Color problems with miniport to HDMI?

Hi, and thanks for reading.
I'm not very familiar with Macs, so I'm hoping the problem I'm having is straightforward.  My wife has a MacBook Pro with v. 10.6.7 OSX and I just got a Kanex miniport to HDMI cable to connect it to our Westinghouse 720p LCD TV (SK-26H240S).  The plug and play connection worked fine, and I can use the display in either clone or extended desktop mode, but the color is all wrong.  I've tried changing all the settings on the TV and I've tried calibrating the color profile in system preferences, but nothing seems to work.  I can get all sorts of different wrong colors, but not the right color.  It seems like the data being transmitted for either white or black is wrong: a gray screen on the laptop shows up as blue on the display.
I have seen a number of other issues posted here about using these adaptors, but as far as I can tell, they are intermittent problems, whereas mine is always having the same problem.  Any ideas out there?
Many thanks
<edit>I just noticed the laptop makes a humming noise ( ! ) when the cable is plugged in.  Probably a red herring, but thought I'd mention it as it seemed kind of weird.

I seem to have the same problem but mine will display my background screensaver. what should i do. it won't show anything else? Thanks ahead of time.
You have a different issue, which is probably not actually a problem. When you connect the TV, the Mac probably thinks of it as an external monitor to add space to your desktop. If so, it won't show what's on the laptop monitor because that's a separate area...but you can drag windows over there to the new monitor. What you are seeing is not any screen saver, but your desktop background, since you've added to your desktop.
If you want to see the same thing on both monitors, turn on mirroring with the displays icon in the menu bar. To customize how the Mac uses your external TV/monitor, use the Displays preference. There you can switch mirroring on or off, and also tell the Mac how the monitors are arranged.
If you turn on mirroring, the screen might not exactly fill the TV since it is probably a different resolution than the laptop screen, but under mirroring you can use only one resolution.

  • [SOLVED]Problem with sound in HDMI

    Hello good society of Arch
Now I have problems with sound from HDMI. I use Arch as an tvPc, wasting movies and tv shows on it. I use ALSA and it works well, except of a few files that I have, then there is picture but sound is either twisted or not played at all. It does not matter whether I use vlc or mplayer, I'm experiencing the same problem.
I have not found anything about this with google, other problems have been either hdmi sound working or not, not like it is with me, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.
I know that the files are ok, I can play them in anther pc I have (also using Arch on that pc).
Does anybody know what the problem might be? What do I have to look at to find out what the problem is? This have been like this for some time now, but I haven't looked into it before, because I don't use TV that muts, but the wife does and when she stats blaming Arch, I have too do something about it.
I have never encountered problem with Arch that i cant solve by using this forum and google
    Thanks

  • Problem with Displayport and HDMI on 15pro Late2013

I just got a new 15pro few days ago(the one with 750M video card)
When I trying to connect it to my external monitor(DELL U2913WM 2560 x 1080) by miniDisplayport(to miniDP port), everything shown on my external monitor looks like I'm using a VGA cable instead. All images and texts are not clear.
I have another windows PC, whcih is using HDMI-HDMI with this monitor, everything are very clear. ==> No problem with the HDMI cable and monitor.
Then I tried to connect my MBP with HDMI-HDMI cable, both screen went dark for every 3 second peroid(and it is still not clear when the screen is on), again and again
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Thanks, I finally find the same question here, posted a year ago.

But there is still no solutions today.
Thanks God! I found a way to solve that.

  • Color problem with ProPhoto RGB color space

    Hi, everyone,
I have wery special problem I think. I use MacBook pro 15" with retina display, adobe Photoshop CC and when I export RAW (from Nikon D7000) from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop with settings: 16 bit TIF, color space: ProPhoto RGB I have a problem with displaying the correct colors. As you can see in this picture:
My problem are some "green" artefacts in absolutely black and white picture. I tried myself to solve this problem and found the following facts: when I convert picture into Adobe RGB or sRGB color space is everything OK - without green artefacts.
But here is one important fact: I have calibrated monitor by datacolor spyder4elite and problem with ProPhoto RGB incorrect color displaying is only when the color calibration configuration is loaded. When I change my display calibration to standard apple color LCD profile than is everything OK.
But using uncalibrated monitor and also Adobe RGB color space are no right solutions for me.
My question is why I have problem with displaying ProPhoto RGB color space in photoshop under calibrated monitor profile and can anybody help me please?
    Thanks for answers.

That's a classic example of the basic problem with 16 bit color. There is no solution that I know of.

  • Sync problems with ATV per HDMI and optical out

Have some sync problems with ATV (actual), TV is connected via HDMI, sound goes over optical cable into DAC (Rega) and then to the amplifier, when using only TV-sound everything is fine, switching to the external speakers brings up a little delay, around 1/10 second. Any chance to fix this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I believe this delay is caused by the DAC, I don't think there is anything you can do about this.

  • Strange problem with mac mini hdmi, denon avr 3310 and itunes

    Hello,
I just bought the new mac mini with HDMI. It is connected via HDMI to my receiver Denon AVR 3310. The receiver shows that it has "multi channel in" on the display.
I made all the configurations so that i can watch dvd an the mac mini. When i play a movie with Dolby Digital the receiver does show that on the display and playback is possible without any problems. I hear sound on all my 5.1 speakers.
The big problem is with iTunes. When I want to watch rented series, for example Dr. House, only 2 speakers of my 5.1 are used. And when I change to surround in iTunes I can only hear static noise.
What is the problem? Did I make a wrong configuration or is something wrong with iTunes?
    Thanks in advance

Great news! My Mac mini is sending true 5.1 to my reciever through the HDMI cable! Okay so here's my list of gear.
    MAC MINI 2011 2.5 i5 8gb ram
Using a quality audioquest hdmi I have connected my Mac mini to my Denon 1712 Reciever. I have connected this hdmi cable into hdmi port entitled game 2. I have connect my reciever to my tv with a monster 1000 hdx thx certified hdmi cable. It has a transmission sped of 17 gb or so...meaning it can handle transmitting 3d...if only I had a 3d tv.
Okay so that's the gear. Now onto the changes in audio midi. Open audio midi and Simply change it to 48000 hz and to 2 channel 16 bit integer. That's all I did and now it works. Before I had it set to 8 channel 24 bit and when I pulled up my surround sound options I could pretty much only get multi channel stereo. Now I can get several Dolby choices.
The voices are coming out of the center speaker and all the action is coming out of the other speakers....so in other words 5.1 surround sound has been achieved on my Mac mini 2011 which has Lion on it.
I have tested this with iTunes and Netflix. Both are in 5.1 and sound great. In iTunes I have tested both music and digital copies of movies. Both worked flawlessly.
Rejoice Mac mini owners 5.1 surround is now possible over your Mac mini 2011 edition with just an hdmi cable to your reciever. You can throw away that toslink cable becuase now you don't need it!
I hope this works for you. Remember not all hdmi cables and the same holds true for your reciever. If it does not work consider getting either audioquest or monster....everything else is junk.

  • Serious color problems with Lightroom

    Hello,
I purchased lightroom this week and I am having a serious problem importing images. I am using a new Macbook Pro with OS Snow leopard. My camera is a Canon 1ds Mark2.
When I import files half of them have this awful deep orange cast over them.
If you look at the thumbnails some of the frames are normal and then the next few turn orange, all shot within seconds of each other in the same place, no WB change on the camera or anything. What is this, a bug in Lightroom? I dont experience this problem with Photomechanic or Photoshop.

It doesn't sound like you know what actually caused the problem. What happens if you 'delete' (i.e. remove from LR only) some of the previous "orange" pictures and try to reimport them into LR?
I understand that you are new to Lightroom – Welcome aboard! Your first step after learning the basic controls in LR is to adjust your 'Camera Default Settings' in the Develop module to better suit your workflow. I suspect you are using your camera with 'Auto White Balance' (AWB) set, which is inappropriate for RAW file format. Reason: If your LR Develop module white balance control is set to anything other than 'As Shot,' then pictures shot under different color temperature lighting will take on different color casts (i.e. orange, blue). The controls you have in LR (White Balance eye dropper) can help you to better determine the white balance settings for a particular shoot, and easily apply them uniformally across multiple pictures. This will provide better results than using AWB on any camera!
I use a ColorChecker Passport to create custom camera profile and white balance develop presets for 'Daylight,' 'Cloudy,' Tungsten,' etc. for each of my camera bodies. Therefore I never use 'As Shot' white balance setting, and never have this kind of problem. My default camera setting uses the ColorChecker custom 'Daylight' preset, which I can change to a different preset for any photo session that was not shot under normal daylight conditions. If you want good color control of your images, you should not rely on the 'Auto White Balance' setting on your camera (especially for JPEGs!). You don't need a ColorChecker to adjust your camera body's color temperature in LR, but it helps and also creates a full custom camera profile! I own three Canon camera bodies and they all produce slightly inacurrate white balance using LR's 'Daylight' white balance setting with high-noon sunny daylight pictures. I suggest you determine and create your own custom white balance settings in LR for daylight and then change your camera default to these settings. You can also create custom develop presets for Cloudy, Tungsten. etc., which can be applied to specific shooting sessions as a better "starting point" for white balance.
Do a little research on using Lightroom's White Balance Eyedropper tool – Here's one link:

  • Color problems with previews

during my 30 day trial of LR, LR developed a problem with the color displayed of any files(jpeg or raw) that I imported into the program. the reds and oranges seemed to be way over saturated .if I exported the unedited file to any other location the photo would look fine. if I edited the file to look right when I exported it it looked way off. I was loving the way the program worked for the first week but it became unuseable after that. Im using a canon 40d and the problem occures when importing directly from the camera or fron any folders on my pc running xp .... any thoughts???

    >Odd how it could look fine with windows and others but really off with LR.
None of the others typically color manage, so they don't use the profile. Also, a large number of the icc profiles that are shipped with display drivers for windows ar corrupt out of the box (really strange but true) so you're usually better off just deleting them. That said, if you want good color you basically have to actually calibrate. Using sRGB is a very bad alternative. You need to calibrate using real calibration hardware for good color and use color managed apps wherever you can (Lightroom, Photoshop, Safari, Firefox with the secret setting enabled, but NOT internet explorer or windows picture viewer. They never show you the actual color.

  • Bizarre color problem with macmini

I just bought a mac mini intel. And have it hooked up to a JVC hdtv with DVI-DVI.
In some windows. Everything is blue and yellow. No reds show up. But it's completely erratic.
For instance: On the dock, all logos look fine. When I launch front row (just the opening screen) everything is blue and yellow.
Most photo's go blue and yellow in iphoto. but display fine in front row sometimes.
The open, close, minimize logos are always the correct colors. Even if the info within the window is not.
This is not a monitor problem. Or a cable hookup issue. It's either software/color profile. Or hardware.
Do anyone know how to fix this? Apple is clueless.

That's a classic example of the basic problem with 16 bit color. There is no solution that I know of.

  • Thunderbolt port color problems with panasonic plasma tv

I have a MBP 17" latest model. When I connect my Panasonic 50" Plasma via Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor through a Western Digital 6TB Thunderbolt hard drive, the colour is very pink/purple. If I plug the HDMI adaptor to the Panasonic direct to the MBP Thunderbolt port, bypassing the hard drive port, the color is fine. Any solutions guys?

Did you find a solution to this issue? I have the same issue now after years of no problem using the mini display port to DVI through a drive.

  • Color Problems with CS4 Upgrade

I recently upgraded to CS4 and have been experiencing the following problem. When I open an image from ACR to PS CS4 it looks absolutely nothing like it did in ACR. If I was to describe it, it would be that the image has an overall red tint when viewed in CS4. If I then save this image as a PSD file, and then open it in PS CS3 it matches the CS4 ACR image. So, what have I got set wrong in PS CS4 (which is still all of the default settings)?

I've used dual monitors for many years. I see absolutely no change when moving any image from one monitor to another in Photoshop 7.0.1 through 11 (CS4). Photoshop is smart enough to read the profile for each monitor on the fly.
HI> Although I'm new to the Mac platform, that has been my experience also.
Even when I place half of the image in one monitor and the other half in the other one, Photoshop uses the correct monitor for each respective half of the image.
HI> I agree, for CS3 and Lightroom that is how it works for me too.
My response to Ray's question ("Where does photoshop assign a primary monitor?") has absolutely nothing to do with monitor profiles, only with which monitor will be the primary monitor, i.e. the one that hosts the menu bar with the Apple menu.
That is what you can change in the Display Preferences > Arrangement (Mac System Preferences).
HI> Correct and I agree. But I believe Ray had that setup correctly to begin with, unless I did not understand him.
The one thing that did change in CS4 is that image files now will always open on the primary monitor. In previous versions of Photoshop, you could just move an image to the secondary monitor, close it, and it or the next image would open on your secondary monitor too. That is not possible in CS4, at least in the current version.
    HI> My observation as well.
However, the monitor profile used on each monitor respectively remains the correct one as set in Display Preferences > Color.
Photoshop knows how to apply each monitor profile to each monitor, unless the user has messed that up in Display Preferences > Color.
HI> As stated, CS3 and Lightroom do apply colors correctly. CS4 does not.
In Edit > Color Settings, you should be set to the Adobe Color Engine (ACE), not to Color Sync.
HI> All my observations with CS4 have used ACE. I was getting frustrated and the ColorSync thing was an experiment to see if anything changed.
In my experience, the Apple CMM, Color Sync, has been unreliable for a long time. I just avoid it. (There are other legitimate uses for the ColorSync Utility, such as repairing profiles [Profile First Aid], visualizing and comparing their gamuts, etc.)
If both monitors are accurately calibrated and profiled, and if the appropriate monitor profiles are selected for each monitor separately in Display Preferences > Color, Photoshop will use them correctly on each monitor, in my experience.
HI> CS4 does not seem to work the same way. In fact, if you bring up the images in Bridge CS4 on my setup, the filmstrip version of the image will have the proper color profile (when I move it back and forth from one monitor to the other) and the selected preview image will not! I believe this is a bug in CS4! CS4 should apply the same color profile to each image in Bridge regardless of which monitor I move the window to.
Something is going wrong in Ray's setup, but there are not enough details to tell what. Screen shots of all the settings would be helpful.
HI> I'm not sure how your monitors are setup. Perhaps you have two monitors that are nearly the same and therefore your color profiles are close enough to not see the difference that Ray and I see. My monitors are setup correctly and I believe that Ray's are too.
Even the cheapest calibrator puck will produce a more accurate profile than can be achieved through Apple's built-in or any other eyeball calibrator like SuperCal.
HI> I use Graytag McBeth. However, even if I did not use any calibration, I should see the same results in the same window for Bridge CS4, regardless of how far the profiles were off! Comparing that with CS3 and Lightroom makes me believe that this is a software bug in CS4 not a setup issue.

  • Color problem with telephone number in footer.

In the footer of my web page I entered a phone number and set the color. On the desktop the color is perfect but when you view it in a mobile device it changes the color to white. I am using Dreamweaver CS6 any help would be appreciated. Thx Rick

You can disable this feature for Apple devices by using
    <meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=no">
You could also apply a span with a class around the phone number and then target that in the CSS - Apple devices make it a link so it would be something like the below:
    <span class="iOS">01 234 567 8910</span>
    .iOS a { /* styles here */ }
Or you could make it a link yourself by using the tel attribute:
    <a href="tel:+112345678910">01 234 567 8910</a>
    a[href^="tel:"] { /* styles here */ }

  • Colors problems with exporting

I Use Lightroom 2.3 on a windows XP system. My computer has 2 XPs operating system. On my main active partition, the exported photos are bad in colors whatever the program i use to show them. Colors are fine in the Lightroom viewer. I use sRVB in lightroom's preferences. I have an N'vidia card, and use "color wizard" to etalonate my two screens.
Both sceens render the same, (slight difference in contrast), greys are Ok from black to white on a internet chart. What can i do ?
Also, This new lightroom is terrificly slow on my Athlon XP 3200+ and crashes sometimes, 1.4 was nice on this point of view.
Attached, a screencopy of the two renderings: on the left the exported image, on the right the image seen in Lightroom.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks a lot, Dorin. I tried, but it does not change nothing.
I'm using "ColorWizzard" witch is an independant program. What can i do, without his help to tune my screens ?
I do not understand a single word of those color settings, how they work, how programs use them and wonder why they made that stuff so complicated.  I do not know what is the color setting is used and why Lightroom is not working like others...
For the moment, i have erased all color profile: i have only one ICC profile: sRVB Color Space Profile. All other images  applications works (and worked before) ok with my settings except Lightroom.
Please, explain me. I don't understand. i have calibrated my screens. I export for the web with SRGB color profile. Right ? What i see in lightroom is suposed to be seen across my calibrated screen. Right ? When it export he does not have to use any other profile ? The image i look at is seen across the same screen, right ? So what the hell is doing this expensive and $£µ§@# program ?
[edit] i had tried a lot of random changes. Now i'm with two bad tuned screens (thanks Lightroom). But something is interesting. If i move any viewer with a photo inside, it is quite similar from one screen to an other. If i move lightroom, the image comes from normal to white key !
    Worse ans worse.

  • Color problems with duo monitor (MPB and 24' Cinema Display)

I have a new 24' Cinema Display attached to my 15' macBook pro 2.66 (not the new one with the SD slot) and I keep getting weird colors on the MBP display.
Here is a screengrab from the MBP. The main display is fine. What is my MBP screen experiencing?!
    http://www.madreview.com/images/screengrab.jpg
You can ell the colors are off on Tiger Woods on the bottom and on the background. Please help.

If I may jump in, I have almost the same question and would like to clarify the Cmd-F1 suggestion. (I'm looking at buying the 24" LED for my slightly older MBP with max resolution 1440x900.) If one runs this monitor in extended desktop mode, you can reach the max resolution for the monitor, if I understand correctly, but is some of your "desktop" then spread across your built-in MBP LCD? That's less useful than having the entire 24" available for keeping multiple windows open.
Just want to understand whether this is really worth it! Thanks, and PMFJI.
