Colors suddenly super-saturated

Sudden change to my Imac 20" display today. Colors - desktop, web browser, documents, etc. are super saturated, while white colors are washed out. The brightness/darkness settings on keyboard don't help. Open windows are whiter than normal, eg. opening hard drive, application folder icons super saturated, normal blue folders are somewhat washed out, as well as the background,
When I restart, or start up, when the desktop comes up, the colors are normal for a few seconds, then switch to super-saturated.
Reading on screen individual letters look to be of different colors, i.e, instead of black, they're blue, orange, purple, etc. Even in the words I'm typing in here.
Anyone have this problem? Is my display going? I've shut down to let it rest, but it still persists. The weird thing is when I start up, it's normal for a few seconds, then the colors shift.
Anyone? Thanks.

Wow! You certainly made my day! Thanks so much!!
I'm curious, how did this happen? The Display was always on Black on White, but dragging the slider more back to "Normal" fixed it.
(Just answered my own question...hitting apple/. at the finder level. (was trying to quit a scan yesterday, probably not in the scan window when I hit apple/.))
Whatever ..... thanks again, Niel

  • Why are the colors in my digital booklet super saturated on my iPad?

I find it ridiculous that I have to change the format of the digital booklet in the first place, but after I did that I transferred it to my iPad, opened iBooks and my digital booklet's colors re so saturated I could read half of the words in the book because they were black. How do I solve this??? Is it a bad download?

    Hi again John,
Now I am sitting in front of the right computer and I just checked the CMYK profile in AI and it says: North America Prepress 2.  I found the following tutorial on the internet and this guy says that it is best to use a CMYK profile called BEST WORKFLOW which is supposed to accurately display colors across all platforms.  In the tutorial, he also added that if you do not see this profile listed then you should Load (directly from the CMYK profile window) it from your computer.  However, I was unable to locate this profile on my MAC and since this tutorial is based on AI CS2, I am unsure if I can use it.

Which CMYK profile would you recommend that I use?

  • Colors look less saturated on tv

my problem is this: I made a QT-film using Imovie and then I burned it in idvd. everything looked fine when i saw the dvd on the computerscreen but when i tried it on my tv the colors were de-saturated especially the reds.
The original movie is very saturated but i like it that way. perhaps there is a tv safe color button somewhere that i should switch off before burning?
    I need help

I noticed the same thing on a brand new Sony HD TV via a PS3, and for that matter when replaying the DVD on the Mac, and on a SD TV with 16:9 capability and a standard Sony DVD player. Everything got much better when I changed the quality factor from Best to Pro (look in Project Info, and also in Preferences for the default setting). Still not nearly as good as playing the iMovie project results or raw data via PS3, but definitely better. I get the impression that standard DVD results are pretty much always going to be of reduced quality. BTW, the source video was 1080i AVCHD which is spectacular; my quality expectations for iDVD were already low, but until I changed from "Best Quality", I was depressed.

  • My email page is suddenly super tiny! I cannot read it! HELP!

All of a sudden, my email page is super tiny. I cannot read my emails and cannot figure out how to bring my page back to normal size. None of my other pager are tiny. Please help!

Hold down CTRL and hit the "+" key several times to increase the font size.
Also, click the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Content and in the Fonts & Colors menu, click the Advanced button. Where you see "Minimum Font Size", set it "9" (or higher).
Also, remove the checkmark from "''Allow pages to choose their own fonts''...."
I've included a screenshot of my own setup in case you want to try experimenting with fonts as well.

  • All of a sudden SUPER SLOW!!!  Why?

For no apparent reason my Powerbook G4 1.5ghz with 1.5gb RAM just started doing EVERYTHING super slow. Annoyingly slow. Clicking on the bookmarks menu in Safari took 10 seconds for the color wheel to stop spinning and to display the small to medium sized list of book marks. I just restarted and zapped the PRAM and tried to log in, and typing in my password took at least 5 seconds to acknowledge that I had even typed in the first 2 characters of my password.
    WHAT IS GOING ON?
I zapped the PRAM, did a disk utility verify and it was good. I checked the activity monitor and nothing out of the ordinary...
The only thing I've done differently is downloaded and installed Google Earth, which, if that is the source, I'd gladly remove it. Is there a way to uninstall a program so there are no lingering files?
I have the higher RPM drive, 80gb and it's 1.5gb away from full, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Please help... This $2600 computer is far too young to be replaced.
    Scott

    Hi Scott --
Sorry to hear about that. Seems from a MacFixIt article linked to on Applejack's home page (written byu Dan FDrakes) that Applejack is a pretty powerful program, that has both serious pros and cons: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=2005041817191411
I found a MacFixIt discussion thread that appears to outline the steps needed to delete Applejack from one's computer -- they reference the readme that accompanies Applejack.
Of course, these steps may not be of use to you can't start your machine properly. ;-(
Maybe you could try starting your machine in Safe Mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 ; http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393 Then, perhaps you'd be able to delete Applejack and restart your machine properly.
All of which, if successful, will bring you back to where you started, which (imo) is when you need to begin freeing up some hard drive space.
Well, hopefully Apple's phone support will help you recover your system. I would, of course, try all of their suggestions first.
Please post back how everything turns out.
    Good luck.

  • Display colors suddenly off - all black objects red or red glow

Suddenly, display colors went off. The cursor arrow is now red. Script displayed on browsers is now black with red hue and overtone. Pictures all "glow" red where they are supposed to be black. I did consciously change any settings. Short of a "clean install," how can I restore the original color display settings, or could it be another problem?

    Hello stepheneng,
Have you checked in System Preferences>Displays>Color tab for settings there? Is your normal Display Profile selected? You may want to try calibrating by clicking on the button found in that pane and see if you can improve your display.
    hope that helps some,

  • Replace color and hue/saturation?

Is there any real difference with using hue/saturation and replace color to change the color of an item OR is it just two ways to do the same thing?

If you did a hue/saturation change then both the blue and yellow would change according to the sliders that you use.
That would apply if you edit the Hue/Saturation’s Master (alt-2), but if the Colors are sufficiently different one could influence only the Reds (alt-3), Yellows {alt-4) etc.
And that’s naturally best done with an Adjustment Layer.

  • Why are the colors suddenly negative?

The colors on my iMac g4 10.4.4 are suddenly inverted...they look like photo negatives..I've tried to change it back in System Preferences and by shutting down and restarting but nothing helps...the colors are still all wrong...there must be something simple to change them back to normal but I don't know what it is..any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to know the reason why open System Preferences then click on Universal Access. Go down to Display and you will see options for Black on White and White on Black.
These can be set with a set of key commands, which you must have hit once by mistake (sounds odd but I did it once myself so I know it can happen).
If you want to make sure it doesn't happen again in System Preferences go to Keyboard & Mouse then Keyboard Shortcuts then turn off all the Universal Access commands.

  • Colors suddenly changed in Photoshop

    Hello All,
I have been using Photoshop 7 on Windows 7 Home Premium for three months with no problems whatsoever (with Pantone Huey Pro).
Suddenly the colors are out or wack, as you can see (please click the link). I reinstalled Photoshop. No luck, even with Huey disabled. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mark

    ssprengel, hklotze,
Thank you for your responses! I downloaded an updated video driver, but that didn't do much for Photoshop, but the OS looked much better. I reinstalled Huey, and that didn't help, either. Erasing Photoshop's preferences is what did the trick. Without your suggestions I may never have updated the video driver or thought to install new prefs.
    Thanks again,

  • Selective color partial de-saturation (both specific area AND specific color)

    Hi All,
I searched a little both here and Google and am now convinced this is not possible in LR. Please let me know your thoughts.
I want to select a specific area, say bottom half of the image, and then desaturate blue by 50% and aqua by 25%, without affecting any other colors at all.
Is this possible in LR? Takes 5 seconds in Photoshop, but I don't want to have to export and edit there. I experimented with the color picker under adjustment brush in LR, in hope de-saturation would only apply to the color I selected, but it doesn't seem to work like that.
There's the "HSL / Color / B&W" section, which is very useful, but it applies to the entire image. Basically I'm after HSL/Color type adjustment for a brush if such a thing exists.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Greg.

    Oggodei81,
regarding color change with the adj brush:
If I wish to change the color of, for example, hair, I first select that hair with the adjustment brush with all settings at default. then I fully desat the selected hair. I then END that adjustment and begin a NEW adjustment and, using color picker, paint on the unsaturated hair.
There is always the problem with getting the desat step and the color change step precisely alligned, but..........
Not always great but often works.

  • CS4 Color looks too saturated on Screen?

Hi all, not sure why but my color in CS4 Photoshop look oversaturated.
When I view them with ACDsee viewer or Canon software they both look the same. But when I use photoshop the images look too saturated. It's not easy to edit my photos, as the out put does not look the same as when I am editing.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, awaiting any messages that may help out.
    Coolpix

What are your colour management policies in the Color Settings panel? And do you calibrate your monitor?
You can get increased saturation -- actually ugly colors -- if assigning a higher gammut profile to an image tagged with a lower gammut profile, e.g. assign AdobeRGB to an sRGB image.
(Note that 'Assigning' a profile gives far different results than 'Converting to' a profile.)

  • Embedding a  movie (slideshow) colors are more saturated

Embedding a movie (slideshow) in Acrobat Pro (9 + 11) the colors are changing. They are getting more saturated, a bit darker and have more contrast. The "preview-image" is the same the colors are changing when the movie starts playing. Does anybody has an idea?

    Hello Fredelbert,
not yet seems to be a problem of acrobat. If you have a solution let me know.
    Best wishes

  • Apple TV download suddenly super-slow

Suddenly, after more than 3 years of virtually perfect and uninterrupted service, iTunes download on Apple TV seems to have become super-slow. WHY??
I used always to be able to stream and watch movies, TV series episodes, etc. virtually instantaneously, with few if any delays. Nothing has changed with my home ISP (30Mb download) or WiFi setup, and I have tried 'master-resetting' everything including Apple TV with a power-down-up sequence several times. However for the past 2 or 3 nights trying to watch episodes of Vikings S2 I have faced interminable waiting with 'Loading' or 'Ready to watch in 4hrs 10 mins', etc. messages.
Please help to resolve this issue soon - it really degrades the quality of service I previously enjoyed on Apple TV and iTunes.

    Thanks alex_h1.
However I had already tried all the troubleshooting steps defined in the link you gave except explicitly verifying DNS and network settings, which I have now done. Regrettably there is no noticeable improvement in Apple TV interminable download times, whilst itunes still works perfectly speedily downloading to our devices such as iMac, Macbook and iPad.
Any further thoughts or suggestions would be most gratefully received.
    BR, Tony
