Color space from lightroom to flickr

Can anyone help me with this question....having developed raw images in lightroom, I then may publish some of them on my flickr account.  When these images are exported directly from Lightroom to Flickr, are they automatically exported in sRGB?....especially considering that Lightroom is a ProPhoto RGB color managed application.  I ask this because I know that people may look @ my images in non-color managed web browsers, like Internet Explorer, and if the images are exported in the ProPhoto RGB color space, the image colors will render poorly on that non-color managed web browser.  Are they automatically exported in the web friendly sRGB??  Thanks for your comments:)

Perhaps you could help me with another question.  I always shoot in raw and process using ProPhoto RGB throughout my entire workflow.  However, 5 years ago, I shot in Jpeg.  I couldn't tell you what colour space my camera was set to then.  When editing those JPEGS in Lightroom, in what colour space should I apply to those images when I send them over to Photoshop?  I know JPEGs already have a colour space applied, but the camera I used then is long gone and therefore can't remember if they were shot in sRGB or Adobe RGB.  Also, whatever colour space I do use when exporting from Lightroom to Photoshop, I should set up Photoshop's working colour space to match the image's profile, correct?  So, should I apply sRGB or Adobe RGB to my JPEGs when going from Lightroom to Photoshop??  Thanks:)

  • Change Aperture previews color space from Adobe98 to sRgb

    Hi,
I'd like to change the default color space for the jpg previews that Aperture generates from the masters of my library.
I now have all my jpegs saved as Adobe98 but it's important for me to have them saved as sRGB because when third party apps and devices go to read them, they can't reproduce the right colors if they find the wrong color profile.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't know how many different ways to say that you cannot change the color space for previews. The files themselves have specific image data that corresponds to a specific color profile that is Adobe 1998 you cannot change the way Aperture generates these. Changing your system has nothing to do with it.
As for work-flow - If you need this to work and it doesn't then it never has so I really don't see how it is changing your work-flow that never existed?

Ps. External devices like projectors work fine as long as your presentation software respects the source profile and has an output device profile - what kind of "device" are you using?

  • Color spaces in Lightroom and Photoshop

I read that Lightroom uses the large ProPhoto color Space and then again, that it's gamma curve ist close to sRGB. So what is my color space when working in Lightroom? ProPhoto, or sRGb, or something else?
And what kind of a color management workflow between Photoshop and Lightroom do you advocate? Using ProphotoRGB or sRGB as color work space in Photoshop? I used to work in AdobeRGB in Photoshop. Has this to be changed to gain maximum color consistency?
    Thanks again for any help!

    Hey Claude,
if it did not have an attached profile it is almost definitely in sRGB or, more rarely, Apple RGB. Lightroom always assumes sRGB for untagged files which is typically a safe bet. Photoshop generally uses the working space for untagged images. Since you had adobeRGB there, you should get a more saturated image in photoshop then in Lightroom. The same data is simply interpreted in a different color space leading to different colors. This has nothing to do with the monitor profile therefore and my initial hunch was wrong. So for untagged images in photoshop, you should usually assign sRGB to them instead of working space.
    >As for calibration hardware we do use them here so I will use it but since the Mac was brand new out the box I assumed that it was ok...
Unfortunately, in general the canned calibration is not very good on Macs. I find very large differences between the shipped profile and a profile generated by a calibrator. Also, Apple ships profiles that set your display's gamma to 1.8 instead of the standard 2.2. This leads to many images in webbrowsers being too low contrast. Even Apple suggests recalibrating your screen at 2.2 if you do digital photography work (it's in their Aperture help files). In this case though the difference between Lightroom and Photoshop had nothing to do with the monitor profile but was related to photoshop interpreting untagged files in its working space instead of the more likely sRGB space.

  • AdobeRGB color space from camera

My camera (Canon EOS Rebel XTi/400D) can be set to a Color Space that is either sRGB (the default) or AdobeRGB. As an experiment, I set it to AdobeRGB and processed a few photos (both JPGs and RAWs) through PSE5, which came out fine.
However, I noticed that the metadata for those photos shows "Untagged RGB" instead of AdobeRGB. This doesn't matter in my normal workflow, since I have set PSE5 to import untagged photos as AdobeRGB. But it might mess up other workflows.
I wonder if it is considered normal behavior for a camera to produce AdobeRGB photos that are not tagged as such, or if it is a peculiarity of this particular brand or model.
(It also occurred to me later that the color space tag set by the camera only matters when shooting JPG, not when shooting RAW. The Camera RAW converter always converts to the color space that I have set PSE5 to, regardless of how the photo is tagged.)

Your post has prompted me to investigate as I have recently come across the same issue.
I have a Canon 20d and have set it to use AdobeRGB colour space. I recently noticed that a JPEG image file appears as untagged in the metadata in Elements 5 Organiser but when in the editor it confirms it has the AdobeRGB space as the "Image/Convert Colour profile" instruction only offers to convert to sRGB or Remove Profile options. Furthermore the print dialogue confirms the presence of the AdobeRGB colour space. This has not been applied since importing from the camera as I have set the colour management option to "Let Me Choose" for this test.
The camera instruction book says if AdobeRGB is set in the camera the file name will start with an underscore: _MG which they do and that the ICC profile "is not appended" which may explain its absence in the metadata.
As you suggested, RAW files do not appear to carry a colour space regardless of the camera setting although the file name still starts with _MG so perhaps it does? but on conversion using Adobe ACR with Elements, it attaches the colour space to the resulting file depending on the colour management setting and will use Adobe RGB if I set it to Always optimise for printing.
    I hope this helps.

  • JPG colors different from Lightroom Display

I am aware of issues when you try to print an image without taking into account the calibrated color profiles of both the printer and your monitor, but not when it comes to displaying 2 images on the same monitor.
To put it simple: I process an image in Lightroom. I get the desired result, create a JPG out of it.
The JPG is very different from what I had in Lightroom. Much lighter among others.
What would be a potential reason to explain such behavior?

    CSS Simon wrote:
You said: "I did click "Reset all default Develop settings" and reimported the JPG. Now it does look exactly the way the original RAW image looks."
So I assume you mean "why is the jpeg displayed in another program not the same as the raw (or the jpeg, for that matter) displayed in LR?".  Either the other programs aren't colour managed, or the monitor isn't correctly calibrated and profiled?  See Jao vdL's post.
Indeed. Now it makes sense. What totally confused me was when the JPG, reimported in LR, did not look the same as the RAW image. I thought that if LR was color managed, then both images should look the same.
After I clicked the "Reset all default Develop settings", the reimported JPG looks "correct". Not sure I fully understand what happened however
CSS Simon wrote: To your other post: Lightroom uses ProPhoto RGB as its working space during editing, so in Develop Module the image displayed is in that colour space.  In Library Module, LR displays the previews which are stored in Adobe RGB, I believe.  This is true whatever the colour space of the image.  This is of no consequence to the user, as LR is colour managed, and  whatever working space is used internally is mapped to the monitor colour space by using the monitor profile.  Provided there is a correct monitor profile, that is.
Interesting. So if my monitor is not properly calibrated, it would be possible that the image in the library module could look different from the same image in the development module?  Good to know
    CSS Simon wrote:
Colour management to an output device uses two profiles: the profile of the image (typically sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB or usually another standard profile) and the profile of the output device (monitor or printer as appropriate).  The colour-managed program uses the two profiles to map the RGB data from the image colour space to the device colour space.
Is your monitor calibrated and profiled with a hardware colorimeter (Spyder, Display One, Color Munki etc)?  If not, colour displayed by different programs will not always be predictable (and will usually not be correct).  Even if it is calibrated and profiled, only colour-manged programs will display the right colour.  Programs that are NOT colour managed (or not properly managed) include Internet Explorer (even IE9), Chrome, most Windows components pre Windows 7 (in W7 the photo viewer is colour managed, the desktop and most other components aren't)...
Not calibrated as of now. Will fix it soon now that it seems that it is the reason behind my problem
What you are saying is consistent with what I had read, and this is actually what confused me the most. Because I read that Firefox was color-managed, but the JPG looked the same in FF, IE, Irfanview and LR (JPG reimported before I clicked the "reset settings" button). So it looked to me like if color-managed (FF) and non-color managed (IE) software would display the JPG the same way, but yet my LR RAW image would look different. When Windows Image Viewer displayed the JPG the same way LR did for the RAW, this is where I got totally lost.

  • Cannot publish from Lightroom to Flickr after upgrading to Yosemite

Hi all. I just upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks, and am running LR5.6. Since the upgrade i can no longer publish photos to Flickr with my existing plugin (which was working fine before the upgrade). When i click on any of the Flickr smart collections in LR I get the following message popping up:
"In order to use this sample plug-in, you must obtain an API key from flickr.com. Sign on to Flick and register for a key under Explore > Flickr Services > Your API Keys"
and it prompts for an API Key and a Shared Secret.
This sounds to me like its asking for the (Adobe) Developers key since i don't have one myself!. Additionally, the location in Flickr is not a valid one anyway.
Anyone aware of this and/or know how to fix it? I don't want to remove the Flickr plugin if it can be avoided as I have hundreds of photos published that would likely all disappear and need to be republished.
    Many thanks
    RS

    Try this.
Open your default browser in the background
Go to your specific Flickr instance in the Publish Services. Right Click and Select Edit Settings … to launch the Lightroom Publishing Manager
Click  [Remove Authorization] in the Flickr Account Setting section
    Click [Authorize]
    A dialog should appear [Authorize]
A Flickr tab should open in your default browser
    [Ok, I'll Authorize it]
A different LR dialog should appear [Done]
    [Save]
    Does that restore your service?

  • Publishing from Lightroom into Flickr broken

Recently the Adobe Lightroom publishing service to Flickr is broken on my PC. I added some photos to my collection for publishing on Flickr, clicked publish in Lightroom, and after some minutes it came back with an error message that it couldn´t contact the Flickr service. The publishing process stopped then. Strangely however, I found on my Flickr account that Lightroom had uploaded the first previously unpublsihed picture, with all tags. So the internet connection is definitely working. However, within Lightroom the photo was not marked as published and not linked to Flickr. So if I tried to repeat the process, and by doing I added another copy of that first photo to my Flickr stream, and then the whole thing stopped again.
My OS is Windows 7, and I am using Lightroom 5.3 with Flickr uploader it came with.
I already reathorized the Flickr connection, but that didn´t help.
Did anyone experience a similar situation, or knows how to fix this? Your help is much appreciated.
    Ansgar

Consider trying Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr upload plug in. The work you do to install his code might fix the problem -- whereever it is -- and you'd have an inexpensive and excellent plug in. Might be more effective than poking the Flickr wall directly. He offers Lightroom tools (many chaoices) as donationware so you pick how much is appropriate to pay.
    See his plug-ins here: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies
and the pictures on his blog are great fun. He is a good photographer as well as a coder.
I do use several of his plug-ins but am not affiliated with this guy in any way.

  • Color Space from RGB sRGB

Tried unchecking "Embed Color Profile" when saving a .psd to .jpg.
Still don't see the drop down menu for assignng color profile.
Where is the assign color profile to save or convert the color profile of image files?

    Edit – Assign Profile
    Edit – Convert to Profile
You might want to read up on the (very important) difference between the two if You haven’t yet.

  • Red color tint from lightroom

I just processed photo in LR3.6 and PS5.1, and even tried LR4 beta, all have same result.  Photos are done, take it into bridge to create a pdf to email and during the conversion all the photos get a redish tint but it's only viewable on other computers. Not running LR or PS.  I calibrated my monitor and still the same.  I notice when opening the files on my computer they have a red tint then it goes away-using bridge or LR3 or LR4 beta.  I assume its a setting somewhere.  I first noticed it when in LR4 beta and I did a send to email, all the photos had a red tint applied and that was viewable on my comp.

If the histogram has a red tint, your monitor profile is bad. That is one of the prime symptoms of having a corrupt profile.
You need to get a hardware calibrator and calibrate your screen.
As a stopgap measure, you can go into your operating system and change the default profile to sRGB, but that won't give you true colours, just better ones.

  • Color Space....of Lightroom...and Web Creation Page

    Lightroom 2 on XP
Is there a place to set the working color space of lightroom?
I usually use sRGB because I produce for the web...but recently got images created in the Adobe RGB Color Space.
When I create Thumbnails and Enlarged Images in the HTML web gallery...are the images in the sRGB color Space by default possibly...Is there a way to manage this some way?
    Thanks.
    Suzzie

    Forgot about this question:
    >but recently got images created in the Adobe RGB Color Space.
Lightroom correctly understands attached profiles. Just take it in and export to sRGB jpegs, or use the web tool, which brings me to:
    >When I create Thumbnails and Enlarged Images in the HTML web gallery...are the images in the sRGB color Space by default possibly...Is there a way to manage this some way?
Lightroom does the right thing and always uses sRGB in the web galleries.

  • Color space problem/confusion

I posted the following message to another thread, but at the recommendation of a member I am starting a new thread here. For a couple of answers see the thread below.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3298911#3298911
I will provide much more information hoping an Adobe support person will chime in. This is extremely odd.
System: HP, AMD, Windows 7 64-Bit, Nvidia 9100, all updates to Windows, latest Nvidia 9100 driver
Display: Samsung 226CW, Windows settings 32-bit color, correct resolution,
Calibration: Done with ColorMunki, D65 target, done after monitor has been on for more than 30 minutes
Personal:  (I am adding this information with some hesitation, please excuse it if  it sounds like I'm bragging; I am not). I have multiple posts on my  blog, have made many presentations on color managed workflow and am very  comfortable with the settings in Photoshop and Lightroom. Please take  this only as a baseline information, I am not bragging. In fact, I am  begging for information!
    Problem:
Any, I mean ANY,  original JPEG image in sRGB space coming out of the camera with no  adjustments, any PSD file in sRGB space, any TIFF file in sRGB space  look significantly paler in Lightroom and in Photoshop CS5 than they  look in other Windows based image viewers like FastStone or XnView. This  should not need these applications to be color space aware, but the  situation is the same with or without their color managment turned on or  off. I have done the following:
    1. Totally uninstalled Lightroom 3 and reinstalled it
    2.  Recreated a brand new Lightroom catalog/library and reimported all the  images, converting all the RAW files to DNG (just in case!)
    3. Recalibrated the display
When  I view a file, any file and I will use for the sake of simplicity a  JPEG file in sRGB color space, in Lightroom it looks pale. Since the  file is in sRGB color space, I have verified this, the rendering in  Lightroom should be the same as rendering in anything else. But it is  not. I took my monitor and connected it to this system with the same odd  behavior of rendering in Lightroom being much paler than outside. It  appears as if I am viewing an image in Adobe RGB in a windows viewer  that is not color managed.
    I further tried the following:
    1.  I copied various versions of one file, all in sRGB color space. One PSD  and two JPEG files from the folders of the above system and copied them  to my system, Intel, Windows 7 64-bit, display calibrated and profiled  with ColorMunki to the same standards as the problem system above.
    2. Imported them to Lightroom on my system
    3.  The rendering in Lightroom is identical to rendering outside Lightroom  for all the files and all are same as the rendering in FastStone on the  problem system. Outside rendering was done using FastStone as on the  problem system.
My deduction is that something on the  problem system outlined in the opening of the message is interfering  with the Adobe rendering engine and I have no idea what it could be. I  WILL GREATLY APPRECIATE if an Adobe engineer could chime in and steer me  in the right direction. I am willing to try other things but I have run  out of ideas despite the fact that I have reduced much of the problem  to the lowest common denominator of sRGB and JPEG against a PSD in sRGB.
    Waiting anxiously of your help.
    Cemal

Also, I know enough to calibrate a monitor when it is connected to a new computer. That said, even without calibration the behavior should have changed to display all the images in question the same but perhaps with somewhat off colors. Am I right? I am not arguing the point, I am rhetorically raising the question. If the 226CW is wide gamut and 244T is not, when I connect 244T on the same computer the wide gamut issue should be eliminated, should it not? I am not talking at this point about the "correct" color, but the same color in or out of Lightroom.
Unfortunately when you connect another monitor to a computer and don't calibrate or manually change it, Windows will not change the monitor profile. Macs will autodetect and change the profile but this innovation has not reached windows yet. The behavior you observe is caused by managed apps using the monitor profile and unmanaged apps not. If the monitor profile is not changed, the behavior doesn't change.
BTW, for a "cheap" software to be color space aware it does not need a quantum leap in technology I believe. It simply needs to know how to read the ICC profile and the LUT, is that correct?
It's extremely simple to program color management into apps. Standard API libraries have been available in Windows for over a decade. The reason why this hasn't happened is related to the fact that Microsoft hasn't made IE color managed and the software makers do not want to confuse folks when images look different in their program vs IE. Considering that this still is the biggest issue people wrongly complain about in every color managed application (just check Photoshop fora) that is maybe not that strange.

  • Saturation Loss When Exporting from Lightroom.

This happens to me when exporting from Lightroom 2 or 3. It happens regardless of the color profile, file format, bit depth, image size, compression, or the method of export. I regularly profile my one-year-old iMac monitor with an Eye One Display 2. My working color space for Photoshop CS4 is ProPhoto. After exporting, I am viewing the images in Photoshop, Safari, Firefox and Apple Preview, with the same result. I have used pretty much all the available export methods in Lightroom, including exporting with Lighroom ad-ons such as SlideshowPro. And, conversely, if I edit an image to my liking ourside of Lightroom, there is a saturation increase when I import it into Lightroom.  The effect tends to be most obvious and bothersome with shots taken outside on sunny days, with lots of blues and greens.  I am shooting raw files with a Canon 5d II and I use the Adobe Standard profile in Lightroom.
There is a section at the back of Martin Evening's Lightroom book where he talks about the Lightroom color space and Lightroom versus Photoshop curves, which seems to relate to what I am seeing, but I have the feeling that what I seeing is more pronounced than what he is talking about there.  It is a real dullng of the look, not merely a slight difference in how the colors are rendered.

Looks like Lightroom doesn't like your display profile.
Try removing the profile (don't know how to do it on a Mac) to leave your display uncalibrated. Are the colors still different in Lightroom and Photoshop?

  • Color space and profiles clarifications

Does FCPX consider the embedded color profile of my clips ?
What is the default color space of FCPX projects ? (if any)
Can I select a specific color profile for my projects ?
My clips (according to after effect_cs6>interpret footage>color management) have this color profile embedded: HDTV (Rec. 709) Y'CbCr, but if I check out the same clip once transcoded to prores422 by FCPX there is no color profile anymore. What's goin on ?
I come from the photography world and we consider color profiles very important, what should I know about them when working with video ?
    Thanks a lot

Thanks TOm, what do you mean internally ? In AE I can select a color space from a long list for my projects while FCPX discard the color profiles from the imported clips... how can it even manage them ?
    Thanks

  • Import from Lightroom

How can I import tags, keywords, ratings and color labels from Lightroom.
I use ver 4, if it dont work in that version, does it work in newer versions.

For Keywords it just does it when you import the image into Elements.
LR images that have keywords that already exist in Elements will go under those Tags. LR images with new keywords that don't have coreseponding Elements Tags, appear under Imported Tags.
Ratings don't get imported and Colour Labels do not have a corresponding item in Elements
