Colors dull, sometimes

I've had this problem before. I can't remember how I fixed it. This is in regard to my G5 Dual desktop. All of a sudden colors are dull, at least in some places. For example, the stock widget has green and red where it shows prices as being up or down. These have changed from bright green and red to dull green and red. On some web pages the colors of photos are dull and others normal. All the colors for Labels at the Finder level have gone dull.
I have tried restarting, shutting down completely, checking and switching my monitor color profile, zapping the PRAM, and I've checked the settings in Universal Access -> Seeing which appear correct with Black on White selected and Contrast at Normal.
Does anybody know what causes this or how to fix it?

There may be a graphic card processor issue or power issue behind changes in display colors
if they shift randomly and without explanation. Also, if the computer is running hot due to an
excessive dust accumulation then the power supply vents, fan, and other apparatus needs to
be cleaned of debris. This may also be the case in airflow through the channels where other
circuits are expected to lose their heat; since heat may be an issue behind hardware problems.
And troubleshooting can take on more than a few angles, since you have to find if there also
may be a software issue behind some of the symptoms the computer appears to display.
Do you have a heat indicating control panel such as Temperature Monitor? This kind of item
may allow it to be configured to report CPU heat sensor readouts & other sensors as available.
It is possible there may be a graphics card issue, and it could be failing.
Another source of odd behavior could be corrupted data on the system's hard disk drive; so
if there is something amiss there, that'd be another matter. Heat issues are suspect, though
not much more than a feeling at this point; some heat exchangers need cleaning more often
and there also may be some other problem going on. Failing hard drives also generate heat.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • COLOR DULLING WHEN SAVING

I am trying to save a psd file into a jpeg or tiff but everytime I do the colors dull so badly. I am trying to create a business card for myself and when I go to save it either way and upload it the colors are so dull compared to what I created...
    What am I doing wrong?!?!

To Ann: I am sorry if you think I am being rude I just felt like I was being talked to like an idiot. Maybe I don't know enough about Photoshop but I don't expect fellow users to talk down to me because of it.
To Buko: I don't have thin skin, you did not hurt my feelings I was just expressing how I felt about the way you addressed me is all. I really am sorry about the way I answered you. I was just surprised at the message you left me when you talked to me as if I was a child. I will openly admit I don't know enough about Photoshop which is why I came on here to find out how to figure out the problem I was having. I appreciate your feedback as well as everyone else's, I honestly do. I still have a lot to learn which is why I am in school but they don't teach me everything I need to know.
But after everyone's advice I was able to fix a lot of my problems; only to learn that I just need to find a new printing company in order to get the colors I need for this business card.
Thanks again, everyone, for all of your help. And again I am truly sorry if I was rude to anyone or offended anyone. It was never my intention.

  • Colors dull in Acro X and XI but not 9

I created a PDF in InDesign using High Quality Print for the preset, when I view it in Acrobat 9 it looks "correct", just as it did in InDesign. When I view in X or XI the colors (i.e., red) get dull and washed out. Can anyone give me any insight?

If the plug-in is not even loaded, chances are that something goes wrong
when the OS tries to link the plug-in to dynamic libraries. Verify that you
have all the libraries installed that are required to run the plug-in.

  • Colors dull when saving an .eps

I created an RGB file in Illustrator CS5. I saved an .eps, also RBG, and the colors are much duller. I've tweaked the color settings and tried using Pantone colors to no avail. Not sure what else to do?

Supposing you save to EPS version 10 or above:
When opening the EPS in Illustrator you shouldn't see any difference at all, because Illustrator will open the AI part of the file.
Only when opening or placing the file in another software you might see this difference. So: which one is it?
You only see a difference if you check the "include CMYK colors" option in EPS settings.
    This opens 2 questions:
    - do you need EPS at all?
    - do you actually need this CMYK data?

    did it happen to you?
    is there a cure?
    thanks
    cheers

This has been happening to me today only. I have been using this program for about a year now. Today I duplicated a layer, went to select at the top, and selected "Select Color". I selected a lot, most of the image, then when I clicked "Okay" it crashed. I did this several times and it persists. I remembered to copy the error thingy one time and it was this:

I don't have any plug-ins and when I went to look at the files listed, I opened WER3D6E.tmp.version.txt. But when I closed it, neither it nor the other two were there. I'm guessing the .tmp means they're temporary and I was only able to open that one because I did it so soon after the crash? Anyway, I came to these forums and saw something about MM fonts - I don't have any. I also saw people with this problem - color select. So, I opened CS5, duplicated the layer and before I could click "Select", it crashed. I forgot to get the report     but I got this:

  • Exporting Colors Dull!

[Note - I have figured it out for my document but am posting anyway as this is a continuing problem with Adobe products, so many people having problems, etc., none of which had my solution (that I could find)]
I am trying to export a PDF (or high res jpeg) from Illustrator CS4 and they are looking very dull compared to my working space.
    Working Space:  Adobe RGB
    Document Color: RGB
    Proof Colors:  OFF
Save As a PDF and Export to JPEG both produce dull colors.
Save for Web - works correctly!  ICC profile is not attached.
It seems like the colors are getting converted to sRGB when I export to PDF or JPEG (only Save for Web shows an option NOT to attach ICC profile).
NOT:  I found the problem:  Save As >  Output  >  Include All Profiles
BIZARRE:  what I find very odd is that Save for Web I leave ICC UNCHECKED (no profile attached), but for PDF I have to INCLUDE.  Makes no sense (to me)
ADOBE:  please, please, please make this more intuitive.  There are literally numerous settings that have to coordinate to get these programs to work as you would expect.  It shouldn't be a complex issue - set a doc to RGB, it should output as you are viewing it, UNLESS you specifically change everything.

    Kate,
My document is set to Web with CMYK colors
That seems to hold a contradiction. Why not RGB, the only colour mode relevant to the web?

  • Console color overwriting sometimes

I've got a function that I wrote that is part of a larger script.  The issue I'm having doesn't seem specific to this function, but it's an example of what I'm seeing in general.  I'm doing this through the ISE if that matters.
About half the time when I run the script some of the colors get overwritten during the display where sometimes the line being written to the screen will have part of the color from the previous line in it, and not always just at the beginning.
    Example output
Program Name | Installed   | Latest
    Program 1      | 8.4.5.196   | 8.4.5.196
The "Program Name" line is in white which is the way it should be. On he second line the word "Program" is in green like it should be, but the number "1" through "| 8.4.5.196   | 8.4"
is white and ".5.196" is back to green again like it should have been.
I'm assuming it has something to do with multithreading, but I'm not completely sure.  I've tried inserting Start-Sleep -m 100 in parts of the script and it does help a bit but does not completely eliminate it and I'd like to not have to slow the
script down to fix it if there's another way around it.
Is there something I'm missing maybe?  I'm self learning PS after previous experience with batch files, and C#.
    Thanks
    function CheckProductVersion ($FilePath, $ProgName, $Current)
    $ProgName = $ProgName.PadRight(16,' ')
    if (Test-Path $FilePath)
    $result=" "
    clv -name result
    $result = (Get-Item $FilePath).VersionInfo.ProductVersion
    $result = $result -replace "`t|`n|`r",""
    $result = $result.PadRight(12,' ')
    $Current = $Current.PadRight(12,' ')
    if ($result -ne $Current)
    write-host "$ProgName|`t$result|`t$Current" -foregroundcolor "red"
    else
    write-host "$ProgName|`t$result|`t$Current" -foregroundcolor "green"
    } # End
    else
    write-host "$ProgName|`tNot Found`t|`t$Current" -foregroundcolor "white"
    ## Calling the function
    write-host "$CompName Report:`n"
    write-host "Program Name`t|`tInstalled `t|`tLatest" -foregroundcolor "white"
    write-host "---------------------------------------------"
    CheckProductVersion $Prog1FilePath "Program 1" $Prog1Current
    CheckProductVersion $Prog2FilePath "Program 2" $Prog2Current
    CheckProductVersion $Prog3FilePath "Program 3" $Prog3Current

Everything works currently the stuff at the beginning is just some remnants that I haven't cleared out yet.
As far as formatting, yes I understand it's not formatted and I'd prefer it that way as well. I'm spoiled by Visual Studio doing that for me automatically and the ISE does not.  I will revisit the rest of your suggestions later today.
Some of these things I'm doing are a result of some leeriness of my employer to allow IT to write compiled apps (I'm a Windows Batch and C# person trying to migrate to PS). Since Powershell covers about 90% of what I need compared to C# and it doesn't have
to be compiled it eases tensions with the powers that be.
Now that I even found that you can include WPF and XAML inside Powershell, I can write GUI apps as well.

  • Safari Colors Dull after CS2 upload

I am perplexed. I edited some images in CS2 with "Save for web" and uploaded them to the web. They are very dull in Safari but look fine in IE.
Anyone with experience in this area?

On this forum lately: JASimon, Oz, sez: " ... There is a bug with ColorSync profiles and Fast User Switching whereby *you can end up with the Generic RGB profile* instead of the appropriate LCD monitor profile after you switch users. You can read a little about it here along with a number of suggested solutions. This leads to a generally washed out and slightly bluish look to your screen (although I imagine it could be purplish depending on your screen).
It doesn't sound like you are using Fast User Switching, but it might be worth checking the Displays control panel when this problem occurs and have a look under the Color tab to see which monitor profile is being used...."

  • Color dull after importing to iMovie & then iDVD

i am doing a DVD project with my own sony DV camera but also the majority with a friends professional DV cam which features much biger lens, audio in, a good stereo mic on top of camera etc. when i played back the clips from the camera thru TV they looked great but when i imported them via DV/firewire lead in iMOVIE the color is dull & lifeless. is there a way round this. i wondered if it was because i used DV out rather than AV out to import to my mac.
    can you help
    thanks

i am having the same issue. tried "adjust colors" in the video FX and the preview looked great, but application of the effect left the clip unchanged.
did you get any help from another source (since this seems to be without responses)?

  • Lumia 928 "Soft-White" display color: Dull compare...

I was showing my 928 to a friend who has an Apple 5s and the difference in display quality was dramatic.  The "White" background on the 928 was dull in comparison.  It became painfully obvious when comparing Kindle, the Apple was truly page-white while the lumia as a dull slightly yellow off-white.  I had the color turned all the way to "Cool" and it was still no where near as sharp or brilliant as the Apple.
I also compared it to a white-balance card and the "white" background is simply NOT WHITE
I thought the Nokia displays were supposed to be  State of the Art,  am I missing something here or is there something wrong with my 928
Has anyone else made this comparison???

hi mate, if you believe that the screen is too yellow then you can take your phone to Nokia Care for inspection.

  • Visited links sometimes don't change color, sometimes do, at the same sites.

I am using Firefox 4.0.1 under Win XP. Under Options/Content/Colors, the color of unvisited links are blue and visited links are purple. However, when I visit a link by clicking on it, the link temporarily changes color but after I visit the link and return to the original page, "'''''sometimes'''''" the link has reverted to its original blue (the unvisited color), and "'''''sometimes'''''" the color becomes the color it should be -- purple for a visited link. Using IE, the color always changes as it should.

Thanks for the input.  I tried that, and it didn't work.  It appears to work for everything else - just not download links.
Here's an example of my links:
    <a href="http://cdn.setxvideo.com/001.MTS" target="new">001.MTS</a>
    in my header is
    <style type="text/css">
    a:link {background-color:#B2FF99;}    /* unvisited link */
    a:visited {
    background-color:#FFFF85;} /* visited link */
    a:hover {background-color:#FF704D;}   /* mouse over link */
    a:active {background-color:#FF704D;}  /* selected link */
    </style>
Again, they work correctly in FireFox but not Safari.

  • Colors change when saving to PDF from InDesign

I admittedly don't understand color handling, no matter how much I seem to read about it. Lately my files that I've been exporting to PDF from Indesign have looked slightly different and odd to me once they're converted to PDF. Sometimes the colors are dull, sometimes the drop shadows are a weird grey... Here's the latest example. Perhaps someone has some wisdom for me here...
I created this poster in Illustrator. Here's how it looks in Illustrator:
Then I went into Indesign and linked the file. (this is strange...) When I display the file with "typical display", it displays as such:
That looks pretty good... But when I set the display to "high quality display", I get this:
This is also the result I get when I open the exported file in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Why the color change?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Will...
So, upon investigating, I realized that my color space in Illustrator was RGB... Damn... I must have overlooked that... When I convert (in Illustrator) to CMYK, I get those strange colors again.
When I export to PDF, the Output is "no color conversion", so it's not being converted to CMYK yet...
Plus, I just linked the AI files in Indesign when I placed them in there.
So, Indesign must be converting the file to CMYK? And that's why the colors change once I convert to PDF? What do you think?
Also, I used InDesign to place the files so that I could create a 2-page pdf easily that the printer could work with. I had a 4-up handbills page in there that I was planning on printing as well.
So, if this looks best in RGB, what do you think about me sending an RGB file to the printer and then printing it that way? I've been told that RGB is no good for printing, but I've also read otherwise as well...
    Thanks again!!

  • How to get AirPrint on iOS to print color documents in black and white?

I use iOS 6.0.1 and I use AirPrint on my iphone4s to print documents wirelessly to my printer. The problem is that if the document that I am printing has ANY color on it at all, the printer will print that part in color. Sometimes I actually want the document in black and white only. But AirPrint doesn't give us the option to do this , like OS X for Mac does.
Color ink is way too expensive to just be using "willy-nilly".
Apple , give us a black and white option on AirPrint !
Anyone know any ways around this until Apple updates iOS ?

It might be a problem with your printer's color profile. Did you try to set the color profile in the print dialogue to "black and white" (choose: "more options" in the print panel) ?

  • Secondary color correction not working in Premiere CC

    Greetings,
I'm unable to build secondary color correction masks in Three Way Color Corrector, RGB Curves etc in the current version of Premiere CC.
In any of these plugins, when I check "show mask" I get the usual white slate filling the frame. But when I use the color picker to make a selection the whole frame stays white. It appears that I'm making selections but it's not building the mask for some reason. When making an extreme color change I can see that the mask is not building as it affects the whole frame.
This started after upgrading to CC. I've recently updated to the most up to date version (yesterday) and am still having the same problem.

*note-my Colleague is not having this problem, he's working on the same OS and same CC build but he has an Imac. So I'm guessing this problem is unique to my hardware config.
Anybody else have this problem or know of a fix?

If you open the title tool and try to make color changes or change size of the font it sticks at the default color and default font.
