Color profiles not shown on colorsync

Hello...
I have been looking for a solution to this issue for the last 2 weeks without success... may be somebody knows about it ?
Using Mac Os 10.4.11 on an Intel based Mac recently formatted (with the original cd), the color profiles existing on the folder user/library/colorsync or hd/library/colorsync does not appear on the ColorSync utility, under "profiles". So, basicaly, the ColorSync utility does not show any profile by selecting  "profiles" and, of course, clicking the little triangle.
As I was not able to see the icc profiles installed with the printer driver on the print dialog on photoshop, I  get the profiles on hd/library/printers/epson/inkjet printer/icc profiles, right click on the model and "show content", and then included them in hd/library/application Support/adobe/color/profiles.
By doing this, I´m able to use that profiles printing from photoshop. But I´m not happy at all with the solution, as colorsync is still not working as it must be.
Now, I´m trying to calibrate the monitor. And after calibrating, the profile created on -system preferences---display---color----claibrate-, is not shown under "display profile" on that application.  I think this is part of the same problem.
Is there an expert able to give me a hand on this? How can fix it, in order to see the profiles on Colorsync, found them on photoshop and also create display profiles??

OK, we're making progress, it just seems to be some User setting/pref file, trouble is, while most are in the User's Library>Prefs, not all are.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.ColorSyncDeviceList.<12 digitHexNumber>.plist
(There may be more than one of the above to move)
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSyncUtility.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSyncCalibrator.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ColorSync.Droplet.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Monitor color profile - not converting sRGB to local color profile.

I used Color Eyes Pro to color calibrate my monitor.
When I view sRGB images in FF4, they don't display properly (not converting to my local color profile). Images I save as my local profile as imgs, appear fine in FF4. This applies to both JPGs and PNGs.
IE and Chrome have no issues with view sRGB. Local color profile imgs of course appear correct.

  • Custom color profiles not showing as available in InDesign CC

This is a college graphic design lab environment with iMacs running 10.9.4 and the CC versions of Adobe programs
We have a variety of custom color profiles for our specific printers and media.  They're located in a special folder and an alias of that folder is located in /Library/Colorsync/profiles.  The profiles in that folder do not show up  as available for selection in InDesign CC.  They did before the upgrade to the CC version.  They do show up in Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 and Illustrator CC.  Is this a known InDesign flaw?  Any ideas for a fix... preferably one that doesn't involve moving the profiles?
    Thanks

I had the same issue when playing with my Xerox Phaser 6110 profiled with colormunki. All software except Aperture (3.0.3) recognized the profile (Color Sync, Print dialog, Preview soft-proffing, even LR 3b2). I too tried all possible locations and none worked.
Then I opened the profile in ColorSync, and edited (Profiles -> Xerox... -> Open ->'desc' tag) Ascii and unicode descriptions to read aaa.icc and did a Save As aaa.icc and there it was, available in Aperture, too.
To my great disappointment the soft-proof feature in Aperture seems to be broken for some monitor/printer profile combinations, and is compatibly broken for printing from Aperture. What happens is the resulting image is way too degraded, even beyond the (admittedly crappy) photo printing capabilities of this printer.
IOW printing the same JPG via Preview and/or soft-proofing with the printer's profile yields way more consistent results. Totally unacceptable for a €200 piece of software.

  • LR2.2: Color Profiles NOT 5D Mark II compatible

in Lightroom 2.2, Is anyone else noticing 5D Mark II RAW files do not render accurately with the color profiles? (adobe standard, camera standard) The reds are very-very orange again.
    I have a 1D Mark III, and a 5D Mark II.
The new profiles work very well with the 1D Mark III, almost matching what I see in DPP.
With the 5D Mark II, all the colors are off.
When compared with DPP, The 5D Mark II colors seem as bad as other canon cameras before the beta profiles. Reds seem orange again, etc... Although some profiles seem more accurate (like "faithful").
So Adobe... are you seeing this issue? Would it be possible to get a confirmation? I'll happily provide RAW files, with jpg conversions out of LR and DPP
    thanks!

    >How can you tell if Highlight tone priority was on during the shot?
You should be able to tell in DPP. I don't use DPP but I am sure it has a display of all the settings you used in your camera.
    >And if Highlight Tone priority keeps lightroom from accurately rendering color, wouldn't that be a lightroom issue?
No, it is a Canon proprietary tag and Canon-proprietary technology so Adobe cannot implement it precisely. Only DPP can read and implement these settings in its RAW conversion. Nobody else can without either licensing the technology or doing some major reverse engineering (which likely will end up with you being sued by Canon). It is basically the same as underexposing the image a little and pulling it back up with a curve adjustment with a smooth rolloff at the high end.

  • Lightroom export color profiles not working as expected...

I'm trying to produce an image for a commercial printing service using the colour profile they provide.  I get the image looking the way I want in Lightroom and export it to a jpg with the printing service's printer profile.  As far as I understand it, this should give me a jpg that they can print to give me something that matches what I see on my monitor.
To test what I'm doing, I brought the jpg up in photoshop, and used the view/proof setup/custom to proof the jpg with the service's colour profile.  I thought that doing this would show me the same image in photoshop that I had in Lightroom.  That doesn't seem to be the case.  The colour balance is about right, but the saturation and densities are out -- the photoshop version show less contrast.
So, is there something wrong, or am I misunderstanding the way color profiles work?
    Thanks for any info.
    Doug

To use the profile for softproof, that is viewing it on a calibrated monitor in the profile. You can either try the new softproofing plug in, or open the file from LR into PS in whatever you usual working colour space is (I would suggest ProPhoto) do not at this stage attach the profile.. In photoshop go to View, Proof setup, custom. In the Device to Simulate, select the profile, then choose either Perceptual or Saturation in rendering intent. Check black point compensation and bioth Simulate Paper color and Black ink, if these are available (this depends on the profile). You will now be viewing the image as it will be when printed as long as your screen is accurately calibrated. You can also select gamut warning under view and see which colours lay outside the gamut of the profile.
Whe you have finished just save the file. Export from the print module from LR with the profile attached and send to your printer.

  • How to assign color profile to scanner in ColorSync Utility?

    Hi,
I have run into trouble when trying to assign a color profile of my Epson 2480 flatbed scanner. I have a profile that came with the drivers, but every time I try to click on the device and change the Current Profile, the list of profiles available in the system Profiles folder only shows Apple generic profiles. I can't change the Default profile either (the blue dot next to the device profile list).
What can I do to change this? If you don't know the answer, can you point me to the best (in your opinion) forum where those issues are frequently discussed?
I'll continue my research in the meantime...

    OK, I answered myself...
ColorSync Utility was by default looking in the System/Library/ instead of the main Library/ directory. The path is almost identical and I got fooled by this.

  • LR 4.4 D7100 color profile not accurate

I have been unhappy with the colors from raws on my new D7100. It's bad enough it has banding and color cast issues within dark shadows but today I decided to do a test against my D90 and ViewNX and the results conclude what I have been seeing. There is too much yellow and a lack of magenta in the converted raws with LR. Here is an example. I'm considering sending it back until this is resolved. Copy and paste the link into your browse I can't seem to be able to paste a working copy of it into this post. I remember when I first got my D80 how bad the color profile was, I had to shoot Jpegs for highend kitchens because I couldn't get the wood tones to look correct. Eventually the profile got updated.

You make a camera profile by taking a picture of an XRite Color Checker, either classic or pocket sized, standard color target and feeding a DNG of that into either the Adobe DNG Profile Editor or XRite’s Passport software.
You can make a dual-illuminate profile, using a pair of 2600K and 6500K WB images, or you can make single-illuminant ones that work mainly for one lighting situation, studio shots at a fixed location.  I have a dual-illuminant one and several single-illuminant ones for when the Tint is quite a bit different than zero or the lighting has an uneven spectrum or is extreme—arena lighting, fluorescent, mercury-vapor, sodium-vapor.   The profiles made this way tend to produce saturated colors and do not have the hue-twists built into them like those made from Adobe.
You can also use something like Imatest to check how accurate the colors are.

I have both a CCPP and a CCC and use the CCPP more but that’s because I’m usually doing outdoor nature photography.  The CCC is larger and easier for someone to hold in a portrait or modeling situation:
Imatest is made for measuring all sorts of optical system characteristics.  I have the least expensive version and mainly just use the Color Check module of it.

You can also test color accuracy via free Photoshop scripts written by Rags-Gardner for use with various test charts:
    http://www.rags-int-inc.com/PhotoTechStuff/ColorCalibration/
R-G also has scripts that compute the optimum Hue/Sat slider values under the Camera Calibration area—this is how calibration was done before the DNG Profile Editor was created a few years ago.  The DPE and the sliders work on different parts of the color matrices so you can do them both if you want.

  • ICC Color Profile Not working bootcamp

    Hi,
I have a photobooth and am trying to get my sub-dye printer up and running on windows 8 bootcamp but when i load the icc color profile for it it doesn't seem to make a difference. Just wondering if its something to do with drivers thats stopping this from working or if anyone has come across this before. I have re-added it, removed and re-added printer etc but it just doesn't make a difference.
    Thanks

First thing I tried to do is delete and re-download new driver, but no luck.

  • Color Profile Not Applied After Reboot.

Hi guys, I posted this in the nZone forums, but no one replied, so I'm trying my luck here.
I created and saved a color profile named "Games", in which the brightness is set to a bit higher to compensate for dark games. Then in the Performance and Quality tab, I created a game profile named HL2 and associated hl2.exe with it. Switiching to Advanced settings in view, I changed the color profile to Custom - Games. After clicking Apply, starting Half-Life 2 or Counter Strike: Source will cause the brightness to be at an acceptable level.
However, after rebooting, the profile seems to have been forgotten. The game would run under the brightness I set my desktop at. The game profile is still there, however, remembered in the profile for the game under Performance and Quality. I would have to select the HL2 profile again and click Apply for it to take effect again. This happens EVERY time the machine reboots. I have uninstalled the drivers and manually deleted some files left behind, with Driver Cleaner Pro, and then reinstalled to no avail. Is there a way to fix this? This also happens to a profile I made for Guild Wars.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Specs: 6600 GT PCI-E with 84.21 drivers, running a Dell 2005FPW through the DVI connector.
    AMD 3000+ on Epox 9NPA+Ultra
    1 GB RAM
    160 GB SATA
And just as an experiment I installed Windows and Guild Wars on a 6 year old 8 GB hard drive. It was a clean install, with only drivers (mobo, GPU) and Guild Wars installed. Same thing happens. I even tried the 78.01 and 93.31 drivers. 93.31 wouldn't even allow custom color profiles for whatever reason.

Thanks for the reply Richard. I indeed tried the latest driver, 91.31. The new control panel was quite confusing. I managed to get to the performance and quality place, but there was no way to set a color profile to a specific game, so keeping the same drivers, I went back to the classic control panel. Color profiles can't seem to be applied for game profiles, as the value in the profile switches to a "0" every time I hit apply (read that some other guy on the nZone forums had the same issues). So as of now, I just use the 84.21 drivers and set the color profile manually in the taskbar.
By the way, does anyone else here set color profiles in their game profiles? If so, how's the experience?

  • New Color Profiles not showing up in Aperture3

I've spent hours trying to get Aperture3 to see a new proofing profile with no luck.
We use WHCC (White House Custom Color) for prints and discovered we were using an out of date icc profile for their printer. No big deal, just download the new icc profile and drop it in the ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder and... Nothing.
Here are the location's I've tried putting it with no luck:
    ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
    /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/
/System/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ +(yes I know you're not supposed to put anything in here, but it usually works and is a good place to put things you don't want users to tamper with)+
Putting the profile in any of these locations, the ColorSync Utility sees it just fine, but Aperture doesn't list it at all. I've rebooted, restarted, rebuilt my Library and fixed permissions with no change. Is there a specific .plist file I can destroy that will let Aperture re-discover the profiles on the system?
As a side effect of this process, I moved the old proofing profile to my Desktop. After the now one didn't work, I tried moving it back to see if Aperture would see it... It doesn't anymore. Oddly enough, Aperture does see the display profiles we created for the laptop with our Monaco.
Aperture 3.0.3 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3
I'd appreciate knowing if anyone has run into this, or has any advice.

I had the same issue when playing with my Xerox Phaser 6110 profiled with colormunki. All software except Aperture (3.0.3) recognized the profile (Color Sync, Print dialog, Preview soft-proffing, even LR 3b2). I too tried all possible locations and none worked.

  • Color Profiles Not Showing Up in Aperture 3

So, I use WHCC for my lab. They supply printer profiles. So far so good. I have put these profiles in both the system and user ColorSync Profiles folder. These profiles show up in my Color Sync Utility but they don't show up in Aperture??
    Now what?
    Thanks
PS- upgrading computers is a real PIA

    Keep fishing
I am using 10.6.7 and A3. The profiles are in both the ~/.../Profiles and Macintosh HD/Library/ etc... Permissions have been repaired along with running Disk Warrior. Here is where is gets really interesting, the same profiles are visible to Aperture (version 2) on my "old" G5 running Leopard. The profiles in that version of Aperture are also nicely sorted. On the new system (Mac Pro/Snow Leopard/ Aperture 3) they are NOT visible. AND, according to a WHCC representative (I talked to someone different this time), it is a "known" but undocumented issue.
Say what you will, so far I am not thrilled with this switch to Intel. It is very "un-Mac" like.
So now I just wait and see if WHCC updates their profiles or if I switch labs or if it even matters… once I get a calibrater that will work with Snow Leopard!
    <sigh>

  • Color profiles not working in snow leopard 10.6.2

I have got a new imac 27inch running snow leopard 10.6.2. It replaces my old Powermac G5 with 10.4 Since 10.1 (bought in 2002)I have had a photoshop/epson 9600 workflow doing all color management in photoshop and selecting no color management in the print driver. In 10.6.2 the colors on screen are fine but the printed output is very wrong it looks like the paper profile is being stripped out and replaced by srgb or something. What has apple done with color management in snow leopard and how can I get my print color back as the prints I now produce are unsaleable and I printing is my livelihood.

I am having the same problem. With ColorSync color management on, the prints come out muddy. If I select Canon for the color matching the prints turn out much better, but they're still a bit red. I'll be interested to see if they get this fixed.

  • Color profiles on export

I've searched these forums and google for a few hours without finding a concrete answer for this problem.
The problem is that, no matter what I do, every jpg I export from iphoto 08 seems to have the Adobe RGB color profile. This is contrary to what the docs say, which is that either the camera's profile (sRGB in this case) or "cameraRGB" (a variant of sRGB) should be used when "Embed ColorSync profile" is selected.
With Adobe RGB, all my photos look like garbage on any non-mac (since they aren't color profile aware and assume sRGB).
My photos originate as raw files from a Nikon D70. The D70 has sRGB set as its color profile. Using the ColorSync utility to change the camera from its original setting of cameraRGB to sRGB didn't make any difference. (As it shouldn't since they are essentially equivalent according to apple.)
Any way to fix this, or do I need to move on from iphoto? Would it make a difference if I wasn't working with raw?

    slive:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try looking for all occurrences of the AdobeRGB1998.icc profile on your HD, archive them in place and remove the original profile. This will let you replace them if you find they are needed at a later date for some other use. Then try some new shots from the camera, import, edit and export. See if that will let you avoid having the Adobe profile used upon exit.
There may be two or three on your Mac. You can find them with Spotlight.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
