Color tint shifts constantly during isight recording

I recently updated from a 13" aluminum MacBook to a 13" MacBook Pro. When I record the video of the isight camera, the lighting color constantly shifts from red to green to red etc. Very annoying. It didn't do this with my 1 year old MacBook. The MacBook Pro isight is terrible. I reviewed a previous post and have not been able to resolve the issue. Any suggestions? Apple Care is closed already tonight on the east coast.
Thanks,
Richard

I may be answering my own inquiry. When the light source is compact fluorescent lighting of medium intensity, it appears the video camera searches for the "correct" color balance. Unfortunately, the wavelength output of low wattage compact fluorescent bulbs is vastly different from incandescent bulbs. By increasing the lighting levels in the room (turn on some other lights), the software is able to lock on a color and produces a stable color image. Using mixed fluorescent bulbs (cool & warm bulbs) can sometimes confuse the system's ability to set the best color.
If the color constantly shifts, turn on some additional lighting. It will stabilize the results. If the final color is not optimal, there is software that can be used to shift the color to your preference.
I hope this helps others who are experiencing the same issue. The camera has certain limitations due to size and resolution. If you want high quality video, you could always use a small HD video camera - like the new Sanyo Xacti SC1 coming out in March - to record your video.

  • Error 2014 during iSight recording

I have been trying to record video through iSight on my Macbook Pro, but after a while (maybe roughly 20-30 minutes into the recording) the video starts getting choppy and it gives the error # 2014.
    Any ideas?

    Make shorter recordings?
View the window to note how large your file is getting. Device Native files can be huge and you'll have problems when free hard drive space is running low.
You can always join these short captures together or send them to other apps for further editing.
You can also "Pause" your captures by holding down the Option key before clicking on the red button in the recording window.

  • LR 1.1 unwanted color or tint shift

I'm using Lightroom 1.1 (haven't downloaded 1.3.1 update yet) on a Windows XP (SP2) system, and all of a sudden the color/tint of many of the photos in my library have taken on a yellowish or greenish tint. This seems to have occurred after a recent import in which I didn't initially import my RAW files (CR2) into LR, but into the Canon Browser EX software first.
After importing this latest folder from my pictures folder into LR, I've noticed that many of my previously imported photos (some developed/modified, many not yet) have taken on a tint that makes the whites into a yellowish/brownish tint, and the blues have become somewhat greenish. Some imported folders appear to be unaffected, or the problem is not noticeable (those taken in low light at concerts). Nothing in the develop settings indicates any changes that would've added this tint to these photos.
Finally, when viewing the same photos in Canon DPP or Browser EX or in Windows Explorer, the same photos appear totally fine, with the proper tint/hues.
I recently purchased a new monitor (Samsung BW 216), but this shouldn't be a problem as the pictures appear perfect when viewed using these other programs or just as a screensaver or background.
    Any ideas??

    > recently purchased a new monitor (Samsung BW 216)
How are you calibrating that monitor? Lightroom will exacerbate problems with certain monitor profiles. Especially canned profiles from monitor manufacturers seem to cause major problems because they often have a corrupt perceptual rendering intent. If you're not calibrating your monitor with a hardware calibrator, you need to start doing so as it is simply impossible to get good color in any program without it. In the mean time, delete any profile that is shown in the color management pane of the monitor's properties to see if that will fix the problem. The fact that other programs look normal is because they do not color manage at all, so a bad monitor profile will not show up in those programs. Their color will also always be incorrect because of that. The only way top get correct color is to calibrate your monitor and use a color managed app.
    >haven't downloaded 1.3.1 update yet
Do so as soon as you can. Many problems were fixed in the two major version updates.

  • Color/ brightness shift within Apple Pic and video programs..

OK.. here is my issue. For all photo / video editing applications (iMovie, iPhoto, Aperature, Final Cut Pro x) just as I open these apps the color/ brightness shifts within the WHOLE OS. I can open lightroom 4 and nothing happens, its apple photo/ video apps only. The second I close the apps my wallpaper, dock, ect. goes back to what it was before I opened the app. The effect is a slight blue tint ( cooler ) and slightly brightened. It is EXTREAMLY annoying. I am not using any calibrated color profile, I am on the standard color LCD profile.
Just incase it needs to be clarified:
    -turn on MBP
-get in OS with one color profile ( standard color LCD profile active )
-open aperature and display gets blue tint and slightly brightter ( can minimize app and everything is effected by color / brightness shift )
-close app... back to normal LCD color profile.
Now I have come across this issue in the past (over 6 months ago) messed around with color profile settings ( in the end put everything back to default ) and out of no where, problem went away. After Doing a SSD swap and restoring my OS with time machine, the issue is back... And I just cant get it to go away again.
Its like these apple applications load up a different color profile as they open, and once they care closed, it knows to put the other back on. Its so fustrating, I can not edit my photos like this.
Has anyone come accross this issue?
if so... any fix for this?
All my apps and OS is up to date.

  • Photoshop CS6 colors have shifted for PSD files; no longer match Bridge colors, resulting jpg colors off too

Until last night, Photoshop has been working relatively well** (see below) However, I processed a batch of DNG files through Bridge and saved them as PSDs.  When I opened up the new PSD files in PSCS5, the colors had shifted - more green, less saturated.
I went back to the DNG files and opened each up separately in PS - the color looked good.  I edited them, saved them as PSD files, and reopened them in PS - the colors were bad.
I cleared the Preferences (by holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift) when restarting PS.  Although it cleared up the pre-existing issue explained below **, it didn't fix the issue with the colors.
I rebooted my computer.  No luck.
I looked for available updates. None available.
I recalibrated my monitor (ColorMunki).  No luck.
I don't know what I did/what happened to cause the problem.  The day before, everything was fine.
I tried to fix it by experimenting with option under View.  The closest I could get the colors to matching those shown in Bridge was to set  View--Proof Colors-- Monitor RGB.
But here's the kicker - when I did a "save as" in PS the resulting jpeg had the same gross color shown in PS before setting the proof colors to Monitor RGB - and the jpeg colors are gross in Bridge and PS!  The same thing happens if I run a batch of PSDs via Bridge and save them as jpegs.  The resulting jpegs look gross in both PS and Bridge.
    HELP!
I'm using a PC with Windows 7.  All the images jpegs, DNG and PSD are in the RBG color space.
**(except for one weird issue - when I would try to open up a color balance layer, it would open a levels layer instead)

  • Why do my PRO-100 black and white prints have a color tint?

I am printing on the PIXMA Pro-100 printer and sometimes, for no apparent reason (?), my black and white prints will have a color tint (usually a "redish brown"), and then when printing again... same print, same settings... the same print will be fine, neutral with no tint at all.
    Any ideas why?
Also (maybe related?) I don't understand why the Photo-Cyan and Magenta ink cartridges are being depleted when I am NOT printing color, but only Black and White.  Am I missing something?  When setting up for printing I always make sure the "Black and White Print" feature is selected in the settings dialog "Quick Setup".  Doesn't this insure that only the black and grey inks are used as long as I am not "toning"?  In other words... if ONLY the black and grey inks are used, isn't the print supposed to be a neutral black and white print? Again... am I missing something?
    FYI:
I am printing on Canon Pro Luster and Plus Semi-Gloss papers.
Under "Options - Color Management" I have selected:
(color handling) Photoshop Elements Manages Colors
    (image space) Adobe RGB (1998)
(printer profile) Canon PRO-100 <LU> 1/2 Photo Paper Pro Luster
    (rendering intent) Perceptual
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It looks like you have the settings pretty close.  But the fact is all printers use all their cartridges to print B&W.
     Whoa, why?
Yes it is true and the reason is this.  B&W consists of 256 shades of gray. From totaly black which is 0 to white which is 256.
If you have just one, two or three cartridges to make 256 different blacks and grays all the way to white, it simply isn't possibile.
The ony thing a printer can do is, amount of ink and how long.  So it makes up for this by using all it's cartridges.  However, in Canon it seems like the Pro-100 tints show up more than it should.  There are dedicated B&W printers but they are designed differently to accomplish true B&W.
The tint will be different on different papers.  You can experiment to find the paper that does best for you.  Try a more gloss type paper and see if you like the B&W.  You can try Red River papers, too.  They will assist you in picking a good B&W paper.
You can also experiment with filters in PSE.  Adding a little blue may help.  Just give it a try.
But the bottom line is you are no doing anything wrong.  It is just the charchter of the beast.

  • ISight recording

I'm getting the new 20 in iMac in June, and have a question about the iSight. Can you record directly to your computer? As an example, record a video message or greeting and email it as a file to someone? Or hypethticaly, as a security device? Have the iSight record all time when the user is away?
These questions are more just out of interest than need, I just think it could be useful if able to record directly to your mac.

  • ISight recording will not be added to iMovie

I'm having great trouble with iSight recording. When I'm done with the recording, and press "stop", it will not upload the sequence to iMovie. In addition, the picture often freeze or is just black so I have to try many times.
Any clue why this is so?

Not enough information to diagnose "why." However, until you get better suggestions, here are some things you can try in any order that seems reasonable for your system.
    (1) Sometimes merely restarting the Mac gets things going. Also, if too many apps are running, you may have problems with the significant processing demands of capturing and writing video to disk.  It might even be helpful to turn off your airport card to be sure your MBA is not trying to use other apps like checking for Mail or making a Time Machine backup while you are trying to capture video.
Also, be sure you are not trying to simultaneously use more than iSight application.
Restart your MBA and quit any login items that may be running before launching iMovie. Then make a short test video to see if it works properly. If so, make several other short test clips to see if the improved results are repeatable.
    (2) Be sure you have lots (I like 40GB or more) of available disk space. If your disk has too little space, disk writing will place additional demands on your Mac. If necessary, backup important info you can do without and move or delete some of your user data to create more free space. Then restart and test iMovie/iSight again.
    (3) If you are concerned that the problem may be related to your iSight, use Apple's troubleshooting suggestions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 to see if the problem is the same in other apps or user accounts.

  • Color values shift from Illustrator to Photoshop

    Hi there:
Hopefully someone has an answer for me (my apologies if this has been addressed before)?
When  I open up a EPS file in Illustrator CS5, the blacks read !00% for RGB. When  exported as a JPG, Photoshop CS5 reads it as 0-0-0. So far so good. But  when copy and paste the same EPS into a Photoshop files, as a smart  object, the values change to 4-7-7. I've tried that with other colors,  and it seems the color values shift when using as a smart object. Any  ideas on why and how to remedy this?
I will also post in the Photoshop forum as well...
    Thanks,
    Lisa

So I also had someone else reply in the Photoshop forum about this. Apparently, I need to be using the Adobe RGB (1998) color space on both applications in order for the numbers to reflect the correct color values.
Not sure why it wouldn't do so in other color spaces (I had mine initially set to sRGB on both apps), and I'll need to see if this runs into any issues on our end.
If you have any more insight, I would love to hear it. But thanks for your help!

You need check the inspection characteristic's control indicator.
    Transaction QP03 (display inspection plan)
If you set 'Docu. required' in control indicator of inspection characteristic, additional text must always be entered to document the inspection results during results recording for this characteristic.
Try to change the indicator to 'No documentation' then there will be no more that message in transaction QE71.

Without knowing your exact color management settings we can't tell you much. By default Inkscape exports plain sRGB which should work just fine in a default AE with CM turned off as well...

  • Shift Confirmation during COR6N

    Hi,
How to do shift confirmation during cor6n? or during a process order confirmation.
I don't see a spot for shift, but if I put the start and finish date,
    and time stamp, save.
and go to display - cort,
then I see the shift in the Personnel/ addition data.
This issue is it always comes as 1.
Is there some other way of doing shift confirmation?
I have maintained he appropriate shift sequence, - 3shifts,
    assigned to the the resource.
    Help will be appreciated.
    Thnx!

    Hi Abhi,
Same issue i have also faced.we managed this issue by making use of reason for variances(GRUND)field where we difined 3 shifts in reason for variance in customising and we made that field mandatory.we changed that field name as Shift.when ever during confirmation is being done users were entering the shifts in this field.
reason for variance ,we wre capturing in confirmation text.
discuss with the buisnees ,is that ok and decide

    Well!
If you have ThunderBolt, I would go with such for an External Working Drive, spinning platter or SSD depending on your budget
This does not have to be huge just big enough to house your most current Jobs
Once the Current Job is put to rest I would move it to a larger multi bay hard drive unit, USB or FireWire nothing fancy, no RAID, set up as one single Disk
This would only be accessed when something is needed from a past Job so the connection does not have to be speedy
The Drobo would be relegated to Vaults and backups
You can set up a Vault on the Drobo to back up the External Working Library and then Reconnect it when you have moved the Library over to the other Enclosure
This has worked for me pretty smoothly for a long while, but I have found over the years that one can not assume all people work in the same manner! :-)

i checked the online help on how to make a color tint.
but the solution tells me if i don't have the "t-slider" make sure the color is checked
as global then go to show options
but this is not helping. i still don't see what i need to make a tint.
i really wish the way to make this work was more like indesign.

You need to make the color a swatch first. Then double click the swatch and check the Global box.

Color spaces are a little complicated.
Best practice is to pick one and use it for every application.
Adobe (1998) has been regarded as a great standard for years.
If you are using s-RGB you and going into CMYK, you will probably always get color shift.
Bruce Fraser used to refer to s-RGB as "Satan RGB."
It has a very small color gamut and almost everyone has it by default because it is the Windows standard and unless the system was calibrated and planned, s-RGB will be everywhere (as intended).
Unfortunate that printing uses CMYK and the web uses the RGB.
Newer printing technology can use RGB but the s-RGB will limit your color spectrum.
Also you can set the conversion settings to preserve either the numerical values or perceptual intent...or turn them off in your preference panel.
If your final work product is in RGB (anything viewed on a monitor), I suggest that you work in RGB and not CMYK and use the Adobe 1998 standard on every machine and every program. (You can set your info palette to see both sets of numbers)
Everyone has their own opinion, the key is to be consistent.
And dont let all the tech-speak freak you... there is lots of information out there but you are in charge how you use it.
