Colorsync utility

I am having problems with color casts when printing from Aperture so I was going to try to use the colorsync utility to fix the problem. I have never used it before and I am suprised that multiple printers are being listed. When I uninstalled my epson 2200 one of them was removed but I still have 3 more epson 2200 ploy and epson 1280 listed. Presently there are no printers installed or connect to the computer. Is there a way to clean up the list.
Also where do you put the print/paper icc profiles. I am thinking that it just may be grabbing the wrong profile based on a path.
Thanks--Ed

Profiles live in Library>ColorSync>Profiles. You can remove the ones that you do not need. There may be aliases there, but they will lead to where the originals are.

  • How can I print with ColorSync Utility

When I receive an attachment via entourage,it automatically opens in ColorSync utility. I want to print so I go to the 'File' menu and I cannot print because the print option is "greyed out". Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this so that I can print e-mail attachments?

    1. Drag it to the Preview Icon
To make Preview the Default for jpegs:
Select a Jpeg in the Finder
    Go file -> Get Info
Look for the 'Open With' pane in the resultng Window. Select Preview from the DropDown and click the Change All button

  • How does one add a device to ColorSync Utility

I was wondering how one can add a "device" to ColorSync Utility? It seems all my "other" devices are showing up, such as my printer (which also has scanning capabilities).  However, I'm not seeing my i800 Microtek Scanner, "renamed" as ScanPotter anywhere, yet IS in my "Utilities" folder, and no doubt this could be the reason why everytime I scan a photo from a print, negative or slide I'm getting annoying "pop-ups" to install Xll Quartz, which IS already installed.  Also I plan to install the new PhotoElements 11...am I going to have a problem with that as well

Maybe it needs to be in Applications?

  • Colorsync Utility. Whenever I click on Devices or Filters, it hangs and I have to force quit. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

I'm having an issue with Colorsync Utility. When I open the utility I can access Profile First Aid, Profiles and the Calculator but whenever I click on Devices or Filters, it hangs and I have to force quit. I recently re-profiled my NEC monitor using xRite i1Profiler Pro and saved the ICC profile as "version 4". When I went to use the Nik's ColorEfex Pro 4 plug-in, in Adobe Photodhop CS5.1 (Creative Suite 5.5), I got a cyan cast across all my images. Nik said it had to do with a corrupt ICC profile but when I ran Profile First Aid, the only profile that came up as needing repair ( and couldn't) was EW-sRGB. I reprofiled the monitor only this time I saved it as "version 2", and the plug-in worked fine. What surprises me is that Colorsync Utilty always used to work without issue, and I never seemed to have a problem creatinga and saving ICC profiles using version 4. Any ideas as to what is causing this problem and  how to fix this?
    Thanks.

I updated my software, and deleted my history/cache.  Also, when I try to use Preview, it says that it was forced to quit while restoring windows, so when I click restore windows nothing happens.  I can't view anything either.  The only thing I can think that may have caused these problems is I tried to shut down and had to force it to by holding the power button.  I rarely shut it off.

Thanks for your response.  My profiles are located within color sync utility as you can see here:
These profiles do not respond to clicking and dragging.  Since they are all in one place, more or less, I'm reluctant to make further attempts to relocate them.  Accessing the CMYK profile is the first difficult experience I've encountered with this arrangement.  I have never needed the CMYK profile until recently, and that need has now past.  However, it remains a mystery to me as to why it does not appear with all the others on the menu of export choices in Aperture 2, or on the menu of profile assignment choices in the Preview application (where again all the other profiles are listed as choices).  I'm beginning to think my current set up will permit me to view an image that was created in CMYK space, but does not easily assign, or convert to that space.  I don't face these restrictions with all the others, so it remains a curious circumstance for me.  I anticipate upgrading my computer and software in the near future which might alleviate this issue altogether.  Again, many thanks for your attention to this matter.  The reach of this community is astounding.

  • Opening pdf files in preview, mine will only open in colorsync utility. help

My macbook operating on Mac os 10.5.6 when opening pdf files it will only open them with colorsync utility and I can't alter the files (rotate/zoom etc) like I can when I can open it with Preview on my iMac desktop... I don't seem to have preview on my macbook. Is there anywhere I can download it from or somehow transfer it from my iMac to my macbook?? Maybe I just can't find it properly?? Help!

do a spotlight search for Preview. can you find it? it should be in the main Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive. if you can't find it you can reinstall it from the leopard install DVD using Pacifist

  • Tag 'dmnd': Tag size is not correct msg in Colorsync Utility

When I press the verify button in the Colorsync Utility, I get the path to my ICC Profile
    /Library/Printers/Epson/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles/Pro38.profiles/Contents/Resour ces/Pro3800 3800C 3850 standard.icc
and then Tag 'dmnd':Tag size is not correct on the next line.
After that, Verify done - found 1 bad profile.
The printer works ok in Photoshop, though prints maybe come out a bit on the dark side as compared to my calibrated screen.
Is this something to be concerened about, and if so, what exactly is the course of action I should take?
    Thanks

Sorry, I thought you asked what course of action to take.
It means the data for that "tag" in the profile is not the size expected - I know, that's obvious too. The 'dmnd' tag contains the manufacturer's description.

You could try opening it in ColorSync Utility and editing the tag.

I tried to put the colorsync utility preference file into the trash but this was not successfull. Any idea how to delete the devices I no longer use?

I don't know for sure but I would think they would be located in the hard drive/library/colorsync/profiles folder.
I don't generally advocate moving things out of any of the system folders but I think that is where they are. If you want to move them out of there do so at your own risk

  • Quality degradation with the ColorSync Utility?

Is there any quality loss when one uses Apple's ColorSync Utility to match a new sRGB profile to an image previously colored with Adobe RGB? Since it's having to re-compress the image, is there a risk of significant quality degradation?
Here's why I'm asking: iPhoto is great with editing RAW photographs. But when it comes time for a JPEG export, I can only get it to export with Adobe RGB. So in order to get sRGB, I have to use the ColorSync Utility. Having to save a JPEG twice makes me slightly uncomfortable from a compression point of view.

    Got it!
I removed the following files from my /Applications/Utilities/ColorSync Utility.app/Contents/Resources folder:
    AnyTag.cstag
    ChadTag.cstag
    ColorSyncUtils.icns
    CurvTag.cstag
    DescTag.cstag
    DtimTag.cstag
    Header.cstag
    MbaTag.cstag
    MftTag.cstag
    MlucTag.cstag

    bmp.icns
    fpx.icns
    pntg.icns
    qtif.icns
    sgi.icns
    tga.icns
They all had last-modified dates sometime in 2004 and none of them were present in the ColorSync Utility.app package on the install CD, according to Pacifist (http://www.charlessoft.com/).

  • ColorSync Utility: Missing "Make Default" in Displays. Bug or feature?

    Hi there,
setting up my new MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard, I noticed that I can’t select my Default color management screen anymore in ColorSync Utility. There’s still the “Default” column in the Devices section, and the MBP’s display is marked as default, but for obvious reasons I’d like to have my better screen to be the default ColorSync screen.
But there’s no way to change this.
Hence the question – did the button go missing (i.e. a bug), or isn’t it necessary anymore as, perhaps, the new ColorSync CMM finally can fully manage multiple displays connected to one Mac?
Feedback much appreciated. I’m working on another article about color management with Macs, and this is sort of important information.

I have just tested this on a different webpage, and PHPSESSID shows up there. This seems to contradict my hypothesis of XSS prevention.

  • Colorsync Utility crashes on Intel Macs using ICC v4 profiles

There is an apparently known bug whereby opening ICC v4 profiles on an Intel Mac in Colorsync Utility, and picking on a device-to-lab tag (A2Bx), the application crashes. This did not happen on my Powerbook, so apparently it's only on Intel Macs. It also doesn't crash when doing this with ICC v2 profiles on my Intel. So, the combination of Intel and ICC v4 is the problem.
Has anyone encountered this? Any help would be appreciated, since this bug is also disabling a color management application that I need to use.

    Hi Jester,
    Two things,
The Quicktime setting is going to need to be 1.5Mb as iChat dislike LAN/Intranet
iGlasses is not going to work with iChat unless you ask iChat to run with Rosetta.
Go to the File Menu and use the Open With Rosetta option.
This is because you may not have the iGlasses as a Unviversal coded Add-on. See the third bullet point.
Update it if required. Delete it for Trouble shooting (Crashed Thread 11)

  • Can't print pdf attachment- ColorSync Utility

Recently something "new" has developed with my laptop. I don't know if it was part of an update, but now when i get an email with a pdf document attachment, I can open it and look at it, and I see now a "format" display that is ColorSync Utility, but there is no obvious way to print it out.
    What gives?

    I called Apple for help.
To make a long story short, it appears that a week or two ago, when I was sending a lot of old files I no longer needed to the trash, that somehow "preview" got sent there too.
Once the technician (she had to call in the tech manager who got on the phone) figured out things, I had to drag "preview" out of the trash and put it back into applications. ONce that happened, things worked normally.
What was happening is that normally the pdf would open in preview, but without preview there in applications, the computer selected ColorSync Utility to open it. CSU does not have a way to print, hence the problem.

  • Quartz filters in Colorsync Utility to improve print quality

I have trying to improve my printed output. I have set up my camera and iPhoto to get accurate, known colour into my system. I have also installed a custom profile for my printer which improved the colours considerably but the prints were still a little dark.
To fix this, I created a new Quartz filter in Colorsync Utility using the Brightness intermediate transform. My problem is that the Brightness transform has three unmarked, uncalibrated sliders. I think the middle one is brightness and the last one is contrast but I'm only guessing.
Anyone know what the sliders actually do?
This post is probably a bit cryptic in an attempt to keep it brief and cut to my problem but I've spent a lot of time getting to this point and I am happy to answer any questions on the other steps in the process for others who are further down the Colorsync learning curve.
    1.8 GHz MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello Bruce,
I ran this one by a couple of the 'colour specialists' in the office. One thought the sliders may be for R, G & B but they were guessing and we spent some time searching for an answer but found nothing. We even tried to look at some of the existing profiles, such as Sepia, but found them to be locked and not viewable. Anyway, you've got them intrigued so I think they'll work this one out for you soon, unless someone else knows the answer already.

  • ColorSync Utility won't open

Anyone else have this problem? I double click the icon, it appears in the dock, and the spinning beach ball simply keeps spinning, until I force quit. This behavior occurs on my iMac as well, which is also running 10.5.1. Both computers are G4s, vintage May, 2004. Both were upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.5 in December, 2007.
I can get ColorSync Utility to open by opening an image file with the shortcut menu command "Open With...." (ColorSync Utility, in this case). While the program is opened in that mode, the File command "New Utility Window" doesn't operate.

    Carolyn,
Thanks for your suggestion. For anyone who may be following along, I had to open a graphic with ColorSync Utility to get ColorSync Utility to launch. Then I clicked the Show Filter Inspector icon in the Toolbar of the ColorSync window that the graphic opened in. That brought up a window with six tabs, one of which is Profile First Aid. In Profile First Aid, I clicked Repair. Here's the result:
(Please let me know if you can't see the graphic. I had a case of difficulty with that yesterday.)
If you can see the graphic, you will be able to notice that five profiles have errors and none were repaired. The Epson Perfection 4180 is my flatbed scanner. I have no idea what the other devices are.
If the graphic is not accessible, here's the text from the repair attempt:

  • Found bad profiles in ColorSync Utility

I have been going through alot of ink and paper trying to get an image to print correctly out of Photoshop and have been searching for some answers online. One of the things I cam across was using the ColorSync Utility to verify and repair ICC profiles for my hardware. The utility found 4 problems, 2 of which are with the printer I am using (Epson Stylus Photo R320). When I try to do a repair it says it can't fix the problems.

I am wondering if this could be causing inaccurate color reproduction in my prints and if so how do I go about fixing them?
    Thanks,
    D.J.

    Hi,
I never even knew about this repair utility, so I tried it on my own system. Of 120 profiles, it found 9 with problems. I clicked "Repair", and it fixed 5 of the 9, leaving 4 that could not be repaired. I clicked "Repair" again, and it fixed 4 of the 5 that couldn't be fixed the first time, leaving only one that really couldn't be repaired. Have you tried running "Repair" more than once to see if any of your remaining problem profiles might be repairable?
