Colormunki calibrates my MacBook Pro monitor too bright.

I'm trying to calibrate my 15" MacBook Pro's monitor using a Colormunki Photo.   I've different setting but the results are always way too bright.   Anyone have and success or tips?

Turn off Zoom option in System prefs/ universal access/ seeing tab. Or press cmdopt (+/-) to adjust.
I'd turn it off just in case you hit it again.

This what I have been trying......  Maybe my eyes are screwed up or don't understand the process....
What I have been trying to do is squint and make the apple disappear by moving the sliders around in each step. Is that correct?

  • Calibrate the MacBook Pro Retina display

What spyder and what software would you suggest to calibrate the retina display of the new MacBook Pros?
    Thanks a lot!
    M.

I use the Spyder4Pro at home and one at my office - the puck itself is exactly the same as the Elite, but the software is slightly more limited (Elite has more features for multi-display averaging, color, backlight uniformity & user-configurable whitepoint values. Can also be upgraded to Elite software at a cost, if necessary). It's a good fit as long as you're not needing to constantly calibrate multiple displays. Perfect for home and small biz situations with a few computers/monitors max, and contains all standard gamma/whitepoints out the box.
As far as the MBPR goes, I gotta be honest here - I wasn't particularly pleased with the Spyder4's results for the Retina in my case. The rest of my displays look fine across the board, but the Retina (even after successive recalibration under different light conditions/viewing angles) looks just too yellow (with slight green cast) under the standard 2.2 Gamma/D65K whitepoint settings. I ended up simply using the default color profile (Color LCD) it shipped with, and while it's slightly on the cool side (blue cast), the whites/greys/blacks are much closer to that of my grey card when compared to the Spyder's yellowish profiles. Printed images (also profiled) are a closer match to default profile as well, though warmer just not to the extreme the Spyder4 was pushing. Again, this is simply my experience with it, I'd still recommend it as a calibration solution for most things, but I'd pass if you're going to use it to only calibrate the Retina. YMMV.
Hope this helps, even if just a little.

  • MacBook Pro 13" screen brightness

I just bought a 13" MacBook Pro and find the screen brightness and contrast is much less than expected. It basically has to be turned up full on AC to be acceptable, which is very unexpected, since I am typing on a 16 month old MacBook Air now that is about the same at 80% of screen brightness. The contrast is less pronounced on the new machine, too, and the notion of 60% more color saturation seems faulty. I am going to return it and see if the Apple Store thinks this is normal or a faulty screen. Am I being unreasonable to think the new MBP screen should be at least equivalent to the original Air screen?
    Message was edited by: MacBook

Yes, I agree that there is something different about the two displays. I conducted my own side-by-side comparison -- in the same room lighting, and also switching the places of the two machines -- and found at any given setting, the 13" MacBook Pro was darker than the MacBook Air. Furthermore, when I first started the machine, the MBP's keyboard backlighting would not go off, no matter the lighting. Then, when I went to make these comparisons, the MBP's keyboard backlighting would not come on.
This linked picture is a composite from two pictures taken in succession in the same lighting and angles, just as they came out of the camera, showing the relative brightness of the two. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2547/3844348963e76728bce2o.png
So, I packed up the machine for a trip to the Apple Store and either an exchange or a return.

  • Detect displays seems to have quit working? The secondary monitor is bleeding into the MacBook Pro monitor. How can I fix this?

I am using a MacBook Pro 2009, Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6.8). All of a sudden last night after a long day of work, my monitor resolution changed without warning and the secondary monitor display started bleeding into my laptop monitor. When I go to detect displays, it doesn't fix the problem. It looks like I need to switch to a larger display setting and the largest setting has disappeared.(The display seems to default to this setting where my screen bleeds into the laptop monitor.) When this started happening last night, I immediately shutdown and restarted to see if this would fix the problem. So far, it's still not looking too good.
I also tried shutting the laptop and using the external monitor only. When I do this, the monitor freaks out and keeps flashing on long enough for me to input a password. Then it flashes off, the computer and dipslay goes to sleep and I have to re enter my password to exit sleep mode and the process starts all over again.
Here are screen shots of the two monitors side by side:
    http://danisco.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/monitors.png
(Notice the weird overlap - it's not keeping me from working, but it's super annoying!)
Any ideas on how I can try and fix this? OR do I need to get help from Apple directly. Thank you in advance for any suggestions on this!

Okay - this issue seems to have resolved on it's own. Yea!
I did find a thread that suggested resetting the PRAM/NVRAM so I did this, restored the external monitor to factory settings and went into Disk Utility and repaired disk permissions and verified disk permissions.
Here is a link to reset the PRAM/NVRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
These things may have helped resolve this issue. I can't tell what worked because it was hours after I did all these things that my monitor and computer decided they liked each other again. If you have a similar issue, maybe these steps will help you resolve your problem too.
    Hope this is helpful!

  • Monitor too bright

    Hi,
    I'm re-purposing a quad core 2.8Ghz Mac Pro with Mac OS 10.6.8.
I'm having a problem in that the monitor/screen image is too bright, even with the monitor controls set to minimum.
When I use the monito calibrator in System Prefs, the black/grey/white oval graphic is very very very light and washed out and there's no way I can adjust the monitor to get the black bit black.
This monitors (2 of them) worked perfectly on the G5 it came from, black was black white was paper-white and it worked well for photo editing - printed results were a good match with the image on the monitors. However when I plug them into this MacPro they're virtually unusable.
Window borders, furniture (buttons, tabs etc) and the desktop (Mac OS bits???) seem fine - it's just the inner part of windows (the bit controlled by the application rather than the Mac OS???) that is too biright and wahsed out.
It's as if the graphics card is misbehaving. Is there a way to "reset" the graphics card?
Note; I'm not sure if this actually has anything to do with it - I noticed this happening when I installed Illustrator CS2 (yes, I know, its old) and the installed asked permission to install Rosetta. It may be coicidence that I just noticed it at this stage or it may be the cause. How do I temorarily remove or disable Rosetta?
Both monitors can't suddently have become faulty, so I'm doscounting an issue with the monitors.
Mac OS 10.6.8, Quad 2.8 GHz Mac Pro
Monitors are connected with digital cables direct to the digi ports (no VGA converters)
    Many thanks,
    G.

Many thanks to both responders. Various points for both:
The graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT.
The OS is a fresh install on a newly reformatted main drive. The old OS is on the secon'd drive but has been moved into a separate folder called "Old System".
Apps are all new/clean installs from original disks, then updates applied.
It seems implausible that the drive partitioning system is affecting the video output, is this likely to be the problem?
I know CS2 is old, but I don't have a choice and CS2 was running OK on the PPC Mac and these 2 monitors.
The problem is always present whether I have CS components running or not. Quark 8 is too bright, as is Preview and all other apps.
Does the graphics card have a non-volatile memory for settings? What if it has previously been config'd badly; can it be reset?
Can I uninstall Rosetta to see if this is the issue?
    Thnaks again, both.
    G.

  • Macbook pro monitor flickers and audio interference

    Hi there,
I've noticed some strange behavior with my macbook pro lately.  Occasionally the monitor will flicker just once really quickly. It will flicker between black and the regular screen.  Maybe it happens about twice a day.  When I'm surfing, I noticed some interference with the music that is playing in Itunes.  For example, if I click on a link in Google Chrome, the audio signal from whatever is playing in Itunes will get cut for a split second. It's almost like the processor is working too hard to manage both surfing in Chrome and the music playing in Itunes, which is ridiculous.  When I bought my computer (2008 or 2009 model), I upped the RAM to 4gb. My processor is 2.4 ghz.  I have no idea what's going on.  Is it a hard drive problem? Hope you can help.
    Thanks!

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, it may be worth making an appointment at the genius bar and having them run the test for the NVIDIA problem. Since your replacement logic board still has the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT video chip, it could be starting to happen to your replacement logic board.
I also agree with all of CMCSK's suggestions. Freezing is often associated with hard drive problems. You might also want to run SMART Utility:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a very comprehensive view of the physical health of your hard drive. If you still have the original one from 2007, it's getting pretty long in the tooth and may be approaching the end of its average useful life of 3-5 years. I just recently had to replace my original 2007 Fujitsu drive.
If your drive is headed south, and is also too small, it may be time to upgrade to a larger and faster drive.
The software update probably didn't cause the problems, but it may have exposed problems that were already in existence.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook pro retina, too much ram used & performance problems

i've recently got my macbook pro with retina display, 128 gb i5 intel 2.6Hz processor with 8gb memory, OS Yosemite 10.10.1. problems began to appear the very first moment i've turned it on: at the last step of profile creation (the step where you choose a name and a password of your profile), after i've filled all the fields and clicked some button to proceed, my macbook refused to boot and froze. i've restarted the computer and then it booted just fine. Then new problems appeared: after installing some apps from mac app store, they wouldn't load the first time i open them, - i had to close them and reopen. Once again, this issue wasn't appearing with every app - only with a few ones. I assumed that this was a software issue which will disappear after i update. And well, i didn't observe this problem ever since i've updated the OS. However, i can't be sure that it disappeared.
Also, i monitor RAM consumption using the Memory Clean app. there are like only 3.60 gb free space out of 8. is it ok?
so, what i am asking: should i take my macbook to a store to get it fixed or this problem is just a software and not a hardware issue and i just have to wait?
    Thanks

That is normal.  The Mavericks and Yosemite OSXs use as much RAM as is available in order to increase efficiency.. The parameter that you should monitor is 'pressure', not the amount.  If it is GREEN, you are operating within acceptable limits.  If there is a color change, then more RAM may be required or there may be other issues that may need attention.

Since you have a new MBP, your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have them sort out the issues for you.  Your MBP has a warranty, use it.
    Ciao.

Since you have Parallels installed, a RAM increase would be beneficial.

  • How do I connect my defunct MacBook Pro (monitor's dead, HD works fine) to another computer to transfer files?

I have an old MacBook Pro whose monitor recently died. I took it to the genius bar to get assessed and ended up buying a MacBook Air to replace it. The genius hooked up my external hard drive to the MacBook Pro and did something with the way she started up the MacBook Pro so that I could get my files off of it and onto the external hard drive while it was plugged into another computer so I could see the files there. However, I failed to transfer some files that I really want. Now I'm trying to figure out how to transfer them on my own. And I can't make it work.
Here's what I have to work with:
    - The monitor-less MacBook Pro, which still turns on.
    - The new MacBook Air.
    - The external hard drive, which I connect to the old MacBook Pro via 6-pin FireWire and the new MacBook Air via a thurnderbolt-to-9-pin-FireWire-to-6-pinFireWire converter.
Would love to hear your ideas so I can avoid another genius bar appointment if possible (as they take forever).

    "Target Disk Mode"
FireWire or ThunderBolt, whichever you can make work in common.

  • I currently use a Samsung TV with an Apple TV to duplicate my MacBook Pro monitor.  How can I use this system as a extended (not mirror) monitor?

Does anyone have a solution that allows me to use a Samsung TV connected via the AppleTV to my MacBook Pro as an extended (not mirror) monitor?
    Thanks.

I would recommend upgrading your laptop. Does your current laptop have an HDMI port? If so, connect your Mac to your TV with an HDMI cable. Your TV must be compatible, if it is, you will have to understand that it will be no where near the quality of AirPlay.

  • TV as Macbook Pro monitor video quality

    Hi there,
Hoping for some advice here. I've been using an Apple mini displayport to HDMI cable to use my tv as a monitor for my Macbook Pro when streaming online video. It's hard to describe, but the video doesn't look as smooth on the TV as it does on the MBP itself - almost as though the frame rate is different - (like I say it's to describe). On my TV, the default 'PC input' is VGA rather than the HDMI, so would I notice any difference or improvement if I was to use the VGA input instead?
    Thanks.

Look in System Preferences ➜ Displays ➜ Arrangement.  Is display mirroring turned on?  If so, turn it off as the TV will then only be displaying at the same resolution as your 13" MBP and not utilising the full 1920x1080 resolution that it's capable of.

  • MacBook Pro monitor turns on... when lid lifted

OK, first and foremost before some snarky reply comes - I am posting in Lion, because this problem is unique to Lion - I never had it prior to yesterday.
I start-up or wake my MacBook Pro and the lid is down so the monitor is off - I'm using an external monitor.  However, once the laptop wakes or fully starts-up - if I lift the lid, the built in monitor comes on (it would stay off, pre-Lion).  I like to open my lid for better sound and I think for better ventilation.
Can someone tell my why this is happening, and is there a way to go back to the previous behavior where it would stay powered off?

This is already being debated here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15662934#15662934
So far it would seem it is a bug and so far other than using 'SwitchResX' there is no way to circumnavigate the issue.
Submit a bug report and hopefully apple will listen.
