Color on PSE 12 OK / On PSE 13 BAD

I recently purchased PSE 13 hoping it was an improvement--it isn't!  Please look at the following:
The PSE 12 scan can be changed/lightened, etc. until it looks like white paper, with no problem. The PSE scan, no matter what I do, continued to have an orange cast.
I am using PC with Win7 and a CanoScan LiDE 210.  Both scans were WIA.  Any ideas of what is wrong?  Even more, any ideas as to how to correct?
Thanks, Jim W

Hi,
I have a Windows 7 64bit system with a LiDE 210 scanner. I have tried to do a comparison between a PSE 12 scan and a PSE 13 scan and I can't see any difference. I think you tried to show an example but that image didn't get through. You need to use a browser to upload the image using the small camera icon in the message reply header.
I opened both scanned images in CC PS 2014 and I could see any shift in the histogram when switching between the two.
Are you scanning using the organizer or the editor - or do both show the cast?
When I go to scan, I initially get four options - Color Picture, Grayscale picture, B & W or Custom - which are you using?
Do you see the cast when viewed with other programs?

  • Can't replace color in PSE 9

I am trying to replace one color with another in a photo in PSE 9. Following the instructions in the on-line help does not work. Here is what I do.
    1) Select the eye dropper and click in the image to set the foreground color to the replacement color.
    2) Right click on the brush tool and choose the color replacement tool. Set the options to Mode=Color, Limits=Discontiguous, Tolerance=25%, Anti-alias=On.
    3) Left click on the color in the photo that I want to replace.
    4) Hold down the left mouse button and drag over the area containing the color I want to replace. Nothing happens when I do this.
In the photos in the Replace Colors in an Image help topic it appears that at some point in the process the cursor should change to include an eye dropper. I assume this is the cursor I should see before I left click to select the color I wish to replace, however, at no time does the cursor ever contain an eye dropper.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

How are you trying to save? Works for me.
    Edit à Contact Book
    Add New
Enter details e.g. Name and email address
    Click OK and close
Then click Edit à Contact Book and your new name should be in the list.

  • Bad color in PSE working window

When I bring up an image to edit in PSE it's always dark and off toward the red or orange.  But, when Iook at that same inage file with another inage viewing program, then the colors look alright.  Can someone tell me how to fix this?
I have attatched a screen grab that contains a portion of an image in PSE and a portion in Windows Picture and Fax viewer.  The color looks more normal in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
Any words of wisdom on this?

It's most likely that your color-rendering issue is caused by a defective color profile; Samsung is one of several display vendors that install bad profiles.  Windows can sometimes balk at letting your remove the display profile, and it's easy to make a mistake following the instructions for removal.
I recommend not setting PSE to No Color Management -- this strips the color profile from your photos when you save them.  The color profile (usually sRGB) tells programs and printers how to interpret the color numbers in a photo; but when you remove the profile, they have to make a guess as to how to interpret the colors, and they can guess wrong.
By default, most Windows programs and printers will use ("assume") sRGB for images that don't have a profile.  So if you set PSE to No Color Management, you may never experience a problem with misinterpretation of colors in your photos.  However, Mac OS 10 does not assume that images without a profile are sRGB -- so it's entirely likely that your edited images will display incorrectly on Macs.
Further, if someone sends you images tagged with the Adobe RGB profile, PSE set to No Color Management will very likely not display them properly.  (With the advent of raw, it seems that fewer people are taking pics with their camera set to Adobe RGB, but there are still posts on the forum from people using Adobe RGB.)

  • Help required for the screen color of PSE 7

I think I posted my original question in the wrong forum. opps sorry about that.
I wonder if anyone can help me please. I used to have PSE 2 and the screen was a blue and beige color and could be seen quite good.see attachment.
I now have PSE 7 and the screen background is a horrible brownish color. see attachment.
I am partially blind and have trouble with the PSE 7 screen.  Can it be changed to the same as PSE 2??
Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kindest regards
    Dede
PS I hope they got attached. not sure if I did it correctly??

Hi, Dede - just come on to the Forum site!  I've been moaning ever since I downloaded PSE6 (an upgrade from the 4), as I was quite shocked to find it is an even worse colour than appears in your attachment for the 7.  The 6 is black with the drop down menus being black and the writing/illustrations on the drop down menus black as well!  Unlike you, I can see well and even I can't see a thing!  The worst is the clone/brushes palette and the size slider.  Coupled with that, they've gone and moved lots of features around, so you can't find them where they were in the 4!  I've sent emails to Adobe to ask if the background colour can be changed - and their response was "no"!  I've been scouring the internet trying to find forums to ask help from, and it seems that there are lots of complaints over the 6. Heaven alone knows who designs these things but obviously someone who never uses it!!  My advice to you is to get a 4 - which has a clear screen and clear headings and menus - it doesn't have curves, et al, but it much more user friendly.  Hope this helps.

  • Changing Colors with PSE 3

If you want to change a color of a stripe...say pink, light green, light blue to a totally diferent color scheme can it be done??? I know that you can use the hue sat. and slider but all that does is change the hue of the existing background. I'm doing digital scrapbooking and want to pick up exact color from a photo..I know you use the eyedropper..Is there a way to incorporate that color in a multi background.
Also is change to target an option in PSE 3?? I know it is in Photoshop. Someone had suggested I try it. Not even sure as to how to use it.

    Terri,
Here are 2 ways to change color.
    Using Hue/Saturation:
    1. Select the area you want to change.
    2. Enhance>Adjust Color>Hue/Saturation
    3. In the Hue/Saturation dialog box, adjust the Hue slider.
Optionally adjust the Saturation and Lightness sliders.
Note: Instead of step 2, you can add a Hue/Satuation adjustment layer. This will enable you to go back later and make further adjustments.
    Using Replace Color:
    1. Enhance>Adjust Color>Replace Color.
    2. In the Replace Color dialog box, use the Eyedropper to select the old color in the image (this color will appear in the Sample box).
You can also sample with the Eyedropper before invoking Replace Color, in case you want to sample from another image first.
    3. Move the Fuzziness slider until only the old color area is white.
    4. Adjust the Hue slider to get the new color.
Optionally adjust the Saturation and Lightness sliders.
Note: Prior to step 1 you might want to roughly select the area to change so that you don't change other areas in step 4. e.g., if you just want to change the red balloon you don't want to also change the red dress!

  • Preferred Color Management PSE 6

In setting up my printing preferences I am a little confused on which way to go. I have a Canon Pro 9000 printer and I am running PSE6 using Windows XP. Is it best to let Elements handle all of the color management or should I print using the printer set up preferences? I have printed both ways and one thing I have noticed is that letting Elements handle everything my prints are less saturated. I am shooting in Adobe RGB1998 and my software is set to the same as well. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Tim

It's a bit confusing when first starting out.
D=default, which is black for foreground and white for background color
You can toggle between these by pressing X
You can select any color, of course. If you select blue for the foreground color, you would still have white for the background color. You can elect to change the background color as well.
The brush tool uses the foreground color.

  • My imported photos from PSE look bad.

When I go to import and look at my photos (previously edited in PSE9 and saved as a jpg on an external hard drive) they look great. But when I import them some of the photos look weird - too bright usually or the colour has gone all funny. I've deleted them out of LR and then tried importing them but it happens again. Only on a certain few. They are jpgs.
What is happening? In finder on the mac they look normal too. under Import on LR4 they look normal. It's just once they are imported.
    Thanks.

What are the settings on the sliders in Basic in the Develop Module? If they are off Zero you have something happening.
Check that the Autotone box in Preferences isn't checked too!

  • Colorized video during import - Appears to be a bad video signal

I went to import about 15 minutes of new footage today and the clips being import are all distorted. It's hard to explain, but it looks as though they're colorized or cartoon looking. Not at all real color tones. And there are horizontal lines through the video.
I've imported previous footage fine before. The only thing new is the new OS, 10.5. Prior to this I've been able to import perfect video and had no problems. I'm using a HDTV camcorder (Canon HV20).
Has anyone experienced this or know what is causing it?
    Thanks, Brien

The problem was I was using the previous version of iMovie (5.0.2) and not the latest 6.0.4. Apparently when I download the newer version the installer created a folder called previous version but put the newer version in that folder. So I thought I was using the latest version only to come to find out it was launching the previous version loose in my Applications folder. Obviously a technical glich from Apple that will probably effect a lot of other people over time until they realize this.

  • Luminosity and saturation blending modes in FW CS4 differ from their equivalents in PSE 7

    Example:
Upper bitmap is filled with RGB(232,168,89) color and the lower with RGB(61,114,158) .
    Blending results are as follow:
    Luminosity in FW CS4: RGB(67,121,175)
    Luminosity in PSE 7: RGB(137,190,234)
    Saturation in FW CS4: RGB(60,109,158)
    Saturation in PSE 7: RGB(41,119,184)
I think PSE uses chroma as saturation and luma Y' 601 with gamma compression (2.2 or 1.8) as luminosity.
So it's compatible with PS. And what about FW. Does somebody know how FW works. I was experimenting with
HLS and HSV and wasn't able to find it out. Maybe FW's modes are better in some web cases, I don't know.

What happens to your blended colors in PSE if you turn off the color profiles?
Fireworks is intended to produce graphics for display in Web applications, which have only recently begun to support color profiles. Even then, you don't want to use them on your page graphics (like nav buttons), because the profiles won't apply to HTML/CSS colors and you'll get mismatches.
PS is primarily intended for photographs and for printing, and so the standard workflow in PS (and I suspect also PSE) is to apply at least a default color profile. One use of color profiles is to correct the colors for printers, but profiles will also change the colors in images.

  • How to update PSe 10 to camera raw 7.3

How does one update pse 10 to use camera raw 7.3?

Unfortunately, you don't. PSE 10 can't use any version of ACR 7. You can either use the software that came with the camera, upgrade to PSE 11 (bad move this time of year, usually), or download the free adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to dng files that your version of ACR can read.

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

Is there a way to manipulate the colors through PSE to make them look vintage or retro.

    HELP!
    --emily

    Hi Emily,
I would rather suggest you to use adjustment layer to accomplish this task because that way you'll be doing a non-destructive editing to your image. Whereas if you use Enhance menu commands on your image, your image pixels will be permanently damaged (altered).
To create an adjustment layer, press the adjustment layer icon in the layers panel. In the adjustment layer dropdown menu, you may choose to select photo filter or solid color. After you apply the adjustment, play around with the opacity slider and layer belnding modes to achieve the desired result.
Also if you're using PSE8, you can also explore the smart brush presets and then further adjust opacity.
    Hope that helps.
    Cheers

Andy- I too just got the Pro9000 and can't seem to get the correct colors through PSE. I do my color or bW printing from the Easy Print Pro which comes with the printer. In order to access it, because it was intended as a plug in for Photoshop CS, I go through Digital Photo Professional, which came with my Canon Rebel. - see the old topic Color Management Again

  • Elements 9 - How can I customize the look and color of the organizer and edit screens?

    Re: Elements 9 -
How can I customize the look and color of the organizer and edit screens?
I recall doing it initially but can't find any place to redo it.

Unless you did it in pse7 or pse 8, then you really can't change the interface colors in pse 9 or pse 10.
The only color you can easily change in the interface of the editor is the padding color around the document by right clicking outside the document bounds.

  • Color matching: iWeb '09 and Keynote '09

I need a little help. I am planning to use a movie of a Keynote '09 presentation on my iWeb '09 website. In both Keynote and iWeb I have specified the same exact background colors using the same three (identical) RGB values. However, the colors are not the same when I import the movie into iWeb.
I need the colors to match exactly. Any suggestions re: what I may be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    -AstraPoint

In System Preferences, under Display and under Color, what is your Display profile set for? I've been dealing with an inconsistency between iWeb and Keynote for awhile, and this MAY be able to help you. I've found that, if I set my profile to Gamma 2.2 or sRGB before opening iWeb, the colors between the two end up being a LOT closer, almost exact. The screen looks odd at sRGB, not so much at Gamma 2.2, so you may want to change it back after all your Publishing activities are done.
This page is a good example if the results.
    http://www.makentosh.com/tipsfromtheiceberg/Blog/Entries/2008/7/20Clip_a_little_Web_foryou.html
I created the logo in another app and brought it into Keynote as a .pdf. I picked the color of the medium shade of red for the banner in the back. If my profile is set as normal, when I copy this over to iWeb and publish, the red banner in the back is off. If I change my profile, THEN open iWeb and publish, everything looks like you see it. It has something to do with how iWeb is treating colors and how it creates the images required for display, but this may help.
NOW, to throw ANOTHER wrench into things, I found that this COULD be affected by the browser and it's ability to render colors properly as well! While it looked bad on a Mac, it looked fine on a PC, now, it looks better on both, but that may be something else you'll want to take a look at when trying to troubleshoot the issue.
