Colormunki Photo and iMac

Hi all,
I'm entering in the color management world and I have bought Colormunk Photo for trying to get "consistent" colors between what I see on my iMac and my printer.
As the first monitor calibration seems not perfect (I see my screen a little bit dark), is someone aware if I need to use specific setting with Snow Leopard ?
Reading the README file I've found a comment that due to Mac OSX 10.6 having issues handling version 4.0 profiles, X-Rite, Inc. is recommending to only build version 2 profiles for monitors on 10.6.X Snow Leopard. The Preferences are defaulted to version 4 so you will need to change your preferences before creating a monitor profile ...
Thanks
Giancarlo

Thanks for your quick reply .... as the release note is from 2009 I just like to know if the "problem" is still there or has been solved

  • How to share iPad Photos and iMac iPhoto via network?

I've recently added an iPad 2 to my Apple system.  Can anyone tell me how to access my iMac's iPhoto library (OSX 10.7.2) with the iPad 2's Photo's app (or other app) via my Apple Extreme home network?  I'm running iOS 5 on the iPad.
It's clearly possible (and I've done it) to share iPhoto libraries between computers running OSX and iPhoto over my network.  On my iMac, iPhoto Preferences>Sharing opens a window with clear options to enable this service:
However, I have yet to find the app on the iPad 2 which will perform the same function so I can link libraries between my desktop and my iPad.  Is there one, or a third party app for this?
    Thanks

In general the simplest way would be to store the document in iCloud, and use iCloud to access the document from both your iMac and iPad.
But your post above says you're running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.4).  Snow Leopard is now two years old.  I'm not sure it supports iCloud.

  • Anyone using ColorMunki Photo with Retina iMacs?

I've been successfully using X-Rite's ColorMunki Photo to profile my current MacBook Pro display.  I just got a new iMac 27" Retina Display with the upgraded video card.
Tried to profile the iMac, and couldn't get the luminance control in ColorMunki to work properly to adjust the desired (100) display luminance as an early stage of profiling.  So went ahead and went thru the profiling process, came to "Save" and did that, and the display turned posterized!  I finally was able to figure out how to get back to the 'standard" profile and get rid of the custom profile, but not a pleasant experience.
Has anyone used the ColorMunki to successfully profile their iMac Retina display?  Works fine on my MacBook Pro's Retina display, but goes haywire on the iMac.
I will contact X-Rite tomorrow, but would appreciate anything you could pass along on this.
    Rick

ADC doesn't work with all monitors with all profiling solutions, so you just have to try it and see if it works. If not, then you always have to remember to turn that check box so you can set the brightness and other settings ADC would normally do manually.
Check the System Preference under Keyboard (Shortcuts tab), and make sure the keys to increase or decrease brightness are off.

How can I transfer my iPhoto photos and iTunes library to my new iMac?

If the Migration Assistant won't do it, move them over as you would any other folder; they're located in the Pictures and Music folders of your home folder by default. The iPhoto library needs to be transferred via a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended or through an AFP network share.

  • I need help on back up and more storage for photos and videos.  I have a imac (500g) that I back up to a 500g hard drive using time machine.  How do I set up a larger hd and back that up as well?

I can buy a 1T hd to store photos and videos to, but would need a second one to back that up as well?  I guess I need to know how to get aperture and iphoto to keep my photos on a larger drive and how to keep both the imac and that larger hd backed up.  Note- we can't get  DSL, so off site back up isn't a viable option.

Move your photo and video libraries to an external HD. Apple explains how to do this in:

  • How do I move Elements 11 photos and catalogue from iMac to new iMac both running Yosemite?

I've been researching best way to move my photos and catalogue from my current iMac to my new iMac.  I'm using Elements 11.  Both iMacs running Yosemite.  I know I need to deactivate the current computer's version of Elements if putting it on the new one runs me over the license limit - I don't think it will.  I have read enough to be pretty sure I have to NOT migrate the Elements 11 program to the new iMac because it won't work properly - I'll have to reinstall it from my installation disc on the new iMac.  So far, so good.
Now, I want the easiest way to get the photos on the new iMac, in the same folders, and preserve the catalogue and my current ratings on the photos.  I am unclear on how the catalogue works with its backup and restore function.  Should I move all my photos in their folders in exactly the same locations on my new iMac before installing Elements and trying to restore the catalogue?  I read about the ways to restore the catalogue and I am unsure about whether it just looks for the pictures in the places it expects to find them (which will be the same if I copy everything on to the new iMac first), or whether it restores the pictures where it thinks they should be (in which case I should NOT put the pictures on the new iMac before restoring the catalogue or I'll end up duplicating everything).   Also I have read - and been confused by - the options about restoring catalogue in new location, old location, etc.  I don't want my folders changed.  I have my pictures stored where I want them and I want to keep them there - and I'd prefer not to add some extra layer under the basic My Pictures on my iMac.
I have stored the most recent version of the catalogue, with all photos reconnected, on an external drive.  All the pictures in the catalogue have their meta-data associated with them.  I hope that this will allow me to preserve ratings.  Going through thousands of pictures to find the really good ones again is a time-consuming mess.  When I went from Windows to Mac 3 years ago - I lost the catalogue and all ratings.  When I upgraded from Elements 9 to Elements 11, I lost the catalogue and all ratings.  I do NOT want to ever go through that again.

I appreciate your answer and agree that it is correct, but you told me nothing I did not know.  There is an Elements technical paper which says this in much greater detail, but still does not answer the questions I was trying to ask.
The catalogue file seems much too small to include my thousands of photos.  Are you telling me that it has magically reduced the size of all those photos - from 64 GB to 33 GB, and added the catalogue information - so that the photos will just appear out of nothing but that smaller catalogue file when I restore catalogue?  If so, will you explain the options of same location, new location, new location with existing file structure, etc?
I understand installing the program.  I understand that I should backup the catalogue (I've done it).  I understand I will use restore to restore the catalogue.  I found all this on other sites.  I need someone, somewhere, to explain to me if I need to copy the photos themselves to their new location before I restore catalogue - or not.  And which option in restore to use.  I thought I explained this in my original question.  Any help on these questions about matters I do not understand will be appreciated.

Yes you can. In iPhoto create a Album with the photos you want in it. You can drag them from your Events folder. In iTunes with your iPad connected go to Photos by cliking on your iPad. You can then select the album or events you want.

  • I need to get back individually erased photos and videos from my iMac with no backups to help. Please help

i need to get back individually erased photos and videos from my iMac with no backups to help. this is an attempt to consolidate all my data, new and old so I can uninstall Maverick and put Mountain Lion back on my iMac.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the files have been overwritten and you don't have a backup, they're gone.
If they have not been overwritten, then there are third-party apps (for example Techtool Pro 7 ) with data recovery functions that might be able to retrieve some or all of your files.
    Backing up is good.

  • Colormunkie Photo printer profile (*.ICM and *.ICC ) are not seen by LR4.2 in the Print Job section

Colormunkie Photo printer profile (*.ICM and *.ICC ) are not seen by LR4.2 in the Print Job section
I used Colormunkie Photo to create an .ICM file for printer calibration.   When that failed I tried changing the suffix to .ICC.  Under neither circumstance did LR4.2 display the file in the menu to select printer profile.  There were several display files with both suffixes but no printer files at all.  I tried three times with no success and cannot think of what else to try. The first two were the same.  I varied the file creation name suffix in the third.  Help will be appreciated. My OS is Win 7 ultimate SP1  Printer is HP 2550L laserjet.

Glad you found your answer, Colormunki is smart enough to figure out the color space for the printer as I found out - But for quality work the latest generation of inkjet printers from Epson and Canon are hard to beat, and compared to a laserjet the quality is like night and day. The other benefit of changing up to an inkjet printer is the choice of papers available which you could not put through a laserjet.
I had a colleague that tried printing on Photoglossy paper through his color laser and it fried the fuser, and HP, while they replaced the fuser unit under warranty, made it very clear that that was a daft thing to do.
So if I were in your position I would go with an inkjet and you will then enjoy the benefits of better quality output, better paper choices and with your Colormunki be able to make custom profiles that will work in LR
    Cheers

  • How do I best transfer over 3,000 photos and 125 short videos from my iPad Mini 2 (iOS 8) in "Photos" to my IMac without uploading them to iCloud or any wireless net service (I wish to directly transfer the files via a USB cable, not AirDrop)?

I'm confused as to the procedure of transferring a large amount of photos and videos from my iPad Mini (iOS 8) to my iMac (latest Yosemite OS) without using wifi or Bluetooth or uploading to iCloud - I wish to transfer the files using a simple USB connection alone - I expect I have to use iTunes unless you know of another procedure - if I must use iTunes - can you explain the file transfer procedure? Thanks!

  • Missing Photos and albums in iphoto on the iMac (2012)

on the imac I´m missing all the photos till 2011, and on the macbook air all till 2008 and between 2008 and 2011 i`m also missing some.
Has somebody any idea why iphoto doesn´t show or has deleted all the photos and how can i bring them back? On the iMac I´m also missing all the Albums, it just doesn´t show them and i can´t find a button in the settings to switch this...
so if anybody knows how i can fix this...

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier or IPhoto 11 and later) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
    or
Library ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 9 or later)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • What is the best way to transfer only Photos and Music from imac to imac?

hello i have an old 24" imac that is loaded down with iphoto pictures and itunes music. i recently got the new 27" imac and wish to only transfer the photos and music files to the new computer. i have a cloned hard drive of my old imac as well as a time capsule copy of it.
i don't want to just restore my entire old hard drive onto my new imac because there is a lot of junk on there i don't want on there. so, what is the easiest way to move just these two types of files? i don't know how to find these files and move them?
i know how to attach both imacs via firewire, i just don't know what is the best way to make the transfer of both these file types?
    thank you!

copy the folders /users/username/music/itunes and /users/username/pictures/iphoto library to the corresponding locations on the new install.
note: itunes and iphoto should not be running when you do this.

  • How can I transfer my photos and videos from Palm Treo 750 to iMac OS X 10.9.5?

My old Palm Treo 750 which does not have any service has very special photos and videos I would like to put on my iMac OS X 10.9.5. I plugged the phone into the USB adapter and the phone is not recognized. Can anyone give me direction?

Your phone is in recovery mode. You won't be able to get anything off of it until you get it out of recovery mode. Try this:
    http://jaxov.com/2010/05/recboot-iphone-recovery-mode/
If that doesn't work, you have no choice but to restore the phone. But, you'll lose all data on the phone going that route.
