  • Export as TIFF or DNG file to have picture printed at lab?

Completely new to digital (still wet print B&W on fiber paper) andreading Kirby's LR3 book which is fantastic for someone at my level.  Plan on digital for my color photos.  I calibrated my monitor using SpyderPro4.
I don't want to buy a printer yet but want to have my color pictures printed digitally at a commercial lab so want to give them a file with the most data as I would want enlargements as large as 16x20.
Kirby states that exporting the "original" file is just the RAW file if the original picture was taken in RAW which would need a sidecar file containing the adjustments as well as the EXIF data.
LR3 also allows the option of exporting as 'DNG."  In digital lingo, I think it also means RAW but I could be mistaken.  Kirby doesn't expand on what exporting in DNG means.  Does the exported DNG file contain the updated "processed" picture file with all of my adjustments or is TIFF the most detailed file I should give to my lab?

    You mean Scott Kelby?
    :~)
Check with the lab, but the odds are they're gonna want either a TIFF or JPEG image, in either Adobe RGB or sRGB color space.

When I print a 4x6 color picture using an iMac with the latest operating system using a Canon MX892 printer, faint black lines appear every 3/16 of an inch. When I print the same picture using iPhoto there is no problem. Any suggestions?

What is the resolution of the picture that you are trying to print?
Go to Image>resize>image size, read the resolution in px/in, then report back, please.
Also, are you in a position to try printing with another printer in an attempt to narrow this down?

  • Help with color setup, pictures printing dark, display looks great

Ok, first let me say I am completely new to Mac, so some of this may sound incredibly stupid but I really need some direction as to how to solve a color issue. Please bare with me as I describe what is probably a most simple fix to those of you with knowledge.
My issue is that I have great display, the pictures, (some taken with a Nikon D100 and D200 in raw format) look wonderful on screen and then, I print.... and for lack of a better description, they appear darker and less "colorful".
The printer is an Epson Photo R1800 which did a wonderful job while on my windows box (using photo shop elements). I had the problem before and after leopard so not an os issue.
I have looked around a bit and found information regarding calibration, icc profiles, etc... and have downloaded the icc profiles from the Epson website. I guess my frustration is that I expected this to be more straight forward as I did nothing but install drivers on the windows box and the pictures printed as they looked on screen, which is my ultimate goal since I am not a pro.
I guess I cannot understand the need to buy another piece of equipment to calibrate a display just to print family photos and it just doesn't make sense to me that the display, which is truly a great picture, needs to be dulled down to match what the printer is putting out. This appears to me to be more of a printer output or driver issue than the display being incorrect.
Sorry for the rant, it is one of frustration and admitted ignorance.
    Would much appreciate any help.
    Ben

What is (probably) happening is that the output to the display is boosting the picture to "look great" whereas what you actually need to do is have a neutral display and then adjust the picture to make it look good on that neutral display.
That's why you need to calibrate the display if you want accuracy when you print.
You may also require the output profiles for your printer, so that when the picture is printed the printer driver makes the correct mapping to the inks and paper.
There's been some other colour management threads recently - search for those and follow the links to some good articles that will explain all you need to know about colo(u)r management. It's very, very, important to get this right when you are printing for yourself, or even when you are sending the image off to a good lab to print.

  • CS3 will not print color pictures

Photo Shop will not print color pictures. It printed fine for over a year then just quit printing in color a few months ago.  A work around was given by our Higher head Quarters but when printing this way the pictures do not print properly and the pictures can't be adjusted or modified any.
Machines having this problem are running Windows XP.
What are the proper setting for this program?
Do I need a software update?

Check the updater and make sure you installed the updates for Photoshop CS3.
But most likely this is a configuration issue with your printer driver.
Many drivers do have settings that force black and white printing, overriding what the application sends to the driver.

  • My i860 canon printer is suddenly printing color pictures with light blue and darker blue horizontal

My i860 canon printer is suddenly printing color pictures with light blue and darker blue horizontal lines.  I have changed the cyan blue cartridge and the problem still exists.  Does anyone know what the problem is?  Thanks.

    Hi CSM,
We can perform a print head cleaning and alignment on the printer to try and resolve the issue.  To do this, please follow the steps below:
    PRINT HEAD CLEANING
With the printer powered on, press and hold the <Resume/Cancel> button.
    <1> Resume/Cancel button
When the power lamp blinks once, release the button.
Note:  The power lamp will blink and print head cleaning will start. The cleaning completes when the power lamp stops blinking.  (It will take about 30 seconds to a minute for the power lamp to stop blinking and remain lit solid green.)
    PRINT HEAD ALIGNMENT
Confirm that the printer is powered on, and load Letter-sized white plain paper in the sheet feeder.
Note:  If paper other than Letter-sized white plain paper is loaded, print head alignment cannot be performed properly.  The automatic print head alignment must be performed from the Automatic Sheet Feeder on the top of the printer.  It cannot be performed from the cassette.
Press and hold the <Resume/Cancel> button, and release it when the Power lamp blinks four times.  (The Power lamp will start blinking and pattern printing will start.)
Print head alignment will start automatically as the following pattern is printed.
Note:  Please wait approx. three minutes until printing is completed.
    Hope this helps!

  • Color Laser Printer load paper 50-55 gsm ?

    Hi...
I've been looking for a color laser printer that can load very thin paper, about 50-55 gsm, like those ncr paper.
I just gonna print occasionally on these kind of paper so my daily load still regular 70 gsm A4 paper.
I search on every printers' spec but couldnt find this info.
Anybody know and willing to share which type / model support this features ?
Thanks in advance for any help.....

    Hi RonRN18,
I understand you're looking to find some more specific information in regards to power surges on Laserjet model printers. I believe I can help out with this!
If you click here you can see one of HP's consumer Laserjet printers, and if you click on Specs below the picture of the printer and scroll down to Power & operating requirements, it gives the information you're looking for under Power consumption. This printer indicates the difference between when it's printing, ready (idle), auto-off and manual-off.
Hope this helps, have a great day!

  • No Color in Printed Documents

    Greetings
I am running OS 10.1 with Quark 4 installed on the classic side
In the past I have printed out business cards with blue and black type, using Lucinda Handwriting and Skia fonts.
Today I went to print more, and not only is the skia font gone, but the printer only prints in black.
I have not changed anything as far as settings, as this is pretty much the extent of what I use classic for.
Any help in getting the pages to print back to two colors would be greatly appreciated.
The printer I am using is a canon i960.
    Thanks for any suggestions

Will the printer print a color picture? This will verify the printer operation. If Yes, the problem lies elsewhere.
Could be caused by the missing skia font. Make a copy of the business card file & change the font to a different one. Now will it print OK?
     Cheers, Tom

  • Pictures printing within a Black Box from a CP1518ni

I have an HP CP1518ni Color LaserJet and while printing sell sheets that contain a lot of graphics, the product pictures are appearing within a Black Box (the normal format has the picture printing with a darkened area, but the problem is that product pictures are appearing within a second layer, black box.)    On my computer screen, this black box is not there and when i print on my inkjet, the picture print correctly.  i spoke with the creator of the sell sheets and it appears that it is a printer issue as opposed to an artwork issue.
I tried printing from a different computer and the problem still exists.  I have also updated the drivers from the website and the issue still exists.  This is not happening on just one sell sheet, it is appearing on every sell sheet that uses the same format.
Confused, frustrated and wasting expensive toner and paper...anyone have any suggestions??  Thanks!

i just bought the same printer.. and had same problem..
when you go to print... look left.. and see that you are printing "full page fax print"... it produces the black border..
choose full page  photo print...right below that...
    problem solved...
    hope it helps..

my 3210 will not print in pink/magenta.  photos and other pictures print in green tones.  i've seen posts clear back from 2011 with no replies or solutions.  if this is hp's definition of product support, i will be sure to choose a different manufacturer when purchasing my next printer ... which will be SOON.

    Hello @justjen ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.

  • Aperture pictures print too 'gray' or light

If I print a picture from iphoto it comes out great on my Canon MP210 printer. If I print exact same picture from aperture it turns out really light and gray colored. Awful. I have the recommended settings that aperture says I should set printer at, but no luck. Any suggestions! It is a pain to move pictures back to iphoto everytime I want to print something. Thanks!

I opened aperture and opened the Help at the top...typed in Print...I then moved curser over the Proofing Profile and immediately that opened up a column on the left side of my computer with a big arrow that pointed to the correct setting to use for my printer! So my pictures are printing in correct color now....however, it seems like I tried this the first day, one picture printed in color, and an hour later, even with correct setting, the rest were printing really light. so I gave up and went on this forum for help. Yesterday, I thought I would check setting again, and then printed out five pictures and they were great! So not sure what actually is going on, but hopefully today I will keep printing in color! Good luck!

  • Pictures print very strangely from Canon MX860, printer or Macbook issue?

I recently purchased a Canon MX860 printer to go with my two-month old Macbook. During setup the printer would not print the head alignment patterns correctly. I do not know if that is a related issue to the picture printing problem I am having.
When I print anything from my Macbook (pictures off my Canon camera or pictures off the internet and even graphics from Canon's site), they come out very odd looking. All the colors are printing and I have checked everything suggested in the printer's online help sections. The problem is that only in certain areas of the pictures are colors coming out reversed or mixed up. For example, I tried printing a picture of my blue-eyed, black and white dog in a snowy landscape with green pine trees in the background. The landscape came out relatively normal looking with white snow, green and brown trees and a light blue sky. My dog cam out with the main areas of her white and black coloring looking normal, but her nostril holes came out white and part of her black nose is pink and blue, while the outer edges of the nose are black like it should be. Her light blue eyes came out solid black while the black "eyeliner" around her eyes is pure white in the printout. The darkest shadows on her face came out with white, blue and pink dots, fading into darker colors towards the outer edges. Her white eyebrow spots came out reversed with the highlights in her fur being black and the shadows being white. But her white muzzle is white like it should be.
I don't get it. How can the printer selectively print some pieces of the same picture incorrectly and some correctly? Did I get the wrong printer to go with a new Macbook? Am I missing some updated driver? Did I just get a dud printer? Please help.

Whether your issue during setup is related or not, I couldn't tell you. However, you definitely want to get that sorted out as it's bound to cause problems otherwise.
Unfortunately, I'm not even sure where to begin troubleshooting for you. Have you tried Canon's website or their support? You might get better answers there.

  • Picture printing quality

We just switched from a iMac PowerPC to an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.5.8.  We are having problems improving the picture printing quality.  We are using two epson printers, the stylus pro 3800 and a picture mate deluxe and printing from PS CS3.  The colors were brighter and more contrasty from the old iMac.  Could someone point us to a good guide for getting the best quality prints from our printers?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    I don't have an answer,
    A few questions.
    Are both iMac monitors calibrated?
Does the same image look identical on both computers?
Do you have Epsons latest drivers installed or just the ones that came with the computer?
