Color PDFs only print in Greyscale

I'm having trouble getting colour PDFs to print correctly. No matter what printer settings I use I only get a greyscale rendering on the printer. It looks fine on screen. Other apps print in color on the printer OK. I'm not sure when this problem occurred, it worked OK with previous versions of Adobe Reader up to about 3 months ago.
System here is: Windows XP SP3, Adobe Reader 11.0.3, Canon MG3150 Inkjet multifunction device.

No, I made sure that all boxes for grayscale were unchecked. Checked or unchecked it prints the same.

  • PDFs only print "high quality"

I have an HP Deskjet D4260. For some reason in both Preview and in Skim, the dialog box only lets me pick "photo paper" as my paper, and I can print in grayscale, but not "black cartridge only" (from advanced option). When my color ink was low I noticed that my text would print in magenta - but I'd like to save my color and only print black.
This works perfectly find in any other program including TextEdit and MS Office programs - I can select normal "HP white paper" and "print only with black cartridge".
Anyone know why i can't do normal printing from PDFs?

  • Epson R1900 Color Issues Only Printing From Lightroom

Hi all - my first post here thought I've been reading this forum since I purchased 1.1 a while back. I'm using 1.4.1 with XP Home, service pack 3. I've had very few issues with this release (which is why I haven't jumped to 2.X yet). To date, I've occasionally printed snapshots with an HP 1115, but most printing has been through labs.
I recently purchased an Epson R1900 and I've been unable to get colors to print remotely correct through Lightroom. It looks to me like the color is getting managed twice, regardless of the settings I use. The R1900 driver allows a preview before actually printing, and the colors it shows are always off by a lot, regardless of whether I let Lightroom manage color or the printer.
Other less sophisticated programs do not have this problem. I can print a JPEG image through Windows Photo Printing Wizard or a pdf through Adobe Reader with much closer correlation to the monitor. Prints from the HP 1115 are comparatively much lower quality, but through Lightroom or other applications, color is within reason. I'm assuming there are others that are successfully using this printer with Lightroom running on Windows XP. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I solved my color problem by updating the printer driver to version 6.60. When I discovered that a newer driver was available I had attempted to update it but it would not install correctly. I contacted Epson for help, but only received links to non-relevant information. I eventually determined that using MSCONFIG to keep all nonessential programs from starting would allow the driver to correctly install. Simply shutting down all user launched programs and my virus software was insufficient.
Prints are definitely on the dark side, but I've been able to compensate as Dan has suggested. Otherwise, I am quite pleased with the prints it produces on Epson Premium Glossy, and am looking forward to experimenting with other papers and ICC profiles. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

  • Print in PDF only Prints the first two pages

I am have been ahving problems with my creat PDF account, only printing the first two pages, when i print something to PDF from a webpage.  I.E. Pinterest.  It will only print the first two pages and the rest will be blank or incomplete.  I am at the end of my rope and dont know how to fix it.  I recently got Acrobat 9 standard thinking this may help, but the problem still exists, which irritates me more.  Please help!

  • Pdf only prints 1 page

I have one user on windows 7 with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 and when he tries to print any .pdf file it will only print 1 copy.  No matter how he attempts it only one copy will print.  We tried a 12 page document, choose page 3 only and 4 copies - nope only 1 copy will print.
    Any ideas?

We ran the repair Adobe Installation and found that it is the collate button that is causing the problem.  If we have a multi-page document and the collate button checked it will only print one copy. If we uncheck the collate button on a multi-page document it will print multiple copies.  However if it is a one page document it will only print one copy with or without the collate button checked.  It doesn't seem to matter where the document is located either if it is one from a web page or one save to the hard drive.  And it does it with every pdf.

  • Getting a web based colour PDF to print in greyscale

Not sure if this is something that would be done in Indesign at export stage or if it's something for Acrobat......
This is a question for PDFs to be used on the web for when Internet users want to print that PDF....
Is it possible [other than changing pc print settings at the print stage] to force a PDF document, that is in colour, to print in 'black and white' and only print in colour if this setting is overridden?
    Any help much appreciated.

Yes it's up to whoever downloads it to make the call on how they print it and what settings to use, in my opinion.
If it is a problem with click charges as suggested, then that company needs to set protocols. Our companies IT department went around each computer setting the default print settings to Grayscale for everyone.
The option is on most print devices to print Grayscale, requesting that the PDF prints grayscale but is viewed full colour is a crazy concept.
As I said at first, the PDF is a final file format. It's either colour or it's grayscale. It can't be both.
If it was grayscale then you couldn't print is a colour because the colour isn't there to print, there's no info there for the printer to print.
But a colour page can be printed as grayscale, as most print devices come with this option.
So basically, you can have a colour pdf or a black and white pdf. Not both.

  • HP Deskjet D4160 only prints in greyscale - no color

I found a 'closed' string on a related topic: same printer, same issue, but using Airport. The consensus solution, if you could call it that, was plugging the printer directly into the computer's (MacBook in my case) USB. Unfortunately, I am plugged into USB.
Doesn't print in color, just greyscale and really dark, murky grayscale at that. Think photocopying a color picture on the black and white copier at your school library and you get the idea. Both cartridges are brand new, so's the printer, everything's fresh out of the box.
When I go to print, I get a dialogue box saying either HP Print Utility or HP Supplies Utility has unexpectedly quit, and it keeps coming back unless I click ignore or cancel.
I didn't realise the D4100 series driver shipped with Leopard, didn't even think about it, and ran the enclosed install disk. Could that have screwed things up?
I see in the forum there are lots of issues with printer drivers and OS updates. I'm not even sure which version of Leopard I'm running right now. (I'm at work and my book's at home)
Going to see if HP has an updated driver package, but any other suggestions are welcome!

    Hello javinger,
Follow the steps in this document to clean the cartridge and carriage:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01154398&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=467982&
When cleaning the carriage take the time to check and make sure that it's not damaged. If it's not, then replace the black cartridge but if the carriage is damaged then as I see it you have three options: continue using the printer with only the colour cartridge; call the support and see if you can purchase an out of warranty repair/replacement of your printer; purchase a new printer.
I hope you'll be able to fix the printer though.

  • Color Cartridge only prints for some applications -- HP Deskjet 5740

My color cartridge still has half its ink left.  It prints fine for the charts and graphs of SPSS (statistical processing software).  However, it will not print in color at all for Word, or from AOL pages.  What could cause this?
I have already ran all the maintenence routines, like cleaning and such.  On the test page, those fruits come out somewhat greenish, but mostly black and white.  But then my SPSS charts have rich color.  This is baffling.

  • Can't get a color logo to print in color

PostScript newbie here... I have two issues with a postscript image I'm trying to print.
I have a green logo .eps file that I print to an HP color laserjet printer via a Linux server, but the logo only prints in greyscale.  I have reviewed the image code, and tweaked the code to specify color (e.g. changed the "image" command to "colorimage"), to no avail.  Can anyone assist me in getting a color printout?  Here's the main part of the code (specific image bits removed):
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
    %%TemplateBox:0 0 188 78
    %%BoundingBox: 0 0 235 97
    %%PageOrigin:0 0
    /width 188 def
    /height 78 def
    /pixwidth 235 def
    /pixheight 97 def
    /picstr width string def
    /dopic {
    gsave
    width height 8
    [width 0 0 height neg 0 height]
    {currentfile picstr readhexstring pop}
    image
    grestore
    } def
    pixwidth pixheight scale
    dopic
    (image bits here)
    %%Trailer
    showpage
The second issue is that I can't get the image to embed in another page - that is, when I call the image to print in a C program, the printer spits out the logo on a separate page.  The goal here is to embed a color logo (the .eps file) into a certificate, where the rest of the certificate contents are generated by PCL commands.  I've been able to embed a PCL image (too much aliasing) and an HPGL image (plotter print dulls sharp corners), but the .eps file doesn't want to play on the same page as the certificate.  Any ideas?
    Any help is appreciated!
    - Bry

I found a resolution for the color issue.  As I mentioned before, I am trying to print an .eps image - out of frustration, I converted the image to .ps on the off chance that the printer would read the image differently.  Sure enough, the printer liked the .ps format and printed a color image.  Go figure.
Still can't get the logo to print in the body of the certificate, though.  I removed the showpage command from the end of the file and tried to reprint, but that just prevented the image from printing at all.  Some PostScript code investigation suggested that replacing showpage with the command show might do the trick - but no luck.
Still digging - I'll post the solution if and when I find it.  And as always, if you have other suggestions please post them.

  • How to export a CMYK document to a black/white or greyscale pdf for print?

Hello, I have some knowledge in graphics design, but very little about color management.
Currently I need to convert an instruction manual I made to black and white output only. We'd prefer to keep the indesign (.indd) and it's source images in their respective colors, but when exporting the document to a pdf my printer can use, we'd like to make that document a black and white pdf, as it's a black/white manual anyway. A little color conversion isn't to bad, as long as it's reasonable. all images that might give trouble are in greyscale anyway.
So how do I export a full color indesign document to a black&white/greyscale pdf?
    ps:
very newb question, but if you don't ask, you never learn:
When do you use the colours "registration", and when do you use "paper"?

I am also trying desperately to convert my CMYK colors into a grayscale so that when I print the document the printer only uses K (and C=0 M=0 Y=0)
And I saw this bit of info you wrote a few months ago. I am working working with photoshop CS4. I tried to follow it but I found the following difficulties. Hope you don't mind me writing over your text.
    RGB image --> Grayscale
New doc --> CMYK image, same size, empty
Copy Grayscale and paste into the K-channel of the CMYK image. - (It only allows me to copy onto the CMYK layer but not onto the Black so I had to Drag layer onto channel delete the black layer and rename my new layer as black but then the document changes from CMYK to Multichannel and I have to re-change the mode again to CMYK but this already prints CMYK...)
    Place image in InDesign doc.
Everything else (vector, text) by K-only.
(...then when I placet that CMYK file into InDesign, and PDF it, on the output preview still separates the grayscale image into CMYK and when I print, the printer still prints CMYK instead of only K)
So then I say OK so.. let's use the Multichannel document instead, which it actually seems to print on K only (while CMY=0), it only allows me to save as PSD. and when I try to place it on Indesign... I have a message saying that this file is using an unsupported colour space, only RGB,CMYK, lab, indexed, and bitmap are supported by the photoshop filter
On top of that I have been asked for a Jpeg image in black and white which prints only K (while CMY=0). I have tried with channel mixed presets and even though the info on screen is now C=0, M=0, Y=0 and K= various values, when I send it to print. The printer still prints with all the CMYK colours
Any advice would be so much appreciated!
    Thank you

  • Deskjet 3050 does only print JPG files in color - all other docs are only printed in black and white

    Dear All,
I have a problem with my Deskjet 3050 Printer. (USB connected with my laptop).
My printer won't print colored documents in color but only in black and white (except for JPG files (photos) which are printed in color.
Word documents or PDF files (for example) are always printed in black and white - even if these are in color.
Copying colored pages with my printer is no problem.
This works perfectly well. The printer is connected to my PC via USB.
The cartridges (color and black and white) are practically new and original HP cartridges.
Could the problem be related to the printer settings which I might have changed by accident.
Thanks in advance for your advise.

  • Convert 4-color pdf to greyscale

I have a four-color pdf that I need to convert to greyscale. The pdf now is CMYK set for Press Quality. What are the best settings for high quality greyscale output in Advanced - Print Production - Convert Colors. I am using Acrobat Professional 8.0. Thanks

As I said, I have not had much success that way either. Pro had the preflight conversion to Grayscale. Since you have Std, you may have to simply use separate graphic tools to convert to Grayscale and then recreate the PDF. If it is a scanned PDF, then you could simply save to a TIFF, use a graphic package to convert to grayscale (I use Irfanview for this type of simple task) and then move the TIFFs back into a PDF. If you have a mix of graphics and text, you may have to deal with a bit more. If the print converts the text, but not the graphics, you might try extracting the graphics (bitmaps I hope) under the tools menu. Convert those graphics to grayscale and then replace the color images with the new ones. (work on a copy of your PDF just in case something does not work)

  • Color PDFs print all red

I am using Acrobat 8 Standard edition on Vista, and every time I attempt to print a color file on an HP Color Laserjet printer, it prints all red. The printer's installed correctly, attached via USB, and prints fine from other applications. It's only PDFs and text prints black and the only color that will print other than black is red. Can someone help please???

i They used to. All the smart support people were laid off last year.
    Oi, that's only half true.
Marc, if it's only happening with one file it could be something in the PDF, but first i would see if you can print as image.

  • Strange PDF files printing inverted colors!?

I help support an office with several macs. Two of my remote office computers have an odd problem. In Apple Preview PDF files print inverted colors. If I open the PDF in Adobe reader they print normal. They are both trying to print to Samsung ML320 printers. I have yet to find any settings in Preview or in the printer setup that would allow this to happen. For now my fix is to set Adobe reader as the default application for viewing PDF files. Worked until one employee (also running Mac) sent the remote offices a PDF file attached in Apple Mail. Somehow ONLY PDF files from this person force default to Apple Preview. How can a file override system settings to choose it's default app? Strange and again only files coming for this particular mac force a default to Preview app. So it seems these two problems combined are making things difficult here. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    A.J.

I am still having this issue on a users machine. It is to the point where I may just reimage the whole laptop. The end user went to print a two page PDF from Apple Preview the other day and the first page was inverted and the second was not! How is this possible? The PDF is fine when printed from other machines and again only Apple Preview does this. I can use Adobe PDF reader and it prints normal.
