Color sync

After running ColorSync utility, I received the error message, "Header padding is not null." Cannot be repaired, file is locked.
What is this and if it needs fixing, how do I fix it?
Thanks, all.
Kate

I personally wouldn't trust any error messages ColorSync displays about any profile. Trying to "fix" the profiles usually ends up destroying them. That when they worked just fine the way they were.
I use i1 Profiler to create my own profiles. If anyone knows anything about how to create a profile properly, X-Rite certainly should. As a quick test (though I basically knew what was coming), I ran Profile First Aid to check my profiles. It flagged many profiles as having errors, including those I created.
A common "for instance" is that ColorSync will tell you something like this:
Header white point is not D50.
All that means is that the monitor profile I use is set to a D50 (5000K) white point, and the profile it flags doesn't. Most likely it's set to D65 (6500K). That's not an error, just a color mismatch. ColorSync will take care of such mismatches when you translate from one color space to another. That's what it's supposed to do.
In a nutshell, if your profiles are producing the color management you expect, leave them alone and ignore anything ColorSync Utility says about them.

  • Edit Color Sync for Exports for Web Sites

    Hi,
Perhaps this has been covered, but I've not found the thread. Most of the export color sync questions seem to revolve around printing or displaying on one's own monitor. Neither is an issue for me. However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out. Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB. I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile; however, my default EXIF - Expanded shows "Color Model" as simply "RGB", and "Profile Name" is Adobe RGB (1998) (my Canon 50D is set to sRGB). Again, I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors. Where/how can I change the export for uploading jpg's to the web.
    Thanks,
    Nick

I understand that Aperture uses a proprietary color sync profile
If the profile were proprietary, it would be an illegal profile under the ICC Specification.
However, I note that my RAW images exported from Aperture 2.0 as jpg's and then uploaded to web sites such as Jalbum and Orkut are washed out.
If you did not disable embedding of an ICC source colour space in Aperture, if you did not use a non-ICC enabled browser, the OS X system level services will set up a ColorWorld and convert the pixels in your JPEGs matching from the ICC source colour space to the ICC destination colour space of your display. Thus you will get what you uploaded in the first place.
I have seen suggestions on this forum that one can change these settings, but the process appears to be only for printers and monitors.
The idea is that each and every colour device is calibrated and that calibration is captured in a colourimetric colour characterisation from which an ICC colour device profile is computed. Colourants that form certain colours one one colour device at one calibration will form other colours in the same colour device at another calibration and in other colour devices at yet other calibrations. By means of device profiles, the COLOURS can be kept constant while the COLOURANTS are recomputed to compel the device to paint the closest possible match it is capable of.
Some forums have suggested this is due to those websites being optimized for sRGB.
The issue is whether people who post pictures do or do not embed ICC source colour spaces into their pictures and whether they pick browsers that are ICC-enabled or pick colour blind browsers.
To determine if there is an embedded ICC source colour space in a picture, download the picture to disk, open iApple Preview and select Tools > Get Info > Summary.
Colour Model: This defines the format or model of the colourants, e.g. three component RGB, four component CMYK.
ColorSync Profile: This defines the ICC source colour space. If there is none in the image file, the system level service assigns the Generic RGB Profile for model RGB, the Generic CMYK Profile for model CMYK and so forth. Therefore, any ICC source colour space than a Generic Profile source colour space is embedded in the image file itself.
In technical terms, the rule is that to construct a ColourWorld that does a colour space conversion through the PCS Profile Connection Space, you have to have an ICC source colour space and an ICC destination colour space (typically your display profile). It follows that the system level service ASSIGNS an ICC source colour space automatically where is none embedded. The ICC source colour space that is assigned when there is none embedded is the Generic RGB Profile for colourant model RGB, as explained.

  • I'M (not) SEEING RED!  Color Sync issues w/ Pixma 4000

For some reason the magenta is really off on my printer (canon pixma 4000). Regardless if I print something on Photoshop, iPhoto 5, or Google Maps (Double True), the red hue is a faded hue, almost orange.
All my inks are full and have been installed correctly; I've checked. I'm using Kodak photo glossy and matte paper. I even print it to "photo quality", but not avail. Basically all paper, even with standard office paper the results are the same. Even when I print with the "Color Sync" option checked, the results are the same. I even reinstalled the driver.
Could it be my color sync from the monitor to the printer is off? How do I get these two to cooperate better? My monitor is a 15" Apple Studio Display with display profile set to 1.8 Gamma, D65 neutral white.
    Any suggestions are appriciated.
    Thanks!

  • Where is color sync located (not color utility) which is required to download icc profiles? Dolores

Where is color sync located (not color utility)?  I am downloading an icc profile from Ilford paper and the instructions say to first download into downloads, then move to Library.  This I did.  But I cannot find Color Sync to move the profile into.  When I did the "search" the list that turned up was not applicable. After that it needs to go to Profiles inorder that Lightroom 4 paper profiles list can receive it and be able to print according to the profile.  How will I find Profiles? Thanks, Dolores  P.S. I have successfully downloaded profiles before, but this time I am stumped.

Where ICC profiles live on different operating systems
    Windows 7, Vista and XP:
    \Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color
    Win98/Me - Windows/System/Color
    WinNT - WinNT/System32/Color
    Win2K- WinNT/System32/Spool/Drivers/Color
    WinXP - Windows/System32/Spool/Drivers/Color
On a mac, it's Library/ColorSync/Profiles either in the root or user
Epson places their profiles inside a package (a self- contained group of files) found in Main LibraryÆPrintersÆEpsonÆ SP2200.plugin*ÆContentsÆResourcesÆICC Profiles.

  • Color changes (darkens) in screen capture - color sync gamma setting?

I encountered this weird effect that the color darkens when I did a screen capture in one Mac but not the other.
In fact, it darkens more with shift-ctrl-cmd-4 (selection capture) than with shift-ctrl-cmd-3 (whole screen capture).
The knowledge base mentioned the gamma setting in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3712 but the color darkens in the clipboard, so there is no way to change the color sync if it is not a file. I tried to re-calibrate my display using different gamma setting, but it didn't change any color.
In my other Mac, I can do a screen capture and the color is preserved as is. It is only in one Mac that did this. The color darkens so much that it practically becomes black-and-white.
Any suggestion would help. I think it has something to do with the color sync profile setting.

I found out that the darkening of the color in screen capture is caused by screenshot captured into jpeg. The darkening happens when the lines are thin, due to the averaging effect of jpeg. If the lines are thick, then the change in color is not apparent.
Now, the problem is, I can't change screen capture to capture in png. I used Tinker Tool, and deleted com.apple.screencapture.plist , nothing would change it back to capture in png.

  • Scanner not showing up in Color Sync

Trying to trouble shoot a slight color problem with my new scanner. I made a profile, but when I look in the Color Sync Utility, it doesn't show my scanner.

  • On my 10.6.8, my preview application disappeared and all my documents are coming up as color sync utility. So I can't print anything. HELP!

Where did my preview application go? I have been trying to print documents but everything is coming up under color sync utility, which I don't even know what it is, and there is no "Print" option. All the previous questions about this problem say to go to Preview, but it has gone away. I've looked in Finder and Apps and had both my 20 something children look for it, and none of us know what to do next.
I have a 10.6.8 Mac using Google Chrome as my server, if that matters.

Download Find File for Mac  If that piece of software can't find it, you can custom install Preview directly from the disc that came with your Mac when you purchased.  It's inside disc #1.  Follow the online instructions.

  • What Does This Color Sync Profile First  Aid Log Mean??

I have been helping a friend trouble shoot some printing problems he is having with iPhoto. In the process, he ran verify in Profile First Aid in Color Sync. He got some errors and asked me to run mine. Here is my result:

I am having no problems with color output when printing (that I know of). He has been having color balance and other problems printing from iPhoto. My errors are the exact same as his in this Profile First Aid Log. What is the significance of these errors? Should they be repaired?
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

    Hi Steve,
    The problem is something else.
This report is showing you there are 5 profile out of 929 that your OS doesn't agree with for whatever reason.
Your friends issue is different than yours (yours works fine & his doesn't), this report has the same info in it because it's looking at the same profiles installed in the OS.
How the profiles are applied depends on the output device, paper, inks, yadda-yadda-ya.
Do not try to repair the ICC's, as they're most likely just fine. You should be able to find suitable results in one of the other 924 profiles, even if that was the issue.
Look for something different between your setups.
We're happy to help, but we need to know more about how the user is trying to print when the errors occur.
Applications, driver versions, printer, color space, etc.

  • Printing with Epson/PS CS3- missing color sync options

When I try to print images from PS CS3 with my Epson Stylus Photo 2100, my print-box doesn't give me option "Color sync" anymore. I used to be able to choose whether to use Color sync or No Color management. I have downloaded all the latest drivers I have found from epson, but no help.

    What OS version, driver version?
CS3 was one strange beast when it came to printing. Seems it had  elements of both Apple printing paths and depending on what OS version and driver version you are using you will get different results.  I have no trust what so ever printing from CS3.
It does seem on a box running 10.6.3 and CS3 here that the 8.19 driver for the 9600 is working correctly like a application using Apple's new print path when PS Manages Color is selected. In the driver under Color Matching, ColorSync is correctly grayed out and under Print Settings, Color Settings is defaulted (grayed out) to Off (No Color Adjustment. This is the correct behavior.
Now if you're trying to use Printer Manages Color, in the driver under Color Matching, Epson Color Controls is incorrectly grayed out  and there is no way to choose ColorSync. If this is what you are talking about you should try PS Manages Color. This happens in CS3 and CS4. In CS5 when choosing Printer Manages Color, in the driver under Color Matching, nothing is grayed out  and and you can choose ColorSync. Just maybe Adobe and Epson have finally caught up with Apple's new printing path, but then again this could still be a moving target.

  • I messed my color sync profile up. How can I reset my color sync profile to factory settings?

I messed my color sync profile up. How can I reset my color sync profile to factory settings?
Core 2 Duo, OS Lion (not mountain)

Hi, yes, I messed it up by trying to edit it.
I just clicked configure and changed the options. Is there a factory setting I can reset it to?
The problem when I try to get it back to normal is that it never looks just like it did. It looks mainly fine, but things like light blues look wrong.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Select one of those files and type Command-I. • Flag color sync in Apple Mail with Gmail and Yahoo?

It appears that colored flags sync through iCloud for your @me.com email address. Is there a way to get the colored flags to sync across computers for a Yahoo or Google account? For example, if I flag an email in my Gmail account with a Green Flag on my Apple desktop computer in Apple Mail, is there a way to get the flag to show up as Green on my laptop in Apple Mail? Currently, the fact that the email is flagged syncs across computers and accounts, but not the particular color of the flag. Also, highlighting an email a certain color does not appear to sync, even for my @me.com account. And lastly, now that Apple has switched from Mobile Me to iCloud, they have given up Mail Rule syncing... is there a way to get my Apple Mail Rules to sync between computers? Thanks!

Upon further investigation, I have determined that flag colors applied in Apple's Mail program DO sync through your iCloud @me.com email address AND through a Google gmail account. However, flag colors DO NOT sync through Yahoo. Email highlight colors DO NOT appear to sync through iCloud, Gmail, or Yahoo. If anyone figures out a way to enable any of these features that at the moment do not sync (flag color in Yahoo, highlight color, mail rules), please respond!

I found my problem. It was some bad ink cartridges. After I went through and replaced all six cartridges the problem went away. The error message doesn't specify which cartridges to replace, just 'replace ink cartridge'.
