Color Picker Looks Like Crayons

Hi All, I am using Photoshop CS 4 on a 2.16ghz iMac running OSX 10.5.7.
My color picker looks like a crayon box, and I don't know how to get it to change to the regular/default color picker. Any ideas?
Thanks for all help provided,
Marty

Mr. Maloney, You are awesome!!! Thanks for the help. I only spent almost two hours trying to figure out what you did in less than two minutes. I can't even tell you how many times I looked at that box and didn't see what needed to be changed.
Thanks again!
Marty

Did you ever find a solution to your problem? I have the same problem.

Hi there - the first screenshot you posted shows the color picker in the HSB color model, the second screenshot is in RGB. Have you tried clicking on the "H" bubble to switch back to HSB?
Here's an article on using the color picker in Adobe Illustrator that you might find helpful: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-628da .html

  • How to change the color picker/color space view?

I wanted to change the color picker/color space view to what it looks like in the other Adobe programs. I have gotten used to using the color picker from the other programs and I have had problems with the look and function of this color view.
In InDesign the color picker looks like this:
And the Photoshop/Illustrator/etc. looks like this:
I've tried changing the "Convert To Profile..." and the Transparency Blend Space, but neither have done anything to what I want to be done.
Is there some way to change this in InDesign?
Note: I want to change the looks of the gradient-like area if that isn't obvious.

I was wanting to do the same change as you, until I saw your two images.
Within the InDesign image you've selected a dark blue colour (R:16, G:49, B:152)  AND you've got the (R)ed channel selected.
Within the Photoshop image you've selected a white colour(R:255, G:255, B:255)  AND you've got the (H)ue channel selected.
In Photoshop I can recreate both of your images by having the same settings for RGB/CMYK and selecting the same channel item as you have in those images.
    That's all.
There is no difference between the two colour selection dialogs except where the HSB, RGB, CMYK and LAB are placed.

  • Color picker show only gamut colors

    hello all,
in photshop, you can go to View -> Show Gamut Warning and then in the color picker the colors out of gamut will be greyed out.
is there any similar setting in illustrator too?
    thanks for answers.

Illustrator is a little different the color picker show the out of gamit warning however if I am corret since illustrator a little different and you really canot select an out of gamit color since it will converted to the cmyk environment for instance or the rgb environment you are creating your document, which is probably the reason that some colors coming from Photoshop do nt always match 100%.
For instance placing a rgb photo in Illustrator converts it to rgb slecting a color out of gamit will also give a cmyk value to it in the picker it is the cmyk value that will be used and there for will not be out of gamit turning on overprint preview will show what the color really looks like if you have a properly calibrated monitor.
The color you are  seecing might be out of gamit but what you have in Illustrator will print properly no matter how close it appears on the screen.
    Let me Illuustrate this
The color picker, notice the cmyk values and the out of gamit warning
The color panel shows it as cmyk values and as long as it is translated as percentages of cmyk inks then it is not out of gamit.
So the issue is mute in Illustrator

  • What is wrong with my color picker?

I Have Photoshop CS5 and am working with a file that is about 40"x40" with 200 res.
My color picker when i opened it today looked like this:
it's totally different and it's only when i am in this file. I was trying to use the eyedropper tool to bring a color over from a much smaller file (where the color picker looked nothing like this) and when i went back to the main window i was working on, the color shifted pretty prominently and i was unable to change it. I compared the "H ,S, B, R, G, B, L, a, b, C, M, Y, K" values in both screens and the left column was accurate, but the right column was different.
is there an easy way to fix this?? Thanks so much!!!
    PS:
    It Normally looks like this:

The color is coming from what is set as your foreground swatch. Not sure besides that what problem you are expereinceing as everything looks normal.
Confirm your target & destination color space are the same -  you can see CMYK  at the top right of the screenshot below.
switch to the eyedropper, and click to sample a color with these settings, your foreground swatch will be set to your color
Switch to your destination document, you can nowswitch to any selection tool, make a slection  and fill with the foreground color

  • Help please - color picker is gone in photoshop cs4

for some reason, when i saved files as gif, i could not reopen them. i would get some error message. so i read somewhere to shut down photoshop and restart it while holding down the ctrl + alt+ shift keys to reset it to all the defaults.
i did this but now when i click the foreground or background color squares at the bottom of the toolbar, i get some stupid color window with 48 Basic Color squares and a couple likes of blank squares for Custom Colors.
no matter what i try resetting, i can no longer get the color picker and i have no way of finding hex colors.
does anyone know where my color picker window has gone!
    thank you!

    thank you chris.
that windows vs adobe color picker seems like a very well kept secret.
even if someone knew EXACTLY what to search for: "change color picker"
-- only the page you mentioned and one other
    (http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-troubleshooting/4946-color-picker-change.htm l)
mentions the Windows vs. Adobe option.
the other 8 results that come up on page 1 of google for "change color
picker" make no mention of the Windows color picker option.

Can't figure out why colors don't totally change when you select type with curser? It looks like it has by looking at it, but when you highlight the area after the old color is still there. It happens with objects to. Driving me NUTZ. Help!

Select the text, and open the Appearance palette (Come on guys, text highlight is irrelevant, it happens to objects too says the OP), and see what's listed there.  For a simple text object, there should only be a line item "Type", followed by "Characters", and when double-clicked the Characters line item expands to tell you the stroke and fill color.  For a basic object, there should be a fill and/or stroke.
What happens sometimes, is that you end up adding extra strokes/fills to objects or text, and the appearance palette is where that will be noted.  Especially when you are dealing with groups, and/or picking up a color with the eyedropper, you may inadvertently be adding a fill or stroke on top of something.  You can drag those unwanted thingies from the Appearance palette into its own little trash can.

Hi AFace; hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that you are having this issue.
Your HP Color Laserjet CM1015 MFP is a commercial product. I will suggest posting and looking in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a prompt solution.

  • My cat sat on my keyboard and now my desktop display looks like it is in night vision with color. How do I get it back to it's original display?

My cat sat on my keyboard and changed the display. Now the coloration and brightness looks like it is in night vision with a bit of color. It is similar to one of the photo booth effect options. How do I get it back to normal?

    Hi JoeBeth,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like your colors have become inverted on your display. This is a feature of Universal Access. Please refer to the attached article for information on this feature with instructions to toggle it on and off.
Mac OS X displays inverted image colors (white on black, reverse type)
    Have a great day,

I will attach a recent screen shot of a print window I opened and the extra code is above and below the window. There are matrix type blocks of code and then lines under the window. I get this all the time and it is getting worse.
Any help to get rid of it would be appreciated.

  • My whites in PSE 13 look like a beige color.

I'm not entirely sure what is going on here, but the whites in my Photoshop Elements 13 look like a beige color. I'm not entirely sure of how to fix this, but it's definitely not my monitor because in other programs the whites are, well, white. If there is a fix for this I would be very grateful to know. I also took a screen shot incase that provides any help:

Try changing your monitor profile from whatever it is to sRGB and see if the problem goes away.  Sometimes a corrupt or incompatible display profile can cause odd colors in Adobe programs.

  • Color Picker (Color Window) only shows "Crayons" in Pages...

Greetings, In Pages '09, the color picker is now only showing the "Crayon" color picker. Earlier today, it let me choose Color Wheel, RGB, CMYK, and other pickers. It does not even show any of these other options in Pages! These other pickers are still available in Keynote. I have tried deleting and reinstalling iWork, and still just have the Crayons in Pages. I have tried deleting "com.apple.iWork09.plist" and I still just have the Crayons, with no option to choose any other color picker. Am I doing something wrong? Where are the other pickers? How do I get them back?
    Thanks in advance,
    --Mark

I have tried deleting "com.apple.iWork09.plist" and I still just have the Crayons, with no option to choose any other color picker.
You may have picked the wrong preference list because you made the wrong assumption. In your post you are making the assumption that the Colour Picker is part of Apple iWork.
If instead you were to assume that the Colour Picker is part of the operating system then you would want to try deleting NSColorPanelSwatches.plist.
Internally, the Colour Picker is a client of ColorSync and the swatches, if memory serves, are represented as ICC NMCL Named Colour profiles.
