Colorsync Utility crashes on Intel Macs using ICC v4 profiles

There is an apparently known bug whereby opening ICC v4 profiles on an Intel Mac in Colorsync Utility, and picking on a device-to-lab tag (A2Bx), the application crashes. This did not happen on my Powerbook, so apparently it's only on Intel Macs. It also doesn't crash when doing this with ICC v2 profiles on my Intel. So, the combination of Intel and ICC v4 is the problem.
Has anyone encountered this? Any help would be appreciated, since this bug is also disabling a color management application that I need to use.

Hi Jester,
Two things,
The Quicktime setting is going to need to be 1.5Mb as iChat dislike LAN/Intranet
iGlasses is not going to work with iChat unless you ask iChat to run with Rosetta.
Go to the File Menu and use the Open With Rosetta option.
This is because you may not have the iGlasses as a Unviversal coded Add-on. See the third bullet point.
Update it if required. Delete it for Trouble shooting (Crashed Thread 11)

  • Regular crashes on Intel Macs

I am seeing somewhat regular crashes on my Intel Mac, using
either Safari or Firefox, that seem to be due to
    Flash_EnforceLocalSecurity.
The tracebacks of the crash are always similar; anyone
    else?

Yes. Flash crashes frequently on my Intel Mac (Flash CS3, OS
10.5.2, all updates current). The crash is fatal. I get the
spinning beachball of death in Flash and _cannot_ force quit out of
the app. The only solution is to force my system to shut down.
I have seen no clear pattern to this problem -- except the
frequency (which is very high). Most recently it happened while
moving a text block on the stage.

  • PowerPC vs Intel Mac using iMovie

I own a Dual 2GHz PowerPC PowerMac and it recently took just over 600 minutes to render a 1hr 45min movie I made using iMovie '08 on my PowerMac.
Has anyone done a real world comparison between the Dual PowerPC PowerMac's and the Dual Intel iMac's at rendering with iMovie?
If I'm only going to save maybe a half hours time by going to Intel, then it isn't worth it, but if someone can show a significant delta in time to render between the two machines, I'd like to know.

I just received a brand new MacBook Pro with 2 gigs. I'm
    running CS3 Mac and
Win (with Parallels) I don't like the Mac UI and stuff, but I
    must say that
I'm very impressed with the performance. I've it hooked to a
    20" monitor and
now I barely use my Desktop PC which is a Core2
    Quad/2.4Gz/4Gigs/64 bits (to
tell you how good is the MacBook Pro).
I just can't stand the keyboard though...

  • Is anyone able to print from intel Mac using HP photosmart 7350?

I am trying to setup an intel 24" iMac, running OS 10.4.8 or 10.4.10, to print to an HP photosmart 7350. Printer works fine from an old PPC Mac, running 10.4.8, and other printers working fine from the iMac.
I'm moderately Mac-savvy, having had one or more on my desk for the last twenty years, and have exhausted my litany of workarounds, reinstalls, reboots etc etc etc.
Printer doesn't appear to be supported in intel OS install for 10.4.8+.
Has anyone actually got an HP photosmart 7350 printing from an intel Mac? If so i'd appreciate your advice on how you achieved this.
    Cheers
    Dougal

    Alas no joy.
I've installed and played-around-with the gutenprint drivers and I can 'see' and select them to drive the printer. I have not yet managed to get a half-decent print out of them. Either nothing happens, or the paper tractors right through the printer with no print added, or some of the image is printed compressed in on itself in the upper cm of the page.
At least they are communicating with the printer.
I think I'll plug the photosmart 7350 into the old PPC Mac and transport files over to that box for printing colour.
Thanks for the lead, an area I've not explored before.
    Cheers

  • Print Crash on Intel Macs but not on PPC Macs

I have two MacBooks exhibiting the same problem. When I try to print from nearly any application over the network, the application quits when I try to print. I restart the application and it usually prints. The printer I try to print to is an HP Deskjet 6540 that is shared from a G5. The G5 has no problems printing to the same printer; it never crashes. The log has been unhelpful -at least to me. I have already reset the printing system and manually installed the printers from scratch a couple of times to no avail. Any ideas would be apreciated!

    Hi there,
You may have a compatibility problem with PowerPC and Universal applications and drivers.
Your MacBooks are Intel-based. Most of the supplied applications are written in Universal Binary, meaning that they will work on Intel and PowerPC Mac's. But there are still a lot of applications and drivers that are written just for the PowerPC chip and to work on the Intel they have to use an emulator called Rosetta.
If the driver that is installed for the HP is PPC, then sometimes that can cause spooler errors, especially ones written in Universal. The workaround is to get a Universal version of the driver or to make the application run using Rosetta.
Now, given that the HP is shared by the G5, this may be causing the problem also. The HP driver on the G5 will be PPC and if you have added the printer on the MacBooks by just connecting to the share, then you may have PPC drivers installed instead of Universal but more of a problem is that you will have version differences. I have seen this cause the most amount of problems for shared printers.
Check HP's web site for the latest version of driver for the printer. If they have a Universal version, then download this and install it on all Mac's so that you are using the same version on all three. (You may find this driver is already installed on your MacBook's so if you can get the same version for your G5 that would help heaps).

    Paul

  • DW crashes on intel mac

I just installed Dreamweaver 6 and updataed it on my new
macbook. It installed fine and runs fine, However when I try to
connect to my hosting company it crashes. Very strange. I set it up
just like I did on my previous powerbook that I have been using for
several years. Any suggestions what I may have done wrong to make
it crash like this? I tested the connection when I defined the site
and DW said it connected successfully, but when I try to connect by
using the little connect icon it crashes..

Time to upgrade. Dreamweaver 6 isn't even officially
    supported by Adobe
anymore. Truthfully, the improvements of the latest version
    of Dreamweaver
over version 6 is mind boggling. The CSS enhancements alone
    will save you
countless hours. Well worth the upgrade.
I know a number of developers that are using Dreamweaver 8 on
    the new Macs
with no trouble, and even running in emulation the
    performance is good. So
an upgrade could be your solution.
Unfortunately, Dreamweaver 8 isn't available in "Universal"
    code for the new
Macs yet. Adobe has said that they will be releasing the new
    version "early
or Second Quarter" next year. We know it's coming but Adobe
    is pretty tight
lipped about the actual release date. The have already
    released a public
beta of Photoshop CS3 on www.labs.adobe.com so it can't be
    too far off. So
if nothing else, be sure to upgrade when Dreamweaver 9 or CS3
    - whatever
they call it - is released.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I add os x tiger to a partition on intel mac using os x lion?

I'm trying to add os x tiger to a partition so I can dual boot between tiger and lion.  However, I'm not able to boot the computer using the tiger dvd by holding the c  button during start up.  Anyone know how to do this?

The versions of OSX, in order of appearance:
    Tiger
    Leopard
    Snow Leopard (SL)
    Lion
My system came wth SL, so I can run both SL and Lion at the same time.  But I cannot run Leopard or Tiger.
My parents' macmini came with Leopard, so they could run Leopard, SL and Lion at the same time, but not Tiger.
My brother's in-laws have a Tiger system (2007/2008 vintage), so they could run all 4 at the same time, if they had enough disk space.

  • Logic Pro 8 On Intel Mac Used with PTHD 7.4   WORKS!!!!!!!!!

I have posted earlier that It did not work, But after Hours of trying, it finally Work.
I wanted to be able to use Logic Plugins PLUS all TDM plugins.
If you want to use the Logic Plugins, Create a DTDM track, Output it to ESB 1-8, Then to conect it to TDM you habe to create a DAE track With the input as ESB 1-8 and output to Output 1-2.
My Mackie and 2 Extenders works much better under LogicControl than HUI. A big plus
The Elastic Audio in PT 7.4 is amazing, I was just playing with it for an hour or so, I did not go deep but the sound quality is very convincing. An E stretch to a D sounds like an original D, not like it was rubber pulled.
    Eric D

I'll be trying this next week when I get some free time. Instead of running Logic on my second computer as I usually do I'll run Kontakt 3 and 2 both in standalone mode for many, many gigabytes of instruments.

  • Crashing on intel mac

When presenting, Connect intermittantly crashes on me and I
have to restart Connect to rejoin the meeting. I found this:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb400840
... but I wonder if anyone has a work-around or if anyone
from Adobe knows the status of that bug or whether it will be fixed
    soon.
Oddly, though a knowledge base article exists, this problem
is not listed on the "known issues" section of the Ver6-SP3 page:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/breeze/6/releasenotes.html
Hopefully that doesn't mean someone thinks it's
    fixed...

I agree this has been a horrible issue. I am currently
sitting on hold after receiving a call that a new build was
released today to address the Leopard incompatibility and
surprisingly no one can find this mysterious new build.

  • Using ICC Monitor Profiles

    Hello,
I produce ICC RGB monitor profiles for use with Photoshop using an Eye One Photo. Can FCP, or other software, translate those profiles so I know my LCD monitor is displaying color and contrast accurately for editing with FCP? If not, is there a better way to set up a LCD monitor than using Apple's standard calibration?
    Thanks,
    Drew Harty

It will never have the accuracy that an external video monitor will have. The gammas don't match those that a TV set produces... if you really want accuracy you need an external Video monitor that includes a blue only button on it. Colorists would insist on a CRT.

  • Ie4unit.exe "Per-User Initialization Utility" crashing on first login of a new profile

    Hello,
I am getting an error whenever I log onto my servers via RDP as per below:
Faulting application name: ie4uinit.exe, version: 11.0.9600.17207, time stamp: 0x53a22332
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.18409, time stamp: 0x5315a05a
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000000000001a93
    Faulting process id: 0x2120
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cfe289d12e2d0e
    Faulting application path: C:\Windows\System32\ie4uinit.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll
    Report Id: 0fb3b222-4e7d-11e4-b476-005056910008
My server is running Internet Explorer 11. This has only started happening in the past fortnight.
It only happens on the first login of a user where the profile is initalized. If I move on from the error and log out / back in the error does not re-occur.
If I remove the user profile from the server so it has to recreate it the error happens again.
    Screenshot below.
Any ideas or suggestions that might be causing this?
My first thoughts are perhaps something under my group policy settings for IE is not compatible with IE11 and causes this issue..?

    "C:\Windows\System32\ie4uinit.exe" -UserIconConfig
Any insight on what this switch actually does and why it would crash?
Just from the name.  Do you have any customization in that area?
An alternative/supplement to running ProcMon that you could use here is  DependencyWalker  for its Profiler feature.  That would give you a trace of calls up to the crash.
ProcMon is coarser and depends on how optimized a program is that is being traced.  Hopefully ie4uinit.exe  won't be too optimized and so then could give you some good clues about what was going on using Registry and File access events.  ProcMon
used to give us a simple way of getting a pseudo Stack Back Trace for the crashing thread but lately it seems the WER gets into the act in ways that I haven't figured out yet, so no longer as simple to analyze from there.  That's why a dump would probably
    be useful too.

  • Can both an intel and a PPC mac use time machine on the same TC?

I just got a TC and have successfully used time machine with a MBP. I was about to install Leopard on my PPC eMac in order to use time machine on the TC but I wondered if they could both use the TC hard drive as it is currently formatted.
As I recall, intel macs use journaled GUID and PPC machines use another format.
    Am I deluded?

I don't think there is a problem, and I believe others have reported in these forums that they're doing it.
There is a lot of confusion in this area compounded by a number of people who say that some of the Apple KB articles are wrong/misleading.
But in this case it's more a case of it doesn't matter - here is why.....
The Time Capsule disk comes formatted, you can erase the disk via the Airport Utility. That's the closest you can come to formatting and you don't have options - so it does whatever it needs to do to get it right.
The machines being backed up don't access the Time Capsule's disk(s) directly as they do on a locally attached disk. They do it via AFP network disk protocol and the Time Capsule disk is in effect insulated from the machine being backed up.
(As an aside, it's because of this - the differences in what can be done over AFP - that the Time Capsule stores the backups in a different file format)
If you add a USB attached drive to the Time Capsule you can also erase it with the Airport Utility as above. In my case, I've attached a USB drive to my Time Capsule. I never had the Time Capsule erase it, but before attaching it I attached it locally and formatted it GUID and HFSJ and it work just fine when attached to the Time Capsule. Does it have to be formatted that way - I don't know - all I know is in this one case what I did works which doesn't prove it has to be that way.
