Color problem on some jpg images

Suddenly it happens that some jpg images look almost black (very high level of contrast). I use a Samsung SyncMaster 245B monitor and I had never this effect before. I uninstalled Photoshop Elements and reinstalled, but the problem remains.
Other jpg pictures look normal, but I am unable to understand any difference in the original files.
The same bad pictures look fine if I open them with PaintShop Pro, this could bring me to consider a bad setup of Photoshop Elements ... but which one ?
Can you help me in finding a solution ?
Thanks

I agree with your comment. But what I don't understand is:
1) The monitor was calibrated and no changes done. The problem don't was present days ago.
2) Why only some jpg show this problem, while others generally are shown OK. I may add only that the bad ones are larger in pixels.
Thanks for your answer.

  • Color difference b/t JPG images seen on DPP vs. Preview

I take photos w/ Canon 30D using RAW file and touch up/convert to JPG on DPP. There is a significant color difference on the same JPG image when seen on DPP vs. when seen on Preview. Does anybody have the same problem? It only looks different on Preview b/c when I upload it on a web gallery, the color looks fine, so it's not the converting process that's messing up the color but something about Preview that's causing the problem. Any solution to this?

I've got the same problem on my new macbook. And what's more disturbing is I still could not find one display color profile could give the right color...the color LCD one is ok for daily use, but the color is still duller than it should be, when editing photos.

  • Aperture gets "Unsupported Image Format" on some JPG images

I'm using Aperture 1.5.2 "trial" on PB 15" with OSX 10.4.9. I am getting "Unsupported Image Format" on about half of the 15,000 JPG images that I have on my HDD. But not all of them - even though all images come originally from my D100 camera and are JPEG images. These are all JPEG images with extensions JPG, jpg and jpeg. No RAW or TIFF.
My images are currently catalogued in iVew MediaPro [IVMP] and I'm interested in switching to Aperture. So I've gotta find a way to import those photos.
Here's a clue: When I put the CF card from my camera into the computer yesterday and tried to add the images to Aperture it reported that all the images on the CF chip were "Unsupported Image Format." I was not copying the images - just leaving them im place. As a test, I then used IVMP to import from the CF card onto the HDD, into a directory. Afterward, I fired up Aperture and it could properly index and display the files. I noticed that the pre-existing images that are viewable in Aperture all have previews when viewed in the Finder. Also, they've all been imported from CF to HDD using IVMP, so there may be some processing going on there. I also tried reading files into Photoshop and rewriting them with previews, which I verified in the Finder, and those files also can not be viewed in Aperture. So it is not just a question of having a preview - it's something else about the files.
Another clue - when I shoot more than one CF of photos in a day, I use IVMP to import the first CF batch, and those are always visible in Aperture - but IVMP doesn't let you import two batches on the same date (pretty goofy huh?) - so to import an additional batch I have to (Finder drag-drop) copy from the CF to the HDD into a directory - and those files have no previews, have not been imported thru IVMP, and interestingly are not viewable in Aperture.
So I'd have to conclude that iView MediaPro is doing something to "tame" the files' format that makes them acceptable to Aperture. But I want to dump IVMP, so there has to be some other way to make these D100 files acceptable to Aperture.
I either need to "fool" Aperture into reading the files or find a way to tweak 'em and make 'em acceptable to Aperture. Any ideas from other iView/Aperture users out there?
    PB 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Good idea, but I checked it... I mentioned reading right from the card in order to illustrate that the JPG files are "unsupported image format" even *right from the camera*. *In fact* the CF is not the differentiating factor between renderable and non-renderable. The real factor is whether the files went thru iView Media Pro or not. Files that were drag-dropped from the CF into a folder are not renderable by Aperture and files that were imported first (from the CF or from another folder) thru IVMP into a folder are renderable.
Yesterday I confirmed again that GraphicConverterX does not fix the files if I import and then rewrite with additional options turned on. It also sees the same IPTC data and EXIF on both a "good" file and a "bad" file. Identical. I also fixed the OS9 creator and filetypes so they're <none> and that didn't fix anything - some good files and some bad files have this configuration.
Ah another COOL THING - I just loaded a CF card into the computer and brought up Aperture - it immediately recognized the card and showed me two previews - one for a NEF (Nikon RAW) and one for a JPG. The previews looked fine. I clicked to have it import the photos. Once imported, the NEF looked OK, but the JPG had a grey preview and then "Unsupported Image Format" on the large version. I think this confirms the file format is a problem, but then why was Aperture able to gen a preview when the file was on the CF chip but not after it was copied to the HDD?
I double-checked this by copying in Finder drag-drop from the CF card to the HDD and then importing the same two photos (NEF and JPG) from the HDD, and indeed the NEF was renderable and the JPG was not. For me this confirms that there's something about the file format that Aperture can't deal with.
I then imported the same two files using IVMP (Media Pro) and as expected, both files could then be "imported" and rendered by Aperture. So IVMP is doing something that makes Aperture really happy.
In case someone can actually compare the two files - I have put up a "bad" and a "good" JPG - it's the same image from a Nikon D100, but one of them (bad) is right from the camera and the other (good) was imported by IVMP and somehow is acceptable to Aperture. Any intelligence that anyone can add based on these files would be useful.

  • Some JPG images, stored in DB, do not display on screen/image item.

    Hi friends,
I have a form to save and retrieve images (JPG, GIF, TIF) to and from DB, using WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.CLIENT_TO_DB and CLIENT_IMAGE.WRITE_IMAGE_FILE respectively.
It’s working fine, but with few JPG images, it stores in DB but do not display on screen/image item.
Secondly, if I try to retrieve and write this JPG to OS (using CLIENT_IMAGE.WRITE_IMAGE_FILE), it prompts error “FRM-47101: Cannot write image file”.
    Environment:
    Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.0.2
    OS XP Pro 2002 SP3
    Oracle DB 11g Enterprise Edition Rel. 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit
Any help will be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
I have done a workaround here, which worked for me.
My requirement is to direct save images in DB. So my system was just saving images without knowing if picture would display on form or not later.
I created a (non-DB) image item on form and added a code (CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_IMAGE_FILE) to place image in this image item, if it successfully display image then save image directly in DB using code (WEBUTIL_FILE_TRANSFER.CLIENT_TO_DB).
Note: - If CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_IMAGE_FILE fails it raises exception and it means image has invalid format/internal data header and system does not save image in DB.
Now I have a kind of a filter to stop saving pictures which do not display later on form. :)

  • Problems in placing .jpg images - size shrinks

    Hi,
I have been working with InDesign for years and this is the first time I encouterred the following problem. Currently I am creating an online document with InDesign CS5.5.
The problem is that when I place (ctrl + D) an image (.jpg), some of them seem to "shrink" from their original size and become totally pixelated.
My original image is 192 x 380 px and it was placed as 46.08 x 91.2 px
I don't understand what might be the problem. For some of my images it seems to do this and for some not. There are some images that I have previously placed succesfully and then these same images are now shrinked when I place them. Could this be a setting change? I have tried everything, but nothing seems to work.
    Very puzzled.
    Any suggentions?
    Miiagod

A 192 x 380 pixel  image scaled at 100% that also measures 192 x 380 pixels on the ID page has to have an actual resolution of 72ppi:
If the actual ppi is different (100 ppi below) and the scale is 100% then the ID object pixel width and height has to change:

  • Problem importing some jpeg images

    **** all
For some reason I cant import selected jpeg images, about 75% of them are grayed out for some reason, the images are jpegs I have collected on line and are the only images I seem to have a problem with.
    Any idea way ?
    Thanks

yes I have the actual image, I found the problem .
they where all grayed out cause of the image size, I downloaded desktop images.
I'm glad I worked it out cause I'm using these images as backgrounds and, have 487 of them. I ran them through easybatchphoto and resized the width on all of them to 800. now they all work fine.

  • Problem resizing imported jpg images in flash cs4

when i import a jpg file in flash and then resize this with the transform tool to for example 50% of the original size
then im not getting the same result as resizing it in photoshop.
if i first resize it in photoshop and import the image is smooth and looks the way i want
but if i resize in flash the image gets edgy and not so good.
so is there a way in flash cs 4 to resize the image with the same result as resizing it in photoshop or
    similar?

    thanks for advice =)
but the size of the jpeg will maintain the same?
seems like that, otherwise i think photoshop is the only option..

  • Problems attaching scanned jpg images to mail messages

We are having issues attaching scanned images from a Epson SX600FW all in one printer/scanner/fax machine into mail on my dad's MacBook.
Basically if I attach a jpeg from any other source (internet or digital camera) to a message, they attach ok but if I attach a file from this printer Mail stops responding and the rotating ball comes up.
The odd thing is if I attach a file from another source first and then an image from the printer it attaches fine but if I only attach a file from the printer Mail hangs.
    Any ideas anyone ?

Many times you need Photo Software. This allows your Photo's to be .jpg Format then you can copy and paste, or Drag and Drop. The  Key is the Format of your photos. Many Cameras and other periphials make there scans and photo's .jpg format by default.  If you do not have the software here is a Free on that is comparible too Adobe's Photoshop.

  • Inverted, "negative" JPG images?

I'm having a strange problem with certain JPG images when I import them into Keynote.
Most work fine when dragged into Keynote, but a few (those coming from a co-worker, usually exported from Photoshop) turn into "negative" reverse-color images when dragged into a presentation.
The strangest part is, those very same images display fine on their own in Preview or GraphicConverter or Photoshop or Mail or iPhoto or anything else. It's only when dragged into Keynote that they don't work. If I open them in Preview and save them as a TIFF, then they work fine.
    Any thoughts?

most of the time a jpeg will work fine if you drag it from the desktop to KN directly. But, there are a number of file formts that keynote will not recognize with a "direct" drag and drop. It is best to drag the image from the desktop into iphoto, then use the "media" button to drag them from iphoto onto KN. This way, any image that is dragged into KN is recognized

  • Illustrator CS6 color issues when saving JPG

I have recently gotten rid of the Pantone+ color books and replaced them with the old color books, using the "Workaround 1: Replace Pantone Plus with older Pantone color books" help from Adobe. Followed all of the instrauctions and had no issues until two weeks ago. Then suddenly when saving PDFs I had to start changing the output Color Conversion to ' convert to destination'. I never had to take this extra step before. Now if I do not do this it saves some colors as black. Whatever, I got over that and take the extra step.
TODAY, now I can't even save JPGs without color issues. Some JPGs save correctly. Then I use the same color in a different file, and it saves completely different. Same color profiles, swatch options, blah blah blah.
Someone help me. I am extremely fed up with these issues. Like everyone else, this is my job and now it is making a huge impact on my work...

What program are you using to view the PDFs?

  • Problem printing JPG images in Safari 5.0.1

    Hi!
I have an application that prints an html with some information and some images.
The problem is that when I print it, some of the images in the html are not in the print area, they appear as if they were white images. This is happening only with jpeg (or jpg) images. With PNG files I'm not having this issue.
    I'm using Safari 5.0.1 in Windows 2008.
Is it a bug in that version for Windows? As I've tried this in a Mac and it prints the jpeg images correctly.
    Thanks in advance.

I can use Google street view on v10.5.8 Safari 5 also.
If you want to revert to Safari 4.0.5, go here for instructions.

You may have inadvertently "cleaned" out necessary system files.
How are you doing this cleaning?

  • Resize image code doesn't work for some JPGs

Hi. I'm using the below code to resize images and store them on the server. However, with some JPGs, the resize produces a reddish tint on the image. Any ideas what could be causing this? Here's the original image: http://www.unctv.org/tWxkBbq_10M6wKRRL/PNCWWD01.jpg and here's what it produces afterward: http://www.unctv.org/tWxkBbq_10M6wKRRL/PABDFC01__1289231445291.jpg
Photoshop CS5 is used to produce the JPG input for this app. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the jpeg encoders, but I do see code that doesn't make any sense to me:
    Image resizedImage = null;
    int iWidth = image.getWidth(null);
    int iHeight = image.getHeight(null);
// This code ensures that all the pixels in the image are loaded.
Image temp = new ImageIcon(resizedImage).getImage();What is the point of creating an ImageIcon from a null image?
int newWidth = (int)this.targetWidth;I don't see where you actually use this variable, so how does the image get resized?
For more help create a [url http://sscce.org]SSCCE, that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour and maybe someone will take a look at it.
