Colors look very different when saving to jpg from psd

I'm working on a CMYK image and when I save it to jpg from photoshop CS6, I get this difference in color:
In photoshop:
Viewed from Preview as JPG:
I can't figure out what's causing this color change... I've never had problems saving to jpg before...
Any ideas?
Thanks!

When you save the jpeg are you using Save As... or Save For Web...? To keep the jpeg mode as CMYK you have to use Save As and if you want the jpeg's CMYK preview to match in other color managed applications you have to check Embed Color Profile.
In the Preview app if you choose Tools>Show Inspector the dialog will tell you what profile is embedded. In Photoshop if you choose Document profile from the pop-up in the window's lower left corner, the document's assigned profile will be listed. The Preview and Photoshop profiles have to match in order to get the same color soft proof:

  • Colors look radically different

Sorry if this is such a newbie question…without fail, whenever I find a theme I like, it looks completely different on my system. I can either re-create the color using cmyk or rgb values in Illustrator OR import the theme, and the colors always look different from what I see looking at them on the kuler website. Using CS3, 24" iMac v10.5.8.
    Thanks!
    Cheri

Yeah, I am seeing the same thing.  When I build a palette in Illustrator and then enter the exact same color values in Kuler to build/save a palette, the colors look very different.  And from what I can tell, the Illustrator versions are much more accurate.  Another interesting thing, I have 2 monitors calibrated to match, and can drag items from one to the other with very little color shift ... but when I drag a Kuler page (or even a screen capture of a kuler page), the colors shift dramatically from one monitor to the other.  Very strange.

  • Why the colors look so different betweet my Camera Raw and Bridge?

We know that after editing images in Camera Raw, thumbnails in Bridge will updated according to the new xmp files.
However, for some of my Raw files, the colors look very different in Bridge after makeing adjustments in Camera Raw, I can see more red in those phoots. But when I reopen the file in Camera Raw, all the colors are just correct.
For those photos without applying xmp files the colors looks exactly the same in Camera Raw and Bridge.
Does this means that my Camera Raw and Bridge use different color space? How can I fix this problem? Thank you

If you want help, you need to specify your platform (Mac or Windows), the exact versions of your Operating System, Photoshop, ACR plug-in and Bridge.
Also look at your Bridge preferences and tell us what you have your Thumbnail preferences set to.
Re-setting your preferences and purging the cache would also help.  It could be something as simple as a corrupt cache.
Bridge is Color Managed, but it does not use a color space of its own.  It applies the color space with which each image is tagged, it assigns sRGB to untagged files.
When was the last time you calibrated and profiled your monitor?
    Details would help.

  • Screen shot colors look far different in InDesign and Photoshop.

Screen shot colors look far different in InDesign than when I vew them in Photoshop. The two program's color settings are syncronized.

    You have a profile mismatch.
In OSX your monitor profile is assigned to a screen capture. When you open it into PS the monitor profile will get discarded, preserved, or converted depending on what your CM Policy is set to in Color Settings. If you save the capture you get the option to include the profile or not. If you include the profile and place the file in ID you should get a match. If you paste into ID there's no embedded profile and ID's RGB Working space will be assigned.
Here I've saved a capture with no profile and placed it an ID document with ProPhotoRGB assigned (Edit>Assign Profiles...):
If I save with the profile embedded I get a match—or I can direct-select the screen capture on the page and use Object>Image Color Settings... and reassign the monitor profile without resaving:

  • I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

  • When saving a PDF from a FrameMaker book, is it possible to set document filenames as bookmarks in the PDF?

When saving a PDF from a FrameMaker book, is it possible to set document filenames as bookmarks in the PDF? Currently when I have a Framemaker book that I want to save as a PDF, I choose Save Book As and then choose PDF for the file format. A dialog box comes up in which I can choose the Bookmarks tab and choose which tagged content I want to be made into bookmarks in the PDF file. What if I would rather have the filename of a document rather than the chapter title be a bookmark in the PDF? Is that possible? Where would I choose that option? Thanks!

There are two ways that you could do this. You can either use postscript text frames and enter the correct pdfmark entries to show the file name with the corresponding actions (i.e. where to go in the PDF) or you can use hidden text in FM and the "Filename (Short) " variable in a unique paratag to be picked up by FM's bookmark creation.
To go the pdfmark route, see http://www.pdflib.com/fileadmin/pdflib/pdf/pdfmark_primer.pdf for details and also consult the Adobe Pdfmark Reference manual (http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdfmark_reference.pdf).
The hidden text route would use FM's Color Views to specify a colour as Invisible. This will make the content visually disappear from the screen (and any output), but FM will still be able to read the contents of any text that is coloured with the Invisible colour(s).
    1. Pick or create a colour that you want to be invisible. [Magenta is usually a good bet and stands out visually].
    2. Set that colour to be invisible in View 1 and visible in View 6. [you can use the shortcut <esc> v 1 and <esc> v 6 to toggle between the views.]
    3. Create a paratag to use for the filename and set the font colour to use the invisible colour.
    3. In the title of each chapter file, drop an anchored frame that is set to be outside of the text frame [so it won't interfere with any other content].
    4. In that AFrame, insert a text frame and use the invisible paratag defined in step 3.
    5. Insert the Filename (Short) variable in that text frame.
    6. Repeat steps for all files to be included in the bookmarks.
When creating the PDF bookmarks, select only the paratag used for the invisible colour.
Don't forget to toggle the View to be invisible (i.e. <esc> v 1  - this also works at the book level for all files in the book).

  • When moving from LR4 to PSE9 editor my photos look very different

I've recently bought lightroom 4 which I'm using with elements 9 and I know that lightroom 4 will slightly alter the look of photos previously edited in elements which hasn't been a problem so far.  My problem is that photos edited in lightroom/develop look completely different - unusably diiferent in fact - when I move them to elements/editor from lightroom.  What am I doing wrong?  The photos were moved using 'Ctrl +E' or 'Photo/Edit In/Edit in Adobe Photoshop Elements'.
I decided to check the photos that had been edited in lightroom by going into elements/editor via via elements/organiser and they were fine - only slightly different - but then when I opened the lightroom/library again I got a warning exclamation mark 'Error writing metadata' (not the warning exclamation mark 'Update to current Process (2012)' that you get in lightroom develop).
Am I missing something in the 'Edit Photo With Adobe Photoshop Elements' dialog box?
man thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the replies - I think I've got it working now
My photos are all RAW but the problem also occurred with jpg and psd files
I've worked my way through all the options in the 'edit in adobe photoshop elements' dialog box and this is what happens when the photos are sent from lightroom to elements:
    file format:
I'm using psd - but the same problem occurred with tiffs and jpgs
    colour space:
ProPhoto RGB - the colour changes significantly when the photo opens in elements
Adobe RGB (1998) - the colour changes slightly when opened in elements
sRGB - the colour stays virtually the same
    bit depth:
16 bit - I can't add layers to the file that opens in elements
8 bit - seems to work fine in elements
I am therefore sending photos to elements as sRGB 8 bit which seems to be working fine - hopefully there's no reason why I shouldn't be using these settings!

  • Why does my color look so different in CS5 compared to CS4?

    Hi everyone,
I am currently working on a document in InDesign CS5...have placed some CMYK artwork that I created in Photoshop CS5. All of my color settings are synchronized. Why does the color in the artwork look SO different compared to Photoshop? If I place the same artwork into InDesign CS4, everything matches as it should (once again, all applications use the same color settings/are synchronized).
I am completely baffled...what am I missing? Is there another setting I have missed out on within InDesign?
    Thank you,
    Christine

Okay....you are not going to believe this!! Perhaps this is a bug or perhaps this is a one-time-mystery-of-the-unexplained thing.
I went into my desktop version of CS5 and loaded completely different color settings...pressed okay, then went BACK straight away and reloaded my usual [custom] color settings and all suddenly looked PERFECT. [I am going to have to verify this when I go into work tomorrow as I just tested via remote login so am looking at things via my macbook screen. The color difference was VERY noticeable at first between the two ID versions on my desktop so I was able to easily tell. Now they look the same.
All in all, than you SO much for your help (so this was *not* a waste of time). All this troubleshooting really helped me a lot as to what to look for in future similar instances.

  • Editing timelapses in Lightroom- looks very different if there´s a small change within the frame

    Hi
We´re having some serious issues with editing timelapses in Lightroom (5.6). What seems to happen over and over again, is that if there´s a small change within the frame (such as a bird flying past, people walking), the editing result varies greatly compared to the previoius frame. It´s easiest to understand what I mean by viewing the examples below.
Here there´s one picture without a boat in the frame, and a few seconds later there´s a boat in a small part of the frame. The camera is set to full manual, and the two JPGs which show the unedited pictures shows that the background and sky in both pictures look exactly the same. However, after pasting the same editing setting on both pictures, the picture with the boat looks vastly different (shadow areas are much darker). It´s the same result weather it is a white boat, a black bird or a person walking in/out of the frame. The picture gets much darker, and leads to some serious flicker in the timelapse which can be impossible to get rid of.
I assume that as there´s a small change in the histogram when the boat enters the frame, this change affects what Lightroom thinks of as shadows/highlights on so on? The example below has some heavy editing applied (shadows up, highlights down, clarity). You can see the settings that have been adjusted in the screenshots below. Does LR change what it considers shadows/highlights based on the histogram, or are there standard settings? If this is the case, it would be much better for timelapsers if Lightroom had standard values for what is considered shadows/highlights, so that two pictures where the only difference is a person walking on the street or not, would look the same with the same editing settings applied. What I find strange if LR works like I´m asking here, why does the picture get darker whether it is a white boat or a black bird changing the histogram slightly. Shouldn´t they then have the opposite effect of each other?
Any ideas what is causing the difference, and what I can do about it? Thanks!

  • Lumetri Looks look very different between SG and PPro

Trying to create Looks in SG and use them as an effect directly appled to a clip(s) in PPro.  Works just fine except what you see in SG is vastly different than what you get in PPro, color-wise.  The clips are 8 bit HDV so some banding issues can occur-to be expected if I 'push' to far.  But this is really different, i.e. what appears grayish in SG is really yellowish in PPro, colors very different.  Any ideas?

First off there is a bug in the print dialog box with regards to the " proof" profile name and color preview. Make sure that if you change the proof set-up profile you also have to go to the proof set-up portion in the print dialog and re select the " current custom set-up" profile. This bug is completely adding to the confusing complexity of the print dialog box and is clearly in dire need of a complete overhaul.
Make sure the "match print colors" is checked as well to display the correct output to your device.
    To answer your question...
    >How can I get the workspace preview to match the Print dialog preview (which matches the printout better)?
In the proof set-up select the profile you want to apply in the " device to simulate" drop down. Select the rendering intent and if you want BPC as well. Make sure you select " Simulate paper color". Observe the preview and click OK.
Go to the print dialog and select " Photoshop manages color" - select your custom printer profile as well as applying the same rendering intent that you selected in the proof set-up - and if you are using BPC as well. Again, make sure you have "match print colors" checked. Also make sure you are not managing color in the printer driver as this will just double manage color and makes things more confusing.
Your working space preview in proof set up mode and your print dialog preview should match now - if not, go complain to Adobe about the retarded print features they offer...
As far as I'm concerned, they are completely lost in development as of now.

  • Colors change when saving to PDF from InDesign

I admittedly don't understand color handling, no matter how much I seem to read about it. Lately my files that I've been exporting to PDF from Indesign have looked slightly different and odd to me once they're converted to PDF. Sometimes the colors are dull, sometimes the drop shadows are a weird grey... Here's the latest example. Perhaps someone has some wisdom for me here...
I created this poster in Illustrator. Here's how it looks in Illustrator:
Then I went into Indesign and linked the file. (this is strange...) When I display the file with "typical display", it displays as such:
That looks pretty good... But when I set the display to "high quality display", I get this:
This is also the result I get when I open the exported file in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Why the color change?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Will...
So, upon investigating, I realized that my color space in Illustrator was RGB... Damn... I must have overlooked that... When I convert (in Illustrator) to CMYK, I get those strange colors again.
When I export to PDF, the Output is "no color conversion", so it's not being converted to CMYK yet...
Plus, I just linked the AI files in Indesign when I placed them in there.
So, Indesign must be converting the file to CMYK? And that's why the colors change once I convert to PDF? What do you think?
Also, I used InDesign to place the files so that I could create a 2-page pdf easily that the printer could work with. I had a 4-up handbills page in there that I was planning on printing as well.
So, if this looks best in RGB, what do you think about me sending an RGB file to the printer and then printing it that way? I've been told that RGB is no good for printing, but I've also read otherwise as well...
    Thanks again!!

  • IWeb site looks completely different when published compared to on iWeb...

For whatever reason, whenever I publish my website (I published it to a "local folder"), it looks completely different and VERY ugly.
This is what it looks like in iWeb right now:
    http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/WWEFreak69/Screenshot2011-03-22at34527PM.pn g
This is what it looks like when it's published:
    http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/WWEFreak69/Screenshot2011-03-22at33817PM.jp g
    There's an obvious difference.
So what am I doing wrong?

For one thing there are many files that did not get uploaded to the server.  You can see which by viewing your site in Safari and bringing up the Activity window (Command+Option+A).
The pages where the navbar is down the site appear to have much of the site's objects in the navbar section rather than the body of the page.  Go to the iWeb preferences and check the checkbox to show guides and image indicator.
The design link on the home page is inoperable.  Did you intend to have just the text be the link for the hyperlinks on that page or also the image that each text box is on?  Makes for a very small link to find.

  • Question - Y do my fonts look slightly different when publish site to .mac?

I've created a website on iWeb but when i publish it and view it in safari the fonts look slightly different. It's hard to explain but they basically just look worse. Can anyone let me know why this might be and how i could fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

Quit iWeb, go to Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete the file com.apple.iWeb.plist.
Restart your Mac, launch iWeb and republish.
You should really convert any text done in "copperplate" to an image. Otherwise it will be converted to an (ugly) alternative on any computer that doesn't have this font installed.
