Color shift in pdfs when viewing on ipad

Hey all,
Just wondering what I need to do to my PDF to ensure color are some what close to original when saving a PDF in Illustrator or InDesign. Yes i understand iPad would be using a different coor management to a desktop computer but surely there is a way to get the colors, brightness closer to original?
I notice that when doing standard and high quality saves in PDF format, the saturation and brightness contrast changes quite a bit, but if I save the image as a jpg its a lot closer.
I was just browsing a car site which seems to be exeriencing a very similar situation with one of their PDFs. When viewing in iPad have a look at how bad this looks (its way too dark) but when viewing on a desktop machine its fine.

(If the link does not work go to the main domain, click on vehicles from menu, select captiva5 then click view brochure) to load PDF
Is it just a matter of color proofing using a specific model and drawing back on blownout levels before outputting to PDF?
Any help or insight would be great

Probably you are starting with an cmyk document and the profile is being translated that way.
Try converting the document to rgb then adjust your colors. Make sure you are using sRGB and not Adobe RGB 1998 or Color Match.
That should be the way to go.

  • Forms created in Acrobat Pro XL do not display data when viewed on iPads

I have a simple form that when completed and saved as an Acrobat Pro XL document and then emailed to customers, do not display the field contents of the form when viewed on iPads. So the customers just see a blank form. I have tried to use Optimize for Web and Moblie to solve this, but it appears that many times, since the iPads are so prevalent, that people can;t see the full content of the form that I send. Is there a solution for this?

When your customers opened the PDF form (which was as an email attachment) on iPads, it is highly likely that Apple Mail (not Adobe Reader for iOS) was displaying the preview of the PDF form.   Please note that Apple products on iPad/iPhone (e.g. Apple Mail, iBooks, Safari) do not render field contents or annotations (sticky notes, highlight, underline, strikeout, freehand drawing, etc.) in PDF documents.
The Mail sections of the following FAQ documents describe how to open PDF attachments in Adobe Reader for iOS.
For iPad, see How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 version)
For iPhone, see How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 version)

  • How do I get rid of the grey outline on my PDF when viewing it on an iPad

An ugly grey outline appears on my PDF only when viewing it on an iPad. Any idea how to get rid of it?

Actually I've worked out (by testing a different sized PDF) that it's the background of the interface colour For some reason my PDF isn't quite making it to the edges so it looks like it has a 2 pt grey outline + then the black ipad border. I'd like plain black around the edges (the same as if you were viewing it in full screen mode on a desktop computer). Good Reader shows it fine but I'd prefer to use Acrobat. Is there any way to adjust the grey to black?  or why it's not quite making it to the edges?  Many thanks in advance for your help!

  • Local host banner when viewing on iPad and iPhone

Hi, the embedded FC form on my website runs great when viewing on the desktop but the actually website disappears when viewing on an apple device. When this happens the form still works but the yellow banner appears.
The Adobe Muse website is not yet live as I'm still testing via a temporary business catalyst URL... I really just want an assurance by the FC team that when we do publish via BC the forms will work on iPads and iPhones. I'm starting to get nervous that they won't work when published.
The forms are embedded using the proper embed code.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The local banner is supposed to show when you are viewing the web page on a local server or host.  It seems that you have a slightly different problem here as you do not see this local banner when viewed on the desktop but you do when viewed on iOS devices.
Please take a look at these posts and see if you have run into the issues mentioned there: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5813658

If you do find that your web page is using jquery.scrolleffects.js
You have two choices to fix this:
    1) Remove jquery.scrolleffects.js from the web page.
    or
    2) Move the embed code out of the cloned element.  For example, remove the existing form embed code, and place the following at the end of the body element:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="https://formscentral.acrobat.com/Clients/Current/FormsCentral/htmlClient/scripts/adobe.for m.embed.js" style=""></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" style="">
    $(document).ready(function()
    ADOBEFORMS.EmbedForm({formId:"yourFormsFormIDGoesHere", place:$('# u12813')[0], placeHow:'child'});
    </script>
If you still have problem, please let us know the temporary URL that you are using or the source of your web page with the embed form.
    Thanks,
    Lucia

  • How do I save a PDF, when viewing in Preview, to a folder in my Documents?

Right now, when I download a PDF from the internet and view it in Preview, I can't figure out how to save it directly to a folder in my Documents.  I have been going into the Downloads folder and copy/paste the PDF into the desired folder in my Documents.  Is there faster way of saving the PDF?

From Preview, I guess you could select "Duplicate" from the File menu, then close the duplicated file, at which point you will be prompted for a name and location for saving that file. The original will remain in Downloads.
BTW. If you decide the direct move from Downloads to the Documents folder is better, you can use copy and option-paste to move the file without leaving a copy in Downloads (just in case you didn't already know).

  • Colors off in Preview when viewing JPG's with sRGB profiles

I have a 30" Dell monitor and my display preferences are set to use the calibrated profile for it. When I view JPGs images in any color managed application such as Preview the colors are horribly off. They are kind of dull, unsaturated, pale. JPG's that don't have sRGB profiles show up fine.
I can fix the problem in photoshop by opening the image and then doing a save for web which strips the profile information off of the jpg.
If I use sRGB as my monitor's profile colors are consistent across all applications but the problem is the colors are really bad. Extremely over contrasty and very dark.
What's going on with my color profiles?

    Hi topmodelphotography ..
If you're keen about running the right profiles - please don't mess up the way you do. The sRGB profile that you're using is showing a narrower color space (value 0-16 of blacks are out). The sRGB profile is mainly used for consumer monitors in the cheap end where contrast conditions are worse that expensive and professional displays to present contents in a similar way across manufacturers. If you should use any predefined color profile, please use Adobe (1998) profiling.
best practive is calibrating your monitor with a good calibrator and use these profiles.
In System Preferences you should set up the calibrated profile and the same goes for all Adobe apps under Color Settings.
    Useful reading concerning Color Profiles:

Your issue with Preview is most likely due to erroneous setup in System Settings. otherwise try and disable Dithering in Preview.
And don't use Save for Web if you intend to keep at least a minor part of your colors in your images. Use TIFF's where possible (without 'upgrading' images from compressed formats such as JPEG's, GIF's, etc.)

  • PDF portfolio viewing on ipad

i am not able to open pdf portfolios in emails received on my ipad.  I get an adobe "click here" button but nothing happens.  Can anyone suggest a solution?

There's no chance they'll work on iOS since they require Flash viewer, which isn't available for iOS.

  • Fuzzy photo, when viewed on iPad.

Dreamweaver novice working on a personal site; worked in Photoshop since the early 1990s. I created graphics in Photoshop that competent web designers would do in Dreamweaver. It worked well, until this page.
    [see:  http://www.adrianhoff.com/Pages/Tabs_IntroPages/ArtIntro_Fuzzy.html]
The overlay mat and thumbnail images are all elements of a single jpeg image. Of numerous similar pages, this was the only problem. Viewed on an iPad (1st gen. or current model) — it’s noticeably less sharp than images inserted into similar pages.
Once I figured it out, the fix was simple. I cropped the photo (vertical axis). The original photo was 900px wide X 3292px tall; the new one is 900px wide X 2154px tall.
    [see: http://www.adrianhoff.com/Pages/Tabs_IntroPages/ArtArticles_Intro.html]
The problem is in the photo itself, not the overall page height. There is no loss of sharpness, for example, when a second image is inserted into the next row in the table — even though that extends the page farther down than the original jpeg did.
    [see: http://www.adrianhoff.com/Pages/Tabs_IntroPages/ArtArticles_Intro01a.html]
Any work-around here, other than spreading images over a certain height over two consecutive rows? I’m starting work on another (job related) site that will be viewed mostly on iPads.

On the web, less is defintely more.
First main image is 1,009.38 KB (1,033,604 bytes) in file size.
Nobody wants to download a 1MB image if they don't need to.  Especially people on mobile devices who may be paying through the nose for bandwidth.
I would suggest limiting yourself to 6-9 thumbnail size images per page and optimizing them in PShop with Save for Web properties.   You'll need to sacrifice a bit on quality to keep file size to a minimum.  I like to keep thumbnails around 20KB and full size images under 100KB.
You could then deploy a modal window viewer like Fancybox to display larger images on click/touch.

  • Desaturated colors in book-pdf when reopened in PS

I'm putting together a book in iPhoto. I haven't done this since I upgraded to Tiger. Previous books have been fine in terms of color management. I'm always careful to keep tabs on which color space my pictures reside in. Figuring iPhoto was a consumer oriented application and since I was not sure if it honored embedded profiles or not I've put all my images into sRGB and doing all editing in Photoshop prior to importing into iPhoto. After assembling the book in iPhoto I've always printed to a pdf file which I've then re-opened in Photoshop to double check the colors against the original images. So far this has worked like a charm. Now after upgrading to Tiger and using iPhoto 5.0.4 there's trouble in paradise. For some reason when reopening the pdf file in Photoshop all the colors have much less saturation, although the file opens in the same sRGB colorspace as the originals. The sRGB profile is even embedded in the file. Everything seems fine but still the pictures lose saturation somwhere in the process, indicating a possible color space mismatch. The color balance seems pretty accurate but the saturation suffers. I wonder if anyone has come across this and found the solution?
    Thanks.

    Never mind.

  • Document Language not exported into PDF when viewed in Acrobat Pro 9?

I've been working on making our PDFs accessible, but it looks like the LiveCycle-generated forms are causing some issues. While I can set the Form Locale in LiveCycle ES (8.2.1), generating a PDF from this and viewing it in Acrobat Pro 9 leaves the Reading Language field greyed out. I'm new to LiveCycle, so it might be something simple (but I've tried Googling everything).
I've tried saving it as both a Static PDF and Dynamic XML PDF form without luck. The Generate Accessibility Information Save Option is checked. I am doing a Save As rather than in-app generation (I understand this can be the cause of some issues).
    Help!?

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my original post, I've already tried toggling smoothing options. They don't make the jagged edges go away—they just change them slightly. In some cases, as with the sample file provided, it does help smooth the art out, but it never looks as good as it did going in, in a recent project, toggling smoothing options didn't affect the appearance of the image at all. Zoom does not appear to relieve the artifacting.
A little clarification: this PDF was created from a flat PNG, but I have had this issue with PNGs and TIFFs as well, generated by both Photoshop and Illustrator. To reiterate, the PDFs display fine in other software—Finder preview looks great, and the same file viewed in my browser via Google Drive looks as intended as well. A colleague was able to replicate this issue in Acrobat on his Windows machine. This appears to be a rendering issue specific to Acrobat with regards to the files I use it to create.

  • Why video does not play when embedded in a PDF when viewed in Windows 8?

I have a situation where video must be embedded within the PDF document and it was working for us using older versions of IE and on 32 bit machines and using acrobat X. When the same file was tested on Windows 8 it looks good and behaves well except the embedded video does not play. The same video (.mp4) will play on the new OS if it is not embedded in the PDF.
Is this because the PDF is looking for a 32 bit flash player? Am I doing something wrong and/or is there a fix for this situation?

Are you watching the pdf file from Adobe Reader?
Windows 8 by default has a diferent reader for pdf files that does not support rich media elements.

  • Video/animation "blinks" at beginning and end when viewed on iPad

    Hi,
I have a Captivate 6 file that I published and uploaded to a website. Within this file is one slide with a recorded animation (tapping letters on an iPad keyboard). When I published this course to HTML5 and SWF and double-click the index.html file in IE9 on my computer, the video runs fine. However, when I access this same file using Safari on an iPad, there is a "blink" at the beginning of this animation and at the end. I see the video for a second, then a blank screen, then the video starts. Same at the end.
Does anyone know how I can remove that "blinking" or why it is happening?
    Thank you,
    Michele

Without knowing your exact version of PPro and system specs, I encountered this issue on the way back machine during version 1.5.  The fix was to render out the timeline to an uncompressed wav, put that onto it's own track, mute the other tracks and then render out the final video.
You could also try closing PPro and importing the sequence into AME and render it that way.
If using non-native media (the audio is conformed), you might want to close PPro, delete the cache/conform files, reopen the project and have it re-conform.

  • Keynote widget blank when viewing on iPad

I make extensive use of the Keynote widget when creating my books.  On occasion after previewing the book on my iPad, I launch the widget and the screen comes up blank.  The only way to get it back to normal is to quit iBooks and restart the app. Then all widgets are back to normal...until it eventually happens again.  If one widget goes blank, all widgets in the book go blank.  Any suggetions?
When I export the presentation from keynote, I export it in low quality and then drag the folder into iBooks Author. At which point I make it full screen only.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as so far this is the only fallback I'm having with iBooks Author.

Submit a bug report to Apple. If it works, then stops working, and works again after restarting iBooks, that clearly indicates a bug.
    Michi.

  • HT5557 Is it possible to display the title of the book or PDF when viewing them in the library? I can only see a title if my PDF's first page contains the title.

I would like to be able to display the title of the PDF or book while in library mode. In iTunes, you can click and hold on the song to get the full title information. I would like to see the same feature in iBooks if it doesn't already exist.

You can omit the title altogether in the URL (together with the succeeding slash, of course). For example, my own podcast URL in the Store is
    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-sound-of-78s/id166389425?mt=2
    but this works perfectly well:
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/id166389425
Indeed you can even put your own title:
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/any_old_title/id166389425
So it's as simple as that!
