Color stylewriter with os10,9

i get a message that serial port is in use by another application.
worked fine in os 9.2.2
wallstreet pb Mac OS X (10.3.9) 320 meg ram

AppleSpec says that is a serial QuickDraw-only printer, but that there were optional Localtalk and Ethernet options. I think the Ethernet option may have consisted of a farallon EtherMac iPrint LS (a model specifically for Apple serial StyleWriters) painted beige.

The device that is usually hogging the port and keeping you from printing in directly-booted Mac OS 9 tends to be AppleTalk/LocalTalk. Sometimes it just gets turned on by itself, sometimes a weak backup battery can increase the likelihood of it getting turned on.
Neither serial printers nor QuickDraw printers are natively supported in Mac OS X. You can use AppleTalk-over-Ethernet printers in Classic, if your printer supports it.
There are some Open Software drivers available from Linux-Printing that are getting more native support in Mac OS X as time goes on. They are available here:

I am having difficulty finding a printer that will print on 11 x 17 paper and is compatible with OS10. I currently have a Canon that is not releasing and has no plans to release updated drivers. All the printers I find seem to fall into two categories super photo printer or multi-function with nothing bigger than legal size. I don't need color just b&w 11 x 17 laser if possible. Any ideas?

Replacement serial cable needed for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500

Hello,
I have a question. I lost the serial printer cable for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500, but if I order a replacement serial printer cable from we love macs, will the cable still work just as good as the original apple cable? I didn't want to have troubles with printing and data errors with the replacement cable. Or should I try to get as close to original one as I can?
Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

With Apple, you only have 14 days to return a product. Due to the design of the iPad, there's no way to make any changes - color, battery, screen glass, amount of memory, etc - to the iPad.

Is it possible to convert a Color Stylewriter 200 (9 pin serial cable) so that it can work with Windows XP?

The color style writer 2200 was produced in collaboration with apple and canon. If you search in google images, type bjc80 and you'll see it's the same design and the same ink cartridge.
So may be try to use bjc80 driver for color style writer 2200 on windows xp but may be on pc this printer was used with parallel port but a thing I'm sure there was an irda (infrared) port.
Other thing, try to user EPson LQ print driver sometimes it works.

Can anyone suggets how I can fix it, as the MBP appears to be fine, its updated with all the latest versions of software and the WiFi network is also fine....just not with my MBP??

The image is there but is invisible. same issue when I want to draw a line. We have an imac with os10.6.8 and safari 5.1.10 we have been getting messages that some site no longer support 5.1.10. I am concerned about upgrading, as we had trouble with a previous update with our bank. I checked with the bank and they are suggesting waiting, but other sites like youtube what the upgrade. Has anyone had problems with the new safari? Our imac is pushing 8 years old, but we are not ready to replace it.

Upgrading from 10.6.8 to a newer OS has implications for many Mac owners. Lion (10.7) ended support for software that was originally written for older Macs that used Motorola processors. Owners who kept their software current had few issues upgrading to Lion when it was released but a lot of people suddenly found they had software that wouldn’t run any longer.
Another thing to consider is the age of your computer. A 2007 or 2008 iMac can run Lion fine and even Mt Lion (10.8) but Mavericks is a reach. It was Mavericks that prompted my purchase of a new iMac in late 2012. Given that you say your iMac is pushing 8 and you don’t want to replace it yet, don’t consider upgrading beyond Mt Lion. You won’t find Lion or Mt Lion for sale at the App store but I believe that you can still purchase them by contacting Apple directly.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.

Color printing with high resolution in smartforms

Hello colleagues...
I need to print color images with True-color resolution, but in Form Graphics Administrator ( transaction SE78 ) I can only upload pictures with extension TIFF and BMP, and with resolution 24-bit maximum.
With this resolution, the quality of colors will not be optimal because is distorted from original.
This printing we need for labels that have pantone code of colors, that should not be changed to any similar tones.
Does anybody knows how can I print true color pics with smartforms without reducing image quality?
Or exist any other tool in SAP for printing with high quality?

You can upload TrueColor 24 bit Bitmaps into SE78, but SE78 converts them to 256 color images, that's why you see reduces quality when the image is printed. I think it's not possible to print images higher than 256 colors using existing smartform technology.

Dip to Color transition with graphic

I'm using a Dip to Color Dissolve transition between a black screen and a graphic that has colored text with a black background. When using the transition, I get the flash of white color, as intended, but the outline of the graphic is visibile. Dragging along the timeline, I found that this was because the graphic, centered in the screen, changes color more slowly than the rest of the empty space around, making it so that you can see the square outline of the image during the transition.
Is there a way to fix it so that the graphic and the background change color throughout the transition at the same time, making it clean and unable to see the outline of the graphic?
My apologies if the explanation is somewhat confusing, I'd be happy to clarify if necessary! Thanks!

One way is to insert a Slug.
Click the little A button in the Viewer and select.
Transitions in FCE require Media Handles to be associated with clips to work like Dip to Colour. Search this forum for more info on Media Handles.

Color StyleWriter 2400

I just upgraded from OS9 to OSX 10.2. I have a Color SW2400 printer. When I had OS9 I had to install the driver for SW2500, but that worked fine. Now I don't know where to look and what to set to get my computer to print. I tried installing the SW2500 software again but that didn't help. When I open OSX "Print Center" there are no printers showing and it won't add any because it says Apple Talk must be active, but yet the active box IS checked. What do I do?

The Color StyleWriter 2400 will work very well in OS X. Your post does not indicate what model Mac you are running, but I will assume you have a built in serial port or an adapter such as the Keyspan serial to USB adapter.
To get your StyleWriter to work in OS X, you need to do the following:
1. If you are using a Keyspan adapter, install the Keyspan drivers and hook up the Keyspan adapter and printer. It doesn't matter whether you use port 1 or port 2 on the adapter. Just be sure to keep the printer on the same port all the time.
2. Download and install ESP Ghostscript
3. Make sure your printer is attached and turned on.
4. Download and install the Foomatic for StyleWriter package.
NOTE: This is a package put together by Christian Walther. The link I have to download this from his site is not working at present. I will carry it on my site at least until his site is functioning again.
5. Run the two AppleScript applications that are part of the Foomatic for Stylewriter disk image. It is here that you will tell the software what port on the adapter you are using and set up a printer queue by selecting the model StyleWriter you have. The Keyspan port names can be a bit cryptic at times. They will have "KeySerial" or "USA" as part of the port name.
6. Print.

Most any USB keyboard will work with your Mac Mini.
I have been using a couple of Logitech MK120 - USB Keyboard & Mouse Combo's with iMac's and Mac Mini's for years.
The key funtions may very (the Command and Option keys are reversed and the Volume up & down keys may or may not work) depending on what keyboard you get.

Being a discontinued product now, it is probably time to move on to something else.

Font color issue with inserted HTML content in JTextPane (HTMLEditor)

Hi everyone,
I have a very serious issue with the HTMLEditor I'm developping. This editor is a little bit special since it is intended to edit blocks of HTML content that are loaded when the editor is initialized.
You can in fact decide to keep this loaded HTML content or start a new HTML document from scratch. Alright, now my issue is the following :
When text is loaded, it's properly rendered. I have a functionality which let's you see the HTML code from the HTML document used in the editor, so I can check and see if code is correct, and yes, it's correct.
The problem is that when I try to change the color attribute of some text on my loaded content, nothing happens ! I don't know what's the matter with this bug, I only have it with the color attribute, with every other attribute everything's fine (font, size, etc.)
The funny thing is that, after I change another attribute for loaded content, like font family, then changing color attribute funcionnality starts to work again !
I've also noticed that I don't have any of these problems when I start my HTMLDocument from scratch (when I create a new HTML document and start typing text).
Another weird thing, is that I have a feed-back feature in my editor which reflects attributes for text over which the caret is positionned. For example, if you put caret over red text, the color combo box displays a red value, you know, just like in MS Word. Well, with my loaded content if I have a red text color and I decide to put it in green, the color combo box displays the green value when I click over text for which I have changed color, but in my JTextPane it's still red !! And when I try to see the HTML code generated nothing has changed, everything is still red !
There is something really strange here, this means that when I get the attributes of the loaded text from the HTMLDocument, color appears to be green, but when it gets rendered in the JTextPane it's still red and when it gets anlyzed to produce the corresponding HTML code, these changed attributes are not taken into account.
But the most weird thing above all, is that I don't have this bug everytime, sometimes I start my HTML editor applet and it works fine, and some other times this color issue is bakc there. Is this a known bug for Swing API or not ?
