistently is controlling via Lightroom's print module
I know Epson 2200 is primarily a photo printer , & I know does not work as a photo printer on airport .. only as a standard text printer a job it does lack luster ..
I know Epson 2200 has multiple drivers , seven drivers in fact .. borderless , roll paper , roll paper borderless .. etc .....
I am guessing something has happened to Epson drivers in the 10.4.6 update .. printer a Epson 2200 printer (& scanner Epson 2450 scanner are unavailable (getting a "could not complete the import command because there is no scanner installed " for the scanner from CS2 )

You might try resetting the printing system and reinstalling the printer. I know that when I upgraded my system at one point, the borderless printing driver had been folded into the other driver and was available through Page Setup. So you may be trying to use a driver that has been rendered obsolete.

  • I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to print a color photo on my MacBook Pro from iPhoto (not using Photoshop) using Epson 2200 printer, and everything I do in the Color Matching and Print Settings results in a photo with a pink cast to it. What am I doing wrong?

Have you checked the ink cartridges and made sure the nozzles are clear? Are you able to print from outside of iPhoto with the correct color?
Try the following: make temporary copy of the library and do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Why does my Epson 2200/ Print: Media Type list only 4 of the media types?

For some reason my Epson 2200 when I'm trying to print a photo in Photoshop, and other programs, shows under Print/Presets/Print Settings/Media Type: Plain Paper, Enhanced Matte Paper, Velvet Fine Art Paper and Water Color-Radiant White.
What isn't shown is the rest of the paper media types of: Premium Glossy, Premium Luster, Premium Semi Gloss, Canvas-Luster and a whole host of variations in those types of media. In essence what isn't showing are most of the print profiles from Epson for the different types of paper.
I done everything that I can think of to correct the problem and nothing seems to work. Now it has progressed to the point I'm have the same problem with my Epson Stylus Photo R200.
Both Printers are on USB connections. I've tried deleting the printers from the Printer Setup Utility; running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions; trashing Epson Printer Utility; trashing the preferences from the Home folder; trashing the Epson folder from the HD/Library/Printers folder; and then reinstalling all of those trashed items and deleted items and running Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.
Nothing seems to work! I need help here ..... what am I doing wrong??

I figured it out myself and answered my own question. If you have matte black ink installed when you are trying to print on glossy, the paper type is limited to only that media which black matte ink is specified. You have to switch out the matte ink for photo black ink. Delete the printer from the Printer Setup Utility and reinstall the printer. Whereas with the Photo Black Ink you can print on all types of media.
Nothing like driving yourself crazy over a minor point that puts a cog in the wheels of progress. :O)

  • Problem with color Epson 2200 on Tiger, Photoshop 7

I'm running Photoshop 7 on an iMac G4, 768 mb RAM, with an Epson 2200 printer. I've been using the same color management system with good results for 3 years. I hooked up an Epson R200 to print CD covers, and it caused my 2200 driver to crash. I reinstalled the driver, and now all my ICC profiles are messed up.
I've reinstalled the driver from the original disk, the updated driver from Epson, and the new ICC profiles from Epson. I'm getting a serious magenta cast on all of these, including ICC profiles I tried downloading from Ilford. I've contacted Epson, but all they told me was how to install the drivers, which I already knew. I responded back to them with a detailed description of the problem, but they never responded. I also took another Mac with Tiger and still have the same problem. I suspect that even though I've got color management turned off, the new Epson drivers are ignoring it and color processing anyway.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Magenta cast sounds like double color management.

  • Printing on epson cold press bright paper with Epson 2200 in Photoshop CS5

The printer is old. Epson chooses neither to support it, nor does it seem to have anyone in their tech support knowledgeable about paper profiles. The paper is the whitest of white, and a bit thicker and stiffer than any of the usual watercolor papers i have been using for years by the likes of Hannemuele and Arches.  The profile that came with this paper is actually made for an Epson 3880 printer, I suspect because the 2200 is no longer supported by Epson.
Usually with any new unsupported paper, I'll experiment within the photoshop print and profile settings, and eventually jerryrig something that looks decent. However, this particular paper is quite expensive, so before I waste a bunch of it, I thought maybe someone on this forum could offer some advise. I have tried printing with it only once so far, using the Apple (1998) profile with Photoshop in charge of printing. The result was that it "almost" works, except the red or oranges won't print at all, and instead, they both print as yellow. I also noticed that the paper ran through the printer much too quickly, as if it wasn't printing all of it.
Immediately after this test, I ran my usual watercolor paper through the printer with the same settings. it printed true, AND, significantly, it took 3 times as long to get the paper all the way through the printer.
Can someone here offer me any guidance? My own next (blind) choice would be to try the Epson 3880 profile that's made for this 13X19 inch paper, and also let the printer control the colors. But what about all the other settings? blackpoint? colormetric? all that stuff. Any help is much appreciated.
One other thing. Even with this throw-away test print, i can tell that the EWpson cold press bright is something special. Both the detail and the color (those colors that were true) were very deep indeed.

Well, my Epson 2200 may be old but it normally does a fantastic job on any paper I throw at it—provided the target profile is accurate and tailored for your particular unit.
It's not clear to me who supplied the target profile you are using to print on that Epson Cold Press Bright Paper, but I'm unaware of of Epson ever having offered a target profile specifiocally for using that paper on the 2200.
Frankly, I never even attempt to use any given photographic paper on my 2200 for which I don't have a custom profile for that specific combination of paper, ink and exact printer model.
My advise is to have a professionally generated profile made by one of the several excellent commercial profiling services that send you one or more target images to print on your printer and then you sent them your prints for them to generate the specific profile by using the best available  colorimeter.
Using a profile made for a different printer model borders on the absurd, in my opinion.  The least I would accept is a standard profile made by the paper manufacturer on a range of units of that specific printer model, and I would still not be as comfortable as with a specific profile derived from target-image prints made for my particular 2200 unit.
The prices for this service vary widely from one service outfit to another one, and some are very reasonable (try Inkjetart<===click*  for the $25 price range, for instance).  In most instances, it can be considerably cheaper than the amount of wasted ink and paper from repeated and futile trial-and-error attempts to get an optimal print from your 2200.
    * I have no connection to Inkjetart whatsoever,

  • Epson 2200 Color problem solved...I think

I have read the posts on the color problems with 10.6 and the EP 2200. I too had the same issues after installing 10.6 this evening. After much teeth grinding and some choice words I set about solving my printing problem.
The Gutenprint driver has the same problems GIMP had. It isn't really printer specific, as in all the options you once had. I would rather have no driver than have this lame piece of software automatically installed. Gutenprint will make the printer run but that's about all it will do.
    The solution is pretty easy:
    1. Open System Preferences. Click on Print and Fax
    2. Select the 2200 (or any printer giving you fits) and click the to delete the printer. Close prefs.
    3. Go to the Epson site and download the 10.4 driver, Epson 11832. Install.
    4. Also download the 10.6 updater and install.
    5. Open System Prefs>Print and Fax again.
    6. Click the and select the printer model, in my case Epson 2200.
    7. In the drop down window Select Epson SP 2200 not the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 - Gutenprint v5.2.3! The latter being a Jack of all Trades and Master of none.
    8. All the print functions reappear as expected.
Do I believe the reports of Epson dumping on the Mac market? Not a chance. Mac has the majority (well over 50% and growing) of the graphic and creative arts market. Most professional photographers I know use the Mac platform and are very enthusiastic about it. Epson couldn't afford to turn their backs on the Mac platform.
With 10.6 I did loose all my custom icc profiles from PS but not PS Lightroom. I also lost the custom monitor profile. I will re-profile my paper/ink/scanner/monitor and consider it a light hit. I'm sure I don't know why this update was so rough on the drivers. I'm also sure that there will be other pains I have yet to discover.
Is 10.6 crap? Probably not. Will I install 10.7 when it arrives? You bet! At OSX worst it is better than Gate's best!!

This is all good info, but for me at least, the real issue is not whether you can get the driver/printer to function (most people seem to be able to get it working) but when you get it functioning under Snow Leopard are there color issues.
Although the printer may work fine for basic documents etc, it is for color-critical photo work that I need my 2200. Many other posts are reporting that although the driver is functioning, there are fairly severe color issues when trying to create high-quality photographic prints using the standard color-managed workflow. This would be rather crippling for photographers and other artists who rely on their 2200.
Maybe those posting here could comment on whether they have been using their 2200 for photographic purposes and whether or not they have seen color issues. I wonder if some people just aren't noticing a problem because they aren't doing color-managed photographic work.
I haven't installed Snow Leopard yet and I'm trying to determine if this is affecting a very small percentage of people or if everyone is having trouble getting proper color from their 2200 since Snow Leopard. So far I haven't seen a single post specifically stating that they they are using the 2200 for high quality photo printing and have had no color issues under Snow Leopard.

  • Windows vista/photoshop CS4/epson 2200 printer interdiction

my previous computer used windows xp and worked fine with cs4 and the epson 2200.  unfortunately, I have never been able to get this fairly new 64 bit vista system to work with cs4 and the epson 2200.  I have downloaded the 64 bit driver from epson and after talking with epson tech support it seems it is  not the printer.  I have tried virtually every combination of  deleting/reinstalling the driver, every combination of "letting printer manage colors" and letting photoshop manage colors, etc.  in the past, I have let photoshop manage colors.  then miraculously, i let the printer manage colors and it worked for a day or two and then it went back to the same muddy off color mess.  now, it looks the same no matter what I do.  somehow, it seems as if my windows program isn't interfacing with the printer.  if anyone has even the slightest suggestion of what to do next i would appreciate it.  other wise, i may just upgrade to windows seven to see if that works any better.

I knew Vista had a dislike for IDE
Thanks for sharing that piece of info. I might add, though, that Vista not per se dislikes IDE, it just does not like some IDE commands and running such disks in compatibility mode, which in part of course also depends not only on the disk, but also the motherboard or specific drivers that may be required. Anyway, given the low price of harddrives, replacing an old drive with a new SATA should be a nobrainer for most people...

  • Printing from PPC G5 to Mac Mini with Epson 2200

I'm having a terrible time, trying to figure out what went wrong with printing to my Epson 2200, using my brand new Mac mini as a print server, since I set up my new Mac mini this morning. I have an Epson Stylus Color 2200 USB printer attached to the Mini, and I am trying to print out of Photoshop CS3 from my ethernet networked Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5, using the mini as a print server.
I put the Intel print driver for the Epson on the new mini and all the Epson print options are available and I can print fine from Photoshop on it. But, when I try to print from the G5, I don't have all the print options available for the Epson; specifically the Print Settings and Color Management option boxes from the Print dialog box, that are usually available when printing out of Photoshop to the Epson.
I bought the mini to replace the old MDD G4 that I'd been using (with no printing problems) for years.
Something happened to mess up my printing options since changing over to the mini, but I just can't for the life of me figure out what to do! Any suggestions would be very, very appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.

In case anyone else is having this same problem, I was given teh solution on the Adobe Photoshop User to User Forum:
Try installing the latest appropriate version of the driver on both machines, and then manually drag the Library/Printers/Epson folder (the root Library folder, not the one in your Home folder) from the Intel machine to the same place on the PowerPC G5.
    This worked like a charm.
