Color problems when dvd is burned

it sounds strange but after my movie is exported from final cut using compressor it's god and it's good also when it's imported in DVD studio preview is ok but when i finally burn the dvd i can't undesrstand why but it changes colors risulting in a much brighter image! I've also cheked using Apple dvd player and also on my mac monitor it's much brighter!
Is this one of the usless automations apple use to introduce in its pro software?
or (i hope its me maybe i do something wrong) but i don't know where! Settings are defoult and movie is exported from FCP in a standard DVD best quality 120min
thanks !

apple monitors always give bright images. I darken my video that I know is going to TV or to be played on a PC. If you're serious about this stuff, you can buy kits to fine-tune your color output using Photoshop. If you have an NTSC monitor hooked up, play a timeline in FCP and notice the difference on your apple monitor and the tv monitor and plan accordingly. unless of course you're final destinatino is to play it on apple monitor.

  • P35 Neo2-FR / Marvell Controller problem. - DVD/CD Burning

I think this is hardware related and more like limitation of the model rather than one faulty motherboard.
    My setup is
    P35 Neo2-FR / E8400 / WinXP
I have all 4 intel SATA for RAID so I've used Marvell controller for my DVDRW. 1st was NEC drive IDE and while it read disc fine it couldn't burn any CD/DVDs
I thought it was faulty DVDRW so I've bought a new samsung SATA burner. It has SAME exact problem. Cannot start burning.
I've tested the same unit with different computer, and of course it works.
I'm sure not many people have similar spec as mine (4 SATA HD RAIDS) so this might go unnoticed but I find it a very serious problem.

Quote from: larciel on 12-February-08, 07:08:08
I just found out that it is actually reported as SCSI.
    SCSI\CDROM&VEN_TSSTCORP&PROD_CDDVDW_SH-S203B&REV_SB02\5&2A9ABE04&0&040
That's the DEVICE_ID for the Drive.
You might be right. This might be issue with Raid and Marvell conflicting.
I use Lastest driver for all of them. I actually use DriverPacks from DriverPacks.net
Just trying to see if anyone have same config as mine so I can know that this is driver issue and not hardware issue.
You could disconnect your raid setup and attach your burner to a Intel SATA port and see what the Intel controller thinks about your burner. Bios in none raid mode and fast boot disabled so you can see whats going on.
Boy there is another possible problem. I would never use the DriverPacks on hardware that I can get drivers for manually. Did you slipstream the DriverPack into your XP disk? I have seen the wrong drivers used and or mis configured when doing so.

  • I also have a color problem when Save For Web

Using Photoshop CS4 and I also have a problem when I use the "Save for Web & Devices" My colors also get bleached. I found a thread with the same problem but on Windows.
As I have a Macbook Pro I can not change my monitor settings. In the SFW I check "Convert to sRGB" but it make no difference. I also tried to convert in the menu before using SFW. So I need some help here.
Here is a screen shot on my screen: http://www.scancyp.com/dump.jpg

    Also I was wondering why?
You need to calibrate and profile your monitor regularly and often
First:  Because monitors can and do drift.  In CRTs all kinds of electronic components and the phosphors themselves age; in LEDs and LCDs the back-light illuminants do; etc.
Second:  Monitor profile files can and occasionally do get corrupted.
I validate the calibration of my monitors practically on a daily basis.
If you don't have an accurately profiled monitor at all times, your work is wasted.
    Magooi wrote:
But it's a whole science to calibrate the monitor without a hardware calibration kit. I had a look at SuperCal as you suggested, but I am afraid it's gona be too complicated for me as I think it's hard enough to calibrate with the Apple calibration tool.
Even the cheapest hardware calibrator puck will give you superior results than any eyeball calibrator.  That said, SuperCal is a tad better than Apple's  built-in eyeball calibrator, though nowhere as good as a hardware calibrators.
Personally, I detest laptop screens and categorically do not consider a MacBook Pro a suitable machine for serious color work.  For this reason, I cannot in good conscience insist on your buying a hardware calibrator.
Laptop screens can be nearly impossible to calibrate accurately.
    Magooi wrote:
I have made a new screen shot with my results so far. Upper left is Photoshop original. To the right the SFW and lower left the preview result. The SFW result still don't give me the colors I want, but as I said: closer then before.
Screen shots from an uncalibrated or inaccurately calibrated monitor are worthless, always.  They do not help at all, especially when they are partial snippets that don't show the whole picture.
This time around they are even worse, as I cannot see whether you rectified your Preview setting in the Save For web dialog box to "Use Document Profile", as I told you earlier:
You have to start by changing that setting in the Save For Web dialog box to "Use Document Profile".
Is your original document in a device independent color space (i.e. was your working colorspace set to such a device-independent color space like Adobe RGB or sRGB when you created the original) and is it properly tagged (does it have such a device independent profile embedded)?  If the answer to any of that is no, all your work is wasted.
If your working space is set to your Monitor Profile, then your work is a useless mess.  If the original is in your Monitor Profile, it's no good either.  Same goes for the Preview setting in the Save For Web dialog box, if it's set to Monitor Profile, it's useless.
If you view any untagged image (any image without a device-independent profile embedded) in any Apple application, be aware that any such Apple application, From the Finder, through Preview, Aperture and iPhoto to Safari, will throw your monitor profile at your image (assuming it's really in your Monitor Profile) and it will display your image in the wrong colors, as all Apple applications stupidly assume that all untagged images were created by some fool who didn't know better.
    Magooi wrote:
But now my main questions is:
Why the Original in the Photoshop SFW don't look like the original? And then why the Optimized in the SFW also don't look like the the preview? (Specially look at he shadows of the palm tree that shows in the Optimized but not in the preview)
I have no idea what all your other color settings throughout the whole application and in the Save For Web box are, what else may be messed up on your machine, or how badly inaccurate your monitor profile is.  Again, your  screenshot is not helpful and never will be—unless you had an accurately profiled monitor, which you will never be sure you have on your laptop, ever.
    Magooi wrote:
And again, should I invest in SuperCal? It seems also to be very old.
SuperCal is better than Apple's calibrator, regardless of whatever its age may be at this point.  Last time I checked, SuperCal was free.  If they want to charge for it now, don't buy it.  It's not worth it for a laptop screen.
On a side note, if you think SuperCal is "too complicated" for you, I doubt you're ready for Photoshop anyway, even with a better machine.  Sorry, no offense meant, but it wouldn't be fair to you if I didn't tell you exactly how I feel.

  • Color problems playing DVD on DRU840A Burner

Installed DRU840A in a Dell 8200. Can read & write DVD data discs OK.  Same for music cd's. But playing DVD produces checkerboard coloror red & green and basically a B&W image.  No problems in Device Manager. Set as Cable Select for my system.

  • Video problems in DVD SP burned DVDs - FCP frame rate issue?

Please help! We have a 99 minute feature project that we shot in 24p (NOT 24pa) on a DVX100, imported the footage into FCP in 29.97fps, and edited in a 24fps sequence timeline. When we exported the sequence through compressor (DVD High Quality 120min 4:3 option) to create the 23.98fps mpeg-2 and burned it to a DVD using DVD Studio Pro (with aiff audio because DVD SP had a problem importing the Dolby file for some reason), the movie image had blurring or ghosting when played on a dvd player and looked very "digital" (not like 24p).
After reading several postings on here, we thought the problem may have been because we were coming from a 24p timeline. Following a suggestion made to another post, we exported the 24fps sequence into a Quicktime movie and then imported that back into FCP and put it in a 29.97fps timeline. It needed rendering and we did that. Then we exported the new 29.97 sequence through Compressor into a 29.97 mpeg-2 and burned with DVD SP. When played on a DVD player, the video looked better this time, but appears to be moving in a sort of slow motion.
Because of the length of the project, we've been using dual layer DVDs, but the break point doesn't seem to be causing any problems. Also, we've slightly decreased the "Average Bit Rate" in Compressor from 5 to 4.5 before creating the mpeg-2, etc. files because the default description of the 120min high quality setting said "90 minutes of video with AIFF on DVD-5" and our movie is 99min. Taking it down to 4.5 changed the default description to "102 or 103 minutes".
Each time we burn, the video and audio seem to be completely in sync... it looks as though the problem is with the speed and I don't know at this point if this is frame rate, bit rate, pulldown, method of burning (i.e. DVD SP rather than something like Toast).
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to try and include all the info I could. If anything is unclear or I left anything out, please ask. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thank you, thank you, thank you thrillcat and Silal! Getting rid of the render files and then copying the 24 sequence into the new 29.97 sequence worked like a charm. There were some minor things to fix (small gaps between certain cuts, audio and video clips that needed to be lengthened or cut by a couple of frames) but overall very painless... especially when compaired with the prospect of having to re-edit or re-import all our footage (as the guy from Apple tech support suggested).
On the advice of our sound editor, we exported the 29.97 sequence using Quicktime Conversion into a DV Stream choosing DVC Pro in the Options field. We then burned the resulting file onto a regular 4.7GB DVD using DVD Studio Pro. And PRESTO, our movie was back in its wonderful 24p state!
I greatly appreciate everyone's help. Thanks again!

  • Firewire Problem When Using External Burner

Before I go into detail about my problem let me say that I contacted the manufacturers CS and they were unable to help (sent a new burner and I still had the same problem).
I finally got an external DVD burner, the lacie d2 with Lightscribe, and I plugged it in the firewire port, updated it with all the latest drivers and tried burning some cd's from an iTunes (7.1) playlist. It checked the media, started to burn the first song and and immediately went to finishing the disc burning without going through the other songs. But then it just hung there (the player started running, I could hear it, but when it froze after the 1st song he player just quieted down). I left it alone for awhile figuring it would eject the disc but nothing happened. I was unable to stop the process, quit iTunes or even eject the disc. Eventually I had to force quit and restart the computer.
I tried it using Toast but I got an error the first time and the second time I tried it froze on the burn screen. The funny thing is I'm able to burn when using the usb connection (it's really slow though, 1.0) and I'm able to rip cd's when connected via friewire but burning causes all types of problems.
The burner shows up on the system profile (vendor supported after updating with drivers), I've switched firewire cables, and used both ports on the iMac and the dvd burner, and after contacting Lacie they sent me a second burner but the problem persisted. I use a lacie external hard drive and never had a problem with it so I was wondering if anyone had an explanation or a similar problem. If not I was thinking of sending this second one back and trying the new Sony firewire dvd burners.
And one last thing, I got this because my superdrive gave up on me, although it's still recognized in the system profiler, it just doesn't start up if I put in a cd or dvd.
Please help as I'm at the end of my rope with this burner.
iMac G4 Flat Screen   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I'm curious if the internal superdrive's inaccessibility to the system and
the firewire port issues are related; or share a common thread in how
they may require one action to try and make them work.
Aside from that speculation, have you tried seeing what the Apple
Hardware Test (boot the computer from it) says in regard to this
matter and the details of any error codes it may generate? And
if you can run Disk Utility from the installer OSX disc#1 from the
external FireWire disc drive, to see if any maintenance can help
the system, that would be nice.
There also are third-party freeware disc burn utilities; and a few share-
ware ones that are quite good. They usually will work in problematic
situations where the hardware is OK and the basic OS X is, too; but
for some reason the external FW or internal replacement Superdrive
won't burn a disc or does it partially; or improperly. I've used my disc
burners so rarely I am not a great one to improvise here; but I did get
Burn 1.7u (v12) http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net and it does work well.
Can you boot the computer from any of the DVD - Firewire external
recorder/players you have or had? You should be able to boot the OSX
from the installer disc#1 from a good external; but some may not do it.
Was there any issue in the procedures you described before upgrading
the system to 10.4.9? How about Quicktime 7.1.5 or iTunes 7.1.1?

  • Strange problem when trying to burn a playlist

I have a G5 and Itunes 6 or 6.0, whatever he current one is...anyway. I put in the songs (from my "library") into my playlist. All are, say, Aiff files, and all are playable (ie I can press the space before the song and it plays fine) and all are 44/16 stereo, and all are checked. I put in a blank CD and press the burn button and it goes for a few seconds like it's getting ready to burn...and suddenly an error message comes on that says something like: ! THERE ARE NO SONGS ON THIS PLAYLIST-PLEASE CHECK ALL SONGS...but all songs have been checked off and the songs are definitely there!...but ITUNES doesn't seem to "see" them or something. Also, sometimes (not always) it seems to burn, but then an extra step happens. At the end of the burn, the burn icon changes to a import icion that says, Import songs and I have to press THAT and THEN the cd is actually burned, that is if the computer even sees the tunes...it's very odd...Final additional weird thing. On my desktop there are now at least 2 CD icons, which both disappear when I eject the one with the title. I've even seen 3 or 4 cd icons there (at the same time) by the way. BUT Mainly I want to know why it says "there are no songs in this playlist".

What kind of CD are you burning (Audio or MP3)?
If you're burning an MP3 CD, the songs must already
    be in mp3 format.
If not, iTunes will tell you that you have no songs
    in the playlist.
    M
I was making an audio cd. But I have since found out what the problem was. The files in my PLAYLIST I converted to aiff, since they were SDll files (I thought they were similar to AIFF, and they PLAY on Itunes...just won't burn.) When I selected the songs in the playlist and converted them...I thought all those files were converted, They were not. The converted files went into my LIBRARY, even tho I selected the ones in the playlist...and once I exchanged the SDll versions of the songs in my playlist. THEN they burned fine...but still...it's confusing..you say convert..it says it's been converted..and what they don't say is it's not been converted inside the playlist...where I had selected the songs...It just ADDED aiff versions..but only in the library...Anyway, that's what happened. But it's strange that it PLAYS SDll but won't burn them....and you'd think, logically..the ones you selected would change...but they don't. Playlists are mainly pointers to the actual files I guess...a sort of Alias..
At least it works now. But it's sad that the latest itunes does more, but also does LESS...as I used to be able to burn SDll files. Now I'll have to convert all my files to AIFF, and mp3's as I assume my ipod video won't play anything but mp3's?

  • Color Problem when Aadding/Removing series from Chart

Is it possible to define the color of the series to add in a Chart?
Actually, the color seems to be defined in a precise order by the chart itself when adding the series. I think there's a list of predefined colors and for each series added to the chart, it take the next color of the list. Then, when we remove a series, the pointer in that list of colors is decremented.
That behavior does not suit me. If i remove a series and add it again there are cases where two series can have the same color...
    Example:
add series 1 - color blue
add series 2 - color red
add series 3 - color cyan
    remove series 2
add series 2 - color cyan
series 2 and 3 have the same color
    (you can test this behavior)
So is there a mean to avoid this problem and set the color of series ourself?
    Thanks

If you search the http://javafx-jira.kenai.com you will come across quite a few open bugs to do with dynamically modifying charts by adding and removing series and data - so I guess, if you are currently using this feature, then proceed with caution (and don't use the chart animation feature) until they are fixed (and log new issues if yours is not already captured).

  • Problems playing DVD's burned with Encore 2.0...

About 4 months ago, I burned a 4-DVD set for a client of mine... I authored them all in Encore 2.0 and everyone was happy with it (or so I thought)... But today I got a call from them and they said that their end-users are having trouble playing them in set-top boxes and that they either don't play and/or kick out at the 20-minute mark.
I have watched these all the way through on both my computer AND my set-top box (although my DVD is pretty new and plays everything - including .divx files on a CD-R, etc...) I asked him to look into it, get more details and get back to me. However in the meantime I would like to somehow verify that these are indeed error-free dvd's. By the way, they started duping on DVD+R and switched to DVD-R at some point (even though I told them DVD-R for highest compatibility to begin with), but they are having problems with both...
    My main question is this:
Is there a program available that will run a test on a DVD's file structure, etc and verify it's a good clean "compatible" DVD?
I do realize that older player especially will not play some "burned " DVD's, etc... But I want to verify the problem is not on my end. I do not see a way that Encore would make a non-compliant disc... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -BChil

So, AC3 is compatible with older players and even smaller. Great, I did not realize that. If I have to re-author I will certainly do that.
Luckily I still have the finished AVI files and the Encore project files. But I most likely erased the whole DVD project folder. Is there any way to re-call the DVD project with only the .ncor file? I know I have tried in the past and have not been able to. I would like these new DVD's to have the same exact look as the previously authored ones...
Now that I think about it, I never set anything. I exported to AVI's and let Encore maximize the bit rates to fit it all on a 4.7 gig DVD-R. (i authored 9 hours of footage to 4 DVD's with - one was over 2 hours long - this was against my recommendation by the way...) I haven't used Encore since September so am a little rusty. Where do I set the guidelines for the auto maximize option? (i.e. I still want to maximize the DVD but using .AC3 for audio and limit maximum bitrate to 7000 kbps...)
    Thanks!

  • Color problems when printing from PDF created in Pages

I have created a newsletter in Pages, and have used the Export > PDF so that the file can be sent to a professional printer.  One of the graphics (created by an outside graphic designer and put into my Pages document as a jpg file) prints in all sorts of bizarre colors - nothing like how it displays on the screen.  Is there some sort of color formatting that I can do to make it print in the correct color?

The Pages pdf will have many more problems than this case of mismatched color profiles.
Unless you really know what you are doing avoid using Pages for commercial output. For a start all your bitmaps will have been rendered to a too low 72dpi resolution.

  • Color problems when printing

When i´m printing a picture from LR5 to my Epson R-3000 the pictures look like they were taken with IR-film. Preview looks good as well as the printers preview but the result looks almost like a negative. What have I missed?

No I´ve chosen the printer to manage the color and in the printer settings I´ve chosen AdobeRGB and I´ve also tried Epson Standard sRGB but none of them are working. I´ve also tried to manage the color from LR, choosing both Adobe RGB and sRGB and turning of color management in the printer settings but it still looks just as bad...

  • Color problems when loading images

I load card from camera (Canon EOS 700D) and they show fine. But when I hit import the colors go bad and take on a greenish tint. If I hit reset in the develop mode the colors go back to normal. It's a windows 7 PC with Lightroom 5. Colors also show fine on camera LCD.

Sounds like you are applying a Preset during Import.  Check your Import panel.

  • Error 0x8002006E When trying to burn data to a DVD

I've been having a recurring problem when I try burning files to a Memorex DVD+R on my G5 iSight. My configuration is the standard SuperDrive, etc. I open the DVD, drag files, click "burn" and I get this error shortly after the process begins. I'm not sure if it's hardware related or not as my drive plays DVDs just fine. I managed to burn one disc, but then I continued getting the same problem. I've rebooted several times, used different discs in case one was faulty, tried every burn speed with no luck. I can burn CDs fine as well, just not data to a DVD.

Same problem, different error code (-43).
