Colored background for text

this is really stupid but I am drawing a blank. How do I make the text background a color or white? I can change the color of the text but the background is always black.

I made a color for v1 but when I try to superimpose the text layer nothing happens. still black.

Color background for titles

I'm using PrE10. when i work on titles the background defaults to a black background. How can I change it to white or some other color?

The black background that you see for a title file is not the color black. The black represents transparency so that when you have the title on Video track 2 and your image on Video track 1, you see the title overlay on the image.
A few scenario for you to check out
1. Create a color matte for Video 1 and directly above it place your title. For Color Matte, please see Project Media, New Item, Color Matte.
2. Create a title in the Titler and while there go to the Title Menu/Image/Add Image. That will put the image on the top, hidding the text. So, right click the monitor, select Arrange, followed by Send Back.

Boris - background for text

Hello! I have Tom Wolsky's DVD and book - read and watched once each, but somehow missed how to do this, if I can.
Using Boris for text - how can I add a rectangle of color behind the text, to help it stand out from the video behind it? Can I adjust the opacity so the video shows through?
I hope I've explained this well enough.
Even if you can tell me where to read in the book "Final Cut Express 4" Editing Workshop - or where to watch on the FCE Made Easy DVD - that would help!
Or do I need to use LiveType for this?

Place your background video on V1.
Place your Text on V3.
Get a color background from the Generator button (lower right hand corner of the Viewer, marked with an "A") select Matte>Color and place that color on V2.
Double click the color clip you just placed on V2 and in the viewer click on the motion tab.
Open the Crop pane by clicking on the little triangle next to the word "Crop". Adjust the sliders to get the rectangle cropped the way you want it. You can also adjust the softness of the edge of the rectangle.
Open the Opacity pane by clicking on the little triangle next to the word "Opacity".
Adjust the opacity to your liking.
You will probably have to render the effect to see it play properly.

Color picker for text in Mac OS X Lion Mail is not working properly

I found a bug in Mac OSX Lion Mail program. I tried it on 3 different machines and they all act the same. When you compose a new message in mail and you change the color of the text to another color than black with the color picker, the text changes to the apropriate color. If you try to select that same text and try to revert it's color to black again using the color picker, the text bocomes blank and you cant see it anymore.
Does anybody have the same problem as I do?

Same problem here - it's a bug which hopefully will be fixed in a future update.
In the meantime, here is a workaround:
Highlight the text you want to change
Click on the color icon
Click on "Show Colors"
Run the "Back slider" a little up, and then all the way back again.
This should make the text black again - it's a little cumbersome to say the least, but it does the trick

Where is Background Color Property for Text Field Prompt in Developer 6i

I update all my works from developer 2000 to developer 6i (forms 6.0). All my screens are now irregular becoz, the text field prompt background color property is not present in forms 6i. Can you help me how to solve this prob.
(one more solution i found is, can do the prompt as separate canvas object, but is there any way to set the background color for prompt entered in text field.)

I think there is a bug in the first release of Forms 6i,
where the prompts got the same backgroung color of the
related item (in fact, it must have no back color,
because it has no "background color" property).
Try applying a patch over it.

RoboHelp HTML 9 - CHM file Different color shown for text of dropdown hotspot.

Dear all,
In Design view of Robohelp, I see all dropdown hotspot text are green. But when I preview or genereate the topic to CHM file, all dropdown hotspot text are blue like color of hyperlinks.
I don't understand why it behaves like that. Please tell me.

I recreated your index keywords and have identified what is going on.
When you click on CTV, Accept it opens the correct topic.
Now notice what happens when you start typing app after CTV. The highlighting goes to Enable so when you press Enter, Rh opens the highlighted topic. The highlighting will go to the last sub keyword. Try adding Zulu.
I will see if I can create something similar tomorrow using another authoring tool.

In iMovie 11 can you make a custom color background for text other than the stock backgrounds?
If so how?

imagine for a second a 'background' as a 'photo' or graphic:
use any 'Paint'-app (Pixelmator, Photoshop/elements, abuse Keynote/iWork ... ), or download any .jpg you'd like to see as 'background' from the web.
drag into Project, drag Title over it.

Has anyone figured out how to add background color to PDF files using Automator? I need an easy, reliable way to establish a specific color background for an evolving series of PDF files (text and images) that are eventually to go online.

Adding color backgroun to text created

Is there a way to add a color background to text I created. I am able to add text and then able to add a color background separately, but when I add it , I can't see the text?

Hi Susan,
First of all put your coloured background in the Timeline on Video Track 1.
When you have written your title in the "Controls" section of the Viewer, click the "Video" tab next to it.
Grab the middle of the Viewer screen and drag it across to the Canvas.
As you do this a number of rectangles (giving you choices) will appear in the Canvas.
Drop your title into the "Superimpose" rectangle at the bottom.
Your title should appear in Vieo Track 2 in the timeline - immediately above your coloured background and should work perfectly.

View Options: Can't Pick Colored Background?

Colored backgrounds for folders like Applications, etc. carried over after upgradingto 10.7, but when I clicl on Arrange by Name to put things back in order the background color disappears and is replaced with white. When I click on Show View Options to choose a colored background, the options are greyed out and choosing a color isn't possible. Any way to rectify this?

Itunes crashed today & automatically installed 11.0.2 when I reopened it Chris.
There are definitely no "size" or "kind" boxes under View>Options, see screengrab. I didn't delete any playlists, they disappeared!

Flash CS4 - Can I change the colors of the background or text that shows up in the Layers section?

I am stuggling here! I am colorblind. I need to change either the color of the background or the color of the text on the layers section on the Timeline. I simply cannot read/see what is currently showing. It is a very light blue background with white text and white dots for seeing, locking, or setting the outline color. I need to either change the text color and dots to black so I can see them, or try to change the background color to a dark blue so I can read the white text. Changing the text color would really be my preference. How do I do this? Please help. Adobe hasn't been very concerned about colorblindness when developing these products. I can barely make out all the light grey/grey/dark grey/grey stuff. Now this!

For Windows you can adjust your Theme (or download a new one and use that). This will alter the color of each layer, for example if you use Classic then it will use a very dark blue for layers that will provide higher contrast. I've downloaded other custom themes in the past that use a very dark grey for example.
(By the way, for Mac users go to Appearance in System Prefs and choose a different Highlight color - you can choose a default or custom one. That color is used for the layer color).

How do I change the colors of Ring texts individually so when it pulls down, I can see each test with different background color?

I have been using LabView for a almost 18 months now. There was no problem which I could not solve with help of all resources available. But, this is one where I am scratching my head since long time now.
I would like to change colors of each individual text in Ring control programmatically. I have attached example VI. In this VI, I change background color of ring text, but it changes only the current (active) background color, so when you pull down the whole menu, it shows same default color for all the text background (not even the color I asked it to). Is there anyway I can define individually as to what color should be related to each text in ring menu?

Well not with a ring and not programatically.
The best I can suggest is a picture ring, see below.

How to create transparent text on a solid color background?

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color backround, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the backround layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/transparent-text-area/. Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the backround color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7. Thank you all for the suggestions, especially 99jon. 99jon's walktrhough is helpful, but I was hoping to find a workaround that would allow keeping transparent text that goes all the way through all other layers to transparent background as a text level, but once I flatten the image, I'd lose the text layer, so I cannot make any changes to it (like slightly change the font, size, style, face, etc). Let me clarify a bit what I'm trying to do to see if there is an even better option.
Say, I need to have a 300x300 pixel image that (forget about photos) consists of a solid-color circle (circle can be white, black, red, blue, or any solid color, or gradient, does not matter) on a transparent background, and inside of this circle I'd like to cut out a word (say, the word "TEST" with no bevels or other decoration, just flat font) all the way to the transparent background. I just need a circle with text cut out and showing around the circle and through the word "TEST". So if a circle is white and I place the image on a blue background, the word "TEST" would be in blue (so would be the area around the circle).
Is there a way to set it up to allow changing the color of the circle (say, from white to black, or blue, or red) and keep smooth edges of the text (and circle) blending with the background (i.e. avoid jagged edges) without redoing every color variation from scratch? Like, getting some master file which would define size and position of the elements,a s well as font, etc, and from this master file, use simple adjustments to change the color.
Ideally (in my dream world), there would be an option for the text element to be of transparent color that would go through all layers below it. But there must be a not too complex way to do this, right?

Transfer footage iMovie 08 to iMovie 06 HD & change outline color for text

I have a completed video that is basically all stills. I would like to transfer the stills in their current sequence and if possible with their current crop styles ie Ken Burns without having to start ALL over. Is this possible? Just downloaded 06 HD because I wanted more editing options that iMovie 08 seems to be lacking.
Also, how do you change the outline color for text in titles? At one point it switched from black to white but I have no idea how it happened... now its back to black.
Lastly, are we only allowed to place music exactly at the head of a clip or is there a setting I am unable to find that unlocks that "snap to" function?

Thanks....I was thinking that was probably it. Will be a little time consuming, but I'll feel better in the end knowing a vacation and bunch of summer stuff is back on tape for archiving.
