Color Problems with CS4 Upgrade

I recently upgraded to CS4 and have been experiencing the following problem. When I open an image from ACR to PS CS4 it looks absolutely nothing like it did in ACR. If I was to describe it, it would be that the image has an overall red tint when viewed in CS4. If I then save this image as a PSD file, and then open it in PS CS3 it matches the CS4 ACR image. So, what have I got set wrong in PS CS4 (which is still all of the default settings)?

I've used dual monitors for many years. I see absolutely no change when moving any image from one monitor to another in Photoshop 7.0.1 through 11 (CS4). Photoshop is smart enough to read the profile for each monitor on the fly.
HI> Although I'm new to the Mac platform, that has been my experience also.
Even when I place half of the image in one monitor and the other half in the other one, Photoshop uses the correct monitor for each respective half of the image.
HI> I agree, for CS3 and Lightroom that is how it works for me too.
My response to Ray's question ("Where does photoshop assign a primary monitor?") has absolutely nothing to do with monitor profiles, only with which monitor will be the primary monitor, i.e. the one that hosts the menu bar with the Apple menu.
That is what you can change in the Display Preferences > Arrangement (Mac System Preferences).
HI> Correct and I agree. But I believe Ray had that setup correctly to begin with, unless I did not understand him.
The one thing that did change in CS4 is that image files now will always open on the primary monitor. In previous versions of Photoshop, you could just move an image to the secondary monitor, close it, and it or the next image would open on your secondary monitor too. That is not possible in CS4, at least in the current version.
HI> My observation as well.
However, the monitor profile used on each monitor respectively remains the correct one as set in Display Preferences > Color.
Photoshop knows how to apply each monitor profile to each monitor, unless the user has messed that up in Display Preferences > Color.
HI> As stated, CS3 and Lightroom do apply colors correctly. CS4 does not.
In Edit > Color Settings, you should be set to the Adobe Color Engine (ACE), not to Color Sync.
HI> All my observations with CS4 have used ACE. I was getting frustrated and the ColorSync thing was an experiment to see if anything changed.
In my experience, the Apple CMM, Color Sync, has been unreliable for a long time. I just avoid it. (There are other legitimate uses for the ColorSync Utility, such as repairing profiles [Profile First Aid], visualizing and comparing their gamuts, etc.)
If both monitors are accurately calibrated and profiled, and if the appropriate monitor profiles are selected for each monitor separately in Display Preferences > Color, Photoshop will use them correctly on each monitor, in my experience.
HI> CS4 does not seem to work the same way. In fact, if you bring up the images in Bridge CS4 on my setup, the filmstrip version of the image will have the proper color profile (when I move it back and forth from one monitor to the other) and the selected preview image will not! I believe this is a bug in CS4! CS4 should apply the same color profile to each image in Bridge regardless of which monitor I move the window to.
Something is going wrong in Ray's setup, but there are not enough details to tell what. Screen shots of all the settings would be helpful.
HI> I'm not sure how your monitors are setup. Perhaps you have two monitors that are nearly the same and therefore your color profiles are close enough to not see the difference that Ray and I see. My monitors are setup correctly and I believe that Ray's are too.
Even the cheapest calibrator puck will produce a more accurate profile than can be achieved through Apple's built-in or any other eyeball calibrator like SuperCal.
HI> I use Graytag McBeth. However, even if I did not use any calibration, I should see the same results in the same window for Bridge CS4, regardless of how far the profiles were off! Comparing that with CS3 and Lightroom makes me believe that this is a software bug in CS4 not a setup issue.

  • Problems with auto upgrade Anyconnect 3.1

    Hello,
I'm having problem with auto upgrade of Anyconnect 2.5 to 3.1.
    Here is the situation :
I have ASA5510 running ASA 8.4.5 and clients are running Anyconnect 2.5.3055 and 3.1.00495 with 2 different profiles.
Clients with 2.5 can upgrade to 3.1 but then receive an "Invalid host entry" when they try to connect with new client. It works if they use FQDN instead of profiles. It's the same situation with Windows 7, Mac OS X and linux.
If I configure client software back to 2.5 on ASA, it works again for every client.
Do you have an idea ?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Yann

I have seen the same behavior on Mac OS X. A couple of points for me:
If I delete the profiles from /opt/cisco/anyconnect/profile then I can connect once (using the FQDN) but it then downloads the client profile and on next attempted connection it receives "invalid host entry." My profiles use the FQDN of my ASA and both forward and reverse DNS resolution are configured properly.
My workaround is to remove the AnyConnect Client Profile entirely, but I can get away with that because I have a very simple setup, with all users in one default group. If I had to pass different profile information to different users that would not be a solution.
Second, better workaround: I just exported the client profile, imported it under a different name, edited the new client profile to remove the server address, and assigned the new profile to the group policy. At their next login, users get all the profile settings and since the client remembers the FQDN they used to connect it doesn't adversely affect the user experience.

  • CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time.  Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working.  I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's.  Is there

CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time.  Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working.  I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's.  Is there a way around this?  Is there a patch to correct it?

    To build CD's???
What problem does Encore have with DL?
If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore.

I want to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard on my 2008 MacPro. How do I avoid problems with the upgrade process?

#1 Do a complete bootable backup of your drive before upgrading. That way should anything happen you can revert back to the start and try again.

  • Still weird problems with CS4/My new computer

Here is situation. Machine works very well when I´m editing HD video but soon as I start edit multi-cam: PROBLEMS! And as I watch from monitor that materia that I been edited so far, it works well, but as soon as I try to change cameras, everything slows-down. Like there is too little memory or something. Could the problem be somewhere in that CS4 program? Because I watch same time those CPU/Memory values and they don´t go very hight. CPU about max. 40% and Memory max 4Gb. And basicly: Is thia computer powerfull enough for Creative Suite CS4
My graphics card is, ATI Radeon HD 4870. I have update my bios and  Radeon should be 64bit with latest drivers.
I have ran PassMark Performance test again and again. 2D results are mysterious low and also  disk results ( sequenta write/random seek).
    Everydays I got bluescreens (Bad_Pool-Header, Bad-Pool_Caller etc.)
Also I´ve notised that in that computer shop they connect those Hard-drives in in SAT 3 and 4. Should they be connected in 1 & 2?
Also my "first" hard-drive (C:) shoud be very fast, 10 000rpm but in that performance test, and also in Windows hard-drive test results shows, that information does not move as fast as it should be?
Hard-drive is 300 GB ATA II VelociRaptor drive model FS WD3000HLFS
( http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2503 ). Is that hard-drive appropriate for Windows 7 or vise versa?
Or could that problem be in my memory chips?
In here I ad my DxDiag-file. I wonder why there said that in displey devices: Current Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (59Hz) ?? Should it be 645Bit be cause displaycard is 64bit ???

    Thanks for tips!
We may have to clear up the hole computer. I have quite a lot videomaterial in hard-drive D, waiting for edit. In C there are basic brograms, Corel X4 and some players. Nothing bigger. Still, before that, now that "normal" HD editing is working quite well,  I wonder:
Are CPU about  40% and Memory 4Gb values normal when I´m editing with CS4?
Is my computer actual powerfull enough for Creative Suite CS4?
Why in Earth are those 2D values so lame?
Hard-drives are connected in SAT 3 and 4. Should they be connected in 1 & 2?
First hard-drive (C:) shoud be very fast, 10 000rpm but in that performance test, and also in Windows hard-drive test results shows, why?
Could problem be in my memory chips?
    And:
In DxDiag-file, why there said that in display devices: Current Mode: 1920 x 1200 (32 bit) (59Hz) ?? Should it be 64Bit be cause displaycard is 64Bit??
So many questions and so many possibilities...
Thank you very much and sorry all my weird question but I´m about to explode becauise of this stupid machine!!! Arg!
Sometimes I think that it would be better live in stoneage...

  • Correct CS3 serial# not accepted with CS4 upgrade on MBP 10.8

    Hello,
I am using original discs with serial number stickers for CS3 extended and CS4 on a 2008 MBP with 10.8.
    Problem1:
While still having CS3 installed, and  reinstalling CS4, the correct serial # request of pre upgrade version CS3 was repeatedly rejected.
So I removed everything Adobe from HD, ran Adobe cleaner which found nothing.
    Problem2:
Now I am unable to install CS3 as I get "problem with installation, contact Adobe" message...
I manually removed everything Adobe related from HD to no avail.
Who has the know how to solve this conundrum?
    Thank you for your help,
    Cordially, Arjen

Just a possible idea of what might be going on...
Don't I recall that with 10.8 you now can ONLY run 64 bit code?  Apple is pretty ruthless about leaving older versions of things behind without support.
Is it possible Adobe had 32 bit code somewhere in the installers for older versions, designed to work on Macs running OSs that ran both 32 and 64 bit code?  Have you seen anyone able to install a version of Photoshop older than CS6 on Mountain Lion?

  • Lot of problems with CS4.

Okay... well, i recently upgraded to Flash CS4, and im having a lot of annoying problems with it so far. Can the pencil tool stop straightening out my curves and make it look like i carved it? The Smoothing setting seems to be disabled and locked at 50, and twiddling in the Drawing settings in Preferences didnt do any good. Also, With the new motion tweening method, how do you create a new keyframe after the motion tween? Not a blank keyframe but a keyframe with the symbol in the new tweened position? It seems to be greyed out.

    1.  in the tools panel, after clicking the pencil, a pencil mode icon will appear at the base of the panel. you can use one of 3 settings.
    2.  the cs4 tweening engine is different than previous flash versions.  to learn how to tween using the cs4 tweening engine:  http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play?id=88

  • Printing problems with CS4.

    Dear members:
After several attempts to print black-and-white photos in Photoshop CS4 I decided to give up and seek help.
I have followed the steps I believe are the right ones and the same I have used before with previous versions of Photoshop. First I applied the command Image > Adjustments > Black & White ... and my color photo became black-and-white on screen. I made an attempt to print but the print came out looking blueish (as if it had some kind of blue duotone applied to it). Second I tried the same settings and also set the printer (an Epson R 1800 photo printer) to black instead of color. Again the same result. In my last attempt I converted the image using the same command above (Image > Adjustments > Black & White ...), then I used the command Image > Adjustments > Desaturate and after that I applied the command Image > Mode > Grayscale. In addition to all these steps I also entered black in the printer dialog box instead of color. Still the print came out blueish just as it had before.
What must one do to "convince" Photoshop to print a color photo as a true black-and-white image ?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Joseph

Thanks Milenium. I appreciate your response. Yes I do work in RGB. The profile is sRGB IEC 61966-2.1( The same as for all the photos) The monitor profile (Sony SDM-HS95P-DVI-D) is set at the system as well as the HP printer profile. I would like to update what has happened since my last post:
I reinstalled CS3 and installed a Canon Pixima 9000. The Cannon was just as much a mess as the HP vibrant colors and dark muddy prints, but the Canon had another problem...It was shifting red-magenta to yellow -orange However what I learned is that CS3 and CS4 were sharing some functions and settings even though I had the syncronization function turned off I.E, color settings, and working space. I couldn't bother with the Canon and since it was a loaner I took it out of the equationfor the time being. Next I read a post from 2004 on some web site from folks who were having similar problems with CS3 and HP printers( I never had a problem with this combo and as previously mentioned I do a great deal of wide printing with pretty good gosh darn results) Howerer, a poster said that she went into the system printer profile and deleted any profile there, then set up CS3 with no color management, and set the print function on the HP at application managed color( which she believed to be HP's no color management at the printer if if no color management is selected in photoshop. KInd of makes sense, she attained a 90% improvement in her prints. Well I gave it a shot and set everything up just as she suggested including the deleting of all the system printer files and got the same results as she did in back in 2004. A step foward I hope. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. My next step would be to remove Design Premium and see if that has any effect on restoring CS3 to it's previous standard vanilla set up of let the printer manage the color with the sRGB IEC 61966-2 profile.

  • Serious problem with CS4. Hard to describe...

I just got the CS4 upgrade. I have a zillion sites that
worked fine in CS3 and before. When I work on, save, and upload
pages on these sites now, I first get an error about there being a
duplicate Head area on the page, and then when I upload it, I get
    this:
    http://www.schaefergreenhouses.com/online-flowers/WW-202.html
Here's what the top is supposed to look like:
    http://www.schaefergreenhouses.com/online-flowers/WW-303.html
See all the garbage at the top? What is that? I can't tell.
This has something I'm assuming to do with Templates, I don't
know. Last night I spent the whole night re-building pages to fix
this. I had to take the existing page, open a new one based on the
same template, copy/paste over the info, and re-save to get it to
    work again.
I have 4 sites that are setup the exact same way for this
client, and I went in to another site, opened a page, re-assigned
the template (I had the wrong one on that page), and when uploaded,
back came the gibberish. So, something has changed in CS4 that is
going to cause me some serious headaches.
There is an Advanced Open Window extension on the pages, of
which I made sure was the current version. There is nothing else
weird, except a simple SSI include for the top bar. Which is now
gone, so is that the issue?
I'm clueless, and I just can't believe I have to literally
spend the next 2 days re-building pages on this other site (which
is 4 times the size), plus all the others, plus possibly all my
other sites! I do not want to have to keep CS3, that is idiotic.
Any ideas? Since it's at the top, and I can't see the SSI
    thing, is that it?

Look at the source code generate, you will see this after a
    load of
    javascript:
    </script><!-- InstanceEndEditable
    --></head><!-- InstanceEnd --></html>
The closing html tag should only be at the end of the page.
Then you have some javascript that has &lt;!-- instead of
    <!-- and the
same with its closing //--&gt; which should eb //-->
Then you have yet another opening html tag, and another
    opening head tag.
A little but further down down you have your google analytics
    code after
the closing head tag, it should be before that really.
All these problems are nothing to do with CS4. If you are
    using SSI's
then make sure there is no opening and closing head or html
    tags.

  • Color problem with ProPhoto RGB color space

    Hi, everyone,
I have wery special problem I think. I use MacBook pro 15" with retina display, adobe Photoshop CC and when I export RAW (from Nikon D7000) from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop with settings: 16 bit TIF, color space: ProPhoto RGB I have a problem with displaying the correct colors. As you can see in this picture:
My problem are some "green" artefacts in absolutely black and white picture. I tried myself to solve this problem and found the following facts: when I convert picture into Adobe RGB or sRGB color space is everything OK - without green artefacts.
But here is one important fact: I have calibrated monitor by datacolor spyder4elite and problem with ProPhoto RGB incorrect color displaying is only when the color calibration configuration is loaded. When I change my display calibration to standard apple color LCD profile than is everything OK.
But using uncalibrated monitor and also Adobe RGB color space are no right solutions for me.
My question is why I have problem with displaying ProPhoto RGB color space in photoshop under calibrated monitor profile and can anybody help me please?
    Thanks for answers.

That's a classic example of the basic problem with 16 bit color. There is no solution that I know of.

  • Problem with CS4 activation using student users

    Hi,
I am working at a school and over the last few weeks we have rebuilt our network from a 2003/xp to 2008R2/Win7 network so have had to remake a lot of software packages. We have created and deployed CS4 with success across the network but seem to have an activation problem with a specific user type.
This user  type is with student accounts which use a seperate group policy to the staff accounts. When students log in and the PC has not had any CS4 programs started before, it comes up with the activation window prompting to start a trial (does not work) or activate with a serial number (also does not work), which should not happen as the serial is built into the deployment. When staff log in and run the software it works fine and activates with no problem. So this is not an activation issue, more of a technical issue.
This is causing a problem as for us to activate all of the CS4 software we have to log onto each pc as a staff member, open Photoshop (or another CS4 program), close it then log in as the student for it to work. (This is only needed once per PC, but is time consuming with over 400 computers.)
The only main difference between the staff and student accounts are that students use mandatory profiles (with roaming appdata) and staff use fully roaming profiles. There are other policies in place for students but none that I can see would stop the activation process from working.
So my question is, does anyone know what could be stopping this activation from working?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Still having the problem, anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? Im at a loss here, ive compared both policies for staff and students but can not work out whats causing the issue.

  • Video problem with CS4.2

I am having an unusual problem with my cs4 programs, noticed most within PPro and AE.  Quite frequently my entire monitor image will momentarily shift a few pixels down and to the right.  It will return to its correct alignment within less than a second.  Also, when I click on a menu item, the drop down menu will appear correctly for about a second then disappear until I run my cursor over the area where the menu should be.  At which point the menu will reappear one line at a time beneath the cursor.  When the item appears, I can activate it normally with one click of the mouse.  This also happens when I access my title screen, Media Encoder screen (from within PPro), etc.  The programs have also started freezing on me more frequently, requiring me to close out using Task Manager; sometimes even requiring a reboot.  Otherwise, the programs seem to function fine.
I operate in WinXP Pro and work in standard def with the following hardware (all drivers are up to date):
Asus p5q3 deluxe motherboard with 4gigs of memory
ATI Radeon HD 2900xt with 512mb of memory
         Matrox RT.x2
I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but I'm wondering if this sounds like a video card problem.  Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Bob,
You are correct. Once upon a time I had the Canopus DVStorm with Premiere 6.x and it worked great (and a DVRaptor before that). Then came Premiere Pro and the problems that the DVStorm had were insurmountable so I dumped it and got the RTX-100 which was reputed to be about as good as the DVStorm was in the past. Was I disappointed! It just did not work reliably, hangs, BSOD's, unresponsivess and then when PR CS2 came out you effectively had to get the RTX.2, which was paramount to throwing the RTX.100 down the drain. It seemed to me that with every new version of CSx you needed to get a new Matrox card at extravagant prices for what it offered and still had to wait very long for decent drivers to come out. It just wasn't worth the effort anymore. And when you look here at problems that people experience, the common denominator is usually the Matrox card. So, yes, I am glad I got rid of it and found a very useful purpose for the card: a doorstopper, which must have been the intention of the engineers to start out.
About Win7: No, I did not have any doubts at all, but in my case I was lucky enough to have a high level network consultant with all kinds of certificates and an impressive experience to advise me and he juist plain told me: "You DON'T want Vista!!! GET WIN7!!! I have been using it for several RC's and it is a revelation." Now after installing and using it for some time, I can only agree.

  • Problems with Mavericks upgrade?

Thinking about uprgrading to Mavericks, but have been coming across a lot of threads/reviews about people losing date and/or having real problems with the process. It's been a while since I've been here, and just wanted to ask for an opinion/advice.  I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Should I stay away from it, or if I do, what advice/tips do you have for a smooth upgrade?
OR -- is it possible to get Mountian Lion Somewhere?  I looked for it in the app store, but couldn't find it.  I heard some negative reviews about Lion, so I just kept Snow Leopard, rather than take any chances with a new OS.

Mavericks is excellent on my MBP 8,2. Fast and flawless. Faster than Mountain Lion.
New features I like: iBooks, iCloud keychain, enhanced dictation.
    A few things to consider:
Any new OS has some bugs and incompatibilities with old software and hardware. If you are uncomfortable with basic Mac troubleshooting, then perhaps waiting would be a better strategy. I didn't have any problems, with installation or after.
If you have any mission-critical software or peripherals, make sure they are compatible first. Check your apps for compatability here: RoaringApps - Application compatibility and feature support for OS X and iOS
Mavericks does not play well with some old/bad software and hardware:
Crapware: anything that purports to "clean", "monitor", "protect", or "accelerate"  your mac. Unnecessary on Macs and often harmful. Examples: CleanMyMac and MacKeeper (the King of Crapware).
    antivirus software. Unnecessary on Macs.
    WD hard drives.
    Before you install Mavericks:
backup your old system, either with Time Machine, or better yet, a bootable backup.
have enough RAM. The specs say 2GB, but 4 is probably a more realistic minimum.
uninstall Crapware, antivirus software, and any other junk you don't need.
repair your hard drive and permissions with Disk Utility
boot into safe mode, and then run the installer Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
ML is available here: OS X Mountain Lion - Apple Store (U.S.)

  • Problems with Vista upgrade on Moduslink

'COA invalid', 'Irrecoverable Error', 'Alert not Implemented'... these are kind of messages I get from Moduslink. I'm not expecting to reply my emails since they are in neck-deep.
I love my A100 SAA9E, a very stable and powerful machine. I'm from London and have selected all the right options, but it would either come up with a random COA prob, or an error after my penultimate step.
    What can I do? Help.
    Shawn

I was unable to complete the Vista upgrade via the Moduslink on Toshiba's website http://wwww.toshiba-europe.com/vista-upgrade, even though I got to paying for the upgrade with my credit card. When my payment was being processed I got an 'unrecoverable error', so I went back to repeat the process and this time the site didn't recognize my COA on the bottom of the laptop.
I contacted Moduslink via the following Tel No. 00800 666 44 666 (UK) and spoke to one of their support staff (choose options 5 and then 8). There is a problem with their site excepting payments from credit or debit cards. The representative reset my COA, but it takes 48 hours for it to clear (so much from electronic data communications to servers). I have been told to retry the upgrade process again on Friday 16/02/2007, however, this time to pay either by wireless transfer from my bank or send a cheque.
Hopefully, this will help others who were frustrated with the Vista upgrade debacle. It would be more appropriate however, if the company concerned, Modulink, resolved the issue in the 1st place. Firstly by informing their customers that there was an issue, secondly on a work around to the problem and finally fixing the problem. Will commonsense ever prevail?

I am being told that my current version of firefox is no longer protected. When I tried to upgrade to firefox 4 some time ago, the menu bar(?) was gone--no bookmarks. I set my computer back to an earlier date to get my book marks back and have been afraid to attempt this upgrade again. Firefox also appears to have tried to do the upgrade automatically and says I have incompatible add-ons. I have never had problems with previous updates. I have read negative reviews of firefox 4 and am frankly afraid of it. I hate to leave firefox and am afraid of losing my book marks as well. I find the "Help" forums etc. here extremely difficult to navigate and they seem to be aimed at people who are more tech savy than many of us are.
