Colors Inconsistent Despite Profiles

Running CS5 - I set up the color profiles in Bridge so that they would be consistent across all CS5 programs,
yet colors (even PMS) look quite different between Illustrator and Photoshop.
please advise

Illustrator and Photoshop have different CMYK breakdowns for PMS colors, so you have to manually change their values.
For example PMS 293 in Ilustrator CS4 is 100 57 0 2. Photoshop CS4 is 100 76 8 1.
Double Click on your color channel in photshop, then click on picker and change the value.

Hi ... Is there a color management ICC profile for the Color Laserjet CP3525?
I see references here and there on the web but can't seem to locate it.

  • Color management/print profile setting in LR2

I tried to set a custom print profile in the LR2 Print Module. Specifically, I picked print to JPEG and under "Color Management" I picked "Profile/Other. When I pick other, an empty pick panel pops up. I use Vista 32 and under "\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color" there are lots of ICC profiles available. How do I point LR2 to the location where Vista stores these profiles?

    franz:
    >As described in my opening problem description, I would like to print to JPEG and using the new LR2 ICC profile option provided under "Color Management" / "Profile/Other" and pick an ICC profile.
I'm not sure what the solution may be. When I chose to print to a .jpg file I see four profiles show up: sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Pro Photo RGB in addition to my normal printer profile. If I chose 'Other' then I see all of the profiles in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color. If I deselect 'Include Display Profiles' then I only see those profiles associated with my default printer. I know that sRGB and Adobe RGB are installed by the disk that installed my V500 scanner drivers, but those are 'generic' files and may also have been installed by other driver software.
Note, none of the profiles in that folder were copied there by me. All 31 were installed either by a printer driver installation, monitor installation, or installation of my Epson V500 scanner.
Quite possibly some were there after I installed the system but before I installed any drivers--I can't say for sure because I never looked at that folder before installing drivers.

  • Color Management Custom Profiles - None available (Vista)

I get bad color in my prints from LR. My printer supports Adobe RGB, and hence I believe it would fix the problem is I could get LR to convert the image to Adobe RGB before printing. Under Color Management, I click on "Managed by Printer" to get a popup menu that has both "Managed by Printer" (checked) and "Other" as options. I select "Other" and a window appears with the title "Choose Profiles" and the text "Choose profiles to appear in Custom Profile popup:" The problem is that the window is empty. There are no choices! I have checked and I have the ICC files installed in Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color and they are associated with my printer by windows. I copied and add icm versions of the icc files. Still no profiles appear.
Does this work for others? Can anyone get any options to show up?
Thanks for any help or advice.
    Davy

AdobeRGB and sRGB are NOT printer profiles, they are color spaces and you should not be able to select them in Lightroom. You need actual printer profiles if you want to print application managed from lightroom. Almost every reasonably modern printer includes them. It looks like this printer does not include them in a way so that you can use them. On most printers, you can still print printer managed, but it appears that this printer is not correctly color managed. I checked out the manual for it and it clearly is not color managed at all. Typical for HP's consumer line unfortunately. Apart from having a profile generated by any of the places that do that for you (which is about as expensive as an ink cartridge), I don't think you can print to this thing from Lightroom at all. In this case, really the printer manufacturer is to blame. They should have been doing ICC/ICM color management ages ago instead of relying on all applications to be dumb. It still stinks though.

  • How to compensate Cyan color with other colors with using profile

    Hi Guys,
I am using Adobe Illustrator CS3. Mac OS 10.4.11. I need a help regarding color compensate. let me explain clearly. I am doing a project in that i need to delete Cyan color and need to compensate with MYK colors. Is there any short way to get with good result.
FYI: we have UCR (Under Color Remover) profile which is for Black. With using this profile we can compensate black color with CMY with good result. Like this way only I want Cyan color compensate.
Is there any profile or method for that. If there, please share with me....
    HARI

I am doing a project in that i need to delete Cyan color and need to compensate with MYK colors. Is there any short way to get with good result.
You are getting rid of the C channel completely and trying to create the same color balance usign the M,Y and K plates? Quite simply - impossible unless your images have a narrow color spectrum. The K to some extent can be used to replace a lot of the density normally associated with the C. But there is a large part of the color wheel that you cannot produce with no C at all.
with actions and scripting it is not possible. because all the images are different, we need to work according to image.
This is not true. Actions are probably more powerful than you are aware and can be designed to bring up dialogs to allow you to tailor each image to your needs.

  • Color managemnt icc profiles on external display

I have an asus laptop running windows 7. I currently have Photoshop cs5.1 extended as well as lightroom3. I just purchased an external monitor (wide Gamut Asus PA246q) I do most of my editing and corrections on this monitor. I use the spyder4pro for calibration software on both my external and laptop monitor. I know the laptop monitor is not a great editing monitor, but I calibrated it anyway. Realizing its limitations, I use the external monitor for all use in Photoshop. My laptop display is set up as my “main display” in windows 7 and with my Nvidia GeForce GTX 560m card.
Here is where I need some clarification. There is some conflicting info out there and this has me confused.
When running Photoshop cs5 on my external monitor, if I look under the color settings in my working color space, it lists the monitor RGB profile as my laptop display. Does this mean that my external monitor is using the laptop profile? Some say yes, others no… if this is the case is there any way to fix this other that making my external display my “primary display”? I haven’t noticed the external monitor to have any color shifts or inaccurate colors, but I want to be sure Photoshop is correctly choosing the external monitors profile and outputting accurate colors.. Some clarification would be nice..
As I mentioned earlier, I also use lightroom as well. This too is located on my external monitor this should not be an issue either correct? Any help would be great… thanks for taking your time to comment, it is greatly appreciated

The working space has no relation to your display profile.  Each display has a profile, and documents are converted to that profile when being drawn.

  • Converting colors to SAME PROFILE alters color coordinates???

    Hello,
For the color geeks, quite by accident, I noticed a seemingly bizarre behavior:
Open a new In Design document and assign the standard sRGB color profile, add a single color square with a filled color (I chose #66FF00 or 102,255,0) and select the square with the fill color's numbers visible in the color palette.
Then, select Edit|Convert to Profile... In the dialog box: RGB Profile: choose sRGB (the same as the source RGB profile), for the intent, choose Absolute Colorimetric. (This means don't alter colors that are within gamut and clip those that are out of gamut, black-point compensation makes no difference either way in this scenario). Select and unselect preview and you'll see the color numbers (and the appearance) change!!! If you do this several times, your green square will keep drifting further and further away from the original coordinate and appearance!
I thought absolute colorimetric conversions were supposed to preserve in-gamut colors as-is!
I tried this with a few basic colors and found that the reds, blacks, whites, and grays are left unchanged. The blues and greens are shifted.
Can anyone explain why colors that are converted to the same color profile using an absolute colorimetric conversion are shifted at all?
    thanks!
PS. Incidentally, upon further testing, I see no color shifting when converting from Adobe RGB -> Adobe RGB and none when converting from ProPhotoRGB -> ProPhotoRGB (our default profile). So as far as I can tell, shifting only occurs when converting from sRGB -> sRGB. I know it's the smallest standard color profile, so perhaps that's a factor?

Hi Rob. Thanks for spending time replicating it. I double checked again today and found the same thing (pictured below--the images differ by the 'preview' box being checked). I'm running InDesign CS6 (8.0.1) on a Windows 7 x64 machine.
Of course, there is no reason to convert from a color profile to the same profile, but it makes me suspicious of the conversion algorithm employed by InDesign. For example, if you have a bunch of links of varying color profiles and you choose to convert to a color managed profile upon exporting to a PDF, does InDesign shift colors/numbers for link containing the same profile that you're exporting to?
For example, if you're producing a catalog or program, and a client sends an advertisement image containing their logo (with specific colors) in the sRGB color profile and you link it in to an InDesign file and then create a PDF in the sRGB color space, will those logo colors shift?
I know my experiment doesn't show much color shift, and I wouldn't worry about it, but it really shouldn't shift at all. I'm more curious than concerned.

  • Color space and profiles clarifications

Does FCPX consider the embedded color profile of my clips ?
What is the default color space of FCPX projects ? (if any)
Can I select a specific color profile for my projects ?
My clips (according to after effect_cs6>interpret footage>color management) have this color profile embedded: HDTV (Rec. 709) Y'CbCr, but if I check out the same clip once transcoded to prores422 by FCPX there is no color profile anymore. What's goin on ?
I come from the photography world and we consider color profiles very important, what should I know about them when working with video ?
    Thanks a lot

Thanks TOm, what do you mean internally ? In AE I can select a color space from a long list for my projects while FCPX discard the color profiles from the imported clips... how can it even manage them ?

  • Permanately Saving Color Settings and Profile in Photoshop CS2

    Hello,
We have Photoshop CS2 for Windows and Photoshop CS2 for Mac. I have custom color setting .csf files and .icc profile we want to load in Photoshop permanently. If I use the load option in Photoshop it appears the color settings will load these settings temporarily. If I choose another color setting and go back to the custom settings, I will have to reload the settings again.
Is there a way to permanately have the color settings permanately appear in the list without having to load by using options in the Photoshop menu?
Now I know if I manually drop the .csf or .icc file in the below folders located in the below path, the settings will permanately appear i, but I don't know if there is an easier way using the menus within Photoshop to permanatly load these or do we have to manually install these files to get this done. Trying to give out directions on how to do this would like to know if there is an easier way.
    On Windows:
    in Windows, it's inside Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Settings.
    On MAC:
    Library\Application Support\Adobe\Color\Settings folder;

  • How to push color settings and profiles?

I understand AAMEE 3.0 does not support packaging settings alltogether with the apps.
So the questions comes, how do you guys push the color settings and the workspaces to the newly deployed CS6 packages?
Is there a safe/approved way to do it?
    Thank you.

FOGRA39 is fine for sheet fed offset-printing in Europe (central Europe at least).
For web fed offset printed magazines you may want to use either ISO Coated v2 300 (ECI) or PSO LWC Improved (ECI) if you have no further information.
    And for newspapers ISOnewpaper26v4.
    http://www.eci.org/doku.php?id=en:downloads
You may want to read up (in the Help or  other resources) on Color Management, though, to get a grasp on factors like Render Intent.
And better not use »Assign Profile« unless you are certain you understand what this does.
Will be printed CMYK image as well, as it looks?
That would naturally depend on your monitor and how regularly it is calibrated.

  • Color Inconsistency Problem when opening a file designed in InDesign

I am designing images in Indesign CS. I am using lab color. When I export those files as pdfs (in the color settings I check "leave unchanged") and when I open them up in Photoshop CS in lab color, I use the eyedropper tool to see if my colors are the same. The lab color numbers are all shifted slightly from what they originally were in InDesign. I am using color management in both Photoshop and InDesign with the same profile. Shouldn't my colors stay the same? Why are they changing slightly? It is very important that they be exact.

    Mary,
    I've done two tests:
    1. Open p.3 of this doc in PhS (CS2) in mode Lab:
    http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/swatch16032005.pdf
The doc was programmed in Lab by PostScript. PhS shows
the correctly rounded values (original values under
each swatch). Occasionally tiny errors like this:
    50.47-->51 .
    2. The same doc p.3 placed in ID, then added a rectangle
with Lab=50/60/70. Exported as PDF (colors unchanged)
and opened in PhS: exactly 50/60/70.
So far everything seems to be correct, but the second
test concerns only one ID Lab swatch.
If you send me an example doc with color swatches and
numbers then I would analyze it (e-mail by clicking
    on my name).
Clicking on the name doesn't work. Use [email protected]
I don't have CS, only CS2, if this should matter.

  • PS6; print; PS print settings; color management; printer profile: how to get paper profile to "stick" for multiple prints of same paper type, ie Matte. Mine reverts to Luster as the default.

    see question

    Hola Gustavo,
your task is for me not quite clear. I can see two scenarios:
    a) Calibrate the press for  ISONewspaper26v4 ink (your standard process) on salmon colored paper.
Print the target by press on this paper, measure and build the profile. There is no problem so far.
But preparing CMYK data with this profile for printing by press requires a very complicated gamut
compression, becauses the gamut of the actual process on salmon paper is small and excentric
in Lab. As mentioned in my previous post.
    b) Simulate the appearance of press prints on salmon paper, disregarding the salmon color by profiles.
This shall be done in your case by a toner printer.
The toner printer has to be calibrated with white paper. As a result one gets a valid Printer Profile.
The proof printing happens for a CMYK file, for instance a PDF/X-1a file so:
        Input profile: ISONewspaper26v4
        Output profile: Printer Profile
        Printed on salmon paper!
The printer profiling converts the toner printer into a more or less reliable proof printer. This has nothing
        to do with colored paper.
    Page 11 shows an example:

  • Color inconsistency when printing

I have an Epson 1400 printer.  Sometimes I can have good prints and other times they look bad.  I have found that Epson only likes Epson paper and inks, but there still is a problem.
I use PSE8 and if I do just the opposite of what Adobe advises, I print fine and almost any paper.  I have to shut off the PSE color management and use the printers.  Am I doing something wrong or do I just not understand all the stuff in PSE.  Appreciate any help.

First, make sure you have the Epson printer-paper profiles downloaded into your computer. The chances are good that they are because when you downloaded the printer driver, the profiles should have also loaded.
Second, in the PSE Editor, make sure you have a photo displayed that you want to print. Then, in the File menu, select Print. In the box that comes up, select More options....Then, select Color Managment. In the box to the right, in Color Handling:, select Photoshop Elements manages color. In Printer Profile: select the type of paper you're using, such as PremiumGlossyPhotopaper. This should follow the name of your printer, so one of the many choices should read something like Stylus Photo 1400 printer, PremiumGlossyPhotopaper. If you don't see your paper, then you'll need to download their profiles, either from the CD-ROM that came with your printer or from Epson's website. Assuming that you found your paper, next go to Rendering Intent: and select Relative Colorimetric. Next, click on Printer Preferences, which takes you to the printer's dialog box. Once there, select the paper you're using, such as Premium Photo Paper Glossy. Finally, be sure that No Color Adjustment or ICM appears in one of the settings boxes. Now try printing and see what happens.
The chances are good that the colors will be pretty close to what you see on your monitor, but the print may be too dark or too light (usually too dark). What you need to do next is calibrate your monitor. Perhaps the cheapest way is to buy Pantone's Huey Pro for about $90. It's a little spectrometer that you stick on your monitor and, when you activate the accompanying Huey software, it automatically makes the monitor accurately display the colors. You have to manually adjust brightness and contrast using little comparative circles that Huey displays on the monitor. Unfortunately, with today's LCD monitors, this can be pretty hard to do. However, you should be able to get into the ballpark and you can hone in of the correct brightness and contrast adjustments by making several prints until you get one that's pretty close to what you see on the monitor.
Hope this helps. Maybe someone else can chime in with a simpler explanation; I'd love to see one.
