Coloring in HD for SD final Output..??

I am just hoping for some advice on doing some work in color on a project that was shot in 23.98 and edited at 1080P 23.98. (RED)
My goal is to be able to have an HD Master, but the deliverable is a Digi Beta tape which is obviously SD. Which is easy to change the size once back in FCP, but what about the frame rate? Now that I would be changing that to 29.97, is it best to,
- change that in FCP before sending to color
- change that in color upon render
- change that in FCP after rendering 23.98 in Color
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jesse

I would do everything at the native frame size and rate (1080p 23.98) all the way through. Make an HD master sequence. Then use your Kona to output to the DigiBeta.

  • Fast Color Corrector not rendering in final output

I have a stack of effects setup in order to create a wipe-on glow effect.  I'm using Fast Color Corrector, Gausian Blur and Crop.  When I playback the project in Premiere Pro CC, it plays back correctly (at least, the way I'd like it to look).  However, Adobe Media Encoder is not encoding the Fast Color Corrector, which effectively makes my wipe-on look lame.  Both Gaussian Blur and Crop seem to be working, here is the correct (Premiere) and incorrect (AME) screenshot.  Notice the "OD" in the word "Good".
All effects and all video tracks are enabled.  Anyone know anything about this and how I might force AME to take notice and render all of the effects?
By the way, I just tried "Export" instead of using Adobe Media Encoder.  It works.  Why doesn't it render correctly in AME?

My best guess is that AME isn't using GPU acceleration, which means things get rendered differently.
Either go Direct, or check Maximum Render Quality.

  • Color management settings for the best print output

Color Management while Printing has been one of the challenging areas which has been discussed a lot over user forums and has been a painful area in terms of clear understanding while taking print outputs.
Here is an easy-to-understand KB (Knowledge Base) article ‘Color management settings for the best print output’ to help you get the best from your printers using PSE and bridge that knowledge gap.
This article explains color management in Photoshop Elements, how to get better prints, and addresses some of the following issues like horizontal/vertical streaks in print output, too dark or too light print output, ICC profile problems and Color differences between prints from PSE and other applications.
    Thanks,
    Garry

    Thanks Noel.
Yes have shared in PSE forum as well. But I usually drop such posts on PS General forum so community moderators as well as our power users who mostly use both PS or PSE or are aware about can communicate to their students, audiences etc.
The idea is to reach out the message to as many as folks via relevant forums. Most of my otehr posts have found mentioned only on PSE forum.
Thanks for the feedback Nice to hear such a great feedback within 5 mts of publishing

  • Hey Guys stupid question for final output.

Heres a dumb one guys. Ive been working long enough with this program and ought to know but Im having a terrible time. Let me start from the end.
Final output is 1280 X 720 QT movie inserted into keynote 08' in a new imac 20"
Knowing that computer displays, display a square pixel I start there.. here are my project settings.
    preset: custom
    1280 x 720
    8 bit
    ntscd1/dv
    field order none
    dither -unchecked
field rendering and motion blur off
All looks good here... then off to FCS2 timeline.. here are those settings
    1280x720 (hdtv 720p 16x9 pulldown
    pixel aspect ratio: square
    field dom: none
    Compressor: dv/dvcpro ntsc
So heres the deal...my video all looks great once on the imac, My GFX however are blown out and somewhat blurry...... I have messed and messed with this thing. My original thinking was to stick with broadcast specs and all would be fine, Now ive starred at this for so long Im losing focus.
So heres the big question.. knowing we going to a computer display what settings would you guys use??
    Thanks

I don't know a huge amount about NTSC, but you seem to be mixing square and non-square pixels here from what you have written.
If you drag a rendered clip into a new timeline do you not get the dialogue box asking if you want to make the sequence into the same format as the clip?
    Check render settings too

  • Speedgrade CS6 won't apply my Look in the final output

So I have this problem where I try to output a quick color graded version of my source footage, but the final output shows no difference.  In other words, I import DSLR footage, make all the necessary adjustments (in this case I just applied a look that I saved previously) in SG then render it out as a ProRes 422.  The ProRes version looks the same as my source (DSLR) footage (minus a few megabytes) and doesn't look as if my saved look was ever applied.
My Output settings are as follows: (NOTE: I have changed all of my output settings trying to solve this problem and, no dice.  So I can only assume that it's not a problem with my output settings)
    Output:
Format & Options = Apple ProRes 422.  Automatic color calibration = Unchecked.  Write ALE file to output path = Unchecked.  Render annotations = Checked
Use the same burn-in as playback, No calibration lookup table, Time code source = Source
    Framing:
Full Image (No Proxy).  1:1 (square).  1080p
    Render
    Offline Quality (fast).
    My system specs are:
    Mac Pro OS X 10.10.1 (Late 2013)
    3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5
    16 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC
    AMD FirePro D500 3072 MB
    Hop I provided enough info.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

With your theory in mind of it being a permissions problem, I went ahead and moved my Looks from an external drive to my computer.  Still no dice.  Although, do you believe that it might need to be in a particular place on my computer?  Like say, a SpeedGrade folder inside and Adobe folder inside my library folder?  I don't see why that would matter.  I found a rather time consuming fix.  If I open the Look in After Effects, I can apply it to the video clip but that's just a little convoluted.
I'll keep searching for a solution and post any updates.  Thanks for your help thus far!

  • Color fidelity between slides and FCE output

Until the recent past, I have been scanning 35mm slides using a Cannon Canoscan 9900F coupled with Photoshop Elements v 2.0 into FCE v 3.0 on a Mac G-4 with OS 10.4.3. The color fidelity between the slides and final output was reasonably good. Within the past week I have upgraded system software to OS 10.4.8; upgraded Photoshop Elements to v 4.0 and FCE to v3.5.1. Now when I scan slides, the resulting images (both on the desktop and as printed with an Epson stylus 2200) are dark as if the slides were greatly underexposed. The Photoshop Elements correcting or enhancing tools do not solve the problem. I don’t think this is a monitor calibration issue but would welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Jack A

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the relation with FCE ? It's seem that is more a problem with MAC OS X itself or photoshop or your scanner than FCE.

  • Final output of Final Cut Express HD 3.5 is blurry and out of focus.

Using clear/sharp '.mov' files as clips. Doing simple editing, nothing fancy. When I finally output the project using 'Export/Using QuickTime Conversion,' the final is blurry and out of focus. I've tried every compression type (H264, Animation, etc.). Same problem. Anyone know why this is happening?
Although the specs for my computer are well within the Final Cut Express guidelines (I've even upgraded my graphics card to a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 MB), I'm still thinking that perhaps the G4 I'm using doesn't have enough juice to run the FCE software. By the way, I don't have any other programs active when using FCE. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for your response.
Here's what I'm (trying) to do:
I'm creating short 5 minute tutorial movies that will be distributed as QuickTime movies (burned to disk) for short run distribution (college).
Here's the process: the movie itself is a recording of monitor screen actions recorded (audio and video) using Snapz Pro movie mode. The recorded size is 800 x 600. There might be 5 such 1 or 2 minute clips. The quality is excellent. I bring them in to FCE, drop all the clips on the same track, and add simple transitions. That's it.
Now I need to somehow get a final QuickTime movie, with close to the same quality I had in the clips.
So... I take the FCE file, output it using 'Export>QuickTime Conversion,' using the same size I originally recorded in, 800 x 600. Tried every codec available. Every time, the end result is a very blurred version of the original Snapz Pro recordings.
I've even tried outputting the FCE file as 'Export>QuickTime Move' (not using the conversion method). Opened that up in QuickTime Pro with the same result: blurred and out of focus.
I'm viewing the exported file in QuickTime Pro, with the 'Movie Properties' setting of 'High Quality.'
Any clue? This is driving me crazy. But I'm determined to get this right.

  • Color assistance needed for commercial printer

    Hi there,
We're a board game publisher about to send our first game to an overseas manufacturer. The game is composed of hundreds of cards with detailed, fantasy art, and we're excited to get this game finally out the door.
We sent the raw, packaged indesign (CS6) files to a local printer to see how everything would look before we have 3,000 copies of the game made overseas. The local printer used the same process that the overseas printer will, a 4 color high-end printer that is certainly impressive to people new to the industry such as ourselves. The sample cards they printed came out with fantastic clarity, but the colors are very muted. It's not a subtle change in color like I might see when toggling RGB to CMYK in photoshop for example. Instead, the colors on the print out look like someone slid a color saturation slider on the entire indesign file down by 25%.
When we print on our low-end inket at the office, the resolution is obviously poor, but the colors look great and match our calibrated monitors. When we export to PDF using "Press Quality", everything looks perfect on multiple computers here and at other locations away from the office. It's only the most important step, printing on a full-blown, commercial printer that the colors look so muted.
Here are some crude photos I took on my phone to help show the difference.
These photos have our office, inkjet printer cards are more colorful and the high-quality commercial printer cards are muted (sorry for the strange alignment, this forum is rotating the images for some reason):
    http://www.watchtowergames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/photo-1.jpg
    http://www.watchtowergames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/photo-2.jpg
    http://www.watchtowergames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/photo-3.jpg
    Different cards here:
    http://www.watchtowergames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/photo-1b.jpg
    http://www.watchtowergames.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/photo-2b.jpg
I've researched about swatches and color profiles, but all my experimenting hasn't produced any difference on my end. Therein lies the challenge, as I cannot duplicate the problem here at the office. The colors look great in indesign, great in exported PDFs, and great on our inkjet printed cards. Only when we pay a decent amount of money to the local commercial printer do we get these muted colors in our samples. And the local printer says their setup is exactly the same as our overseas manufacturer, which is terrifying. We've spent 17 months agonizing over all the details of the look of our cards for aesthetic purposes and game play so that players can quickly identify each card type by color. These muted colors will really mess the game up. We're pulling our hair out over here.
The local printer has offered to provide a color correction service for us, but at $100 an hour, that sounds like a lot for a new business like ours.
Is there some setting inside indesign that we are missing? Is there a way to replicate the muted colors on our end so we can at least troubleshoot this? Is there a method to turn up the saturation, if you will, for 4 color printing? Should we bite the bullet and pay the local printer an arm and a leg to color correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Tom
P.S. Also, if it helps, when we had the local printer digitally print a sample, everything looked far too dark, which they said was a side effect of the digital print process.

    Thanks for the response, Rob.
We talked with a local printer as they assured us that their setup was the same standard that the overseas printer uses. They said the sample sheet they printed for us had marks on the edges. Supposedly, once we had everything matching up right with the local printer, we could mail the printed sheet here to the overseas printer and their system would put in the sheet with its colors on the edges and know exactly what we wanted. Heck, if I know. I'm picking this up as I go along.
By your post, it sounds like we have introduced an unnecessary variable (this local printer) and should just cut them out of the process and deal directly with the overseas printer. The challenge is that the next step is for them to make a sample game for us, and at $1,000 a sample game, it's going to get crazy expensive if we have to go through several samples. I'll see if they can just run a single sheet of cards as a test run like you suggested.
If the overseas printer sheet or sample game comes up with the muted color problem still, what steps happen next. I ask because I'm used to solving the issues and don't understand how to solve this one if it comes up again. Do I just tell them to "make it more vibrant" and they work their magic as professional printers, or is the expectation that I'm to go through each of our many illustrations and graphic designs and over-saturate them myself? I suppose we can cross that bridge when we get to it. It's just hard to work for 18 months on this game getting everything just right and now see this color issue that is out my hands that I cannot solve.
For color space, I think I understand you. Most of our art is RGB.Our Proof Setup is "CMYK - US SWOP v2".
    Thanks again for the information.

  • Is the canvas something like "the final output"? Or is that the viewer?

I am making a video of my HD footage i shot with my Full HD Camcorder (Sony HDR-SR12).
When i go through te timeline and play something, it shows fully in my viewer, but in the canvas i get only a selection of the full image (it seems that it is zoomed in)... So, my question is, do i have to "make the video smaller" by choosing image+wireframe in the canvas? Because i am afraid that when i output on to a DVD, i will also get the zoomed-in video? Or is the Viewer the "final output?"... I am getting crazy, because i can't let two or more clips play after eachother in the Viewer, right?
Also, what is the best way to output my full HD footage? (without loosing to much quality) Just click "Export -> Quicktime Movie"? Wil quicktime not lose the HD? Thanx...

The canvas always displays the final result and quality of your editing in the current sequence in the timeline; the viewer is just a way to monitor single clips (not the composition of clips as in the canvas) and displays the quality of the clip usually before you edit it into the timeline.
This is important, because if (for example) your sequence (in the timeline) is a standard DV while your captured clips are HD, when you look at a clip in the viewer opened from the browser, you watch it at +HD quality+, when you drag (edit) the same clip into the timeline it is down-converted to the +DV lower quality+; and this is what you see in the canvas. Instead if you open a clip from the timeline (not browser) in the viewer, you see the exact same quality as in the canvas, but only for that single clip. So the best way is to always check quality in the canvas, since it shows the result of all your editing, conversions, and composition, as it will show up in the exported movie.
Now, to really verify the result in the canvas you must also make sure to:
    - use Fit to Window (from the small zoom button on top of the canvas window) when you want see the full frame and its composition, but not the final quality
    - instead use 100% (same button) to see the final quality for HD
    - or even better connect the firewire output to an HDTV through a HDV deck (or camcorder) for HD, or to a standard TV through a D/A converter (or camcorder) for standard DV. The advantage of this solution is that you see the final result on the final output device while editing, without having to burn DVDs to check it (and this is almost mandatory when you import images and want to have control over interlacing artifacts).
When you export to iDVD you always use Export/Quicktime Movie even if you burn the DVD on different Mac; if the burner is on the same Mac you can uncheck the Make Movie Self-Contained option, so the file will be smaller and the export faster; otherwise you leave that option checked, and the file will contain all video and audio media necessary for burning (but the file much larger, and export much longer).
One more note: the Image+Wireframe option in the 2nd small button on top of the canvas (or also viewer) window allows you to apply changes to the frame size and position directly in the canvas without using the Basic Motion control of the viewer; in any case, whatever change you apply and you see in the canvas will be reflected also to the exported movie.
My guess in your case is that you are using a wrong (standard DV) setup for your sequence even if you captured HD, and that probably you zoomed in too much so that both the canvas and the exported movie show a small portion of the original frame.
I hope this helps a bit

  • HD to SD final output question

    Hello Forum,
I have just completed Jeff Bellune’s excellent HD to SD tutorial called “hd2sd - High Quality Scaling From HD to SD”. For weeks I have been trying in vain to downscale my 1920 x1080i AVI-8bit YUV HD footage for output to PAL DVD without much luck, resulting in terrible output quality, but for anyone experiencing the same problem I would like to let you know that the quality of the conversion with Jeff's method is absolutely amazing. http://bellunevideo.com/tutlist.php Thanks for the post Jeff you are a star!
But I have one small problem. In the final process when using VirtualDub to open your AviSynth script file and then saving it out to a Lagarith AVI file.
The process works as described with great results however the final output file is exported at an output size of 720x576 - 1.250 (5:4) aspect ratio. (Size data extracted from GSpot) The problem is when I import this into Encore the footage does not fill the whole screen.
My to the forum question is does anyone know how I can change the output file size in VirtualDub to a (16.9) aspect ratio so that when imported into Encore the footage takes up the whole screen in a (16:9) widescreen format.
Can VirtualDub be used to do this and if so does anyone know the exact settings to be used?
Any assistance with this will help me greatly.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rex.

    Thank you Jeff
You are a brilliant person, thank you very much as you solved my long standing and draining problem in one answer!
The output result is second to none as a matter of fact I can’t even tell the difference from the original footage!
Everything is fine now but while the Big man himself is about I wonder if you could possibly answer these 3 questions?
    1) I am using Premiere CS5.5, Should I have used the Maximum render quality setting when exporting my MPEG2 file from premiere (this wasn’t mentioned in the CS4 tutorial)
2).My original source footage used in my test project is 1920 X1080i (1.0) 50Hz Pal - and I have exported 3 versions, one Lower field first, one upper field first and one Progressive no fields. Using the Interpret Footage techniques from your advice I created 3 separate Encore projects in each field setting the thing is I can’t tell the difference between them in my test DVDs. (Q. which field setting do you recommend me use for my final project output to Pal DVD (Note Encore Pal Project settings make reference to Lower field first).
    2) Could I re-import the exported VirtualDub avi file back into premiere. Then edit my project adding effects and titles and when the project is complete export the finished project into Encore either by uncompressed AVI or MPEG2-DVD?. If this is possible will I lose much quality on export? And would you know how I could Interpret the Footage to PAL Widescreen (1.4587).in premiere? (I ask this as it would be much easier to edit with these smaller files as my original files are very resource consuming)
Again I would be most grateful if you have some advice on these questions as I am a newbie to HD editing but embracing the challenge.
    Thanks again.
    Rex.

  • Export quality poor on final output

I'm working on a macbook pro using iLife09.
I've edited everything in FCE 4 and the final output after burning in idvd has 3 movies on it and one of them, about halfway through, continues to have a very pixelated section lasting about 1 minute. it plays choppy and blurry.
in fce 4 I exported>quicktime movie. I've tried making it self contained and not self contained. Same results on both. I use verbatim dvd-R, burn at slowest possible speed, and at professional quality. I've repaired disk permissions, deleted idvd prefs, and saved as "disk image." the results are the same on the disk image. I think this means it is an encoding/burning problem.
All my audio has been converted to .aiff and is 44.1 KHz.
is this an export issue within FCE 4? what other options should I try?

thanks for your quick response. I've been working on it ever since.
the exported QT movie does not display the pixellation.
I switched it to Best Performance as opposed to Professional Quality, but this didn't solve the problem. It seems that the content was too close to filling up the capacity of the dvd. once I shortened the content, the problem went away.
thanks for the suggestions, this gives me other options when other things go wrong in the future.

  • Data Mismatch in the final output

    Hi,
I am using the eclipse version downloaded from here
    http://www.businessobjects.com/campaigns/forms/downloads/crystal/eclipse/datasave.asp
In the final output, data seems to be corrupted.
    Example
    Column A
    3500
    9852
    7533
    Sum 35.4
The sum value reflects the right value, where as the value in column A  is displayed from a different page.
In short the Column A values are randomly swapped between pages.
I tested the same report with Visual Studio with the same parameters. It works fine.
Can some one please provide me a direction.
    Thanks
    Raman

    For your questions,
    1. I have this problem when previewing report in the crystal report viewer. This is not specific to exporting to a third party format, Previewing and even exporting to PDF results in same incorrect output.
    2. I tried exporting it to RPT format and its resulting in exception, See below the exception stack.

  • Keep Time Codes in Final Output?

For various reasons I won't bore you with here, I want to show the time codes in my final output. I have them (audio and video) on the canvas, and it's exactly what I need, but I can't seem to permanently keep them with my video. They disappear when I play or export the video. Does anyone know of a way to keep the time codes on the screen somehow for final output? I'm using FCP 6.02 and my video is HD1080i50 if that helps.
    -JOEL

Oops....never mind. I found the answer to this in another post on this forum. Missed it the first time I searched.
    Sorry.......

  • When I apply a plug in compressor on the final output track I get a click

1/I am applying a compressor on to a particular point of the track (in the final output track) and naturally all tracks go louder.. however my problem is at that point where the compressor switches on from its previous bypass status, I get a click. this is a problem I always have when suddenly I introduce a 'serious' plug into the final mix... your suggestions will be very welcome
2/ While my output never goes over 2.0 below the threshold 0.0 some times the final mix gives me much unwanted buzz in the speakers which must come from individual samples - probably samples that cant take that sort of compression- is there a standard way or a more conventional approach to compress the final mix so you get the loudness of everything still without buzz... a particular logic setting that seems to work for many cases perhaps with instrumental and orchestral work?
3/ would you compress track by track first and go through everything in this laborious way or just experiment on the final output track is equally the same?
I ll be grateful for any valuable advise..

Gosh, that was quick! Or perhaps you were just way ahead of me…
1 • This may not be the answer if it really is happening with many plug-ins, but you can get a click when a compressor cuts in if the attack setting is too short. And if the mix is getting louder at that point, you might consider turning down the gain on the compressor.
2 • If you're compressing a whole mix, then individual samples are not going to be "unable to take it". Check for the buzz with the speaker volume turned right down, or in headphones, or examine the final stereo mix audio file to look for clipping… because it may just be the speakers. If it's still definitely there, you need to find the source of the distortion, & the best way is to eliminate possible sources one at a time. Compression wouldn't be my preferred suspect, unless you have the gain cranked up. Which in light of the above, perhaps you have!
3 • Compression on the whole mix should be as effective as on individual tracks, but this is assuming you have already taken care to ensure your tracks are in a fit state. Compression introduces noise (can't be helped!), & in a mix it may be hard to hear just where that pesky noise is coming from… whereas if you check out individual tracks you may suddenly realise that by compressing that guitar you have made the amp hum REALLY LOUD when the guitar isn't actually playing. Time for a Noise Gate on that track!

  • Hide the group by item in the final output

    Hi All,
    I am using BIP version:10.1.3.4.1
I have BIP publisher which is a group by report
    Group1
    item dept
    it1 d1
    it2 d2
Can I not to display the Group1 field in the final output(but the field should be present in the .rtf file).
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,

    Sorry for the confusion.
I have generating the report on the basis of Group1 field.
in the RTF file I have code for
    Group1 <?VENDOR?>
    F <?for-each:current-group()?>
I want to keep the Group1 the rtf file but do want not want to display in the output file.
Is there any setting for the item where we can hide the item from the final output but the item will be present in the rtf file.
    Thanks & Regards
