ColorSync Utility and downloading jpeg images

Related questions have been posted with some helpful ideas but so far I don't find my same exact problem (or a solution):
Attempting on my new MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.4.10) to download and open a 58KB jpeg image sent on Yahoo (and automatically scanned for viruses), a window appeared saying "ColorSync Utility cannot open files of this type". The image is downloaded as "securedownload-1, 2, 3, etc.", but won't open. This has not been the case with images sent via Hotmail, where the jpeg is recognized as such and opened in Preview. Why is it different with the Yahoo images and how do I change that preference permanently?
(Another post-reply suggested clicking on File in Finder and then Get Info and directing it to open in another application. I did, and chose Quick Time Player, but it makes me do it for every single image. Plus I would prefer Preview, which isn't one of the options that I see, even if I click "more options". Dragging the icon to the desktop (as suggested by another post) also opens the file, but at the same scale as the image in the email, not its true size.)
Is there some obvious fix that I just can't intuit? (I'm fairly new to Mac.) Why is ColorSync Utility the default application for opening such files (at least with Yahoo)?
Thanks.

i'm having the exact same problem downloading jpeg images from yahoo mail. the file name is changed to "securedownload-1,2,3 etc.", with the '.jpg' extension removed, and i get the same error message that "Colorsync Utility is unable to open files of this type". i've tried changing the "Open With" setting to Preview, and adding '.jpg' to the file name. they all seem to correct the problem, however, these all seem to be "band-aid" fixes and are not permanent. the common denominator here seems to be yahoo mail.
to test my theory, i created a gmail account, and forwarded myself one of the jpeg files i am having problems opening. the jpeg file opened flawlessly in the Preview application! another thing that dawned on me, was i had problems opening these files at work as well! on a Dell PC desktop! when i tried downloading these pictures at work (from my yahoo mail account), nothing downloaded, but i was booted off of yahoo mail completely.
if anyone know of a permanent solution to this problem, please let me know. but i hope this information is helpful!

  • Cant restore my macbook with Disk utility and my .dmg image

My macbook would not boot anymore. Stuck on gray screen with apple logo, spinning wheel and a loading bar for a while after shutting off.
I was able to get to Disk Utility in the recovery mode and, after a while, was able to make an image of my filesin an attempt to back them up.
The .dmg was put on an external and i checked it on my imac, i could open the .dmg file and browse all my files from my macbook, so those are safe!
After that i tried to wipe the SSD of my macbook and put the image back but that didn't work, also some resource is busy errors.
After trying this a few times without succes i figured i'd try to do a clean install. This worked.
My macbook air is working again but if Iuse Disk Utility in the recovery now and try and restore my image (.dmg file) it gives me Restore Failure; An error (-16) occured (resource busy) as well. I also tried to copy the dmg onto my macbook and run disc utility when booted into OSX. I open up the back up .dmg with Disk utility, then i go to my macbooks partition (Macontiosh HD) and use that as a destination and drag the mounted image as the source as shown on the image below. Am I doing something wrong here?
Doing this i get an error as well: (-119,930,878) Resource busy as you can see.
What can i do to get my image back on my macbook? Any 3rd party software?
I considered just transferring the files after opening the .dmg file but this works only for documents and not for programs and settings of the default apps.
I've looked all over the Internet and it seems more people have had this error but then with making the image, they also suggest unmounting the destination disk before trying to restore but my destination is Macintosh HD, i cant really unmount that can i?
    Thanks in advance!

To make a clone, in the future you need to use a program like superduper or carbon copy cloner.
Either program makes an identical clone while preserving certain system files and marking/indicating to OS X that the clone is bootable.
Using Disk Utility to make a DMG was a good idea, but this will not yield a bootable image.
If Disk Utility could do a 1:1 copy of everything, then people would be using it to rip/duplicate DVDs.
But Disk Utility does not (it leaves out certain invisible/system files), hence it cannot duplicate/clone a hard drive or DVD.

  • To Upload and Download an image

    Hi Experts.
I have a requirement wherein i have to uplaod an image ( for eg: a screenshot of an error ).
Afer uploading i want  to show the preview of that image and save the same in the database , so that later on  i want to also download that image and show it next to the Text Area.
    Any inputs would be helpful.
    Thank You ,
    Radhika.

    Hello Radhika,
You need to create transparent table following fields e.g.
    Field Name                Data Type
    DATA          RAWSTRING
    NAME          STRING
    TYPE          STRING
Create the context for above mentioned fields and bind the properties of data, filename & mimetype with File Upload & Download UI elements
In WDA use File Upload & File Download UI Elements & Save button for saving the data file.
On Save action update the data base table.
    Thanks

  • How to process and imbedded JPEG image data

I am using a flowable XFA form . and i would like to embed some JPEG images in a subform.
My form is working but I need this additional behavior/capability.
Can you direct me to where i would find a good example of how to do it or to good documentation on this can be done or any combination of these two things.
    thanks

    Hi,
I am trying to understand what you are trying to achieve. If you want to embed a static image, then drag an "image" from the object library. If you want the user to be able to select (or change) the image, then insert an "image field" into your subform.
For what it is worth, I have uploaded a basic PDF with a static image and a dynamic image field.
If you are dictating the images then select "image" objects. If the user has input, then select "image field" objects.
I cannot provide any direction to your second post. If you have the form working with "save as TIFF, I don't know how you would script additional parameters.
    Good luck,
    N.

  • Browser can resolve, access, and display JPEG image, but ImageIcon can't.

I've got this weird problem that only happens with images accessed through a customer's VPN:
Microsloth Internet Imploder can resolve, access, and display a JPG image from a VPN URL, in the general form:
http://intranet/part?FOOBAR.JPG which the browser apparently transmogrifies into
http://mogrify.foo.com/images/scripts/cgi/detail.cgi?FOOBAR.JPG(as Jack Webb often said, the names have been changed to protect the innocent)
Firefox can also resove, access, and display the image.
But an ImageIcon, when fed either URL, quietly fails to get anything, No errors, no exceptions, but no image, either.
The application, if it detects the failure of ImageIcon to come up with the image, somehow (not my code) defers to "Windoze Image and Fax Viewer," which locks up trying to resolve, access, and display the image.
What could possibly be going on here?

I'd love to have the luxury of saying, "You lost me at Windoze." Then again, to paraphrase a running gag from Airplane!, it looks like I picked the wrong week to quit hemlock.
As my final message on my other thread on this topic indicates, the problem is that even though the URL ends in JPG, the server isn't really serving up a JPEG, but rather, an HTML page containing the JPEG.
Knowing this, a solution (of sorts) presented itself: if the URL doesn't produce a displayable ImageIcon, try constructing a JEditorPane on the URL. The results aren't exactly pretty, and you do have to try the ImageIcon first, but it does work.

  • Create and send jpeg images

My applet create a jpeg file:

    Graphics2D g2 = image.createGraphics();
    g2.dispose();
    ImageIO.write(image, "jpeg", new File( "./example.jpeg"));
    } catch (IOException evt) {
    System.err.println(evt);
but this dont work on the server on Internet.
    Work only in local
the error is Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-2" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission .\example.jpeg write)
I cannot change the settings on the server.
There is another method to create a jpg or send a jpg to a client ?

  • How to store and retrieve .jpeg images from oracle database.

I am using JSP. Can anybody tell me the process of doing it.

I believe Oracle reccommends to use BLOBs for storing large binary data.
Check on DBMS_LOB package on Oracle documentation: it has all the API's you

  • I need to select to import only low-res jpeg images from my Canon 5D Mk11 camera to an iPad 2 and not RAW images

I need to select somehow to import only jpeg images from my Canon 5D Mk11 camera to an iPad 2
I take photographs in both RAW (high quality up to 30Mb file size) and JPEG low quality for use on iPad and Internet. The Raw files I save to a 1Tb Multimedia Storage Viewer and later down load-them to my computer where I process them for high quality prints.
Using the Camera Kit I can’t find an option to only download jpeg images, and fill the iPad memory with unwanted RAW images. Can you please tell me how to get over this problem?

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.

  • Opening pdf files in preview, mine will only open in colorsync utility. help

My macbook operating on Mac os 10.5.6 when opening pdf files it will only open them with colorsync utility and I can't alter the files (rotate/zoom etc) like I can when I can open it with Preview on my iMac desktop... I don't seem to have preview on my macbook. Is there anywhere I can download it from or somehow transfer it from my iMac to my macbook?? Maybe I just can't find it properly?? Help!

do a spotlight search for Preview. can you find it? it should be in the main Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive. if you can't find it you can reinstall it from the leopard install DVD using Pacifist

  • RAW and Exported Jpegs in same catalog

I use lightroom to import raw files from my Nikon. Then i edit them and export the good ones to jpeg on my network share for viewing. When i import jpegs from my compact camera i import them directly to my network share. Before i always had the jpegs in to the same catalog just under the other path. But now with face recognitioning i get the face from both places with the exported ones. Is there a way to stack the jpeg with the raw file so that they only show once?

Raw and Jpeg next to each other can be treated as the same file, but only if they are in the same physical folder and have the same name.
Are your exported Jpeg files then re-imported into LR in a different folder? That's a problem for what you want to do (and in general I don't recommend reimporting duplicate images).
LR could do a great job of managing your network share using a published folder, if you included the Jpegs from your compact camera on the loca folder along with the raw images. With publish services and a published folder, LR will create (and remove) Jpeg images in a managed location you choose, and you don't need to worry about reimporting duplicates.

  • Tag 'dmnd': Tag size is not correct msg in Colorsync Utility

When I press the verify button in the Colorsync Utility, I get the path to my ICC Profile
    /Library/Printers/Epson/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles/Pro38.profiles/Contents/Resour ces/Pro3800 3800C 3850 standard.icc
and then Tag 'dmnd':Tag size is not correct on the next line.
After that, Verify done - found 1 bad profile.
The printer works ok in Photoshop, though prints maybe come out a bit on the dark side as compared to my calibrated screen.
Is this something to be concerened about, and if so, what exactly is the course of action I should take?
    Thanks

Sorry, I thought you asked what course of action to take.
It means the data for that "tag" in the profile is not the size expected - I know, that's obvious too. The 'dmnd' tag contains the manufacturer's description.

You could try opening it in ColorSync Utility and editing the tag.

  • Can't import JPEG image Unrecognized format

Can't import black and white JPEG to iPhoto. Says unrecognized format. I've imported many black and white JPEG images.

You didn't ask a question.  You must made some statements.
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
    where are the photos from?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?

  • Colorsync Utility crashes on Intel Macs using ICC v4 profiles

There is an apparently known bug whereby opening ICC v4 profiles on an Intel Mac in Colorsync Utility, and picking on a device-to-lab tag (A2Bx), the application crashes. This did not happen on my Powerbook, so apparently it's only on Intel Macs. It also doesn't crash when doing this with ICC v2 profiles on my Intel. So, the combination of Intel and ICC v4 is the problem.
Has anyone encountered this? Any help would be appreciated, since this bug is also disabling a color management application that I need to use.

    Hi Jester,
    Two things,
The Quicktime setting is going to need to be 1.5Mb as iChat dislike LAN/Intranet
iGlasses is not going to work with iChat unless you ask iChat to run with Rosetta.
Go to the File Menu and use the Open With Rosetta option.
This is because you may not have the iGlasses as a Unviversal coded Add-on. See the third bullet point.
Update it if required. Delete it for Trouble shooting (Crashed Thread 11)
The paths are in this bit

I am trying to use photomerge compose.  I open one standard jpeg image and one image that is my business logo in a png format.  When I select the png image, to extract the logo from it, it appears as all white and will not allow me to select the logo from it.  It has worked in the past but I downloaded the update today and photomerge will not work correctly.  Any ideas?

    hedger,
How do you expect anyone to help when we don't know a darned thing about the file, abut your setup, exact version of Photoshop and your OS, machine specs, etc.?
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.
