ColorSync can't repair a profile

I have noticed that some of my pics I convert in Adobe photoshop CS won't open or aren't recognised and become exec files. I get this note after using the colorsync utility........
Searching for profiles...
Checking 911 profiles...
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/150-Line (Pantone)
Tag 'gamt': Number of input channels is not correct. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'gamt': Number of output channels is not correct. Could not be fixed.
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/HEXNSID2.icm
Tag 'A2B0': Required tag is not present. Could not be fixed.
Tag 'gamt': Required tag is not present. Could not be fixed.
Repair done - 0 out of 2 profiles fixed.
I assume this is the computer file and not another app file?
I also cant open Unix exec files.

Ah! I've been assuming that these files already had extensions. OS 9 and earlier didn't give a darn about file extensions. The file type and what application it belonged to are stored in the resource fork. For example, anything that belongs to Photoshop has a creator code of 8BIM. The type code for an .eps is EPSF (all Type and Creator codes must be four characters long).
OS X, being built on Unix, and also a deliberate change on Apple's part to make the Mac OS more seamlessly compatible with Windows, relies more on file extensions than Type/Creator codes. They're still there, but extensions now take precedence.
Click on a file you know is supposed to be a JPEG. Do a Get Info on the file. Click on the arrow next to "Name & Extension:" if it's not already open. It's possible the file does already have an extension, but the check box to hide the extension is on. If it's off and the name still has no extension, then that's the problem. Add the .jpg extension to the name and it should then be recognized as such.
If this is the case, then there's really nothing wrong with the OS. It simply doesn't know what to do with an "unmarked" file, so it gets labeled by default as a Unix Executable, whether it is one or not. This is similar to Windows. Whenever it runs across a file with an unknown extension, it just gives the file a little Windows logo as its icon. It's Windows's way of saying, "I have no clue what to do with this file type". That's what OS X is telling you with your mismarked Unix Exec files.

  • Colorsync can't repair bad printer profiles

I'm getting really bad color qulaity out of my HP B8850 photo printer, but only when I print to photo paper (on plain paper prints the quality is fine).  Seems like a color profile issue so I finally came acrossn Colorsync and got "bad profiles" for all of my B8800 icc files.  I've tried repairing them numerous times but colorsync can't repair them (I tried unlocking them, too and that didn't work). Any suggestions on how to fix them?  Here's an example of one of the error messages...

I deleted all of the burried HP software and drivers and did a clean reinstall of it.  Still getting the same bad profiles and bad image prints on photo paper.  I switched to a different HP driver for a different series of printer and those are coming up bad as well.

This is driving me crazy.  I'm getting bad prints and there seems to be no answer.  Could it be just a colorsync/vendor matching issue that I've missed.  Anything I should think about in terms of settings that I'm missing?

  • Something's wrong with my hard drive, and disk utility can't repair it...

Two things. First for the permissions check, reinstall the 10.5.2 COMBO update and repair permissions. That should fix things. Alternatively, search these forums for ACL, sort by date, and read the responses and the article Apple posted three months ago: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306925
Second, for the *Incorrect number of file hard links* error, follow smithrj's advice. If DU can't repair the disk, you'll need something stronger, such as DiskWarrior.
BTW, please update your *My Settings* profile info. It still shows that you're running Tiger.

  • Can't access any profiles

I can't access any profiles. The mouse moves but won't click on anything. Not a mouse issue.

    Hello Tish1949,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with startup issues. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support
Here are a few tips from the article you may want to consider:
    Try Safe Mode
If you're using Mac OS X 10.2 or later, you can start up your computer in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair. If you're using Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier, skip to the next section. A Safe Boot, which starts up your computer into Safe Mode, might allow you to start up your computer successfully. To do this, follow these steps:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
After the system has fully started up, restart your computer again normally.
If your Mac successfully restarts, the issue should be resolved. If the issue continues, try using Disk Utility.
    Try Disk Utility
Use these steps to use the Disk Utility app to verify or repair a disk.
If you're using OS X Lion or later, start the computer from Recovery System or Internet Recovery. If you're using an older version of OS X and your computer came with a Mac OS X Install disc, insert the installation disc and restart the computer while holding the C key instead.
When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window, or from the Installer menu if you're started from an installation disc.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Startup Disk (usually named "Macintosh HD").
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Tip: With Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier, always start up your computer from an Install or Restore disc when using Disk Utility to verify or repair your startup volume. Otherwise, you might see some disk error messages.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    BobbyD

  • OOBE HELL can't delete a profile

When creating a profile I mistakenly typed exchange.  Now I am in Outlook OOBE hell.  I looked up how to fix this issue and they all talk about going to the control panel and going to mail.  Mail is not in the control panel.
Looking at the number of people that have had this problem the outlook team should provide clear remediation steps that actually work?

    Hi,
I understand it is frustrating that the current profile can't be deleted, I'll try my best to help you in this case.
You mentioned Mail was not in Control Panel, but I still would like to confirm if you had tried to search the word "mail" from Control Panel:
I usually input "mail" from the search box in Control Panel and then "Mail" pops up. We can remove the old profile from there and add a new one.
If you can't search "mail" in Control Panel, please let me know your Office and Windows version. Basically once we install Outlook the "mail" should exist. You can try repairing Office from Control Panel to check the result.

No way around this. Your phone has to be restored using a computer running iTunes. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Becasue this has never been a feature of iphone/ipod/ipad.  There is nothing to repair.

  • Disk utility can't repair disk (1 partition) on external hard drive

I've search here some to try to find the answer to my scenario, but I really don't understand how Disk Utility got involved in my external hard drive to begin with, so here's my question.
I have a 2TB Western Digital My Book Studio FW800 external that has 5 partitions, connected to my 2011 iMac. I had help doing the partitions and don't really remember the reasoning, but one is just for my SuperDuper! backup, one is Miscellaneous, one for movie clips off my camcorder, one for misc scanned photo's and one for my genealogy research.
I back up using Time Machine to a Time Capsule and also to this WD hard drive with SuperDuper!
Recently I'm getting a pop up message that "Mac OS X can't repair the disk "Genealogy"'.  And it needs to be reformatted.  It's become a read only disk.  When I look in Disk Utility it shows all the partitions as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" EXCEPT for the one in question.  I also noticed that there are a lot of files with "date created" being the same date in 1969!  These files may be letters I've written or photo's I added to that partition within the last few years.
I think I have to completely reformat the entire external hard drive to repair this, but I want to make sure.  Because it's going to be a major hassle backing it all up to another external (having to get one first) and then figuring out how to make the files that have turned "read only" in that one partition, back to their original state!
Does this sound right, that I have to reformat the entire external hard drive?  And how do I get the read-only files back to their original state.
    Thanks, Sandy

I don't back them up.  There isn't much on them, besides the one I save video files too, but those are 2-3 min snippets of school events, that are just uploaded to youtube without any editing (like titles, fade ins, etc.) through iMovie. All those vid's are on original tapes I have.
The partition that is giving me problems, I do have most of that on my iMac's hard drive, just not as organized.  I guess it's just seeming overwhelming to re-created those files into the same file structure on my iMac, but I think it could be done.
I'm still not sure why my brother had me do the partitions like this.  In the past I had just two partitions, one for the back up and the other for random stuff that I didn't want to take up space on my iMac.

The batterys the ipods come with are very sensetive somtimes they dont react right to the first couple of charges. Try fully charging it and then leaving it on until its completely drained a few times. If that doesnt work it might be a lemon.

  • My iPhone 5 screen smashed and apple did not repair it a phone shop did and now 6 month on my phone has completely broke  can apple repair it if I paid the cost of the bill

MY iPhone 5 screen smashed ages ago and I got a normal phone shop to repair it and that was 6 month ago my battery and the mother board is broken can apple repair this if I was to pay the bill and not asking them to cover anything

No. By having an unauthorized service shop open your phone you have forefited ALL service (both in and out of warranty) from Apple. Apple will never again touch that phone. Take it to the same "shop" that repaired it before.

  • Can I repair an OnLocation CS5.5 for Mac MOV file that was corrupted by a crash?

    Hi,
I have a 16Gb MOV file from OnLocation CS5.5 for Mac that has been corrupted. The program froze and then crashed mid record and the file is now unusable. Is there any way that the file can be repaired or the video footage recovered?
    Thanks,
    Larry

I believe it's a DV file in a MOV container but I'm not certain since OnLocation for Mac gives no options for configuring the codec etc.
Looking at posts about the windows version in seems that it uses a dummy header and replaces it with the real thing when you stop the recording. I was wondering if the Mac version does something similar and if it does an the header from a working file be transplanted across somehow.
    Thanks,
    L

  • After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely

After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely." What do I do now? This is an iMac and I'm running 10.6.8.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it. See below for how to clone a drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You may be able to backup your data if you have an erased external drive you can use. Before you do the above but after you have opened Disk Utility you can try to clone your drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Now this will only work if the drive is accessible and can be cloned by Disk Utility. Otherwise, you would need to access your drive from another Mac that you can connect via Firewire - Target Disk Mode.
