Colorspace changed?
I've set up a customized colorspace, named it and saved it. The one pref I always change is that I work in Adobe 1998. So I'll be working in PS and then see that when I go to save an image, the box checked at the bottom of the Open/Save dialog is sRGB. I go the the color space dialog and low and behold it says North American General Purpose. How did it get switched? This has to be something simple that I'm missing?
Setup/PS 6/Mac
I've noticed this in the past. I would see that the colorspace change didn't "take" if PS would perhaps crash before I would as you said "gracefully" quit. This time I made sure to notice that I quit right after making the change to my custom workspace. I restarted PS and yes, my custom was there. That was yesterday. I was working just now and noticed it changed.
One question is whether another Suite app can change it. The only thing I've worked on outside PS is editing an SO in Illustrator. But I just went into that app and my custom setting was there too. My colorspace dialog says the Suite is synchronized. Is there some kind of funky bleed over where one app could change another's setting back to the default for some reason? Is this SO related?

A command was canceled or stopped while batching
I am trying to Batch out of CS8 using the "Save for Web" function. I recorded the File->Save for Web... Save... Close actions. However, whenever I try to apply this process to the folder it stops and says "A command was canceled or stopped while batching".
Any ideas how to help it not stop?
Thanks!
~LukeIn the SFW window under the save buttons is a preset section and then down are two menu tabs. choose the image size, fill in the desired settings and then hit apply when recording the action. I have two actions each for landscape and portrait images. I know you can use the automate function fit to image but since the option to select portrait or landscape in the find filter I use this method.
I have one action that resizes the file several times and places them in different folders. ending with a size 10 x 15 cm 300 dpi and colorspace changed to sRGB and this one I use for export to save for web at 600 pix. Works great :-) -
As the title reads:
I import a JPG with lightroom, do nothing on it. Then I export it. The output JPG colorspace is sRGB, same as input one. I do not allow the 'sharpen for screen' option in the export menu. Under preferences I do not allow auto tones or any other option.
The output JPG is slightly darker/contrasted/saturated than the input one.
WHY????
It doesn´t happen using PS, nor Capture NX2:
Thanks in advance!First of all, many thanks, I´ve been researching for a looong time before posting in here with no luck so far.
I made a test:
I opened (imported) a JPG with LR. Colorspace sRGB. Then I exported it. Colorspace is still sRGB
I did it 5 times. Taking the last exported image as next input.
So I have JPG1,JPG2....,JPG6
Each one is darker than previous with the soft I use for wiewing.
I open JPG1 with LR, navigate to JPG2 wich LR shows it as darker too, JPG3 is shown darker than JPG2 also... SO LR shows same as my viewers.
And here comes the funny thing: If I see hystory of JPG6 in lightroom, only 2 events appear, imported w/ date AND exported with date. SAME in any other of the 5 images.
SO the program when exporting make some changes that are not reflected in the historical. -
How to automatatically answer the "change colorspace" question?
After getting CS4 I am often getting asked if I want to change the colorspace settings of the picture I want to open.
In previous editions of PS/CS you could go to the general settings and set the answer to automatically always be the same (always ask/never ask/always set to either existing or original...).
Since I always want to change the colorspace to match the existing colorspace in CS4 I would like again to be able to set this as the default. How can I do this in CS4?It's in the color settings (Edit > Color Settings). Change the RGB color policy to Convert to Working RGB. Uncheck the appropriate (or all) checkboxes in color policy.

Why does LR4 show brightness changes after external processing in CS4?
I am an experienced user of Lightroom and get excellent results. But an anomaly is puzzling me. I capture images in DNG format and download to a PC Windows 7 using a calibrated Eizo graphics monitor. Before exporting and delivering a processed image I ensure that there is no unacceptable clipping showing on the histogram. I export 16 bit files which are only converted to 8 bits immediately prior to delivery. Recently I have adopted the procedure of importing a copy of the final delivery image back into LR4.3 for better library management. (There are often keyword changes or other refinements in the delivered image) Occasionally I notice that some pictures are noticeably brighter than the existing LR processed masters which formed the basis of the above operation. So I did some tests.
I selected an image with wide tonal range, adjusted it in Develop module to meet my 'no unacceptable clipping' rule and exported it as described above into CS4. My working colour space is Adobe RGB 1998 and Color Management is set to 'RGB Preserve Embedded Profiles'. In CS4 I only changed the mode from 16 to 8 bits and then saved the file using a modified name. That was the only processing done in CS4. Both files (8 bit and 16 bit) were then re-imported back into LR4 and the histograms compared with the original modified master file. In both cases they showed highlight clipping indicating that the image is brighter than when starting the final processing in CS4. In most cases the extra brightness is not a big problem; but in some instances it is quite unaccepable and I could not use that version without further processing in LR4. Mode change does not seem to be the culprit.
Can anyone help me to understand what I might be doing wrong to bring about these unwanted involuntary changes to normally processed files? Thank you. What colorspace do you have configured in LR for your TIF Edit-In export to PS? Since PS is out-of-date with respect to LR, presumably you are using the Edit with LR Adjustments option not the Open Anyway option.
What happens if you don’t change to 8-bits in PS?
What happens if you merely export the TIF from LR and re-import it? With variations being: if the Export bit depth is 8 bits vs 16 bits and if the Export colorspace is ProPhotoRGB vs AdobeRGB?
Do you somehow have lens-profile corrections set as the default for TIF Imports or any non-zero Toning being applied on Import? The LR defaults for TIFs can be set independently from the defaults for raws.
What happens if you use ProPhotoRGB in your Edit-In export settings and as your working space in PS?
What happens to the histogram if you soft-proof to Adobe RGB in LR?
Is your monitor calibrated with a hardware calibrator? If so is the profile ICC V2 or ICC V4? -

Firefox is crashing or closing unexpectedly
== Description
==
Problem: When I start FF in Linux, it crashes after the cursor is jumping for half a minute. Nothing is displayed. When I start FF from the command line, I get the prompt back after one second without any message. In safe-mode and with all extensions off it always starts.
However, when I change something in the extensions' settings, it may start: If I start in safemode, deactivate all extensions, and restart - here it goes, with all extensions off. If I activate all the extensions again and restart - here it goes again, with all extensions on. If I delete one or more of the extensions' folders in the extensions-directory of the profile (i.e. sth changes about the extensions!), it may start again, too, but not in every case.
What could be the cause of this issue and how can I resolve it?
I use FF 3.6.8 in openSUSE 11.3. The profile-directory I use with FF in Linux is also used by my Windows-FF. As for extensions, I use Greasemonkey, Firebug and Web Developers Toolbar

How to change document gamma (or create a "false profile")
Although there has been much recent criticism of the notion of "false profiles," generally associated with the person who espouses it, I would like to be able to convert a document which is in, e.g., Adobe RGB with a gamma of 2.2 to one of the same colorspace but a gamma of, say, 1.5. Although I can do this via the color settings dialogue, creating a new setting with the name, e.g., "gamma 1.5," and although at the time of creation of the new setting the document does indeed become lighter, nonetheless the setting does not "stick." That is, if I leave that document and later try to apply that same setting via edit>convert to profile, nothing happens. I'd greatly appreciate someone giving me some pointers on how to establish a setting such that it appears and is functional in the edit>convert to profile list. I'm working in CS2 in OS10.5.6. Many thanks

The Red, Green and Blue tone response curves are kept separately in the .icm file. You can see that if you open an .icm file in Apple's ColorSync Utility.app. In the case of AdobeRGB1998.icm you'll find that each of those curves has an identical Gamma of 2.199, but they're stored and display separately.
You would need access to a profile generating application to change that, and you'd need to know what you're doing. -
Plug-in / colorspace errors
I hope that this is a basic question with a simple solution. I'm running Illustrator CS2 (with the 12.0.1 update) and am having a problem with the standard Photoshop plug-ins that installed with it.
What I'm trying to do is apply a Gaussian Blur (through the Effects menu) to a type object. However, when I select the blur, I get an error that states "Could not filter the image because the plug-in does not support images in this colorspace.".
I've tried the obvious things that someone like me with a low level of Illustrator and overall design experience would try. That is to say, I've tried changing the document's color mode, along with trying several different color profiles. Nothing seems to work.
Is there some other colorspace function/setting that I'm not aware of? Or am I just doing something wrong? Or is my basic Illustrator setup bad?
By the way, this is happening in a clean, new document with no other elements.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Eric LevyAha!
Thanks Larry!
I tried setting my resolution to 300ppi in Effects>Document Raster Effects Settings and it still bombed out on me. Then I noticed that the Color Model dropdown box at the top of the same dialog was set to Bitmap. I changed it to RGB and everything works properly now.
Good Show!

Urgent HELP! how to resize a layout and change the color from black to white
Hey!!!
im in urgent help of someone to answer my questions. I have a huge Indesign exam monday and two of the questions are
-resizing a layout
-changing a color layout to black and white
I have done many porjects in Indesign but to be honest i don't know what they are refering but resizing a layout or changing the layout color to black and white. If any body can explain me this a little be I be so thankful!
Thanks,
Fiama PiccardoI've decided to relent a little and give you a hint, so you can do some looking and figure this out for yourself. Everything you need for either of those tasks is accessed from the File menu...
And a further hint. Indesign does not have a black and white or grayscale working colorspace, so you never truly have a black and white layout, though all of the objects in the file may use only black ink. You can, however, output a PDF, in a couple of ways, that will convert your color file to one that uses only black. -
RGB vs. CMYK Colorspace - Which is best to work in?
I'm designing a document for a client, within in InDesign. Up until my last save, I've been ignoring the notice about InDesign being set in the RGB colorspace. On my last save, I changed it to the CMYK colorspace and all my linked images got lighter (some not in a good way). I understand the difference, but my question is - for sending this to print, what is the standard colorspace that most printers use? Should I be designing in the CMYK colorspace or RGB?
Also, when I edit my photos, I switch back and forth between modes to get the best results, but what is the best mode to save them in - RGB or CMYK? I've heard conflicting answers.
I realize that printers print in CMYK and while it would make sense to save photos and InDesign docs in CMYK, I've heard people say it's best to save in RGB. Please help. If you could also please explain your answer, just so I can gain the knowledge on this subject and understand why I'm doing what I'm doing.
I should also mention that I'm working in CS3, but I save to a PDF from CS5.InDesign by default is set in the CMYK colorspace which is what most people who use InDesign would need. The only way to set InDesign into RGB is to declare your document intent as "web" which is a bad idea for any document that you might eventually print. If you know from the get-go you will be printing your document, set InDesign to the print intent. If you are designing for the web, set it up in RGB (web intent).
As for your images, I used to convert them to my CMYK profile early on and work that way but changed my methods a few years back as Photoshop has less editing options for CMYK images. My advice would be to keep the photo's/images in RGB until you are ready to send the document to print, then convert to your CMYK profile - IF sending to a conventional 4 color print press. If you are sending to a digital printer (including desktops), it matters less about converting to CMYK.
Of course you could keep the images in RGB anyway and let InDesign (or the PDF export) convert them all to the same CMYK profile but you might see color shifts, as you have been experiencing. By converting them yourself in Photoshop before you send to print, you see the changes and can adjust accordingly. -
PDEXGroup to set the Page Group ColorSpace
Hello,
I'm currently trying to add an Image into a PDF (that's the only content) but as I read on previous threads I'm trying to get a correct rendering when there is an alpha (channel/mask) in my image.
To do so I first create an Image (PDEImageCreate) then I create the Alpha mask and apply it to the first image (using PDEImageSetSMask).
The problem is now my image is too dark in "Acrobat Reader" and is correct in Evince. So I guess my problem is Acrobat try to blend in CMYK but my source image is in RGB.
But I don't really understand how I should/could specify that ? I tried in the Resources of the Page, and then I tried the PDEXGroup, but how can I add my XObject to the PDEXGroup ?
Am I on the wrong track trying to set the Page ColorSpace ?
Thanks in advance.Following your indication I re-read the paragraph relating to Transparency group. starting with the 11.4.7.
All of the elements painted directly onto a page—both top-level groups and top-level objects that are not part of any group—shall be treated as if they were contained in a transparency group P
My main question here is how do I get access to this "group P" ?
Because I didn't found how, I searched "how to specify a blending" which leads me to paragrap 11.6.3
11.6.3 Specifying Blending Colour Space and Blend Mode The blending colour space shall be an attribute of the transparency group within which an object is painted; its specification is described in 11.6.6, "Transparency Group XObjects."
Ok so how to define a Transparency group is in 11.6.6 (still my original question)
Summarized : a transparency group is a specialized form XObject with a Group entry in its dictionnary. (Group with subtype "/S /Transparency") Also a Page may have a Group entry (some entries in this dictionnary may be interpreted differently when in a Page group).
So (again) I looked at the right paragraph to make a Group 8.10.3, "Group XObjects".
This paragraph finally describe what the CosObj should look like I expect it to be something like :
6 0 obj % Form XObject
<< /Type /XObject
/Subtype /Form
/FormType 1
/BBox [ 0 0 1000 1000 ]
/Group <> /Matrix [ 1 0 0 1 0 0 ]
/Resources << /ProcSet [ /PDF ] >> /Length 58
>>stream
endstream
endobj
But alas my main concern is still here, how do I add a PDEImage in a PDEGroup or PDEForm or CosObj and then overwrite the Page content with this new content in order to change the default Blending ColorSpace ?
You said to use the Cos API but what the Cos Object should look likes when the Color Blend Space is correctly set ?
Below there is some code sample that I used to get this working.
1 void func()
2 {
3 PDDoc document;

Photoshop CS6 save for web some colors change?
I have a picture with large area of color: #fffdfd, when I save it for web (jpg) this color is changed to #fefcfd (in JPG).
I just can not save as JPG with #fffdfd.
(was trying uncheck convert to sRGB, do not embed color profile - always #fffdfd changes to #fefcfd when save for web)
However, color #fefcfd when save for web , does not change.
Why some colors change and some not? Is it a bug ?
Window7 64bit, Photoshop CS6Save for Web & Devices will strip some color data from the file.
Browsers aren't color managed. Most file formats on browsers assume they're sRGB. While Photoshop gives you an option of embedding sRGB to the document color space, it also strips off data that is not relevant. This is a common occurence.
PNG-24 on the other hand will give you the exact color match.
Also, Save for W&D, JPG quality matters a lot - The same color at Quality 10,20,30,40,50...100 wil give you different color reproductions on the JPG end output.
If you're concerned that much about an offset of +/- 1 hex value to your RGB colorspace, dont save for web & devices. Do a 'Save As' instead. Then use an image editing/ resizing application such as ResizeMe to resize the quality of your document. This, in most cases will retain colorspace information but just drop the resolution and quality of the image - giving you a lesser filesize.

Specific Colour changing Script from RGB to CMYK
I need to change the RGB values (imported from word) to specific CMYK values in Indesign (its not a straight swop) so I need a script or a similar plug-in that enables me to input the colour values for the CMYK so they automatically change.... the doc i work on is huge and im importing from a word file many times so i need to save time!!
Can anyone help me?
Thank you!Hi Phil... Hmmm not sure if i explained myself! Or maybe I am being thick.... I tried the new code but im not sure I was clear on my problem?
This is the current code i use to change the RGN values to the CMYK is: I have entered the RGB and CMYK values as they need to be changed and it works but the swatch pallette ends up looking messy! See below.

var mySwatch = myIDOc.swatches;

The outcome is the swatch pallette attached:
How do I incorporate the new code to make sure all the values are hopefully to end up looking similar to this!!??
Thanks for all your time and effort helping me!

Color change when transferring image from Photoshop to After Effects
Hi everyone,
I am trying to import a logo from photoshop CS6 to After Effects CS6, however the black color within the image changes to a dark grey when it gets into AE. I noticed on the color picker in PS that it changes to the same grey color that is used as the replacement web safe color. Therefore I'm assuming AE is just converting everything into web safe colors.
Is there something I need to change in AE to allow me to import the image and keep all the original non web safe photoshop colors?
Sorry if this is a very basic question thats been answered before, I couldn't seem to find the answer within these forums.
Many thanks in advance,
SpencerThis has nothing to do with web safe. You are making a mess of color management/ color profiles. You have soemthing enabled in PS and since AE by default doesn't use any color managemnt and just assumes plain sRGB, the colors change. There's no easy explanations here, but you have soem reading up to do about color management in general and also specifically how Photoshop corrects for monitor profiles and how to use the Proof Preview to compensate for that or how to establish a workflwo that mimicsa AE's "unmanaged" colorspace.

Adjustments change after reopening Aperture 3
I am working with Adobe 1998 colorspace TIFF scans from film. There have been adjustments made to exposure, saturation, levels and color. The photo looks great. I quit aperture.
Open re-open, I click on the image thumbnail. The thumbnail reflects how the photos looked as I left them from the adjustments during the last session. Unfortunately, as the image opens up, the brightness suddenly jumps one or two stops and a color cast (seems to be green) is added to the photo. Thing is, it appears that all the sliders are exactly as I've left them. This is affecting every photo I've worked upon, including those shot from digital cameras.
This is making my post-processing life ****. I cannot rely on my edits being retained open re-opening the photos!
I am using Aperture 3.1.1Thank you for the notes and questions. I've done the following:
1> I've removed all preferences and aperture files in ~/library and /library that pertains to aperture, including a re-install. Behavior persists
2> I've attempted to work on these TIFF files prior to the latest RAW update and after the latest RAW update. Behavior persists
3> I've created an entirely NEW library and placed two TIFF images into it. Rebuilt this library and the other two options. Behavior persists.
4> I've changed my monitor color profile to Apple RGB and Adobe RGB (1998) but this behavior persists across all color profiles.
5> Behavior occurs if ON-SCREEN PROOFING is turned ON or OFF.
6> I've upgraded to OS X 10.6.6 last night and the problem continues.
I've screen captured the actual behavior and uploaded it onto YouTube. You'll see that once I close the program and re-open, the image opens and then color shifts a moment later:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUjbeLQOWXU
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. The behavior is not consistent but I've found changing the tint to be the most reliable way of reproducing it. I've got some big client projects in the pipeline and I would like this headache to go away I really would rather not learn Lightroom!
