Color picker from swatches choosing random color (Illustrator CC 2014)...

When I select a color from swatches, and use the color picker (i.e. double click fill color) for shades and whatnot, it initially shows a random color... anyone else getting this? Every single time you open the color picker it never stays at the current fill color... ugh. Now, if I pick a color from a Kuler swatch, it shows properly.

I figured out a quick workaround to this that at least lets you continue on. When you select the object the color of which you want to know, the color picker dialog window opens. You'll see the false swatch color on the top (in this case the green) and the true color on the bottom (in this case the orange). Double click the orange color field. This will make both orange, and display the true values.
Note that, unless you change some value, when you repeat this, it will still display the green.

    How can there be a value in Fireworks.  When will this be fixed, cause lets face it, the world is about color?

    Does your image have an adjustment layer or a layer mask
    on the layer that is active when using the color picker?
    If you have an adjustment layer, make another layer active
    and see what happens.
    If the layer that is active has a layer mask, click on image

  • Apple Color Picker Erase Swatch function no longer works.

    It was always possible to erase one of the swatches in the ubiquitous Apple Color Picker by dragging a white square over the swatch square you wanted to erase. Now that function doesn't work anymore. Very odd. You can add new colors as always, you just can't erase them. In any application where I use the Color Picker this function no longer works. For example Pixelmator, Rapidweaver, etc.
    Any ideas?

    Sorry, I read too much into it. I guess I couldn't imagine it was just scrolling. I was thinking you were talking about going from page to page with a swipe gesture.
    Given that, their software is either broken or something is interfering. Any other programs have a problem with two-finger scrolling?

  • Color Picker won't change the color properly?

    Hi guys,
    I have a weird issue with the color. When I changed the color from dark green to bright lime green on Color Picker. The Color Picker show the specific color I want and then I click "OK". It did not change the dark green to bright lime green... instead it show the dull green color. It is really bugging me because I can't figured it what wrong with it. I checked the Color Mode (RGB mode) and Color Setting... everything seems to be right to me.
    Here is the quick screenshot:
    I also tested with other color, it still have the same problem. They won't show the bright color, it show the dull color instead.
    I hope you guys can help me out!
    Thanks,
    Christie

    OK, a few more thought on this.
    Here's what I did and everyone can check for themselves. I made a screen capture of the Color picker and paste it in a RGB and also a CMYK document as shown on the images below. In the CMYK document this converts the RGB color values of the screen capture into the CMYK color space of the document and the colors in the palette are displayed within the document's gamut. If you take the eyedropper and click on any color of the palette on the image you will never get out of gamut colors and this is how they should be displayed in the real Color Picker. The Color picker can still display in a little box out of gamut color if they are selected numerically using the RGB or HSB models but the point is that the display of the palette should be converted to a CMYK color space.
    In the RGB document on the second image, like in the real picker, clicking on the palette with the eyedropper will give a lot of out of gamut colors.
    Now thinking about out of gamut colors. Illustrator decides what is out of gamut colors by comparing the color space of a CMYK document to the working RGB  color space set in the Color Settings and for an RGB document to the  working CMYK space in the Color Settings. But this is not practical all the time because it is one way only from RGB to CMYK and can not be set from CMYK to RGB, RGB to RGB, and CMYK to CMYK.
    CMYK to RGB example: you may have a  document with U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space and one of its destinations is an sRGB color space. Because you can't set CMYK to RGB for out of gamut consideration, Illustrator will consider out of gamut all sRGB colors that are outside the U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space. But in this case your destination is sRGB and all colors from the sRGB color space should be presented in gamut and there is actually a small part of the U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 colors that are outside of the sRGB color space and only these colors should be shown as out of gamut.
    RGB to RGB example: your document is set in Adobe RGB color space because it will be eventually printed to several RGB printers some of which may have narrower gamut than the document. Then you want to set Illustrator to display out of gamut only the colors in the Adobe RGB color space that the RGB printer can't print, but unfortunately this is not possible even if you have the color profile of the printer.
    CMYK to CMYK example: you may have a  document with U.S Web Coated (SWOP) v2 color space but one of its destinations is U.S Web Uncoated v2, or US Newsprint, again not possible.
    So, in all these examples, the out of gamut colors Illustrator gives in the Color picker and panel are completely useless. Of course the major tool for these tasks remains the soft proofing which is working properly but why not make the out of gamut colors in the Color picker and panel work better and make more sense.

  • In the Color picker, the selection in the color palette is different than preview.

    Working in Illustrator CS5 on a Mac. When choosing a color in the palette, the preview showing up is different than what is in the palette. If I hit "OK" the actual color chosen is the one in the palette, not the preview window... Including some pics for reference.
    In my 10+ years of using Illustrator, i have never seen this.
    I am using a Dell monitor on a mac... not sure if that would make a difference.

    The new/old color preview box is not color managed and thus not reliable. I think that's the way it has always been. It will be the same as the selected color if you assign to your document the color space of your monitor using Edit > Assign Profile. People without a custom monitor color profile by default will not encounter this problem - they always see the colors wrong but consistent. Once you have a custom made monitor color profile you will see a difference between the same color in color managed and non-color managed software and sometimes parts of the same program like Illustrator can be color and non-color managed.

  • Changing color from Swatch to Spot color

    Hello,
    I have almsot figured this out but have on hangup.  I am trying to replace a color with another color from a Pantone library. I am using Illustrator CS6.
    I have this script which I found on here:
    #target illustrator
    var docRef = app.activeDocument;
    with (docRef) {
    var replaceColor = swatches.getByName('Pantone 152 C').color;
    for (var i = 0; i < pathItems.length; i++) {
    with (pathItems[i]) {
    if (filled == true && fillColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (fillColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') fillColor = replaceColor;
    for (var j = 0; j < stories.length; j++) {
    with (stories[j]) {
    for (var k = 0; k < characters.length; k++) {
    with (characters[k].characterAttributes) {
    if (fillColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (fillColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') fillColor = replaceColor;
    if (strokeColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (strokeColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') strokeColor = replaceColor;
    Which works,  but only if the new PMS color is added to the swatch list.  It seems I cannot get the swatch in the list easily using a script(which I have no experience with) or using an action.  Nor can I change the name after var replacecolor as it seems to only look for the swatch panel and not the color group or color book panel
    Any suggestions would be helpful, I am looking at having to change 30,000 files.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Sure,
    #1
    #target illustrator
    var docRef = app.activeDocument;
    with (docRef) {
    var replaceColor = swatches.getByName('Pantone 152C').color;
    for (var i = 0; i < pathItems.length; i++) {
    with (pathItems[i]) {
    if (filled == true && fillColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (fillColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') fillColor = replaceColor;

    if (fillColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') fillColor = replaceColor;
    if (strokeColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (strokeColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') strokeColor = replaceColor;
    #2
    #target illustrator
    var docRef = app.activeDocument;
    var swatches = docRef.swatches;
    try {
         var replaceColor = swatches.getByName('Pantone 152C').color;
    catch (err){
         var replaceColor = docRef.spots.add();
         replaceColorColor = new CMYKColor();
         replaceColorColor.cyan = 4.84;
         replaceColorColor.magenta = 66.58;
         replaceColorColor.yellow = 100;
         replaceColorColor.black = 0.21;
         replaceColor.name = 'Pantone 152C';
         replaceColor.color = replaceColorColor;
         replaceColor.colorType = ColorModel.SPOT;
         replaceColor.tint = 100;
    Here is the actions set up:
    The 2 actions are the scripts, the export is after saving the eps.

  • My color picker has stopped working

    Basically my color picker will not choose a color anymore.  I'm not sure why.  Please give me some ideas on how to make it work again.

    Which version of PSE?
    If PSE 11 or higher, go to the editor preferences>general and click this button, then restart the editor:
    for older versions, restart the editor while holding ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Disable Color Picker

    Is there a way to disable the color picker from appearing when a color control is clicked on? I have a two demensional array of color controls. I want to use event driven code rather than having the color picker / palette appearing.

    You should use the 'Mouse down?' filter event in your event structure and connect a boolean TRUE to the 'Discard?' terminal.
    I attach an example where the color picker dialog is disabled on mouse click and a beep is produced instead.

  • Illustrator color picker

    I'm using Qt for our plugin, and the plugin dialog is modal to Illustrator.  However, when I display Illustrator's color picker (using the AIPaintStyle suite), the color picker is not modal to the plugin dialog it was launched from, but is instead modal to Illustrator.  There is no way to explicitely set a parent/child relationship between the plugin dialog and the color picker.
    So at this point, Illustrator has two modal dialogs open, which is obviously not the desired behavior.  The user is able to interact with the plugin dialog while the color picker dialog is open.
    Is there a way to correctly launch an Illustrator modal dialog from a Qt plugin with the correct parent/child relationship?

    I can't post the code, but since we use the Colour Picker & Qt we've run into this exact problem The gist of the fix (somewhat crappy as it is) is this:
    Create a QWidget parented off the current Qt modal dialog (mark it as a modal dialog). This will make Qt disable everything that should be disabled, giving you normal modal-like behaviour. You'll probably need to play with the geometry so you can't see it. Don't forget to show() it -- not exec()! -- when you're done ; I believe that's what triggers the disabling you want.
    Setup some kind of watch to catch when the Colour Picker closes.For the latter, we use hooks for Windows and a timer for Mac. In both cases, you're basically looking for the OS 'window destroyed' message, and assuming that's the Colour Picker.
    As soon as you catch that, hide the widget and hopefully that should get Qt to re-enable everything as normal.
    Be warned since this is a high level explanation there are a bunch of irritating behaviours you'll probably have to smooth over, but it can be done. Hopefully a better solution will be provided in some future Illustrator.

  • Drawbacks to the new CS6 Color Picker?

    What do people think about the new color picker in Fireworks CS6?
    I like the new larger swatches and default palette: a revised "Color Cubes" layout that includes non-web-safe colors and a selection of warm and cool greys/neutrals. I also like the option to view and enter RGB values and to specify transparency (for fill and stroke separately)
    However, one thing I'm missing is the option to change the swatches from within the color picker itself. Previously, it was possible to choose from a standard set of color swatch layouts or the Swatches palette itself, via a small fly-out menu.
    Now, that option is gone. The color picker simply picks up whatever palette is currently loaded into Swatches (except for masks, which still draw from a separate greyscale palette). To load a new palette into the color picker, you need to change the contents of the Swatches palette itself. This means a little less freedom for the user.
    For example, if you've added a few custom swatches into your Swatches palette, but then decide you'd like to switch the color picker layout, you'll lose those custom swatches—unless you go through the extra step of saving them as a palette. Frankly, in Fireworks, I don't even know how to quickly delete a large number of swatches in order to save a custom palette like this. (The only option I'm aware of is to Command-click, which deletes a single swatch at a time; this requires a lot of patience.)
    Another aspect that concerns me is the contextual nature of the Fill color picker. Accessed from the toolbar, a complete a set of fill options are offered, which is very convenient; you can quickly choose between No Fill, Solid Fill, Gradient Fill and Pattern Fill. But this is not the case when you access the Fill color picker from within the Properties Inspector. In particular, the No Fill option is missing, whereas this used to be the place to make this change. Users who to try to set the Fill to None here may wind up inadvertently sampling colors when they try to click on the No Fill option below, while the color picker is still open.
    Thinking about it, there's plenty of room here; I think the No Fill option should be added back in to the color picker within the Properties Inspector—much as it's already included for Stroke.
    Finally, I'm not saying that I used it a lot (I didn't), but I always liked having the Web Dither fill option; it's definitely a unique, textured look that's not commonly available in other applications. It's gone now.
    The thing is, there's room for it. So why take away a feature like this?

    Hi All:
    Apologies for the cross-post, but I felt it important it add my message in this thread as well.
    Just a note regarding the wishform. Your detailed input on that form is important and I really appreicate you taking the time to help make Fireworks a better product. So thank you for filing these bugs/concerns.
    Keep in mind that even though one person may have indicated they filed the bug, you should also file your own bug on the issue if you are experiencing problems. This reporting makes the engineers aware of how prevalent the issue is and helps to prioritize which bugs get addressed first. Yes, I know, in an ideal world, they'd ALL be marked as high priority, but that's seldom the case with anything. Squeeky wheel gets the grease, etc...
    While filing the bug doesn't necessarily mean you will personally hear from the engineering team, this doesn't diminish the importance of using the wishlist/bug reort form. This is a quote from the form itself:
    >>We normally do not send personal replies to feature requests or bug reports. We do, however, read each and every message. We use the information to improve our products and services. Your comments, suggestions, and ideas for improvements are very important to us. We appreciate you taking the time to send us this information.<<
    That said, I'm making an effort to bring these threads to the attention of the FW team, and if I hear anything myself, I'll be sure to let you know.

  • How to change color picker in CC 2014

    The new color picker, although useful in some respect, is absolutely terrible when compared to the past revision of it.
    Is there any way to change the color picker back to how it was pre-CC 2014?

    I can only agree: choosing a grey shade with the current color picker in Muse is a real night mare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    That said, I am really disappointed with the in-cohesiveness of color pickers across different adobe apps. Isn't it time to unify them??? Also, why can't we just drag and drop a color swatch from one application to another?? Isn't that the point of have swatches in the first place?
    These color issues really cost me my last nerves and are simply time consuming (and completely unnecessary)!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love the adobe products, but color is such a basic and necessary concept in the creative process but really confusing at times across the board in the adobe apps.
    Why doesn't adobe survey its clients to see which attributes of the color pickers, gradients, swatches aso. are popular or used a lot in different apps and then just implement these features in one consolidated universal color picker across all adobe apps??
    Cheers,
    Walter

  • Photoshop CC Color Picker slow lag

    Today I got a new Intuos Pro Medium and installed the latest software from Wacom (6.37-5 - I think.)  I am not sure if this is related, but I am experiencing an extreme slow-down / lag when I attempt to use the color picker to change the foreground color.  Basically, when I move the circle, there is a 10-15 second time period where I watch the new color value numbers slowly, one-by-one change to the new values for the newly selected color.  If I move the color circle a couple times, it could be over a minute before the color picker allows me to choose OK and exit the dialogue box.  I tried this on another computer that had CS6, and no problems with the new tablet.  No issues with drawing/ painting very large with the new tablet.
    Has anyone ever heard of/seen this?  BTW, no problems a week ago.
