Color on a 2003 IPOD

Is there an update to get a color screen on a 15gb ipod? Do I have to purchase a new ipod to get the new functionality?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
There is no update that I've seen on Apple's store or elsewhere. That would require replacing the entire LCD component of the machine and its circuitboard. You could try calling http://www.ipodresq.com/ though I think you'll be able to find a used or refurbished iPod with color capability for less than replacing the screen and display components if you can't afford a new one since the color one has been through at least one revision.

Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Music Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
1.Double-click one of your affected iTunes Music Store songs.
2.Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    3.Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu.

I inherited a 2003 ipod from my daughter. The controls will not work when it is plugged into a power source. Can anyone help?

But they work normally when not plugged in?  What kind of power source are you plugging it into? It maybe outputting more than what the iPod can handle.  I had this happen to an iPod I plugged into a powerstrip that was plugged into the cigarette lighter in a vehicle an experienced the same thing.

Do I need to download a new version to save to the ipod to be able to transfer my music?

    Hello Tamatha,
So you transferred your original iTunes library to your new ASUS laptop?  If so, simply connect your iPod and keep syncing it as you always have.

  • ICC color profile for Apple iPod (5th Gen)

    Hello,
Does anyone know if an ICC color profile exists for a 5th Gen Apple iPod?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

The iPod does not use ICC profiles.
What are you trying to do?

I can change the cover of my pink ipod touch 5?? and where I can do or I can do it?
where I can do and how much would it cost??
Apple allows you to return an iPod for a full refund if you purchased it within a specified time period. In the USA that period is 14 days (except longer around Christmas time).
Go to the Store page of you country's Appse site and search for refund.
Otherwise, you will have to purchasea new iPod.

  • Moving from iPod Color to iPod Touch: what happens re: purchased music

I am upgrading from my iPod 60GB Color (Photo) to an iPod Touch. Question: in addition to my thousands of songs from my own CDs, I also have purchased quite a few songs/albums from the iTunes Store. When I sync my library to the Touch, will EVERYTHING be brought over? I was wondering if my library, including purchased music, is tied to one iPod or can it be copied to another unit without any problem. Thanks.

When I sync my library to the Touch, will EVERYTHING be brought over?
Yes, up to the limit of music the iPod touch can hold.
I was wondering if my library, including purchased music, is tied to one iPod or can it be copied to another unit without any problem.
The iTunes library is not tied to an iPod; each iPod is tied to a specific iTunes library, and by default, will only contain content from that specific iTunes library. An iPod shuffle cannot contain content from multiple iTunes libraries as playable songs.

  • Why has apple waited so long to make the colored back for ipod touch

I wonder why apple has waited so long to make colored backs for the ipod touch. the last models attracted scratches and you couldn't do anything about it and even if you had a case you would get some kind of chip or whatever. Haven't they heard the comments on youtube and stuff and now they anwer the call this should have ended at the second or third generation.

Apple has not said why. The terms of use of this forum include:

  • IPod shuts down, comes back, shuts down, etc...

I have looked on the board for this problem, and have found a few similarities, but none that actually match my case. So, here goes...
First of all, my iPod: he is a very old 20GB iPod, a gift from Christmas 2003, and I have been considering replacing him or his battery, but I'm not sure that replacing the battery will fix this problem and I'd really rather not shell out $400 when all I want is my same iPod only working (I've got no interest in getting a new color iPod that holds a bazillion songs and plays videos and mixes songs and predicts my future and can save the world and everything--I just want to listen to music, that's all).
Anyway, so the problem is as follows: my iPod worked fine for about two years, aside from some minor problems (for example, sometimes if I clicked on a song he would think for a few seconds and then move to the song after it--but all I'd have to do is go right back to the song I wanted to play, and there would be no problem). No real difficulties charging, holding a charge, going to sleep, waking up, etc.
Then, last summer, I joined the cross-country team, and wore him when I ran, and he started having more problems. I have a little blue iPod belt-pack that I wear when I run, and it's supposed to keep the iPod from bouncing out and crashing onto the floor, which it does. However, it does not keep him from bouncing, and I think this is what started everything. I have a certain playlist that I listen to when I run, and sometimes he'll finish one song and the bouncing will mess him up and he'll skip several songs and move to one towards the end of the list (and refuse to play the skipped ones, even if I click on them manually--he'll just skip right over them again). I'm fairly sure it's the bouncing because I have noticed that if I run more slowly and softly when he's finishing a song, it reduces the chance of him having a hissy-fit and skipping the next seven songs.
(I should probably note here that he does not always skip the same songs, and all of my music plays fine most of the time, so it's not a song problem.)
Anyway, shortly thereafter he started having battery problems when I ran--occasionally he'd crash in the middle of a run, and display his Angry!Battery! sign when I tried to turn him back on. Annoying, but he didn't seem to have problems any other time, so I'd let it slide.
A few weeks ago, however, he started having SERIOUS battery problems. I'd be listening to him when I was doing homework or reading or some other mundane activity that involves little to no real motion, and he'd suddenly shut down after about half an hour and display his Angry!Battery! sign at me when I tried to turn him back on.
So this went on, and I got very frustrated, blah blah blah, and then he started being a NEW kind of broken.
Now, he'll shut down with no warning (although I have noticed that it happens quite often when I am scrolling through a song--it's not nearly as frequent when I just listen to a song all the way through), but turn back on when I try to turn him on. The battery is displayed as empty, but it refills itself as he plays, until he suddenly gets mad and shuts down again. Sometimes, I can turn him back on, and he plays for a good amount of time; sometimes, I can turn him back on and he plays for about a minute and then dies; other times, there'll be an Angry!Battery! sign and I have to plug him in.
So, to recap my most current problem, because this post is getting long:
    -iPod shuts down randomly
-iPod turns back on, shows empty battery, but plays anyway and battery slowly refills
-iPod shuts down again after about half an hour
-iPod occasionally turns on and plays as normal, often for as long as an hour; if not, iPod either turns on and shuts down after a few seconds, or shows Angry!Battery! sign and refuses to turn on.
Also I should probably mention that my brother got an identical iPod for Christmas the same year, and has never run with his or really used it for anything except listening to music when he studies or drives (he has one of those car gadget things), and doesn't have the same problems.
I'm thinking it's a battery problem, but the fact that sometimes he'll shut down and then come back and play for his usual amount of time (remember, this is a 2003 iPod, so the battery has never been as powerful as the new ones), and also the fact that it happens most often when I am moving through a song, makes me wonder. Should I pay the $60 to replace the battery, or is it time to just get a new iPod? (I really miss running with music.)
    Thanks!

It's not the tracks that are causing it to freeze up. It's random!
All these tracks have been on my iPod since day one and played fine and most of them are from iTMS anyway.
So your suggestions is not quite relevant.

  • My iPod doesn't seem like enjoy working, could someone help me out?

This is my second iPod (I had to send the first one back to get it replaced) and it's getting ridiculous. About three months ago it stopped working again (the new one) and I got a box to send it back, but I tried installing new software and updating it and all, which fixed it, or so I thought. Now it's not working again. I can't even get it connected to my computer without the computer freezing completely. iTunes refuses to load when the iPod is connected, and "My Computer" (I have a win laptop) quits responding when I connect it too. If I could get it connected I would reset it completely, which I don't midn doing, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that. Has anyone else had this problem? I'd really appreciate help with this problem because Apple says I can't send it back... even though it's my second one. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance.

  • ITunes hangs when iPod is connected

    I have iTunes 8.2.1 on my 2009 20" iMac with OS 10.5.7.
When I plug in my iPod Touch, iTunes will show a turning color wheel and becomes non-responsive for a minute or two. Other apps will operate fine in the OS at such time.
This happens at random times, and I cannot nail down a reason.
When iTunes becomes non-responsive with a turning color wheel while the iPod is plugged in.....the OS and other apps will see the iPod fine. As soon as the color wheel stops turning, the iTunes become responsive, and then it shows the iPod under DEVICES. During the color wheel turning period, there is nothing under DEVICES in iTunes.
I am sure this has happened to others before. Darn! I thought Mac does not have such problem and I ended up buying one. Should I regret now?

    Hy there,
Having spend hours the last days solving similar issues with my ipod Touch / Mac Mini - here's how I finally got my problem solved. Hopefully this will give some useful clues.
I also found that on my MBP - the Touch seemed to work fine - thus excluding Touch hard/firmware problem.
    On the Mini:
    - Deleted iTunes
(simply trash the App - to be able to empty the trash I had to first terminate iTunesHelper via System Monitor)
    - Removed the Apple Mobile Device Service
    (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747?viewlocale=en_US)
    - Removed the App "iToner" as well as it's iTonerHelper files
(To find them use Spotlight with choosing the option file type other "System Files")
    - Repaired Disk Permissions
    - Restarted the Mini
    - Reinstalled the latest iTunes 9.0.3
    - Launched iTunes - deleted the iPod Touche's backup file
    - Closed iTunes - repaired Disk Permissions again
    - Launched iTunes
    - Put the iPod Touch into Recovery Mode and made a fresh set up
....finally it syncs again at normal speed without freezing iTunes
NO MORE beachball of death !
Hope this may be of any help.
    Best
Note that I have two iPhones who synced normally all the time on the Mini.
It was only the iPod Touch which brought up the freezing...? Go figure

This is not true at all.  There is NO 5g ipod touch at all.
There was no new ipod touch this year, only a new color for the same ipod touch 4th gen.

  • IPod not showing up on desktop or in iTunes, thinking I have to re-install.

My iPod isn't showing up when I plug it into my iMac G5 and going through the help menus, I've found that it suggests re-installing iTunes before trying to restore my iPod.
I have a color screen 20 GB iPod that I purchased about a year ago.
Now, will re-installing iTunes dump all my ratings and notes and cover art I've collected and modified over the past year?
It seems to me that my iPod is full of songs I might not like to listen to as much and podcasts I'm never going to listen to in the first place, so it seems to me that I'd be better off just restoring the iPod instead.
Any suggestions or people who have the same problem?
I will reward helpful hints, and this will be posted on the iPod board as well. Thanks.

Now, will re-installing iTunes dump all my ratings and notes and cover art I've collected and modified over the past year?
No, it won't. Cover art is embedded in the song files and ratings and comments are stored in the 'iTunes library' file, which isn't replaced or deleted by re-installing iTunes.
Before re-installing iTunes, you might read this article.
It contains lots of useful information about fixing these kind of problems.
Personally, I would try the 5 R's first (Reset, Retry, etc.)
    Hope this helps.
