Color on a Network

It seems that Color wont point to our SAN. Upon opening it, it tries to write files to the local drive which our administrator has blocked our accounts from writing to it. When using his account, Color does the setup by writing the files but when trying to import any files into the program it appears that it can't even register the SAN. I've read here and there that Color will absolutely not work on a SAN but does anyone else know otherwise?
Does anyone know of any workarounds about this issue? Even if you don't know of any I'd like to get some synergy on this issue so if you are upset about this as I am, let's chit-chat about this a bit so we can find a solution.

well, my issue isn't that I can't write files to our SAN; it's that upon opening the program, Color tries to write files to the home directory on the local drive which our IT person has not given us permissions to do.
it was months ago but he opened color on his login and found that Color could not find the SAN directory when choosing where to set up the folders.
I've also read this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5318838&#5318838
where some others have been having the same issue.
Possibly it's the way our SAN was setup. Based on our experience, different Apple personnel have different ideas about how to set up the system.

  • LaserJet pro 200 color MFP M276nw Network Setup Issues

Successfully set up the printer. Elected to use Wifi option. Wireless computers are able to print to it no problem. Went to go do my first scan, and it tells me to setup the print to network drive. So i go to do this, and the HP software on the host computer (with USB connection) tells me that it can not setup unless is printer is connected to a network.
Obviouslly it is connected to a network....
So turned off Wifi. Turned off printer. Wired it to the router. Turned on. And still get the error message. For that matter, can not find in the Printer menu (on printer) where i can "setup" a wired connection.
I am a computer nerd, but for some reason i gots the dumb today. Some pointers would be appreciated - regarding the printer that is.

    Hi @joe_smoe ,
I see that you are having issues Scanning from the printer's control panel, you are getting a message to setup the printer to a network drive. I would be happy to help you.
I have provided some steps for you to try. I would suggest though, since the printer is already on the wireless network with the other computers, to just create a new port for wireless on the computer that was setup by a USB connection, instead of setting up the Ethernet connection. A Ethernet connection will turn off the Wireless on the printer.
Since you are now connecting the printer to the router by a Ethernet connection, you can print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address. HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276n and MFP M276nw - Printing a Configuration Report.
Then you can create a new port for the Ethernet connection.
Then go into Devices and Printers, right click the printer and left click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
Type in the proper IPv4 address for the printer.
Make sure the printer is online.
    Test the printer.
Here is a document for how to Scan From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Network Folder) for HP Lase...
If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • How to install HP Color LaserJet 4600 Networked to Windows 7 (64 bits) ?

I am running windows 7 64 bit trying to connect to a HP color laser jet 4600. We have tried multiple times to get a Notebook to load the driver. Everything works and asks to print a test page. When you press print test page nothing happens and nothing will print.
This is a working printer. It is presently hooked to a network and it works from it. I am trying to make it work from my notebook. I am using a ethernet cable wired directly to the Jetdirict card.
Do I need to set up a network. I know the IP of the printer and can not access it from the Notebook.

This should work for you.  I've installed several printers using a Jet Direct this way:
Install the printer manually.  Go into Devices and Printers -> Click "Add a printer" then select "add a local printer" and select the option for "Create a new port - Standard TCP/IP Port" and click next.  Type the IP address of the printer into the Hostname/IP Address field then click "next" -  Choose Hewlett Packard Jet Direct from the Standard drop down menu then click next.  You will need to select your printer model/driver from the list and then click next.

    Hi @Username57 ,
I understand that you are having issues setting up the network folder. I will certainly do my best to help you.
I have provided a document with the steps for setting up the scan to network folder.
Scan From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Network Folder) for HP Lase...
It is usually a issue with the Network Path for the network folder created.
Create a folder anywhere on the computer.
Right click the folder and left click properties, select the Sharing tab, click the Share button, select who you want to share the folder with or everyone. On the same Sharing tab copy the Network Path. (example \\envy1730\users \Envy\desktop\networkfolder
In the embedded web server for the printer go to the Scan tab, select network folder setup, paste in the path for the network folder. Go through the wizard.
If those steps don't work then follow steps 1, 2, 3, to resolve this issue to try and get the network folder and path.
Step one: Make sure that the computer user account is password protected.
1.Click the Windows icon, then click Control Panel.
2.Click User Accounts, then select the account you used to log into the computer.
3.Click Change your Windows password, then find the user account you used to log into the computer.
•If the user account is password protected, continue to the next step.
•If the user account is not password protected, click Create a password for your account to create a password, and then continue to the next step.
Step two: Define the network location
1.Click the Windows icon, then click Control Panel.
    2.Click Network and Sharing Center.
3.In the View your active networks section, click Public network under your network name. The Set Network Location window opens.
4.Select Home Network or Work Network, then click Close.
Step three: Make sure that the network sharing and discovery options are correct
1.Open the Network and Sharing Center window.
2.Click Choose homegroup and sharing options.
3.In the Share libraries and printers section, select Documents.
4.In the Other homegroup actions section, click Change advanced sharing settings.
5.In the Advanced sharing settings window, make sure that the following network options are turned on:
    •Network discovery
    •File sharing
•Public folder sharing (read and write access)
    •Password protected sharing
    6.Click Save changes.
7.Your computer network is now successfully set to complete the Scan and Fax to Network. Folder or Digital Fax to Network Folder Wizard.
One user on another post had to do the following:
There was a problem in the "advanced sharing settings window". They turned it off, the option which is after the 128 encryption, I mean the "password protected sharing".
Please let me know the outcome.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Network Printing

Here we go again. I just upgraded the Windows 7 and I am still having the same network printing issues I encountered in Vista.
    1. It doesn't appear that there is a Windows 7 32-bit driver for this printer, am I wrong? I found the drivers page for this printer and it is VERY POORLY written. All I can surmise is that I should install a universal printer driver.
    2. The printer is going OFFLINE constantly. This printer is connected directly to my hub with a network cable. I have two other printers on my network, one is a Brother and another is a Canon. I have never ONCE experienced this issue with their printers. They just work like they are supposed to. Why does this continually happen with this HP printer. The only resolution I have found is to delete the printer and add it back. Every two days delete the printer and add it back, uggghhhh. Give me a break, don't you guys test this stuff before you sell it?
As you can see I am not a happy camper.

Surely, my 2605 is still within its service life.  I would have expected HP to do a better job in the transistion to Windows 7 than throwing out some awful generic driver...
Enable the duplexer as described in the Vista/WIndows 7 Duplex Troubleshooting guide as described here.

  • Color Labels on Network Volumes

    Good afternoon.
I have a unique problem which not even Google can help me with.
We recently implemented a number of SMB/CIFS shares which all our Macs connect to now.
Problem is that when applying a Color Label to a file, the Label drops if the file is modified and then saved.
Oddly enough the action on my own machine, with the same username/password to the same share, maintains the label, unless the file is "saved as".
Now the only difference I can figure is that my own machine is on 10.5.7 while the others are on 10.4.11. Testing on another Leopard machine it also seems to work.
Basically what I need to know is, is this a limitation of Tiger? Is there any way around it? Or is this another problem all together and my assumption is incorrect?

I have the same problem, so what did I do? In MobileMe in the calendar section I deleted all the calendars (duplicates, wrong colors) that were created / showed on my iPod Touch.
NOW I have no color calendars at all and all my events prior to July 2008 are simply gone (still on iCal on my Mac - and I'm checking, let's see YUP even August 2005 and earlier - all on MobileMe is the correct event, correct color.
BUT now I have no calendar colors on the iPod Touch, just about 10 events - recent or future ones - how to RESYNC this with the iPod Touch and have the calendars/colors correct and not duplicated??
Anyone have any ideas? Do I have to stop the PUSH and then update via the cable?
HOW DO I GET ALL MY EVENTS BACK ONTO MY IPOD TOUCH?
A mystery! Thanks for any help!

  • LaserJet 2550n network printer on XP host PC, can't install Windows 7 client laptop

Have Color LaserJet 2550n network printer connected to XP host PC. I can't install  Windows 7 client laptop for printer. The wireless network is fine, I can access documents back and forth, merely the printer doesn't work and there's no way to download 64bit drivers for this printer from HP.

    Resolved, not solved.
I talked to HP product support. The Officejet Pro 8500 A910 will not install on Windows XP (at least the Home Edition) when networked through a router. It will install through USB. I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with only USB connected to clean out all the network printer/scanner information. Product support claimed it would install through an ether net cable connected between the printer and computer but this does little good if you need internet access.

  • Color management isn't helping me

Hi there, someone please help me out?
I'm designing in illustrator CS3 on Windows 7 64-bit. I'm having difficulty syncing color with my network printing, a Sharp MX-5500N. No matter how I tweak the color management settings in the print dialogue, I always seem to get the same result. The only way I can get satisfactory results is if I change apply the color profile of the printer to the document I am working in and then completely redo the colors of my artwork. But no matter what, when I try to export the artwork to PNG and place it in a Microsoft Word or Publisher File, it prints completely bogus, purple is way too blue. Should windows color management prevent this? What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Dalton

Hi Emil, sorry I disappeared, I've kind of had to put this on the backburner, but now I have process pantone swatches to compare to and know a little better what I'm doing.
Here is where I am at:
I used the Adobe bridge to find the closest CMYK values to my Pantone colour. On my screen, they look completely wrong compared to my swatch, which is most likely my display's fault. (I can't seem to get it calibrated; this has obviously been part of my problem) Anyways, these values print completely wrong. So I tried using ai’s conversion tools both how you described and just in the print dialogue. The result is slightly better, but still awful. I see that the profile conversion does work quite similar to the conversion in the print dialogue. It is converting the colours, but not properly. Also, I tried that cool web program, but it was unable to read my printers icm file.
My conclusion is that for whatever reason the colour conversion isn’t working with this printer. So I went ahead and painstaking found out what CMYK values print closest to our pantone from this printer, something the conversion should be doing for me. I found a value I like, so as long as I print from illustrator and preserve CMYK values I am happy. It doesn’t matter whether I pick SWOP or the printer’s icm in the dialogue under “printer’s colour profile” I get the same result. I believe this is because, since everything I am printing is illustrator shapes, no colour management takes place. (Don’t feel bad telling me I am wrong if I am)
    BUT
How can I get these same results once I export the PNG?
I appreciate your PDF suggestion Emil, but no one else where I work will be able to do that. They need to be able to drag the PNG into a document, click print, and get the right results. So I need find out what I need to set the colours to in illustrator to export them and get PNGs that print.
So I sort of did what you suggested Emil, I converted them to the printer profile and then exported them. The results were better but still not great.
However, I am able to export JPEGs and TIFFs no problem, whether or not I embed the profile. They print fine. However, I need transparency. Metafiles, whatever that is, has the same problems as PNG.
Thanks for all your help Emil, I guess my new and final question for you, or anyone, is: How can I export to a file that supports transparency with reliable colours?

  • Printer not printing in color with OS X 10.7 (Lion)

    Greetings,
I have a Konica-Minolta Magicolor 2350 color laser printer (network connection) that is about 4 years old. I have used this printer successfully with Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). In my home network I have several computers, 2 running Snow Leopard and one running Lion, that print to this printer.
The units running Snow Leopard print well with the unit, color is good and black printing sharp. The problem is with LIon. It appears I can't print anything in color. Additionally, the black printing is not very sharp.
I have gone to the Konical Minolta site and confirmed I have the latest drivers and firmware. Is there a patch or setting in Lion that I am missing? Is anyone else having difficulyt with printing with LIon? Is there something in my settings that need to be changed?
The problems appear to be with all the programs running under Lion. I have tried printing under Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Word and Photoshop Elements (all are new versions of the software.)
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Tim Kern

    And a couple more suggestions.
The Generic PCL Laser Printer included with Lion will only print in black and white. So open Print & Scan, select the Konica printer, click on Options & Supplies and then select the Driver tab. Ensure this does not show Generic PCL Laser.
And, there is also a Generic Postscript printer driver included with Lion that does print in colour. So to rule out an issue with the KM driver, create another queue to the printer but this time select Generic Postscript in the Print Using menu and see if this prints in colour.

  • Does compiling an advanced datagrid using flex ant task require additional config other than the license property?

    Hi,
I am trying to build my Flex app which uses the Advanced Data Grid in a couple of locations. Originally, when I built the app using the flex ant tasks, I noticed the Visualization Trial watermark show up on the screen. I then added the license tag with the serial number to my flex-config.xml and re-ran my ant build. The watermark goes away, but then when I look at the advanced datagrid, the datagrid shows up with the hierarchy, but the data does not display in the grid (only the group by nodes are visible, not the data for the leaf elements). This works fine when I build the app using my Flex Builder. Is there something I am missing or need to add to my flex ant task to make this work?

I am printing to a HP Color LaserJet 2600n networked printer. I updated my drivers. The printer prints from Apple applications just fine (iWork, Safari, Preview, Mail) it prints from Word after the MS update was installed. Does not print from PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Canvas version 8 or version X.
PS The firmware update for the Printer won't run because it doesn't recognize OS X 10.5.x
Other Problem. I can't stay connect to my Air Port extreme that has a Terra Byte connected to it. I regularly (every other day) have to reset it get connected. It used to work fine under Tiger Just an additional gripe

  • Upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite breaks Active Directory. Is there a fix / work-around?

I work for an organization that uses Active Directory  (Windows Server 2008, I believe) for user account management and also for managing printer shares. Until Yosemite, OS X worked brilliantly with AD and our user accounts and machines were bound easily and reliably. When any user upgrades to Yosemite, the process occurs without a hitch except that AD connectivity breaks.
The color indicator for Network Account Server in Users & Groups is green, indicating that believes the connection to the directory server is OK. If you select "Edit" for the directory configuration - everything looks as it did before. However, if one attempts to access the Active Directory tree using Directory Utility it displays the error "Connection failed to node '/Active Directory/COMPANY/All Domains'. If one uses the command line utility 'dscl' to attempt to list AD entries, you also get errors:
    > ls Active\ Directory/COMPANY
    All Domains
    > ls Active\ Directory/COMPANY/All\ Domains
    ls: Invalid Path
    <dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14009 (eDSUnknownNodeName)
If I go to add a printer, I can no longer retrieve the printer list from the domain.
I have checked, and there DNS search domains are correctly configured and fully configured properly on all the computers involved. They can all ping the AD servers, and if I used dig to check for SRV records for LDAP (_ldap._tcp.directory.company.com), they are correct.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on? What's changed and how to fix it?

We spent over a month trying to find a fix for this issue, and even your fix didn't work.
Same as you we have forest AD.LOCAL and domain as domain.com.
We are sure the DNS settings are fine, the green light is on and it even authenticate as it said my password will expire in X days. But it never pass the loading login screen.
    Can anyone assist please?
    Thanks.
