Color space, Windows Media 9

Hi,
I´m using AE CS3 and try to render a Windows Media 9 file. But I don´t get the colors right. The blacks are too light and the whites too dark (I´ve checked the file in both VLC and Media Player). I guess it could be a color space issue. In AE I use HDTV (Rec. 709) color space. But not sure if this is the right choice. Have also tried not to use any color space, but that doesn´t help either. Thankful for any advice.
Thanks

Rec 709 as a project setting should not affect output in any way, as it covers the full 0-255 8bit RGB value ranges. They should only get limited when using other profiles and working in other bit-depths.. The only other thing that in my experience might cause color shifts is odd combinations of older Windows Media components with the latest AE. In these cases, the ranges may be misinterpreted. As a last thing, also check hardware acceleration options in your players. Sometimes simply a color otpion introduced by your graphics card can make things go crazy. In any case, I would, as a minor, update Windows Media player to the latest and see, if it helps.

  • Cannot view a PDF in IE on Windows XP - "Invalid Color Space"

I am trying to provide a link to a PDF for online viewing:
    http://glencoe.com/sites/common_assets/mathematics/007891647x/LP/FL5MINC3_7_2c_892770_se.p df
Some users can see the PDF with no issue, other users with Acrobat reader 9 on Windows XP receive this error: "Invalid Color Space."
Does anyone know why I'm getting this error, or more importantly, how to fix it?
    Thanks,

What's the word on this?  I am still having the same issue.  This is very problematic for many pdfs on many websites! Can someone from Adobe please answer this???

  • Windows media player on macbook pro not displaying colors correctly

I'm running WMP on Windows on my macbookpro but the colors don't display properly on any video. Other types of video work fine but the windows media format seems to not function properly.
    Any ideas?

BTW, for future questions, try posting in the QuickTime for Mac forum. You'll be normally more likely to get help there than you will here in the QuickTime for Windows forum.

  • Is there a way to assign Color Spaces in AME (Adobe Media Encoder) CC?

I am trying to output h.264 video for a web project and cannot seem to get sRGB color match when rendering out from AE.
I see it in AE's native renderer, but not in AME.
    Thanks.

AME (and Premiere Pro) does not support color management in the way that After Effects does. Via Dynamic Link, which is how AME reads After Effects comps, the color-space-adjusted pixels are not corrected for screen display.
To get the results you want, add an adjustment layer to the top of the layer stack in the comp and apply the Color Profile Converter effect. Set the Output Profile to Rec.709 (sRGB is practically identical and will also work, but Dynamic Link uses Rec.709 internally so is a better match). This forces After Effects to transform the adjusted pixels into a non-linearized color space that looks correct.
Note that while the CPC effect is active and View > Display Color Management is enabled (it is enabled by default), this extra layer of color transforms will make the comp appear incorrect in After Effects, at the same time the comp will now look correct in AME or Premiere Pro. Disable Display Color Management to make the appearance of the comp in After Effects match what you see in AME or Premiere Pro. While working on the comp, however, you probably want to work with Display Color Management enabled and the adjustment layer disabled.
Under the hood, when color management is enabled in After Effects, the pixels it writes into the cache include the appropriate color transforms for the settings you have chosen. When the comp is displayed in the Composition panel in After Effects, an additional transform is added to the screen buffer pixels (not the pixels in the cache) to make it look correct on your computer screen, or not if you have disabled Display Color Management. When the pixels are read through Dynamic Link, no display color management happens, nor does AME or Premiere Pro apply any, so you get the same appearance as having Display Color Management disabled in After Effects.
    Make sense?

  • Rendering Chroma 4:2:2 with color space 0-255

    Hello Everyone.
Just as a warning I'm fairly new to video editing, so I will probably not say this right. I have a screen recording that I used FRAPS to collect, and then I packaged it into an .AVI container w/ a lararith codec , and a 24bit RGB color scheme in video dub. I have then opened and edited that video in Premiere Pro and want to export it. The problem that I'm having is screen recording has a LOT of color between 0-16 and 235-255, so any broadcast color space I use makes the video look awful. I was wondering if anyone knows how I can render out with a 0-255 color space and a decent chroma subsampling (my guess is 4:2:2).
Thank you everyone for your help.

No, you are asking the right question, and I understand your problem. I just can't recreate it.
I just took a really wild Quicktime video I downloaded from Videoblocks.com that isn't anywhere close to being broadcast safe, and I exported it to a Windows Media file.
The first picture is a screenshot from the video. (it is a set of lower thirds in one video - I am just supposed to use one at a time of course.
The second picture is the Reference monitor from frame 12;24
I exported the sequence to a Windows Media file and then imported it, putting it right on top of the other video on the sequence so I could make sure to be on the exact same frame. The third picture is the reference monitor from the WMV file on the sequence.  As you can see, there is not much difference. Some, but you have to look closely.
So, my question to you, since I do not use FRAPS, is what are your sequence setting? Did you just drop a clip on the New button to create a new sequence with the exact right settings? And, are you making the mistake of using the renders to help you export?
The problem is that I don't understand your source material. I guess I could download FRAPS from somewhere and give it a try? I am just a bit busy with other things today.

  • Ipod accidently synced with Windows Media Player

When I hooked up my Ipod to my Windows computer and had Media Player up and running, it started to sync my files to my ipod....again...even though the same files are already on the ipod from itunes. When i sync my ipod now from itunes, it shows over 3 GB in "other"....the orange colored markings showing double the amount of music i'm supposed to have on there. How can I delete this "other" files from the ipod, which are uselessly taking up space without doing me any good at all?????? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Ok, I am definitely very technologically challenged, and I got a nano for christmas, and I have no idea how to get my music files from windows media player to itunes. I use limewire, which then puts all files in Media player, but my roomie accidentally deleted all my music from limewire, so now all that is in my itunes is all the music he downloaded from limewire after he deleted the library. Please help!!! I really wanna use my nano!!

  • DVI-HDMI-SDI Conversions and Color Space-what is happening?

Can someone explain signal processing when connecting computer monitors and LCD TVs via different connections and conversions?
    - DVI to HDMI
    - SDI (BM) to DVI
    - SDI (BM) to DVI to HDMI
    - SDI to DVI to HDMI
Are there differences in how each conversion processes color space? I am looking to keep it consistent when monitoring out of PPro and AE...latest CC versions...both PC and Mac workstations.
We never create media for typical broadcast or other conventional distribution. All media is custom animation for Special Events...large venue projection. But we do run multiple monitors and LCD for content creation and programming...many times running video thru a DVI Matrix or SDI Matrix for signal distribution. So I want to understand how each configuration effects video.
Does PPro always work in RGB? 0-255...AE as well? Or are there settings that must be set for this?
Thanks if anyone can help educate me!
    _phil

That is allot of info there and I will list some to get you started
    DVI - RGB
HDMI - RGB, YCBCR, or YUV
    SDI - YCBCR
Premiere - No color management ie colorspace control. I believe it just uses the media and current display output color space. You would have to ask someone at Adobe there.
AE - Color management ie colorspace control. You can set what space your coming from and going to.
Do you have any colorimeters to calibrate your display devices? If not I suggest you look at X-Rite since it is cross platform OSX and Windows.

  • Can you show slideshow within Lightroom 4.4 in Adobe RGB color space?

Can you show slideshow within Lightroom 4.4 (not export out from LR) in Adobe RGB color space provided that you are using a wide gamut monitor which is capable and hardware calibrated & profiled to show such color space?
If this is possible, what is required to do so in Windows 8 and i7-4770 & HD Graphics 4600 platform or does LR take care of it automatically?
This is very basic question, however, I could not find a clear answer/info from LR documentation, so wish that someone can advice.

Those settings are probably stored in a plist somewhere in ~/Library/Preferences. If you can locate the appropriate file, you should be able to copy it to all the network user folders.

  • Problem with "play to device" on windows media player

Hello, I'm having a problem with the play to device feature of windows media player.  I am trying to use it to play music files to my T.V.  It works fine if i try to play a single file or a small number of files (50 or so), but if I try to play
my entire playlist (346 songs, if it matters)in this way or a large number of random songs, nothing happens.  No error messages or freezes either, it's as if i never clicked play.  I thought this might be a limitation with the t.v. or my network
(im doing this via wi-fi) but when i tried this using windows explorer instead of windows media player it worked just fine, and this was with all the music on my computer which is about 3000 songs.  Therefore, i know this is a problem with windows media
player and not my t.v., network or computer.  This is a problem because i don't want to play all my music, just my playlist.  Short of making a separate folder with duplicate files in it for each and every playlist i want to play in this manner(which
is not only time consuming and tedious but takes up space on my hard drive)  how do i remove this limitation or otherwise get around it?  Thanks!
P.S.  Out of curiosity, why does this limitation exist and what causes it?

when i tried this using windows explorer instead of windows media player it worked just fine, and this was with all the music on my computer which is about 3000 songs.
    Hi,
According to your description, you said that you used windows explorer.Did you share 3000 songs with your TV?
If so,I think this method is different with "play to" feature.
Also,we haven't found any limitation with Windows media player.

  • ACR 4.1 Color space(s)

    Windows XP Bridge CS3
ACR 3.7 and previous used to give the option to convert to various colour spaces (profiles I always get confused here).
I've noticed that my Canon raw files show up in bridge as "colour mode RGB"
If I edit in ACR4.1 and save; they show up as "colour mode RGB and colour profile Adobe RGB" which is the color space of the camera (20D).
Files that I have previosly edited in lightroom (ACR 4) show up as "pro photo RGB"
I have my colour space in photoshop set to pro photo RGB so lightroom edited files open without a mismatch whereas files edited in ACR4.1 in bridge produce a colour space mismatch.
Am I missing something? or has the behavior of ACR changed in this respect since the comming of version 4?

It sounds like you have Camera Raw set to Adobe RGB. You can change that to Pro Photo RGB.
Along the bottom of the Camera Raw dialog box there should be a link that lists the color space, bit depth, file size, and resolution. Click on that change the Space from Adobe RGB to ProPhoto RGB.

  • Color Space on Thumbnail Image Variants

    Hi all-
I'm loading some CMYK images into my repository (5.5 SP05) and trying to use the default thumbnail variant in a web application. For some reason, even though the color space of the thumbnail is set to RGB, it doesn't get converted when the thumbnail is created. This results in a .jpg  that is CMYK (and isn't understood by a browser).
If I create a custom variant as .jpg and of the RGB color space, it works fine after generation. Is this a bug? Or is there a way to force the generation of thumbnails? I was trying to not have too many variants in my repository because I was worried about bloating it. Perhaps this shouldn't be a concern, but it still seems as if the thumbnail should get converted to RGB according to the settings in the Console. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Tim,
Sounds like this may be a bug. Since the Thumbnails are set to RGB, and cannot be changed, it seems as though they should be generated in RGB color space.
One thing to try. Go into the images table, right click on an image in the records window, and select Generate Thumbnail. I believe it will actually regenerate the thumbnail. Maybe this will regenerate with the RGB color space. That's my only idea. Other than that you really don't have much control over the thumbnails.

    Tim

  • Compatible with Windows Media Player?

Can you transfer music using Windows Media Player? It's been ages since I last moved music around on my BB8900 - but right now, syncs are not working which means I'm currently having to use Roxio media thingie to convert the .wma files to .mp3s.
If I try to sync. wma files the BB8900 it just complains about the 'format not being supported' and fails to play - BB Media Sync application also fails even though it does say the music tracked are 'supported'.
I'm sure I was using WMP with my old desktop (Vista 64-bit), but just can't get it to work with Windows 7 (64-bit).
Surely there's something obvious missing here?

Had similar issue with my BBCurve8310, v4.5.0.182 (which is the latest OS version ATT offers).  Running on WindowsXP,  IE7 and BB Desktop Manager v5.0.1..  My WMP is Version 11, which perhaps might be part of the issue.  It appears the BB-supported WMP format is Version 10?
Anyway, started my BB syncing odyssey by syncing some iTunes playlists, and most of those uploaded to my BB.  Then, I wanted to add my WMP songs that I had burned from CDs years ago (pre-iTunes), some great historic tunes (... no music library would be complete without them).   MediaSync appeared to sync the WMP songs, showing them as being in the "supported format".  The WMP Artists/Titles appeared on my BB, but the songs weren't transferred.  Also, that move deleted my previously-synced iTunes off the BB.  What just happened?  Why did syncing the WMP to the BB delete the approx. 500 iTunes songs already on the BB?  Had plenty of space on the Media Card.   I'm still searching for a resolution.  BB Desktop Manager is supposed to sync WMP files. Not a good result.  Had to re-sync the iTunes playlists.
I'll sample the Media Manager drag and drop feature for the WMP files, but I'm not immediately finding a lot of info on how the BB software converts the WMP files to MP3, and want to avoid having to re-sync the iTunes again.....
Thanks to BB/RIM  for the good on-line support info, and for the posts in cyberspace, that got me this far... at least some of the iTunes are up and running on the Curve.   :-)

  • Windows Media Player Doesn't play video files or DVDs (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    Hello,
I recently purchased a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium on it. Since then, Windows Media Player has not been able to play any kind of video files or DVDs. I have tried using the Fixit tool and turning the WMP off and on with the Windows
Features menu, but it has not solved the problem. I have also made sure that my video and audio drivers are up to date.
The errors that come up say:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or a required codec might not be installed on your computer.
    and
Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.
Any help with this would be great, because I like using WMP better than other media players.

    Hi,
Firstly, please try to use the Video example in C:\Users\Public\Videos\Sample Videos if it could play normally.
Secondly, try to reinstall Graphic Card driver for test.
If problem persists, try to remove WMP in Windows feature and add it again for test.

  • Windows Media Player 12 under Win 7 Pro 64 nolonger able to play DVD

    Hello TechNet
"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card.  Try installing an updated driver for your video card."
It seems that I have recently joined the chorus of MS users who have a Media Player DRM issue, where DVD's that would work perfectly well in WMP12 and MCE are nolonger being recognised. The error message above is displayed now, every time a commercial DVD
movie is inserted into the DVD drive where WIN 7 Pro 64 autoplay is used to open WMP12, The instruction to update video drivers is also not the solution.
Considering that I have until recently, been able to play DVD with my current NVIDIA driver 314.22Whql (now updated to 332.21Whql) and my DVD drive remains exactly as before, the Codec's installed with Win7 Pro 64 WMP 12 are unchanged and were working
fine. I do not know now what has caused the removal of DRM or the suggestion that my MPEG2 codecs can nolonger allow access to  commercial DVD content.
I have tried all the suggestions raised about this issue from other MS users and MPV's in the forum, I have renamed the DRM folder and reset Windows Media DRM as directed. I have checked for a suitable MPEG2 codec/decoder on my system of which I have
several choices, including the one installed with Win 7 Pro 64 / WMP 12.
I have checked to see if I have a region issue with my DVD drive, and can confirm that the DVD drive will play DVD content when Playing DVD with "NERO 9 Showtime", this proves to me that the codec/DVD decoder is working in
my system, I then try Win 7s MCE (Media Center) and WMP12, the result is a black unresponsive screen in MCE, and the error message noted above in WMP with a black screen in the player.
I would like to know if MS are working on a rectification for the issue, as none of the proposed solutions deliver any functionality back to MS default DVD players. Is there an update in the works to provide a definitive solution for WMP12 and MCE DVD functionality.
Could you provide any new ideas, other than those already proposed to regain DVD function under MS default DVD programs.
    Cheers Jeff

    Hi Sengupta,
Yes I have already tried - Reset DRM using the method described in a post by another MS MPV here in the forum.
This is the method I used :
    1. First open My Computer go to Tools>FolderOptions>View> uncheck >Hide Protected Operating System Files >
so that I can see the DRM folder and its contents.
    2. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM  >Delete the contents of the DRM folder, these hidden files and the Cache folder with its contents. (Cache,
    blackbox.bin, drmstore.hds, IndivBox.key,
    IndivBox_64.key, v2ksndv.bla, v3ks.bla,
v3ks.sec) DRM folder empty ready for DRM Reset via web link.
    3. Go to start menu Find InternetExplorer > right Click icon select > Run as Administrator > Blank Web page opens > I then paste the link provided (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp)
into the Url space > click Enter > a web page for Windows Media Technologies (Security Component Upgrade) opens.
    4. I then click on the 'Upgrade Button' and wait for it to search for upgrade components (Progress Status: Upgrading security components.... ), A download dialog then appears asking me to proceed. I then click 'Upgrade' and wait for it to
    finish downloading & installation
(Progress Bar). . The install then completes saying the upgrade was successful I then click 'Done' close Browser and restart Computer.
    5. I then recheck inside the DRM folder that I had erased - the new downloaded files and Cache Folder with contents are all back inside the folder, as expected.
    6. Upon restart I place a DVD that I know was working before into the DVD drive and wait, the DVD autostarts WMP12 with the onscreen DVD Disk navigation menu appearing. I then click 'Play' with in the menu option, to begin the
    Movie.
    7. The resulting error reappears when clicking Play
"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder,
and video card.  Try installing an updated driver for your video card."
I will try once more to Reset the DRM using the Tool you have linked to, and follow your instruction exactly. Will see how it goes!  ............stay tuned
It would be much appreciated If you could research  which MS update has broken DRM, the recent updates which I can think of right now would be :
nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275
now replaced by Nvidia v332.21Whql Drivers.
Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems
    Possibly,
Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 64bit ( which I have had to remove, rolling back to IE10 to allow use in another Forum without errors and glitches). something about IE11 Browser is not right, maybe a security component from IE11
has interfered with DRM (Just guessing though)
But I think it is more than likely a security update that was downloaded and installed at the same time as these other major Microsoft Update offerings.
    Cheers Jeff
