Color on external monitor is green.

I have an external monitor connected to my Mac Pro. About a week ago for some unknown reason the color is green. I fought the monitor was gone and bought a new one. After connecting it the same problem persists. Does anyone know how to correct this problem?

Hello OliB67,
It may help to reset your Mac's NVRAM, as detailed in the article below.

Should your display still appear green, there may be an issue with the display cable or display adapter in use.

  • Monitor has weird, pixelated colors, but external monitor looks fine

I have a MacBook Pro. It is a couple of years old. Recently the monitor started fritzing out. At first it would happen only happen when I ran windows through boot camp. A couple of days later, it began happening in os x too.The screen seems to be operating on a reduced amount of colors, a preponderance of green and everything is pixelated. There are blobby shaped circles of rainbow all over the desktop. Windows on top of the desktop look better, but still way too green and pixelated. All parts of the screen are equally bad. I tried changing all the settings in display. Also ran disc utility. The display on the external monitor looks fine. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Some MBP have bad nVidea graphics chips that can do wheat you describe, except it usually affects an external monitor as well. It's covered by a warranty extension program here:

  • Thinkpad T60p with Win XP - Lost color on external monitor (only black & white)

Hi, I have a ThinkPad T60P, and a couple of weeks ago, I lost color on my external monitor (connected by VGA cable)
I have done a lot of testing, and found a couple of strange things around this:
    *  when using docking station with two monitors, only monitor nr "1" inCatalyst Control Center shows colors, but not "2".
    * When using external monitor (or projector) I don't get color
    * When showing video on the external monitor, color works(!) This is only on some type of videos, I think. Flash videos (ie. YouTube does not show colors)
    * When getting a bluescreen, the external monitor displays bluescreen with colors. When rebooting after bluescreen, colors were working while booting (windows logo with colors), but as soon as XP was up, colors were gone(!)
    * I have tried updating to the latest graphics driver (79d533ww.exe), and all the settings in Catalyst Control Center /  Control Panel
As a result of these findings, I beleive it must be a software problem, but since upgrading the drivers didn't work, I don't know what to try next.
I see also that there are other people experiencing the same problems, but I can't find any solution to this problem.

Cats seem to have a strong affinity for that display mode — remarkably often we hear that they've typed in the correct keystroke combo for it, and yet they never seem to set it back to normal after using the computer. Not very considerate, but you know cats: consideration isn't part of the package.

  • Colors on external monitor are all wrong

I have a hp 2710m that i bought to connect to my Macbook Aluminum 13". I have tried Apple color calibration and the colors are still not right. The reds are really really fake and bright especially and the image looks kinda flat. I am using HDMI to connect it.
Any recommendations for other ways to calibrate it? HP's sight isn't very helpful toward macs.
    Thanks.

If I hit to select all then the color reappears. I only noticed this start happening when Safari 4 came out of beta. I have tried resetting the PRAM with no luck.

  • Color shift in external monitor during playback

    Hello,
I've been having an issue recently with HD playback to my external monitor. This is happening both in 720 and 1080 timelines. When playback is stopped, the image color looks correct both on the Mac and on the external monitor. But when I play the timeline, there is a slight color shift in the external monitor towards green. This color shift does not happen on the mac monitor during playback. This happens with rendered media, as well as media direct from the clip that does not need rendering. Exported videos do not have this issue. Any idea what may be happening?
I have a Mac Pro, 2.66 Quad with 8GB Memory. With Kona3 card connected to a Panasonic BT-LH2600W HD monitor. Kona3 is connected to monitor via HD-SDI. With Final Cut Pro 6.06 and Mac OS 10.5.8.

Type of footage you are using? What sort of hard drives it is stored on? Those would be good details to have too.

  • Photoshop color problem on external monitor

I'm using MacBook w/ OS X Snow Leopard, NEC LCD2490 monitor attached, both displays calibrated.  I found at some point that colors in Photoshop were WAY off on the NEC.  Images looked "correct" in Lightroom on the NEC, but when opened in PS I had massive color shift and desaturation, e.g. purple flowers became dull gray-blue.  I could drag the same image to the laptop and it appeared "correct" in both LR and PS.  I checked color settings, etc. and couldn't find a problem, but presumably that would render the image incorrectly on both monitors.  Most significantly, the image appears "correct" even on the NEC monitor when the laptop display is off (clam shell mode).  Summary:  Dual monitors:  LR/PS correct on laptop display, LR correct on NEC but PS is WAY off.  Using external monitor only:  image displays correctly in both LR/PS.  I suspect this is a hardware/firmware/OS problem vs. PS.  Anybody else have this problem?

Snow Leopard has some known problems with color managing external monitors.  We've been looking into it and notified Apple (as have a few other color management experts).

  • Satellite A300-237 - Which external monitor?

    Hi,
I'd like to buy an external 19'' LCD monitor for my Toshiba Satellite A300-237. Which is the best: 4:3 / 16:9 / 16:10 / 5:4?
    Thanks

    Hello
What aspect ratio do you prefer?
You should buy a monitor with your favorite aspect ratio.
Generally speaking all external monitor works and according the user manual, your notebook supports up to 2048 horizontal and 1536 vertical pixels at up to 16M colors on external monitor.

  • Color Correction problems on external monitor

    Ok.
So, I am using some video filters to enhance the look of my video project. I am very happy with the way everything looks on my computer monitor.
However, when I play the video through my camcorder to my monitor, the color is WAY off and everything is flickering.
I tried playing the video out through external monitor with the filters turned OFF in FCP and everything looks fine.
I have played the same video out through monitor with one of the filters turned OFF while the others are still ON and the image looks fine. Here is the list of filters in order from top to bottom:
    RGB Balance
    HSV Adjust
    Vignette
It seems that the combination of these filters is causing a playback problem on my external monitor. This is an issue b/c I need to see how the color filters will look on my end project as it is played on a TV.
One other interesting wrinkle....the applied filters if left UN-RENDERED and in the green PREVIEW render state, will play through to the monitor fine.
I even tried to print the video to tape in an effort to then re-capture the video that would by my assumption be "off color" but this is what happened....
The video while being printed to tape looked awful on my camcorder monitor AND awful on my computer monitor as it was printing to tape. So, I then rewound the tape and attempted to RE-CAPTURE the video which I thought would now have the wrong colors. But, once the video was re-captured and I played it....it looked FINE on my computer monitor, but AWFUL on my camcorder monitor.
This was the same tape that I saw being recorded in the AWFUL color state yet, it was now playing back fine on my computer monitor.
    What is going on???
One last test on my own tonight. I am going to burn a DVD with this video. I assume that the video on the DVD when played back through my TV will look AWFUL however, If I preview the video on my computer monitor through iDVD it will look fine.
Does anyone have any idea what may be going on here?
    Thanks,
    Pete

    David,
I did a test. I burned a DVD of my video. And..the colors were off, the image was flickering...generally terrible.
But, then I paused the DVD and.....color was perfect!
    Just as I wanted.
So, there is something going on with the interlaced video fields on TV monitors maybe???
    I don't know.
But, the problem is definitely with the NTSC monitor side of things...but a problem generating from the use of thes filters in FCP.
    Still not solved.

  • Flashing white/green pixels on external monitor

Hello everyone, I just purchased a 15" MBP with the hi-res antiglare monitor. I upgraded from a black Macbook, which was connected to my 24" Samsung monitor with a Displayport to DVI adapter. When I bought the new MBP, I also bought a new miniDisplayport to DVI adapter. I just now hooked up my MBP with the new adapter to the Samsung monitor and there are/were two issues.
    1) When I imported my photos off of my DSLR camera, I noticed green flickering pixels stuck on the images. These pixels moved and flashed with the image, so I know they weren't dead. When viewing those images on my regular 15" MBP monitor, those pixels were not there. They were only on the external monitor. I thought this may be an issue with my DSLR/image import, but then I noticed random purple/green pixel artifacts on an ad on Facebook as well.
    2) I reset the NVRAM, flipped the DVI cord out and around, and reconnected it. Now, the green pixels do not seem to show up BUT there are now tons of tiny white pixels flashing across my entire screen. I disconnected/reconnected the display connector several times, and I was able to recreate #1 once. I haven't bena able to again.
I reconnected my old Macbook with the old adapter to the monitor and there were none of these issues.
What might be the problem? I can't capture the pixelation effect on screen capture.
    I'm thinking its either:
    An issue of Mountain Lion
    My Macbook Pro's software
    My Macbook Pro's hardware
    The miniDisplayport adapter.
    Thanks,
    -Max

Having the exact same issue. I'm getting the problem on my LG Flatron E2742 external display, from a Thunderbolt to HDMI out from my 2012 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.
The issue began yesterday when I connected my MBP to a HDMI Projector. I noticed, via the projected image, the beginning of the dancing white/green pixels. What's really weird is that when I connected my MBP back to my standard LG External display, the dancing white pixels were still there!
MAYBE it's something that happeend to my thunderbolt to HDMI cable in the process? Haven't experimented with another cable to confirm this. BUT, something tells me it's actually software related, because when I first plugged in my external display this morning, it began flickering/staticing/spazzing out like CRAZY. After some poking around and forums, I eventually changed my display color profile and it went back to normal, EXCEPT for the dancing white/green pixels.
Any words of wisdom out there about this situation would be much appreciated.

  • VGA external monitor shows yellow and green colour

I just took apart my T410s to change the screen hinges. I thought all had gone well but when I plug in an external monitor the colours don't display properly. The display is yellow and if you wiggle the cable it goes green. Could this have been something I did? It worked fine before.
Any ideas how to fix it?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi, arp1981
I have a question for clarification: Does this only occur on an external monitor, not the laptop's display itself? If so, then I would retrace your steps of replacing the hinges and make sure that all wires and devices are where they should be. Also, check the pins on the VGA cord and the VGA port itself and make sure nothing is bent.
    Best,
    Adam

  • Color Corrector's Frame Viewer Split Not Showing Up On External Monitor

    Kind've a long title - sorry - but . . . here's my question:
Why am I not able to see the Frame Viewer's split on my external monitor?
A further, more detailed explanation of the problem:
I recently purchased Ripple Training's Color Correction with Andrew Balis. It's very, very imformative and I think will help a lot when it comes time to begin color correcting the feature I'm working on. The section I'm on shows the Frame Viewer tab in the Tool Bench window that presents itself when one opens Color Correction under the Arrange area. In other words, Arrange>Color Correction sets up your windows for color correcting with your Viewer, Canvas, and Tool Bench windows aligned from left to right. When one opens up the 3 Way Color Corrector on a clip and makes a change in the clip, the Frame Viewer tab in the Tool Bench window will show a split screen where on one side you'll have your clip with the color correction you just did, and the other side un-color corrected. Isn't this (split) image supposed to show up in your external monitor just as the images in the Canvas and the Viewer?
That doesn't seem to be happening on my external monitor.
I'm not sure if this problem/issue I'm having is related to the muticlipl issue I posted in an earlier thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1330596&tstart=0
    perhaps.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Javier Calderon

Ahhh, Shane. So it's as simple as that? So then there's nothing wrong with my setup or my external monitor? FCP's just not designed to show the Tool Bench's Frame Viewer image in your external monitor? Wow . . . Well that answers that then I guess. And you're right . . . that IS indeed kind've lame . . .
    Thanks.
    Javier
. . . um . . . doesn't that kind've defeat the purpose of proper color correction then (regarding the Tool Bench's Frame Viewer anyway)? If the only place you can see your color corrected Frame Viewer split images is on a monitor that's NOT suited for color correction? Anyway . . . just a thought . . .

  • T500 with External Monitor Seems to Be in 8 bit Color

I got a T500 for work running Windows 7 x64. I hooked up the computer to an external monitor via the VGA port (I've connected directly to the laptop and also through the Thinkpad dock).
Despite my best efforts the external monitor seems to render in 8 bit color mode (or maybe 16 but definitely not 32 bit). You can tell by lack of color in the gradients. Things I've tried.
    Updating the video drivers
Using the IBM monitor tool to set it to 32 bit
Setting it to 32 bit in the Windows settings

Just to close the loop on this, I've determined that the cause of my issue is the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework software/driver. I've disabled in the BIOS for now, and the machine is working very well. Will look for an update from Lenovo to address more definitively.

  • Portege R700 - External monitor color is purple

The external monitor is with the main colour purple.
The labtop detects the monitor right and all works well, but there is since today a main colour purple over all.
Its the same wth a beamer!

    How about the internal display?
Does the purple color appear on internal monitor too?
In case the internal monitor is OK, the graphic chip should be also OK and in such case I think the video out port (RGB / HDMI) or the cable connecting both devices could be affected.
In case the purple color would appear on internal display too, then the GPU (graphic chip) could malfunctions.
PS: what notebook model do you have excatly and how did you connect the external monitor/beamer to the notebook?
