Color/ shade difference

I'm having a bit of a problem. It seems that I can't view certain colors/ shades of colors. How do I adjust this? I know the colors are there because I can see these shades when I'm on a different user my computer, but my user can't view it. I guess I adjusted it unknowingly. And I know it's not the light, because I've tried changing it but I still can't view the colors... Can I reset it somehow to it's original settings? If so, how?
*I've already tried adjusting the display and color as well as the F1 and F2 buttons. I know it's not these because without changing them I switch to a different user and the shadings are different.

Hi Angel,
When you say you've tried adjusting the color, do you mean that you've gone to system preferences > Displays > Color and selected a different color profile? Check to see which profile is being used on the account that works correctly and make sure the same one is set on your other account.
Secondly, in System Preferences > Displays, make sure that your monitor is set to "millions" of colors. This is usually what people check. They often miss the color profile step described above.
Thirdly, go to System Preferences > Universal Access and make sure that the "Enhance Contrast" slider is set all the way to the left (normal).
If none of that works, it's likely that one of your preference files has been corrupted. Reply here and we'll walk you through deleting it.

If you select System Preferences>Displays. Set the Resolution to 1280x800
and the Colors to Millions. Click Colors and select Color LCD. See if that works.

  • Click+Hold a Color Swatch : Color-Shades float

I will use this image below just for an example.
I remember being able to click on a color and hold it for about two seconds and then a series of color-shades from the clicked-color will float on the side.
But now I can't seem to do it anymore. I've tried different Color Swatches, but it still doesn't work. Please help.

    Thank you Mylenium for responding.
Not exactly confusing the two programs, I'm aware that it's Illustrator Swatch, but I was confusing two different vendors altogether. What I was talking about was Corel Photopaint. Corel has that feature, and I suppose Ps doesn't have that. I realized this when I open CPp again.
    Thank you.

  • Substitute colors and color shades

We are looking at re-painting our house.  I have scanned in some of the colors we are thinking about.  I have taken some pics of our house and want to introduce the colors we have choosen.  There is shade that also has to be dealt with and hence the same color in shade will have to be accepted as well.
What is the best method/tool to use for this task ?

Since it's easier to point you toward some tutorials on that very subject than illustrate the different ways on the forum, here are some:

  • Color profile (difference between interface & programs)

I use macbook air 13 (mid 2012). In windows 7 сolor is the same everywhere (preview, chrome, safari, photoshop & etc). But in Mountain Lion i can see difference:
    Dock vs Quick Look
    Safari vs Quick Look
I made this pics by photoshop cs6 (proof colors OFF):
How make in Mountain Lion сolor same everywhere?

    Hi Venkat,
Interface and Conversion program with BDC are same.
Only the difference in the mode of execution.
<b>Conversions Program</b> - mainly used for master data
migration. Mostly will be executed standalone and
       once .
<b>Interface Programs</b> - These program will be executed
periodically for Transaction data upload(may be
for some periodic report). So these programs are
         scheduled.
       Reward points if this helps.

  • How to minimize picture to a certain amount of color shades?

I am working on a piece of pixelated artwork. Each pixel is a certain shade of grey. I need to be able to minimize the shade count to about 5. So, every pixel that is light grey will be all the same shade and so on. Get it? Any thoughts on how to do this? I would be able to use both Illustrator and Photoshop with this.
    Thanks

You can either try an Posterize Adjustment Layer, but this will probably not provide good results.
Another option is to change Image – Mode to Indexed Color, choose Custom Palette, set Colors to 6 and edit those. (see screenshot)
Dither None might be a better fit though.

  • 15" MBP Matte vs. Glossy Color Gamut Difference?

Hi all, this is my first post here to the discussion boards.
I know there are a lot of strong personal preferences related to the whole matte vs. glossy screen debate. I was wondering if anyone had actual data related to the color gamut or color reproduction properties of each type of display? Specifically on the 15" model.
Honestly, I like both displays. I think text sometimes appears sharper, images more saturated, etc. on the glossy displays. But, I also like the lack of glare on the matte displays, even though the colors do seem a bit muted in comparison.
My decision would be made a whole lot easier if someone out there with a colorometer could tell me that there is/isn't any difference between the two as far as accurate color and wide color gamut.
Thanks in advance for any input you might have!

i don't think they should "ignore" our comments as these are our experiences and that is the reason for this forum to exist. So other people to advise before making the decision and paying lots of money to Apple.
Now, of course, everyone can take his own decision and judge accordingly, based on what they like. I wish someone would have told me before, as I would have had 400pounds more in my pocket right now.
Now, one more difference between those two screens is the gap between the actual surface of the screen and the actual monitor. In glossy screens there is big gap, according to my opinion. Not really sure why this gap exists. I find it annoying, especially when there is dust on the screen, as my eye is trying to focus in a noticeable different point.
In Matt screen there is no gap, and the monitor is actually attached to the surface. I much more prefer this, as I feel like I am touching my data. With glossy is like my data is behind a window or something. But again, this is my personal taste.

  • Photoshop PDF resolution and color space difference: Acrobat vs. Photoshop?

I have received several Photoshop PDFs from different sources. In Acrobat, the document properties indicate the PDF producer as Adobe Photoshop for macintosh -- Image Conversion Plug-in. When checking the image either with PitStop or through Photoshop via Acrobat's Touch up object tool, the image shows as a 100 dpi RGB image. If the PDF is opened directly in Photoshop, Photoshop indicates it is 300 dpi and CMYK.
Does anyone know why there is this difference? Also what is the Image Conversion Plug-in and how does it work?

Ah, sorry; in that case possibly the Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities-button was hit (thus including the original psd-file) but a low-res-pdf-setting selected.
In which case the original data would appear to be CMYK and of a higher resolution that the pdf-images.

  • Color quality difference by printing from the Organizer vs the Editor

When a print the a photo from the Organizer I get a good quality print, one that closely represents the image on the computer screen.  But when I print the identical print from the Editor mode, the colors are darker -- more black pigment in all of the colors and no where near as representitive of the image on the screen.  How can I get the prints from the Editor mode to be more like the ones from the Organizer  -- more like the images on the screen?......Jim

    Organizer :
    Image Space:  sRGB IEC61933-2.1
Print Space :   Same as Source      (What is "Source"?)
This means that the Organizer is sending the photo to the printer without adjusting any of its colors (the default behavior).
    Editor  :
Color Handling : Printer Manages Color
Source Space :  Same as in Organizer
Rendering Intent : Relative Colorimetric    (What ever that is)
This means that the Editor is sending the photo to the printer without adjusting any of its colors.  "Relative colorimetric" means that if there is a color in the photo that the printer isn't capable of printing, the printer will chose the nearest color.  (This is the default behavior.)
So you've verified that the Organizer and Editor are using the default print settings.  They have two different "print engines", but with a printer made in the last several years and photo in the sRGB color space, they would normally produce nearly identical results with these settings.  What's your printer and how old is it?
My next suggestion is to download the most recent printer driver and install it (even if you already have the most recent one).  This can reset the printer settings to their defaults.
If that doesn't work (and it likely won't), then you could consider configuring PSE to manage colors, rather than letting the printer manage colors.  But getting that to work right often can involve a fair amount of effort, reading your printer's documentation to get the printer configured properly (it's different for each manufacturer and often for different models).

  • Color picker reversed rainbow with color shades

my color picker has changed and i cannot figure out how to revert it back to normal. it normally has a single color with ranges from white in the upper left corner to black in the lower right corner. it is now showing the color ranges from light to dark in the narrower slider bar which used to show all of the range of colors. it's as if the two slider areas reversed and now the rainbow is in the larger box. i don't know what caused this to change but i do not know how to fix it. please help. i am using windows 7 and have the latest updates from adobe.

By normal, you probably want to click on the H (hue) radio button.

  • PSE 11 color intensity differences between Organizer and Fotoeditor

The EIZO CG223G monitor color intensity using PSE 11 Organizer differs significantly from using Fotoeditor for the same tiff and jpg files.
    What ist the reason?
How to make the color rendering the same?

    Hi Barbara
first of all thanks for the very quick response.
After checking your advices my observations are as follows:
    1. Organizer and Editor are in regard to color management synchronized: When I change the settings in Organizer they are automatically changed in the editor. Consequently they are always the same.
    2. When in the "Always Optimize Colors for the Computer Screen" modus I observe when moving the Editor screen from my notebook monitor the EIZO monitor, colors are deteriorate immediately - like expected - but after 10 s they change to the right color rendering back. The right color rendering I can judge because it is a test tiff file with a corresponding color print out. When I do the same with the Organizer monitor it does not change after 10 s.
The question is: does color optimization for the belonging monitor does not work in the Organizer properly?

  • Multiple Selection Danger

I often use multiple selections, including cmd-A, for setting common metadata (e.g., IPTC data), selecting photos to be included in an export, slideshow, etc. However, I have too many times forgotten that I have lots of images selected, set something intended for a single item (e.g. color, rating, whatever) only to realize -- perhaps many operations later -- that I have performed various actions on all the selected images. Part of this is caused (for me at least) from the relatively small color/shade differences between active, selected, and other images in the G mode.
Other than "pay attention, dork", does anyone have any suggestion (something obvious I've missed, some little known feature (Idiot User mode?) or even feature to be requested) to help me save myself from me?
    Thanks,
    dds

I've actually requested a feature meant to alleviate this issue. When you have multiple selected images to which something could get applied, but you only have one image visible, I think it would be nice if the cursor changed to indicate that condition, possibly by including the number of selected images as part of the cursor.

  • Apple RGB VS Color LCD

    Hi all,
Just curious what is the differences between these 2 profiles? All i can see is some color tone differences.
BTW, what is the purpose of having diff color profiles?
    Thanks.

Those tone differences are the exact differences that make those two different profiles. Profiles are color corrections in a sense, they make sure that the color you capture with your camera is what you see on screen and is what you see on your printer and in your scanner. They calibrate all your equipment so that consistent colors are obtained.
The generally accepted "standard" in the world of photography is usually the Adobe RGB (1998) profile. Unless you are very serious about photography / graphic arts, I wouldn't really bother playing around with these settings. A lot of them only change subtle things (such as the particular shade of green) and in the end won't make THAT big a difference to a non-pro.

  • In competitive exams photo in "true color" format.... How to do it in adobe photoshop please replay it.....

In competitive exams photo in "true color" format.... How to do it in adobe photoshop>>> please replay it.....

Mayuk, you are not making any sense here.
    True color (24-bit)
"True Color" redirects here. For images with natural color rendition, see true-color.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Truecolor.png 24 bits (16,777,216 colors, "truecolor")
True color supports 24-bit for three RGB colors. It provides a method of representing and storing graphical-image information (especially in computer processing) in an RGB color space such that a very large number of colors, shades, and hues can be displayed in an image, such as in high-quality photographic images or complex graphics. Usually, true color is defined to mean 256 shades of red, green, and blue, for a total of 224 or 16,777,216 color variations. The human eye can discriminate up to ten million colors.[13]
     Color images composed from 3 grayscale images A, B & C assigned to R,G & B in different orders.
"True color" can also refer to an RGB display-mode that does not need a color look-up table (CLUT).
For each pixel, generally one byte is used for each channel while the fourth byte (if present) is being used either as an alpha channel, data, or simply ignored. Byte order is usually either RGB or BGR. Some systems exist with more than 8 bits per channel, and these are often also referred to as true color (for example a 48-bit true-color scanner).
Even with true color, monochromatic images, which are restricted to 256 levels, owing to their single channel, can sometimes still reveal visible banding artifacts.
True color, like other RGB color models, cannot express colors outside of the gamut of its RGB color space (generally sRGB).
Macintosh systems refer to 24-bit color as "millions of colors".
RGBA color space, or 32-bit color, is a variant of true color in which the additional 8-bit is allocated to transparency and indicates how transparent is the element to which the color is assigned, when overlaid on other elements.
